The Cattle

الأنعام

ٱلْحَمْدُ

(All) the praises and thanks

al-ḥamdu

لِلَّهِ

(be) to Allah

lillahi

ٱلَّذِى

the One Who

alladhī

خَلَقَ

created

khalaqa

ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ

the heavens

l-samāwāti

وَٱلْأَرْضَ

and the earth

wal-arḍa

وَجَعَلَ

and made

wajaʿala

ٱلظُّلُمَـٰتِ

the darkness[es]

l-ẓulumāti

وَٱلنُّورَ ۖ

and the light

wal-nūra

ثُمَّ

Then

thumma

ٱلَّذِينَ

those who

alladhīna

كَفَرُوا۟

disbelieved

kafarū

بِرَبِّهِمْ

in their Lord

birabbihim

يَعْدِلُونَ

equate others with Him

yaʿdilūna

١

[All] praise is [due] to Allāh, who created the heavens and the earth and made the darkness and the light. Then those who disbelieve equate [others] with their Lord.

— Saheeh International

هُوَ

He

huwa

ٱلَّذِى

(is) the One Who

alladhī

خَلَقَكُم

created you

khalaqakum

مِّن

from

min

طِينٍۢ

clay

ṭīnin

ثُمَّ

then

thumma

قَضَىٰٓ

He decreed

qaḍā

أَجَلًۭا ۖ

a term

ajalan

وَأَجَلٌۭ

and a term

wa-ajalun

مُّسَمًّى

specified

musamman

عِندَهُۥ ۖ

with Him

ʿindahu

ثُمَّ

yet

thumma

أَنتُمْ

you

antum

تَمْتَرُونَ

doubt

tamtarūna

٢

It is He who created you from clay and then decreed a term1 and a specified time [known] to Him;2 then [still] you are in dispute.

— Saheeh International

وَهُوَ

And He

wahuwa

ٱللَّهُ

(is) Allah

l-lahu

فِى

in

ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ

the heavens

l-samāwāti

وَفِى

and in

wafī

ٱلْأَرْضِ ۖ

the earth

l-arḍi

يَعْلَمُ

He knows

yaʿlamu

سِرَّكُمْ

your secret

sirrakum

وَجَهْرَكُمْ

and what you make public

wajahrakum

وَيَعْلَمُ

and He knows

wayaʿlamu

مَا

what

تَكْسِبُونَ

you earn

taksibūna

٣

And He is Allāh, [the only deity] in the heavens and the earth. He knows your secret and what you make public, and He knows that which you earn.

— Saheeh International

وَمَا

And not

wamā

تَأْتِيهِم

comes to them

tatīhim

مِّنْ

[of]

min

ءَايَةٍۢ

any sign

āyatin

مِّنْ

from

min

ءَايَـٰتِ

(the) Signs

āyāti

رَبِّهِمْ

(of) their Lord

rabbihim

إِلَّا

but

illā

كَانُوا۟

they are

kānū

عَنْهَا

from it

ʿanhā

مُعْرِضِينَ

turning away

muʿ'riḍīna

٤

And no sign comes to them from the signs of their Lord except that they turn away therefrom.

— Saheeh International

فَقَدْ

Then indeed

faqad

كَذَّبُوا۟

they denied

kadhabū

بِٱلْحَقِّ

the truth

bil-ḥaqi

لَمَّا

when

lammā

جَآءَهُمْ ۖ

it came to them

jāahum

فَسَوْفَ

but soon

fasawfa

يَأْتِيهِمْ

will come to them

yatīhim

أَنۢبَـٰٓؤُا۟

news

anbāu

مَا

(of) what

كَانُوا۟

they used to

kānū

بِهِۦ

[at it]

bihi

يَسْتَهْزِءُونَ

mock

yastahziūna

٥

For they had denied the truth when it came to them, but there is going to reach them the news of what they used to ridicule.1

— Saheeh International

أَلَمْ

Did not

alam

يَرَوْا۟

they see

yaraw

كَمْ

how many

kam

أَهْلَكْنَا

We destroyed

ahlaknā

مِن

from

min

قَبْلِهِم

before them

qablihim

مِّن

of

min

قَرْنٍۢ

generations

qarnin

مَّكَّنَّـٰهُمْ

We had established them

makkannāhum

فِى

in

ٱلْأَرْضِ

the earth

l-arḍi

مَا

what

لَمْ

not

lam

نُمَكِّن

We (have) established

numakkin

لَّكُمْ

for you

lakum

وَأَرْسَلْنَا

And We sent

wa-arsalnā

ٱلسَّمَآءَ

(rain from) the sky

l-samāa

عَلَيْهِم

upon them

ʿalayhim

مِّدْرَارًۭا

showering abundantly

mid'rāran

وَجَعَلْنَا

and We made

wajaʿalnā

ٱلْأَنْهَـٰرَ

the rivers

l-anhāra

تَجْرِى

flow

tajrī

مِن

from

min

تَحْتِهِمْ

underneath them

taḥtihim

فَأَهْلَكْنَـٰهُم

Then We destroyed them

fa-ahlaknāhum

بِذُنُوبِهِمْ

for their sins

bidhunūbihim

وَأَنشَأْنَا

and We raised

wa-anshanā

مِنۢ

from

min

بَعْدِهِمْ

after them

baʿdihim

قَرْنًا

generations

qarnan

ءَاخَرِينَ

other

ākharīna

٦

Have they not seen how many generations We destroyed before them which We had established upon the earth as We have not established you? And We sent [rain from] the sky upon them in showers and made rivers flow beneath them; then We destroyed them for their sins and brought forth after them a generation of others.

— Saheeh International

وَلَوْ

And (even) if

walaw

نَزَّلْنَا

We (had) sent down

nazzalnā

عَلَيْكَ

to you

ʿalayka

كِتَـٰبًۭا

a written Scripture

kitāban

فِى

in

قِرْطَاسٍۢ

a parchment

qir'ṭāsin

فَلَمَسُوهُ

and they touched it

falamasūhu

بِأَيْدِيهِمْ

with their hands

bi-aydīhim

لَقَالَ

surely (would) have said

laqāla

ٱلَّذِينَ

those who

alladhīna

كَفَرُوٓا۟

disbelieved

kafarū

إِنْ

Not

in

هَـٰذَآ

(is) this

hādhā

إِلَّا

but

illā

سِحْرٌۭ

magic

siḥ'run

مُّبِينٌۭ

clear

mubīnun

٧

And even if We had sent down to you, [O Muḥammad], a written scripture on a page and they touched it with their hands, the disbelievers would say, "This is not but obvious magic."

— Saheeh International

وَقَالُوا۟

And they said

waqālū

لَوْلَآ

Why has not been

lawlā

أُنزِلَ

sent down

unzila

عَلَيْهِ

to him

ʿalayhi

مَلَكٌۭ ۖ

an Angel

malakun

وَلَوْ

And if

walaw

أَنزَلْنَا

We (had) sent down

anzalnā

مَلَكًۭا

an Angel

malakan

لَّقُضِىَ

surely (would) have been decided

laquḍiya

ٱلْأَمْرُ

the matter

l-amru

ثُمَّ

then

thumma

لَا

no

يُنظَرُونَ

respite would have been granted to them

yunẓarūna

٨

And they say, "Why was there not sent down to him an angel?"1 But if We had sent down an angel, the matter would have been decided;2 then they would not be reprieved.

— Saheeh International

وَلَوْ

And if

walaw

جَعَلْنَـٰهُ

We had made him

jaʿalnāhu

مَلَكًۭا

an Angel

malakan

لَّجَعَلْنَـٰهُ

certainly We (would) have made him

lajaʿalnāhu

رَجُلًۭا

a man

rajulan

وَلَلَبَسْنَا

and certainly We (would) have obscured

walalabasnā

عَلَيْهِم

to them

ʿalayhim

مَّا

what

يَلْبِسُونَ

they are obscuring

yalbisūna

٩

And if We had made him [i.e., the messenger] an angel, We would have made him [appear as] a man, and We would have covered them with that in which they cover themselves [i.e., confusion and doubt].

