لَا Not lā will burn (in) it yaṣlāhā except illā the most wretched l-ashqā
None will [enter to] burn therein except the most wretched one
ٱلَّذِى The one who alladhī denied kadhaba and turned away watawallā
Who had denied and turned away.
وَسَيُجَنَّبُهَا But will be removed from it wasayujannabuhā the righteous l-atqā
But the righteous one will avoid it
ٱلَّذِى The one who alladhī gives yu'tī his wealth mālahu (to) purify himself yatazakkā
[He] who gives [from] his wealth to purify himself
وَمَا And not wamā for anyone li-aḥadin with him ʿindahu any min favor niʿ'matin to be recompensed tuj'zā
And not [giving] for anyone who has [done him] a favor to be rewarded1
إِلَّا Except illā seeking ib'tighāa (the) Countenance wajhi (of) his Lord rabbihi the Most High l-aʿlā
But only seeking the face [i.e., acceptance] of his Lord, Most High.
وَلَسَوْفَ And soon, surely walasawfa he will be pleased yarḍā
And he is going to be satisfied.
Ađ-Đuĥaá
The Morning Hours
﷽
الضحى
وَٱلَّيْلِ And the night wa-al-layli when idhā it covers with darkness sajā
And [by] the night when it covers with darkness,1
مَا Not mā has forsaken you waddaʿaka your Lord rabbuka and not wamā He is displeased qalā
Your Lord has not taken leave of you, [O Muḥammad], nor has He detested [you].
وَلَلْـَٔاخِرَةُ And surely the Hereafter walalākhiratu (is) better khayrun for you laka than mina the first l-ūlā
And the Hereafter is better for you than the first [life].
وَلَسَوْفَ And soon walasawfa will give you yuʿ'ṭīka your Lord rabbuka then you will be satisfied fatarḍā
And your Lord is going to give you, and you will be satisfied.
أَلَمْ Did not alam He find you yajid'ka an orphan yatīman and give shelter faāwā
Did He not find you an orphan and give [you] refuge?
وَوَجَدَكَ And He found you wawajadaka lost ḍāllan so He guided fahadā
And He found you lost and guided [you],
وَوَجَدَكَ And He found you wawajadaka in need ʿāilan so He made self-sufficient fa-aghnā
And He found you poor and made [you] self-sufficient.
فَأَمَّا So as for fa-ammā the orphan l-yatīma then (do) not falā oppress taqhar
So as for the orphan, do not oppress [him].
وَأَمَّا And as for wa-ammā one who asks l-sāila then (do) not falā repel tanhar
And as for the petitioner,1 do not repel [him].
وَأَمَّا But as for wa-ammā (the) Favor biniʿ'mati (of) your Lord rabbika narrate faḥaddith
But as for the favor of your Lord, report [it].
Ash-Sharĥ
The Relief

الشرح
أَلَمْ Have not alam We expanded nashraḥ for you laka your breast ṣadraka
Did We not expand for you, [O Muḥammad], your breast?1
وَوَضَعْنَا And We removed wawaḍaʿnā from you ʿanka your burden wiz'raka
And We removed from you your burden1
ٱلَّذِىٓ Which alladhī weighed upon anqaḍa your back ẓahraka
Which had weighed upon your back
وَرَفَعْنَا And We raised high warafaʿnā for you laka your reputation dhik'raka
And raised high for you your repute.
فَإِنَّ So indeed fa-inna with maʿa the hardship l-ʿus'ri (is) ease yus'ran
For indeed, with hardship [will be] ease [i.e., relief].
إِنَّ Indeed inna with maʿa the hardship l-ʿus'ri (is) ease yus'ran
Indeed, with hardship [will be] ease.
فَإِذَا So when fa-idhā you have finished faraghta then labor hard fa-inṣab
So when you have finished [your duties], then stand up [for worship].
وَإِلَىٰ And to wa-ilā your Lord rabbika turn your attention fa-ir'ghab
And to your Lord direct [your] longing.
