The Man
﷽
الانسان
هَلْ Has hal (there) come atā upon ʿalā man l-insāni a period ḥīnun of mina time l-dahri not lam he was yakun a thing shayan mentioned madhkūran
Has there [not] come upon man a period of time when he was not a thing [even] mentioned?
إِنَّا Indeed, We innā [We] created khalaqnā man l-insāna from min a semen-drop nuṭ'fatin a mixture amshājin (that) We test him nabtalīhi so We made (for) him fajaʿalnāhu hearing samīʿan and sight baṣīran
Indeed, We created man from a sperm-drop mixture1 that We may try him; and We made him hearing and seeing.
إِنَّا Indeed, We innā guided him hadaynāhu (to) the way l-sabīla whether immā (he) be grateful shākiran and whether wa-immā (he) be ungrateful kafūran
Indeed, We guided him to the way, be he grateful or be he ungrateful.
إِنَّآ Indeed, We innā [We] have prepared aʿtadnā for the disbelievers lil'kāfirīna chains salāsilā and shackles wa-aghlālan and a Blazing Fire wasaʿīran
Indeed, We have prepared for the disbelievers chains and shackles and a blaze.
إِنَّ Indeed inna the righteous l-abrāra will drink yashrabūna from min a cup kasin is kāna its mixture mizājuhā (of) Kafur kāfūran
Indeed, the righteous will drink from a cup [of wine] whose mixture is of Kāfūr,1
عَيْنًۭا A spring ʿaynan will drink yashrabu from it bihā (the) slaves ʿibādu (of) Allah l-lahi causing it to gush forth yufajjirūnahā abundantly tafjīran
A spring of which the [righteous] servants of Allāh will drink; they will make it gush forth in force [and abundance].
يُوفُونَ They fulfill yūfūna the vows bil-nadhri and fear wayakhāfūna a Day yawman (which) is kāna its evil sharruhu widespread mus'taṭīran
They [are those who] fulfill [their] vows and fear a Day whose evil will be widespread.
وَيُطْعِمُونَ And they feed wayuṭ'ʿimūna the food l-ṭaʿāma in spite of ʿalā love (for) it ḥubbihi (to the) needy mis'kīnan and (the) orphan wayatīman and (the) captive wa-asīran
And they give food in spite of love for it1 to the needy, the orphan, and the captive,
إِنَّمَا Only innamā we feed you nuṭ'ʿimukum for (the) Countenance liwajhi (of) Allah l-lahi Not lā we desire nurīdu from you minkum any reward jazāan and not walā thanks shukūran
[Saying], "We feed you only for the face [i.e., approval] of Allāh. We wish not from you reward or gratitude.
إِنَّا Indeed, we innā fear nakhāfu from min our Lord rabbinā a Day yawman harsh ʿabūsan and distressful qamṭarīran
Indeed, We fear from our Lord a Day austere and distressful."
فَوَقَىٰهُمُ But will protect them fawaqāhumu Allah l-lahu (from the) evil sharra (of) that dhālika Day l-yawmi and will cause them to meet walaqqāhum radiance naḍratan and happiness wasurūran
So Allāh will protect them from the evil of that Day and give them radiance and happiness
وَجَزَىٰهُم And will reward them wajazāhum because bimā they were patient ṣabarū (with) a Garden jannatan and silk waḥarīran
And will reward them for what they patiently endured [with] a garden [in Paradise] and silk [garments].
مُّتَّكِـِٔينَ Reclining muttakiīna therein fīhā on ʿalā couches l-arāiki Not lā they will see yarawna therein fīhā sun shamsan and not walā freezing cold zamharīran
[They will be] reclining therein on adorned couches. They will not see therein any [burning] sun or [freezing] cold.
وَدَانِيَةً And near wadāniyatan above them ʿalayhim (are) its shades ẓilāluhā and will hang low wadhullilat its cluster of fruits quṭūfuhā dangling low tadhlīlan
And near above them are its shades, and its [fruit] to be picked will be lowered in compliance.
وَيُطَافُ And will be circulated wayuṭāfu among them ʿalayhim vessels biāniyatin of min silver fiḍḍatin and cups wa-akwābin (that) are kānat (of) crystal qawārīrā
And there will be circulated among them vessels of silver and cups having been [created] clear [as glass],
قَوَارِيرَا۟ Crystal-clear qawārīrā of min silver fiḍḍatin They will determine its qaddarūhā measure taqdīran
Clear glasses [made] from silver of which they have determined the measure.