— Saheeh International

وَلَقَدِ

And indeed

walaqadi

ٱسْتُهْزِئَ

were mocked

us'tuh'zi-a

بِرُسُلٍۢ

Messengers

birusulin

مِّن

from

min

قَبْلِكَ

before you

qablika

فَحَاقَ

but surrounded

faḥāqa

بِٱلَّذِينَ

those who

bi-alladhīna

سَخِرُوا۟

scoffed

sakhirū

مِنْهُم

of them

min'hum

مَّا

what

كَانُوا۟

they used to

kānū

بِهِۦ

[at it]

bihi

يَسْتَهْزِءُونَ

mock

yastahziūna

١٠

And already were messengers ridiculed before you, but those who mocked them were enveloped by that which they used to ridicule.

— Saheeh International

قُلْ

Say

qul

سِيرُوا۟

Travel

sīrū

فِى

in

ٱلْأَرْضِ

the earth

l-arḍi

ثُمَّ

and

thumma

ٱنظُرُوا۟

see

unẓurū

كَيْفَ

how

kayfa

كَانَ

was

kāna

عَـٰقِبَةُ

(the) end

ʿāqibatu

ٱلْمُكَذِّبِينَ

(of) the rejecters

l-mukadhibīna

١١

Say, "Travel through the land; then observe how was the end of the deniers."

— Saheeh International

قُل

Say

qul

لِّمَن

To whom (belongs)

liman

مَّا

what

فِى

(is) in

ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ

the heavens

l-samāwāti

وَٱلْأَرْضِ ۖ

and the earth

wal-arḍi

قُل

Say

qul

لِّلَّهِ ۚ

To Allah

lillahi

كَتَبَ

He has decreed

kataba

عَلَىٰ

upon

ʿalā

نَفْسِهِ

Himself

nafsihi

ٱلرَّحْمَةَ ۚ

the Mercy

l-raḥmata

لَيَجْمَعَنَّكُمْ

Surely He will assemble you

layajmaʿannakum

إِلَىٰ

on

ilā

يَوْمِ

(the) Day

yawmi

ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ

(of) the Resurrection

l-qiyāmati

لَا

(there is) no

رَيْبَ

doubt

rayba

فِيهِ ۚ

about it

fīhi

ٱلَّذِينَ

Those who

alladhīna

خَسِرُوٓا۟

have lost

khasirū

أَنفُسَهُمْ

themselves

anfusahum

فَهُمْ

then they

fahum

لَا

(do) not

يُؤْمِنُونَ

believe

yu'minūna

١٢

Say, "To whom belongs whatever is in the heavens and earth?" Say, "To Allāh." He has decreed upon Himself mercy. He will surely assemble you for the Day of Resurrection, about which there is no doubt. Those who will lose themselves [that Day] do not believe.

— Saheeh International

۞ وَلَهُۥ

And for Him

walahu

مَا

(is) whatever

سَكَنَ

dwells

sakana

فِى

in

ٱلَّيْلِ

the night

al-layli

وَٱلنَّهَارِ ۚ

and the day

wal-nahāri

وَهُوَ

and He

wahuwa

ٱلسَّمِيعُ

(is) All-Hearing

l-samīʿu

ٱلْعَلِيمُ

All-Knowing

l-ʿalīmu

١٣

And to Him belongs that which reposes by night and by day, and He is the Hearing, the Knowing.

— Saheeh International

قُلْ

Say

qul

أَغَيْرَ

Is it other than

aghayra

ٱللَّهِ

Allah

l-lahi

أَتَّخِذُ

I (should) take

attakhidhu

وَلِيًّۭا

(as) a protector

waliyyan

فَاطِرِ

Creator

fāṭiri

ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ

(of) the heavens

l-samāwāti

وَٱلْأَرْضِ

and the earth

wal-arḍi

وَهُوَ

while (it is) He

wahuwa

يُطْعِمُ

Who feeds

yuṭ'ʿimu

وَلَا

and not

walā

يُطْعَمُ ۗ

He is fed

yuṭ'ʿamu

قُلْ

Say

qul

إِنِّىٓ

Indeed I

innī

أُمِرْتُ

[I] am commanded

umir'tu

أَنْ

that

an

أَكُونَ

I be

akūna

أَوَّلَ

(the) first

awwala

مَنْ

who

man

أَسْلَمَ ۖ

submits (to Allah)

aslama

وَلَا

and not

walā

تَكُونَنَّ

be

takūnanna

مِنَ

of

mina

ٱلْمُشْرِكِينَ

the polytheists

l-mush'rikīna

١٤

Say, "Is it other than Allāh I should take as a protector, Creator of the heavens and earth, while it is He who feeds and is not fed?" Say, [O Muḥammad], "Indeed, I have been commanded to be the first [among you] who submit [to Allāh] and [was commanded], 'Do not ever be of the polytheists."

— Saheeh International

قُلْ

Say

qul

إِنِّىٓ

Indeed, I

innī

أَخَافُ

[I] fear

akhāfu

إِنْ

if

in

عَصَيْتُ

I disobeyed

ʿaṣaytu

رَبِّى

my Lord

rabbī

عَذَابَ

punishment

ʿadhāba

يَوْمٍ

(of) a Day

yawmin

عَظِيمٍۢ

Mighty

ʿaẓīmin

١٥

Say, "Indeed I fear, if I should disobey my Lord, the punishment of a tremendous Day."

— Saheeh International

مَّن

Whoever

man

يُصْرَفْ

is averted

yuṣ'raf

عَنْهُ

from it

ʿanhu

يَوْمَئِذٍۢ

that Day

yawma-idhin

فَقَدْ

then surely

faqad

رَحِمَهُۥ ۚ

He had Mercy on him

raḥimahu

وَذَٰلِكَ

And that

wadhālika

ٱلْفَوْزُ

(is) the success

l-fawzu

ٱلْمُبِينُ

(the) clear

l-mubīnu

١٦

He from whom it is averted that Day - [Allāh] has granted him mercy. And that is the clear attainment.

— Saheeh International

وَإِن

And if

wa-in

يَمْسَسْكَ

touches you

yamsaska

ٱللَّهُ

Allah

l-lahu

بِضُرٍّۢ

with affliction

biḍurrin

فَلَا

then no

falā

كَاشِفَ

remover

kāshifa

لَهُۥٓ

of it

lahu

إِلَّا

except

illā

هُوَ ۖ

Him

huwa

وَإِن

And if

wa-in

يَمْسَسْكَ

He touches you

yamsaska

بِخَيْرٍۢ

with good

bikhayrin

فَهُوَ

then He

fahuwa

عَلَىٰ

(is) on

ʿalā

كُلِّ

every

kulli

شَىْءٍۢ

thing

shayin

قَدِيرٌۭ

All-Powerful

qadīrun

١٧

And if Allāh should touch you with adversity, there is no remover of it except Him. And if He touches you with good - then He is over all things competent.

— Saheeh International

وَهُوَ

And He

wahuwa

ٱلْقَاهِرُ

(is) the Subjugator

l-qāhiru

فَوْقَ

over

fawqa

عِبَادِهِۦ ۚ

His slaves

ʿibādihi

وَهُوَ

And He

wahuwa

ٱلْحَكِيمُ

(is) the All-Wise

l-ḥakīmu

ٱلْخَبِيرُ

the All-Aware

l-khabīru

١٨

And He is the subjugator over His servants. And He is the Wise,1 the Aware.2

— Saheeh International

قُلْ

Say

qul

أَىُّ

What

ayyu

شَىْءٍ

thing

shayin

أَكْبَرُ

(is) greatest

akbaru

شَهَـٰدَةًۭ ۖ

(as) a testimony

shahādatan

قُلِ

Say

quli

ٱللَّهُ ۖ

Allah

l-lahu

شَهِيدٌۢ

(is) Witness

shahīdun

بَيْنِى

between me

baynī

وَبَيْنَكُمْ ۚ

and between you

wabaynakum

وَأُوحِىَ

and has been revealed

waūḥiya

إِلَىَّ

to me

ilayya

هَـٰذَا

this

hādhā

ٱلْقُرْءَانُ

[the] Quran

l-qur'ānu

لِأُنذِرَكُم

that I may warn you

li-undhirakum

بِهِۦ

with it

bihi

وَمَنۢ

and whoever

waman

بَلَغَ ۚ

it reaches

balagha

أَئِنَّكُمْ

Do you truly

a-innakum

لَتَشْهَدُونَ

testify

latashhadūna

أَنَّ

that

anna

مَعَ

with

maʿa

ٱللَّهِ

Allah

l-lahi

ءَالِهَةً

(there are) gods

ālihatan

أُخْرَىٰ ۚ

other

ukh'rā

قُل

Say

qul

لَّآ

Not

أَشْهَدُ ۚ

(do) I testify

ashhadu

قُلْ

Say

qul

إِنَّمَا

Only

innamā

هُوَ

He

huwa

إِلَـٰهٌۭ

(is) God

ilāhun

وَٰحِدٌۭ

One

wāḥidun

وَإِنَّنِى

and indeed, I am

wa-innanī

بَرِىٓءٌۭ

free

barīon

مِّمَّا

of what

mimmā

تُشْرِكُونَ

you associate (with Him)

tush'rikūna

١٩

Say, "What thing is greatest in testimony?" Say, "Allāh is witness between me and you. And this Qur’ān was revealed to me that I may warn you thereby and whomever it reaches.1 Do you [truly] testify that with Allāh there are other deities?" Say, "I will not testify [with you]." Say, "Indeed, He is but one God, and indeed, I am free of what you associate [with Him]."

— Saheeh International

ٱلَّذِينَ

Those (to) whom

alladhīna

ءَاتَيْنَـٰهُمُ

We have given them

ātaynāhumu

ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ

the Book

l-kitāba

يَعْرِفُونَهُۥ

they recognize him

yaʿrifūnahu

كَمَا

as

kamā

يَعْرِفُونَ

they recognize

yaʿrifūna

أَبْنَآءَهُمُ ۘ

their sons

abnāahumu

ٱلَّذِينَ

Those who

alladhīna

خَسِرُوٓا۟

lost

khasirū

أَنفُسَهُمْ

themselves

anfusahum

فَهُمْ

then they

fahum

لَا

(do) not

يُؤْمِنُونَ

believe

yu'minūna

٢٠

Those to whom We have given the Scripture recognize it1 as they recognize their [own] sons. Those who will lose themselves [in the Hereafter] do not believe.

— Saheeh International

وَمَنْ

And who

waman

أَظْلَمُ

(is) more unjust

aẓlamu

مِمَّنِ

than (he) who

mimmani

ٱفْتَرَىٰ

invents

if'tarā

عَلَى

against

ʿalā

ٱللَّهِ

Allah

l-lahi

كَذِبًا

a lie

kadhiban

أَوْ

or

aw

كَذَّبَ

rejects

kadhaba

بِـَٔايَـٰتِهِۦٓ ۗ

His Signs

biāyātihi

إِنَّهُۥ

Indeed

innahu

لَا

not

يُفْلِحُ

will be successful

yuf'liḥu

ٱلظَّـٰلِمُونَ

the wrongdoers

l-ẓālimūna

٢١

And who is more unjust than one who invents about Allāh a lie or denies His verses? Indeed, the wrongdoers will not succeed.

— Saheeh International

وَيَوْمَ

And (the) Day

wayawma

نَحْشُرُهُمْ

We will gather them

naḥshuruhum

جَمِيعًۭا

all

jamīʿan

ثُمَّ

then

thumma

نَقُولُ

We will say

naqūlu

لِلَّذِينَ

to those who

lilladhīna

أَشْرَكُوٓا۟

associated others with Allah

ashrakū

أَيْنَ

Where (are)

ayna

شُرَكَآؤُكُمُ

your partners

shurakāukumu

ٱلَّذِينَ

those whom

alladhīna

كُنتُمْ

you used to

kuntum

تَزْعُمُونَ

claim

tazʿumūna

٢٢

And [mention, O Muḥammad], the Day We will gather them all together; then We will say to those who associated others with Allāh, "Where are your 'partners' that you used to claim [with Him]?"

— Saheeh International

ثُمَّ

Then

thumma

لَمْ

not

lam

تَكُن

will be

takun

فِتْنَتُهُمْ

(for) them a plea

fit'natuhum

إِلَّآ

except

illā

أَن

that

an

قَالُوا۟

they say

qālū

وَٱللَّهِ

By Allah

wal-lahi

رَبِّنَا

our Lord

rabbinā

مَا

not

كُنَّا

we were

kunnā

مُشْرِكِينَ

those who associated others (with Allah)

mush'rikīna

٢٣

Then there will be no [excuse upon] examination except they will say, "By Allāh, our Lord, we were not those who associated."

— Saheeh International

ٱنظُرْ

Look

unẓur

كَيْفَ

how

kayfa

كَذَبُوا۟

they lied

kadhabū

عَلَىٰٓ

against

ʿalā

أَنفُسِهِمْ ۚ

themselves

anfusihim

وَضَلَّ

And lost

waḍalla

عَنْهُم

from them

ʿanhum

مَّا

what

كَانُوا۟

they used to

kānū

يَفْتَرُونَ

invent

yaftarūna

٢٤

See how they will lie about themselves. And lost from them will be what they used to invent.

— Saheeh International

وَمِنْهُم

And among them

wamin'hum

مَّن

(are those) who

man

يَسْتَمِعُ

listen

yastamiʿu

إِلَيْكَ ۖ

to you

ilayka

وَجَعَلْنَا

but We have placed

wajaʿalnā

عَلَىٰ

over

ʿalā

قُلُوبِهِمْ

their hearts

qulūbihim

أَكِنَّةً

coverings

akinnatan

أَن

lest

an

يَفْقَهُوهُ

they understand it

yafqahūhu

وَفِىٓ

and in

wafī

ءَاذَانِهِمْ

their ears

ādhānihim

وَقْرًۭا ۚ

deafness

waqran

وَإِن

And if

wa-in

يَرَوْا۟

they see

yaraw

كُلَّ

every

kulla

ءَايَةٍۢ

sign

āyatin

لَّا

not

يُؤْمِنُوا۟

will they believe

yu'minū

بِهَا ۚ

in it

bihā

حَتَّىٰٓ

Until

ḥattā

إِذَا

when

idhā

جَآءُوكَ

they come to you

jāūka

يُجَـٰدِلُونَكَ

and argue with you

yujādilūnaka

يَقُولُ

say

yaqūlu

ٱلَّذِينَ

those who

alladhīna

كَفَرُوٓا۟

disbelieved

kafarū

إِنْ

Not

in

هَـٰذَآ

(is) this

hādhā

إِلَّآ

but

illā

أَسَـٰطِيرُ

(the) tales

asāṭīru

ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ

(of) the former (people)

l-awalīna

٢٥

And among them are those who listen to you,1 but We have placed over their hearts coverings, lest they understand it, and in their ears deafness. And if they should see every sign, they will not believe in it. Even when they come to you arguing with you, those who disbelieve say, "This is not but legends of the former peoples."

— Saheeh International

وَهُمْ

And they

wahum

يَنْهَوْنَ

forbid (others)

yanhawna

عَنْهُ

from it

ʿanhu

وَيَنْـَٔوْنَ

and they keep away

wayanawna

عَنْهُ ۖ

from it

ʿanhu

وَإِن

And not

wa-in

يُهْلِكُونَ

they destroy

yuh'likūna

إِلَّآ

except

illā

أَنفُسَهُمْ

themselves

anfusahum

وَمَا

and not

wamā

يَشْعُرُونَ

they perceive

yashʿurūna

٢٦

And they prevent [others] from him and are [themselves] remote from him. And they do not destroy except themselves, but they perceive [it] not.

— Saheeh International

وَلَوْ

And if

walaw

تَرَىٰٓ

you (could) see

tarā

إِذْ

when

idh

وُقِفُوا۟

they are made to stand

wuqifū

عَلَى

by

ʿalā

ٱلنَّارِ

the Fire

l-nāri

فَقَالُوا۟

then they (will) say

faqālū

يَـٰلَيْتَنَا

Oh! Would that we

yālaytanā

نُرَدُّ

were sent back

nuraddu

وَلَا

and not

walā

نُكَذِّبَ

we would deny

nukadhiba

بِـَٔايَـٰتِ

(the) Signs

biāyāti

رَبِّنَا

(of) our Lord

rabbinā

وَنَكُونَ

and we would be

wanakūna

مِنَ

among

mina

ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ

the believers

l-mu'minīna

٢٧

If you could but see when they are made to stand before the Fire and will say, "Oh, would that we could be returned [to life on earth] and not deny the signs of our Lord and be among the believers."