وَيُسْقَوْنَ And they will be given to drink wayus'qawna therein fīhā a cup kasan is kāna its mixture mizājuhā (of) Zanjabil zanjabīlan
And they will be given to drink a cup [of wine] whose mixture is of ginger
عَيْنًۭا A spring ʿaynan therein fīhā named tusammā Salsabil salsabīlan
[From] a fountain within it [i.e., Paradise] named Salsabeel.
۞ وَيَطُوفُ And will circulate wayaṭūfu among them ʿalayhim young boys wil'dānun made eternal mukhalladūna When idhā you see them ra-aytahum you would think them ḥasib'tahum (to be) pearls lu'lu-an scattered manthūran
There will circulate among them young boys made eternal. When you see them, you would think them [as beautiful as] scattered pearls.
وَإِذَا And when wa-idhā you look ra-ayta then thamma you will see ra-ayta blessings naʿīman and a kingdom wamul'kan great kabīran
And when you look there [in Paradise], you will see pleasure and great dominion.
عَـٰلِيَهُمْ Upon them ʿāliyahum (will be) garments thiyābu (of) fine silk sundusin green khuḍ'run and heavy brocade wa-is'tabraqun And they will be adorned waḥullū (with) bracelets asāwira of min silver fiḍḍatin and will give them to drink wasaqāhum their Lord rabbuhum a drink sharāban pure ṭahūran
Upon them [i.e., the inhabitants] will be green garments of fine silk and brocade. And they will be adorned with bracelets of silver, and their Lord will give them a purifying drink.
إِنَّ Indeed inna this hādhā is kāna for you lakum a reward jazāan and has been wakāna your effort saʿyukum appreciated mashkūran
[And it will be said], "Indeed, this is for you a reward, and your effort has been appreciated."
إِنَّا Indeed, We innā [We] naḥnu [We] revealed nazzalnā to you ʿalayka the Quran l-qur'āna progressively tanzīlan
Indeed, it is We who have sent down to you, [O Muḥammad], the Qur’ān progressively.
فَٱصْبِرْ So be patient fa-iṣ'bir for (the) Command liḥuk'mi (of) your Lord rabbika and (do) not walā obey tuṭiʿ from them min'hum any sinner āthiman or aw disbeliever kafūran
So be patient for the decision of your Lord and do not obey from among them a sinner or ungrateful [disbeliever].
وَٱذْكُرِ And remember wa-udh'kuri (the) name is'ma (of) your Lord rabbika morning buk'ratan and evening wa-aṣīlan
And mention the name of your Lord [in prayer] morning and evening
وَمِنَ And of wamina the night al-layli prostrate fa-us'jud to Him lahu and glorify Him wasabbiḥ'hu a night laylan long ṭawīlan
And during the night prostrate to Him and exalt [i.e., praise] Him a long [part of the] night.
إِنَّ Indeed inna these hāulāi love yuḥibbūna the immediate l-ʿājilata and leave wayadharūna behind them warāahum a Day yawman grave thaqīlan
Indeed, these [disbelievers] love the immediate and leave behind them1 a grave Day.
نَّحْنُ We naḥnu created them khalaqnāhum and We strengthened washadadnā their forms asrahum and when wa-idhā We will shi'nā We can change baddalnā their likeness[es] amthālahum (with) a change tabdīlan
We have created them and strengthened their forms, and when We will, We can change their likenesses with [complete] alteration.
إِنَّ Indeed inna this hādhihi (is) a reminder tadhkiratun so whoever faman wills shāa let him take ittakhadha to ilā his Lord rabbihi a way sabīlan
Indeed, this is a reminder, so he who wills may take to his Lord a way.
وَمَا And not wamā you will tashāūna except illā that an wills yashāa Allah l-lahu Indeed inna Allah l-laha is kāna All-Knower ʿalīman All-Wise ḥakīman
And you do not will except that Allāh wills. Indeed, Allāh is ever Knowing and Wise.
يُدْخِلُ He admits yud'khilu whom man He wills yashāu into fī His mercy raḥmatihi but (for) the wrongdoers wal-ẓālimīna He has prepared aʿadda for them lahum a punishment ʿadhāban painful alīman
He admits whom He wills into His mercy; but the wrongdoers - He has prepared for them a painful punishment.