— Saheeh International

بَلْ

Nay

bal

بَدَا

became manifest

badā

لَهُم

for them

lahum

مَّا

what

كَانُوا۟

they used to

kānū

يُخْفُونَ

conceal

yukh'fūna

مِن

from

min

قَبْلُ ۖ

before

qablu

وَلَوْ

And if

walaw

رُدُّوا۟

they were sent back

ruddū

لَعَادُوا۟

certainly they (would) return

laʿādū

لِمَا

to what

limā

نُهُوا۟

they were forbidden

nuhū

عَنْهُ

from it

ʿanhu

وَإِنَّهُمْ

and indeed they

wa-innahum

لَكَـٰذِبُونَ

certainly are liars

lakādhibūna

٢٨

But what they concealed before has [now] appeared to them. And even if they were returned, they would return to that which they were forbidden; and indeed, they are liars.

— Saheeh International

وَقَالُوٓا۟

And they said

waqālū

إِنْ

Not

in

هِىَ

it (is)

hiya

إِلَّا

except

illā

حَيَاتُنَا

our life

ḥayātunā

ٱلدُّنْيَا

(of) the world

l-dun'yā

وَمَا

and not

wamā

نَحْنُ

we

naḥnu

بِمَبْعُوثِينَ

(will be) resurrected

bimabʿūthīna

٢٩

And they say, "There is none but our worldly life, and we will not be resurrected."

— Saheeh International

وَلَوْ

And if

walaw

تَرَىٰٓ

you (could) see

tarā

إِذْ

when

idh

وُقِفُوا۟

they will be made to stand

wuqifū

عَلَىٰ

before

ʿalā

رَبِّهِمْ ۚ

their Lord

rabbihim

قَالَ

He (will) say

qāla

أَلَيْسَ

Is not

alaysa

هَـٰذَا

this

hādhā

بِٱلْحَقِّ ۚ

the truth

bil-ḥaqi

قَالُوا۟

They will say

qālū

بَلَىٰ

Yes

balā

وَرَبِّنَا ۚ

by our Lord

warabbinā

قَالَ

He (will) say

qāla

فَذُوقُوا۟

So taste

fadhūqū

ٱلْعَذَابَ

the punishment

l-ʿadhāba

بِمَا

because

bimā

كُنتُمْ

you used to

kuntum

تَكْفُرُونَ

disbelieve

takfurūna

٣٠

If you could but see when they will be made to stand before their Lord. He will say, "Is this not the truth?" They will say, "Yes, by our Lord." He will [then] say, "So taste the punishment for what you used to deny."

— Saheeh International

قَدْ

Indeed

qad

خَسِرَ

incurred loss

khasira

ٱلَّذِينَ

those who

alladhīna

كَذَّبُوا۟

denied

kadhabū

بِلِقَآءِ

in (the) meeting

biliqāi

ٱللَّهِ ۖ

(with) Allah

l-lahi

حَتَّىٰٓ

until

ḥattā

إِذَا

when

idhā

جَآءَتْهُمُ

came to them

jāathumu

ٱلسَّاعَةُ

the Hour

l-sāʿatu

بَغْتَةًۭ

suddenly

baghtatan

قَالُوا۟

they said

qālū

يَـٰحَسْرَتَنَا

Oh! Our regret

yāḥasratanā

عَلَىٰ

over

ʿalā

مَا

what

فَرَّطْنَا

we neglected

farraṭnā

فِيهَا

concerning it

fīhā

وَهُمْ

while they

wahum

يَحْمِلُونَ

will bear

yaḥmilūna

أَوْزَارَهُمْ

their burdens

awzārahum

عَلَىٰ

on

ʿalā

ظُهُورِهِمْ ۚ

their backs

ẓuhūrihim

أَلَا

Unquestionably

alā

سَآءَ

Evil

sāa

مَا

(is) what

يَزِرُونَ

they bear

yazirūna

٣١

Those will have lost who deny the meeting with Allāh, until when the Hour [of resurrection] comes upon them unexpectedly, they will say, "Oh, [how great is] our regret over what we neglected concerning it [i.e., the Hour]," while they bear their burdens [i.e., sins] on their backs. Unquestionably, evil is that which they bear.

— Saheeh International

وَمَا

And not

wamā

ٱلْحَيَوٰةُ

(is) the life

l-ḥayatu

ٱلدُّنْيَآ

(of) the world

l-dun'yā

إِلَّا

except

illā

لَعِبٌۭ

a play

laʿibun

وَلَهْوٌۭ ۖ

and amusement

walahwun

وَلَلدَّارُ

but the home

walalddāru

ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةُ

(of) the Hereafter

l-ākhiratu

خَيْرٌۭ

(is) best

khayrun

لِّلَّذِينَ

for those who

lilladhīna

يَتَّقُونَ ۗ

(are) God conscious

yattaqūna

أَفَلَا

Then not

afalā

تَعْقِلُونَ

(will) you reason

taʿqilūna

٣٢

And the worldly life is not but amusement and diversion; but the home of the Hereafter is best for those who fear Allāh, so will you not reason?

— Saheeh International

قَدْ

Indeed

qad

نَعْلَمُ

We know

naʿlamu

إِنَّهُۥ

that it

innahu

لَيَحْزُنُكَ

grieves you

layaḥzunuka

ٱلَّذِى

what

alladhī

يَقُولُونَ ۖ

they say

yaqūlūna

فَإِنَّهُمْ

And indeed, they

fa-innahum

لَا

(do) not

يُكَذِّبُونَكَ

deny you

yukadhibūnaka

وَلَـٰكِنَّ

but

walākinna

ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ

the wrongdoers

l-ẓālimīna

بِـَٔايَـٰتِ

the Verses

biāyāti

ٱللَّهِ

(of) Allah

l-lahi

يَجْحَدُونَ

they reject

yajḥadūna

٣٣

We know that you, [O Muḥammad], are saddened by what they say. And indeed, they do not call you untruthful, but it is the verses of Allāh that the wrongdoers reject.

— Saheeh International

وَلَقَدْ

And surely

walaqad

كُذِّبَتْ

were rejected

kudhibat

رُسُلٌۭ

Messengers

rusulun

مِّن

from

min

قَبْلِكَ

before you

qablika

فَصَبَرُوا۟

but they were patient

faṣabarū

عَلَىٰ

over

ʿalā

مَا

what

كُذِّبُوا۟

they were rejected

kudhibū

وَأُوذُوا۟

and they were harmed

waūdhū

حَتَّىٰٓ

until

ḥattā

أَتَىٰهُمْ

came to them

atāhum

نَصْرُنَا ۚ

Our help

naṣrunā

وَلَا

And no

walā

مُبَدِّلَ

one (can) alter

mubaddila

لِكَلِمَـٰتِ

(the) words

likalimāti

ٱللَّهِ ۚ

(of) Allah

l-lahi

وَلَقَدْ

and surely

walaqad

جَآءَكَ

has come to you

jāaka

مِن

of

min

نَّبَإِى۟

(the) news

naba-i

ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَ

(of) the Messengers

l-mur'salīna

٣٤

And certainly were messengers denied before you, but they were patient over the denial, and they were harmed until Our victory came to them. And none can alter the words [i.e., decrees] of Allāh. And there has certainly come to you some information about the [previous] messengers.

— Saheeh International

وَإِن

And if

wa-in

كَانَ

is

kāna

كَبُرَ

difficult

kabura

عَلَيْكَ

for you

ʿalayka

إِعْرَاضُهُمْ

their aversion

iʿ'rāḍuhum

فَإِنِ

then if

fa-ini

ٱسْتَطَعْتَ

you are able

is'taṭaʿta

أَن

to

an

تَبْتَغِىَ

seek

tabtaghiya

نَفَقًۭا

a tunnel

nafaqan

فِى

in

ٱلْأَرْضِ

the earth

l-arḍi

أَوْ

or

aw

سُلَّمًۭا

a ladder

sullaman

فِى

into

ٱلسَّمَآءِ

the sky

l-samāi

فَتَأْتِيَهُم

so that you bring to them

fatatiyahum

بِـَٔايَةٍۢ ۚ

a Sign

biāyatin

وَلَوْ

But if

walaw

شَآءَ

(had) willed

shāa

ٱللَّهُ

Allah

l-lahu

لَجَمَعَهُمْ

surely He (would) have gathered them

lajamaʿahum

عَلَى

on

ʿalā

ٱلْهُدَىٰ ۚ

the guidance

l-hudā

فَلَا

So (do) not

falā

تَكُونَنَّ

be

takūnanna

مِنَ

of

mina

ٱلْجَـٰهِلِينَ

the ignorant

l-jāhilīna

٣٥

And if their evasion is difficult for you, then if you are able to seek a tunnel into the earth or a stairway into the sky to bring them a sign, [then do so]. But if Allāh had willed, He would have united them upon guidance. So never be of the ignorant.

— Saheeh International

۞ إِنَّمَا

Only

innamā

يَسْتَجِيبُ

respond

yastajību

ٱلَّذِينَ

those who

alladhīna

يَسْمَعُونَ ۘ

listen

yasmaʿūna

وَٱلْمَوْتَىٰ

But the dead

wal-mawtā

يَبْعَثُهُمُ

will resurrect them

yabʿathuhumu

ٱللَّهُ

Allah

l-lahu

ثُمَّ

then

thumma

إِلَيْهِ

to Him

ilayhi

يُرْجَعُونَ

they will be returned

yur'jaʿūna

٣٦

Only those who hear will respond. But the dead1 - Allāh will resurrect them; then to Him they will be returned.

— Saheeh International

وَقَالُوا۟

And they said

waqālū

لَوْلَا

Why (is) not

lawlā

نُزِّلَ

sent down

nuzzila

عَلَيْهِ

to him

ʿalayhi

ءَايَةٌۭ

a Sign

āyatun

مِّن

from

min

رَّبِّهِۦ ۚ

his Lord

rabbihi

قُلْ

Say

qul

إِنَّ

Indeed

inna

ٱللَّهَ

Allah

l-laha

قَادِرٌ

(is) Able

qādirun

عَلَىٰٓ

[on]

ʿalā

أَن

to

an

يُنَزِّلَ

send down

yunazzila

ءَايَةًۭ

a Sign

āyatan

وَلَـٰكِنَّ

but

walākinna

أَكْثَرَهُمْ

most of them

aktharahum

لَا

(do) not

يَعْلَمُونَ

know

yaʿlamūna

٣٧

And they say, "Why has a sign not been sent down to him from his Lord?" Say, "Indeed, Allāh is Able to send down a sign, but most of them do not know."

— Saheeh International

وَمَا

And not

wamā

مِن

[of]

min

دَآبَّةٍۢ

any animal

dābbatin

فِى

in

ٱلْأَرْضِ

the earth

l-arḍi

وَلَا

and not

walā

طَـٰٓئِرٍۢ

a bird

ṭāirin

يَطِيرُ

(that) flies

yaṭīru

بِجَنَاحَيْهِ

with its wings

bijanāḥayhi

إِلَّآ

but

illā

أُمَمٌ

(are) communities

umamun

أَمْثَالُكُم ۚ

like you

amthālukum

مَّا

Not

فَرَّطْنَا

We have neglected

farraṭnā

فِى

in

ٱلْكِتَـٰبِ

the Book

l-kitābi

مِن

[of]

min

شَىْءٍۢ ۚ

anything

shayin

ثُمَّ

then

thumma

إِلَىٰ

to

ilā

رَبِّهِمْ

their Lord

rabbihim

يُحْشَرُونَ

they will be gathered

yuḥ'sharūna

٣٨

And there is no creature on [or within] the earth or bird that flies with its wings except [that they are] communities like you. We have not neglected in the Register1 a thing. Then unto their Lord they will be gathered.

— Saheeh International

وَٱلَّذِينَ

And those who

wa-alladhīna

كَذَّبُوا۟

rejected

kadhabū

بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَا

Our Verses

biāyātinā

صُمٌّۭ

(are) deaf

ṣummun

وَبُكْمٌۭ

and dumb

wabuk'mun

فِى

in

ٱلظُّلُمَـٰتِ ۗ

the darkness[es]

l-ẓulumāti

مَن

Whoever

man

يَشَإِ

wills

yasha-i

ٱللَّهُ

Allah

l-lahu

يُضْلِلْهُ

He lets him go astray

yuḍ'lil'hu

وَمَن

and whoever

waman

يَشَأْ

He wills

yasha

يَجْعَلْهُ

He places him

yajʿalhu

عَلَىٰ

on

ʿalā

صِرَٰطٍۢ

(the) way

ṣirāṭin

مُّسْتَقِيمٍۢ

(the) straight

mus'taqīmin

٣٩

But those who deny Our verses are deaf and dumb within darknesses. Whomever Allāh wills - He sends astray; and whomever He wills - He puts him on a straight path.

— Saheeh International

قُلْ

Say

qul

أَرَءَيْتَكُمْ

Have you seen

ara-aytakum

إِنْ

if

in

أَتَىٰكُمْ

(there) came to you

atākum

عَذَابُ

punishment

ʿadhābu

ٱللَّهِ

(of) Allah

l-lahi

أَوْ

or

aw

أَتَتْكُمُ

(there) came to you

atatkumu

ٱلسَّاعَةُ

the Hour

l-sāʿatu

أَغَيْرَ

is it other

aghayra

ٱللَّهِ

(than) Allah

l-lahi

تَدْعُونَ

you call

tadʿūna

إِن

if

in

كُنتُمْ

you are

kuntum

صَـٰدِقِينَ

truthful

ṣādiqīna

٤٠

Say, "Have you considered:1 if there came to you the punishment of Allāh or there came to you the Hour - is it other than Allāh you would invoke, if you should be truthful?"

— Saheeh International

بَلْ

Nay

bal

إِيَّاهُ

Him Alone

iyyāhu

تَدْعُونَ

you call

tadʿūna

فَيَكْشِفُ

and He would remove

fayakshifu

مَا

what

تَدْعُونَ

you call

tadʿūna

إِلَيْهِ

upon Him

ilayhi

إِن

if

in

شَآءَ

He wills

shāa

وَتَنسَوْنَ

and you will forget

watansawna

مَا

what

تُشْرِكُونَ

you associate (with Him)

tush'rikūna

٤١

No, it is Him [alone] you would invoke, and He would remove that for which you invoked Him if He willed, and you would forget what you associate [with Him].

— Saheeh International

وَلَقَدْ

And certainly

walaqad

أَرْسَلْنَآ

We sent (Messengers)

arsalnā

إِلَىٰٓ

to

ilā

أُمَمٍۢ

nations

umamin

مِّن

from

min

قَبْلِكَ

before you

qablika

فَأَخَذْنَـٰهُم

then We seized them

fa-akhadhnāhum

بِٱلْبَأْسَآءِ

with adversity

bil-basāi

وَٱلضَّرَّآءِ

and hardship

wal-ḍarāi

لَعَلَّهُمْ

so that they may

laʿallahum

يَتَضَرَّعُونَ

humble themselves

yataḍarraʿūna

٤٢

And We have already sent [messengers] to nations before you, [O Muḥammad]; then We seized them with poverty and hardship that perhaps they might humble themselves [to Us].

— Saheeh International

فَلَوْلَآ

Then why not

falawlā

إِذْ

when

idh

جَآءَهُم

came to them

jāahum

بَأْسُنَا

Our punishment

basunā

تَضَرَّعُوا۟

they humbled themselves

taḍarraʿū

وَلَـٰكِن

But

walākin

قَسَتْ

became hardened

qasat

قُلُوبُهُمْ

their hearts

qulūbuhum

وَزَيَّنَ

and made fair-seeming

wazayyana

لَهُمُ

to them

lahumu

ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنُ

the Shaitaan

l-shayṭānu

مَا

what

كَانُوا۟

they used to

kānū

يَعْمَلُونَ

do

yaʿmalūna

٤٣

Then why, when Our punishment came to them, did they not humble themselves? But their hearts became hardened, and Satan made attractive to them that which they were doing.

— Saheeh International

فَلَمَّا

So when

falammā

نَسُوا۟

they forgot

nasū

مَا

what

ذُكِّرُوا۟

they were reminded

dhukkirū

بِهِۦ

of [it]

bihi

فَتَحْنَا

We opened

fataḥnā

عَلَيْهِمْ

on them

ʿalayhim

أَبْوَٰبَ

gates

abwāba

كُلِّ

(of) every

kulli

شَىْءٍ

thing

shayin

حَتَّىٰٓ

until

ḥattā

إِذَا

when

idhā

فَرِحُوا۟

they rejoiced

fariḥū

بِمَآ

in what

bimā

أُوتُوٓا۟

they were given

ūtū

أَخَذْنَـٰهُم

We seized them

akhadhnāhum

بَغْتَةًۭ

suddenly

baghtatan

فَإِذَا

and then

fa-idhā

هُم

they

hum

مُّبْلِسُونَ

(were) dumbfounded

mub'lisūna

٤٤

So when they forgot that by which they had been reminded,1 We opened to them the doors of every [good] thing until, when they rejoiced in that which they were given, We seized them suddenly, and they were [then] in despair.

— Saheeh International

فَقُطِعَ

So was cut off

faquṭiʿa

دَابِرُ

(the) remnant

dābiru

ٱلْقَوْمِ

(of) the people

l-qawmi

ٱلَّذِينَ

[those] who

alladhīna

ظَلَمُوا۟ ۚ

did wrong

ẓalamū

وَٱلْحَمْدُ

And all praises and thanks

wal-ḥamdu

لِلَّهِ

(be) to Allah

lillahi

رَبِّ

Lord

rabbi

ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ

(of) the worlds

l-ʿālamīna

٤٥

So the people that committed wrong were eliminated. And praise to Allāh, Lord of the worlds.

— Saheeh International

قُلْ

Say

qul

أَرَءَيْتُمْ

Have you seen

ara-aytum

إِنْ

if

in

أَخَذَ

took away

akhadha

ٱللَّهُ

Allah

l-lahu

سَمْعَكُمْ

your hearing

samʿakum

وَأَبْصَـٰرَكُمْ

and your sight

wa-abṣārakum

وَخَتَمَ

and sealed

wakhatama

عَلَىٰ

[on]

ʿalā

قُلُوبِكُم

your hearts

qulūbikum

مَّنْ

who

man

إِلَـٰهٌ

(is the) god

ilāhun

غَيْرُ

other than

ghayru

ٱللَّهِ

Allah

l-lahi

يَأْتِيكُم

to bring [back] to you

yatīkum

بِهِ ۗ

with it

bihi

ٱنظُرْ

See

unẓur

كَيْفَ

how

kayfa

نُصَرِّفُ

We explain

nuṣarrifu

ٱلْـَٔايَـٰتِ

the Signs

l-āyāti

ثُمَّ

yet

thumma

هُمْ

they

hum

يَصْدِفُونَ

turn away

yaṣdifūna

٤٦

Say, "Have you considered:1 if Allāh should take away your hearing and your sight and set a seal upon your hearts, which deity other than Allāh could bring them [back] to you?" Look how We diversify2 the verses; then they [still] turn away.

— Saheeh International

قُلْ

Say

qul

أَرَءَيْتَكُمْ

Have you seen

ara-aytakum

إِنْ

if

in

أَتَىٰكُمْ

comes to you

atākum

عَذَابُ

punishment

ʿadhābu

ٱللَّهِ

(of) Allah

l-lahi

بَغْتَةً

suddenly

baghtatan

أَوْ

or

aw

جَهْرَةً

openly

jahratan

هَلْ

will

hal

يُهْلَكُ

(any) be destroyed

yuh'laku

إِلَّا

except

illā

ٱلْقَوْمُ

the people

l-qawmu

ٱلظَّـٰلِمُونَ

the wrongdoers

l-ẓālimūna

٤٧

Say, "Have you considered: if the punishment of Allāh should come to you unexpectedly or manifestly,1 will any be destroyed but the wrongdoing people?"

— Saheeh International

وَمَا

And not

wamā

نُرْسِلُ

We send

nur'silu

ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَ

the Messengers

l-mur'salīna

إِلَّا

except

illā

مُبَشِّرِينَ

(as) bearer of glad tidings

mubashirīna

وَمُنذِرِينَ ۖ

and (as) warners

wamundhirīna

فَمَنْ

So whoever

faman

ءَامَنَ

believed

āmana

وَأَصْلَحَ

and reformed

wa-aṣlaḥa

فَلَا

then no

falā

خَوْفٌ

fear

khawfun

عَلَيْهِمْ

upon them

ʿalayhim

وَلَا

and not

walā

هُمْ

they

hum

يَحْزَنُونَ

will grieve

yaḥzanūna

٤٨

And We send not the messengers except as bringers of good tidings and warners. So whoever believes and reforms - there will be no fear concerning them, nor will they grieve.

— Saheeh International

وَٱلَّذِينَ

And those who

wa-alladhīna

كَذَّبُوا۟

denied

kadhabū

بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَا

[in] Our Verses

biāyātinā

يَمَسُّهُمُ

will touch them

yamassuhumu

ٱلْعَذَابُ

the punishment

l-ʿadhābu

بِمَا

for what

bimā

كَانُوا۟

they used to

kānū

يَفْسُقُونَ

defiantly disobey

yafsuqūna

٤٩

But those who deny Our verses - the punishment will touch1 them for their defiant disobedience.

— Saheeh International

قُل

Say

qul

لَّآ

Not

أَقُولُ

(do) I say

aqūlu

لَكُمْ

to you

lakum

عِندِى

(that) with me

ʿindī

خَزَآئِنُ

(are the) treasures

khazāinu

ٱللَّهِ

(of) Allah

l-lahi

وَلَآ

and not

walā

أَعْلَمُ

(that) I know

aʿlamu

ٱلْغَيْبَ

the unseen

l-ghayba

وَلَآ

and not

walā

أَقُولُ

I say

aqūlu

لَكُمْ

to you

lakum

إِنِّى

that I (am)

innī

مَلَكٌ ۖ

an Angel

malakun

إِنْ

Not

in

أَتَّبِعُ

(do) I follow

attabiʿu

إِلَّا

except

illā

مَا

what

يُوحَىٰٓ

is revealed

yūḥā

إِلَىَّ ۚ

to me

ilayya

قُلْ

Say

qul

هَلْ

Can

hal

يَسْتَوِى

be equal

yastawī

ٱلْأَعْمَىٰ

the blind

l-aʿmā

وَٱلْبَصِيرُ ۚ

and the seeing one

wal-baṣīru

أَفَلَا

Then will not

afalā

تَتَفَكَّرُونَ

you give thought

tatafakkarūna

٥٠

Say, [O Muḥammad], "I do not tell you that I have the depositories [containing the provision] of Allāh or that I know the unseen, nor do I tell you that I am an angel. I only follow what is revealed to me." Say, "Is the blind equivalent to the seeing? Then will you not give thought?"

— Saheeh International

وَأَنذِرْ

And warn

wa-andhir

بِهِ

with it

bihi

ٱلَّذِينَ

those who

alladhīna

يَخَافُونَ

fear

yakhāfūna

أَن

that

an

يُحْشَرُوٓا۟

they will be gathered

yuḥ'sharū

إِلَىٰ

to

ilā

رَبِّهِمْ ۙ

their Lord

rabbihim

لَيْسَ

not

laysa

لَهُم

for them

lahum

مِّن

of

min

دُونِهِۦ

other than Him

dūnihi

وَلِىٌّۭ

any protector

waliyyun

وَلَا

and not

walā

شَفِيعٌۭ

any intercessor

shafīʿun

لَّعَلَّهُمْ

so that they may

laʿallahum

يَتَّقُونَ

(become) righteous

yattaqūna

٥١

And warn by it [i.e., the Qur’ān] those who fear that they will be gathered before their Lord - for them besides Him will be no protector and no intercessor - that they might become righteous.

— Saheeh International

وَلَا

And (do) not

walā

تَطْرُدِ

send away

taṭrudi

ٱلَّذِينَ

those who

alladhīna

يَدْعُونَ

call

yadʿūna

رَبَّهُم

their Lord

rabbahum

بِٱلْغَدَوٰةِ

in the morning

bil-ghadati

وَٱلْعَشِىِّ

and the evening

wal-ʿashiyi

يُرِيدُونَ

desiring

yurīdūna

وَجْهَهُۥ ۖ

His Countenance

wajhahu

مَا

Not

عَلَيْكَ

(is) on you

ʿalayka

مِنْ

of

min

حِسَابِهِم

their account

ḥisābihim

مِّن

[of]

min

شَىْءٍۢ

anything

shayin

وَمَا

and not

wamā

مِنْ

from

min

حِسَابِكَ

your account

ḥisābika

عَلَيْهِم

on them

ʿalayhim

مِّن

[of]

min

شَىْءٍۢ

anything

shayin

فَتَطْرُدَهُمْ

So were you to send them away

fataṭrudahum

فَتَكُونَ

then you would be

fatakūna

مِنَ

of

mina

ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ

the wrongdoers

l-ẓālimīna

٥٢

And do not send away those who call upon their Lord morning and afternoon, seeking His face [i.e., favor]. Not upon you is anything of their account and not upon them is anything of your account.1 So were you to send them away, you would [then] be of the wrongdoers.

— Saheeh International

وَكَذَٰلِكَ

And thus

wakadhālika

فَتَنَّا

We try

fatannā

بَعْضَهُم

some of them

baʿḍahum

بِبَعْضٍۢ

with others

bibaʿḍin

لِّيَقُولُوٓا۟

that they say

liyaqūlū

أَهَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ

Are these

ahāulāi

مَنَّ

(whom has been) favored

manna

ٱللَّهُ

(by) Allah

l-lahu

عَلَيْهِم

[upon them]

ʿalayhim

مِّنۢ

from

min

بَيْنِنَآ ۗ

among us

bayninā

أَلَيْسَ

is not

alaysa

ٱللَّهُ

Allah

l-lahu

بِأَعْلَمَ

most knowing

bi-aʿlama

بِٱلشَّـٰكِرِينَ

of those who are grateful

bil-shākirīna

٥٣

And thus We have tried some of them through others that they [i.e., the disbelievers] might say, "Is it these whom Allāh has favored among us?" Is not Allāh most knowing of those who are grateful?1

— Saheeh International

وَإِذَا

And when

wa-idhā

جَآءَكَ

come to you

jāaka

ٱلَّذِينَ

those who

alladhīna

يُؤْمِنُونَ

believe

yu'minūna

بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَا

in Our Verses

biāyātinā

فَقُلْ

then say

faqul

سَلَـٰمٌ

Peace

salāmun

عَلَيْكُمْ ۖ

(be) upon you

ʿalaykum

كَتَبَ

(Has) Prescribed

kataba

رَبُّكُمْ

your Lord

rabbukum

عَلَىٰ

upon

ʿalā

نَفْسِهِ

Himself

nafsihi

ٱلرَّحْمَةَ ۖ

the Mercy

l-raḥmata

أَنَّهُۥ

that he

annahu

مَنْ

who

man

عَمِلَ

does

ʿamila

مِنكُمْ

among you

minkum

سُوٓءًۢا

evil

sūan

بِجَهَـٰلَةٍۢ

in ignorance

bijahālatin

ثُمَّ

then

thumma

تَابَ

repents

tāba

مِنۢ

from

min

بَعْدِهِۦ

after it

baʿdihi

وَأَصْلَحَ

and reforms

wa-aṣlaḥa

فَأَنَّهُۥ

then, indeed He

fa-annahu

غَفُورٌۭ

(is) Oft-Forgiving

ghafūrun

رَّحِيمٌۭ

Most Merciful

raḥīmun

٥٤

And when those come to you who believe in Our verses, say, "Peace be upon you. Your Lord has decreed upon Himself mercy: that any of you who does wrong out of ignorance and then repents after that and corrects himself - indeed, He is Forgiving and Merciful."

— Saheeh International

وَكَذَٰلِكَ

And thus

wakadhālika

نُفَصِّلُ

We explain

nufaṣṣilu

ٱلْـَٔايَـٰتِ

the Verses

l-āyāti

وَلِتَسْتَبِينَ

so that becomes manifest

walitastabīna

سَبِيلُ

(the) way

sabīlu

ٱلْمُجْرِمِينَ

(of) the criminals

l-muj'rimīna

٥٥

And thus do We detail the verses, and [thus] the way of the criminals will become evident.

— Saheeh International

قُلْ

Say

qul

إِنِّى

Indeed I

innī

نُهِيتُ

[I] am forbidden

nuhītu

أَنْ

that

an

أَعْبُدَ

I worship

aʿbuda

ٱلَّذِينَ

those whom

alladhīna

تَدْعُونَ

you call

tadʿūna

مِن

from

min

دُونِ

besides

dūni

ٱللَّهِ ۚ

Allah

l-lahi

قُل

Say

qul

لَّآ

Not

أَتَّبِعُ

I follow

attabiʿu

أَهْوَآءَكُمْ ۙ

your (vain) desires

ahwāakum

قَدْ

certainly

qad

ضَلَلْتُ

I would go astray

ḍalaltu

إِذًۭا

then

idhan

وَمَآ

and not

wamā

أَنَا۠

I (would be)

anā

مِنَ

from

mina

ٱلْمُهْتَدِينَ

the guided-ones

l-muh'tadīna

٥٦

Say, "Indeed, I have been forbidden to worship those you invoke besides Allāh." Say, "I will not follow your desires, for I would then have gone astray, and I would not be of the [rightly] guided."

— Saheeh International

قُلْ

Say

qul

إِنِّى

Indeed, I (am)

innī

عَلَىٰ

on

ʿalā

بَيِّنَةٍۢ

clear proof

bayyinatin

مِّن

from

min

رَّبِّى

my Lord

rabbī

وَكَذَّبْتُم

while you deny

wakadhabtum

بِهِۦ ۚ

[with] it

bihi

مَا

Not

عِندِى

I have

ʿindī

مَا

what

تَسْتَعْجِلُونَ

you seek to hasten

tastaʿjilūna

بِهِۦٓ ۚ

of it

bihi

إِنِ

Not

ini

ٱلْحُكْمُ

(is) the decision

l-ḥuk'mu

إِلَّا

except

illā

لِلَّهِ ۖ

for Allah

lillahi

يَقُصُّ

He relates

yaquṣṣu

ٱلْحَقَّ ۖ

the truth

l-ḥaqa

وَهُوَ

and He

wahuwa

خَيْرُ

(is the) best

khayru

ٱلْفَـٰصِلِينَ

(of) the Deciders

l-fāṣilīna

٥٧

Say, "Indeed, I am on clear evidence from my Lord, and you have denied it. I do not have that for which you are impatient.1 The decision is only for Allāh. He relates the truth, and He is the best of deciders."

— Saheeh International

قُل

Say

qul

لَّوْ

If

law

أَنَّ

that

anna

عِندِى

(were) with me

ʿindī

مَا

what

تَسْتَعْجِلُونَ

you seek to hasten

tastaʿjilūna

بِهِۦ

of it

bihi

لَقُضِىَ

surely would have been decided

laquḍiya

ٱلْأَمْرُ

the matter

l-amru

بَيْنِى

between me

baynī

وَبَيْنَكُمْ ۗ

and between you

wabaynakum

وَٱللَّهُ

And Allah

wal-lahu

أَعْلَمُ

(is) most knowing

aʿlamu

بِٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ

of the wrongdoers

bil-ẓālimīna

٥٨

Say, "If I had that for which you are impatient, the matter would have been decided between me and you, but Allāh is most knowing of the wrongdoers."

— Saheeh International

۞ وَعِندَهُۥ

And with Him

waʿindahu

مَفَاتِحُ

(are the) keys

mafātiḥu

ٱلْغَيْبِ

(of) the unseen

l-ghaybi

لَا

no (one)

يَعْلَمُهَآ

knows them

yaʿlamuhā

إِلَّا

except

illā

هُوَ ۚ

Him

huwa

وَيَعْلَمُ

And He knows

wayaʿlamu

مَا

what

فِى

(is) in

ٱلْبَرِّ

the land

l-bari

وَٱلْبَحْرِ ۚ

and in the sea

wal-baḥri

وَمَا

And not

wamā

تَسْقُطُ

falls

tasquṭu

مِن

of

min

وَرَقَةٍ

any leaf

waraqatin

إِلَّا

but

illā

يَعْلَمُهَا

He knows it

yaʿlamuhā

وَلَا

And not

walā

حَبَّةٍۢ

a grain

ḥabbatin

فِى

in

ظُلُمَـٰتِ

the darkness[es]

ẓulumāti

ٱلْأَرْضِ

(of) the earth

l-arḍi

وَلَا

and not

walā

رَطْبٍۢ

moist

raṭbin

وَلَا

and not

walā

يَابِسٍ

dry

yābisin

إِلَّا

but

illā

فِى

(is) in

كِتَـٰبٍۢ

a Record

kitābin

مُّبِينٍۢ

Clear

mubīnin

٥٩

And with Him are the keys of the unseen; none knows them except Him. And He knows what is on the land and in the sea. Not a leaf falls but that He knows it. And no grain is there within the darknesses of the earth and no moist or dry [thing] but that it is [written] in a clear record.

— Saheeh International

وَهُوَ

And He

wahuwa

ٱلَّذِى

(is) the One Who

alladhī

يَتَوَفَّىٰكُم

takes your (soul)

yatawaffākum

بِٱلَّيْلِ

by the night

bi-al-layli

وَيَعْلَمُ

and He knows

wayaʿlamu

مَا

what

جَرَحْتُم

you committed

jaraḥtum

بِٱلنَّهَارِ

by the day

bil-nahāri

ثُمَّ

Then

thumma

يَبْعَثُكُمْ

He raises you up

yabʿathukum

فِيهِ

therein

fīhi

لِيُقْضَىٰٓ

so that is fulfilled

liyuq'ḍā

أَجَلٌۭ

(the) term

ajalun

مُّسَمًّۭى ۖ

specified

musamman

ثُمَّ

Then

thumma

إِلَيْهِ

to Him

ilayhi

مَرْجِعُكُمْ

will be your return

marjiʿukum

ثُمَّ

then

thumma

يُنَبِّئُكُم

He will inform you

yunabbi-ukum

بِمَا

about what

bimā

كُنتُمْ

you used to

kuntum

تَعْمَلُونَ

do

taʿmalūna

٦٠

And it is He who takes your souls by night1 and knows what you have committed by day. Then He revives you therein [i.e., by day] that a specified term2 may be fulfilled. Then to Him will be your return; then He will inform you about what you used to do.

— Saheeh International

وَهُوَ

And He

wahuwa

ٱلْقَاهِرُ

(is) the Subjugator

l-qāhiru

فَوْقَ

over

fawqa

عِبَادِهِۦ ۖ

His slaves

ʿibādihi

وَيُرْسِلُ

and He sends

wayur'silu

عَلَيْكُمْ

over you

ʿalaykum

حَفَظَةً

guardians

ḥafaẓatan

حَتَّىٰٓ

until

ḥattā

إِذَا

when

idhā

جَآءَ

comes

jāa

أَحَدَكُمُ

(to) anyone of you

aḥadakumu

ٱلْمَوْتُ

the death

l-mawtu

تَوَفَّتْهُ

take him

tawaffathu

رُسُلُنَا

Our messengers

rusulunā

وَهُمْ

and they

wahum

لَا

(do) not

يُفَرِّطُونَ

fail

yufarriṭūna

٦١

And He is the subjugator over His servants, and He sends over you guardian-angels until, when death comes to one of you, Our messengers [i.e., angels of death] take him, and they do not fail [in their duties].

— Saheeh International

ثُمَّ

Then

thumma

رُدُّوٓا۟

they are returned

ruddū

إِلَى

to

ilā

ٱللَّهِ

Allah

l-lahi

مَوْلَىٰهُمُ

their Protector

mawlāhumu

ٱلْحَقِّ ۚ

[the] True

l-ḥaqi

أَلَا

Unquestionably

alā

لَهُ

for Him

lahu

ٱلْحُكْمُ

(is) the judgment

l-ḥuk'mu

وَهُوَ

And He

wahuwa

أَسْرَعُ

(is) swiftest

asraʿu

ٱلْحَـٰسِبِينَ

(of) the Reckoners

l-ḥāsibīna

٦٢

Then they [i.e., His servants] are returned to Allāh, their true Lord. Unquestionably, His is the judgement, and He is the swiftest of accountants.

— Saheeh International

قُلْ

Say

qul

مَن

Who

man

يُنَجِّيكُم

saves you

yunajjīkum

مِّن

from

min

ظُلُمَـٰتِ

darkness[es]

ẓulumāti

ٱلْبَرِّ

(of) the land

l-bari

وَٱلْبَحْرِ

and the sea

wal-baḥri

تَدْعُونَهُۥ

you call Him

tadʿūnahu

تَضَرُّعًۭا

humbly

taḍarruʿan

وَخُفْيَةًۭ

and secretly

wakhuf'yatan

لَّئِنْ

If

la-in

أَنجَىٰنَا

He saves us

anjānā

مِنْ

from

min

هَـٰذِهِۦ

this

hādhihi

لَنَكُونَنَّ

surely we will be

lanakūnanna

مِنَ

from

mina

ٱلشَّـٰكِرِينَ

the grateful ones

l-shākirīna

٦٣

Say, "Who rescues you from the darknesses of the land and sea [when] you call upon Him imploring [aloud] and privately, 'If He should save us from this [crisis], we will surely be among the thankful.'"

— Saheeh International

قُلِ

Say

ٱللَّهُ

Allah

l-lahu

يُنَجِّيكُم

saves you

yunajjīkum

مِّنْهَا

from it

min'hā

وَمِن

and from

wamin

كُلِّ

every

kulli

كَرْبٍۢ

distress

karbin

ثُمَّ

yet

thumma

أَنتُمْ

you

antum

تُشْرِكُونَ

associate partners (with Allah)

tush'rikūna

٦٤

Say, "It is Allāh who saves you from it and from every distress; then you [still] associate others with Him."

— Saheeh International

قُلْ

Say

qul

هُوَ

He

huwa

ٱلْقَادِرُ

(is) All-Capable

l-qādiru

عَلَىٰٓ

[on]

ʿalā

أَن

to

an

يَبْعَثَ

send

yabʿatha

عَلَيْكُمْ

upon you

ʿalaykum

عَذَابًۭا

punishment

ʿadhāban

مِّن

from

min

فَوْقِكُمْ

above you

fawqikum

أَوْ

or

aw

مِن

from

min

تَحْتِ

beneath

taḥti

أَرْجُلِكُمْ

your feet

arjulikum

أَوْ

or

aw

يَلْبِسَكُمْ

(to) confuse you

yalbisakum

شِيَعًۭا

(into) sects

shiyaʿan

وَيُذِيقَ

and make (you) taste

wayudhīqa

بَعْضَكُم

some of you

baʿḍakum

بَأْسَ

violence

basa

بَعْضٍ ۗ

(of) others

baʿḍin

ٱنظُرْ

See

unẓur

كَيْفَ

how

kayfa

نُصَرِّفُ

We explain

nuṣarrifu

ٱلْـَٔايَـٰتِ

the Signs

l-āyāti

لَعَلَّهُمْ

so that they may

laʿallahum

يَفْقَهُونَ

understand

yafqahūna

٦٥

Say, "He is the [one] Able to send upon you affliction from above you or from beneath your feet or to confuse you [so you become] sects1 and make you taste the violence of one another." Look how We diversify the signs that they might understand.

— Saheeh International

وَكَذَّبَ

But denied

wakadhaba

بِهِۦ

it

bihi

قَوْمُكَ

your people

qawmuka

وَهُوَ

while it

wahuwa

ٱلْحَقُّ ۚ

(is) the truth

l-ḥaqu

قُل

Say

qul

لَّسْتُ

I am not

lastu

عَلَيْكُم

over you

ʿalaykum

بِوَكِيلٍۢ

a manager

biwakīlin

٦٦

But your people have denied it while it is the truth. Say, "I am not over you a manager [i.e., authority]."

— Saheeh International

لِّكُلِّ

For every

likulli

نَبَإٍۢ

news

naba-in

مُّسْتَقَرٌّۭ ۚ

(is) a fixed time

mus'taqarrun

وَسَوْفَ

and soon

wasawfa

تَعْلَمُونَ

you will know

taʿlamūna

٦٧

For every news [i.e., happening] is a finality;1 and you are going to know.

— Saheeh International

وَإِذَا

And when

wa-idhā

رَأَيْتَ

you see

ra-ayta

ٱلَّذِينَ

those who

alladhīna

يَخُوضُونَ

engage (in vain talks)

yakhūḍūna

فِىٓ

about

ءَايَـٰتِنَا

Our Verses

āyātinā

فَأَعْرِضْ

then turn away

fa-aʿriḍ

عَنْهُمْ

from them

ʿanhum

حَتَّىٰ

until

ḥattā

يَخُوضُوا۟

they engage

yakhūḍū

فِى

in

حَدِيثٍ

a talk

ḥadīthin

غَيْرِهِۦ ۚ

other than it

ghayrihi

وَإِمَّا

And if

wa-immā

يُنسِيَنَّكَ

causes you to forget

yunsiyannaka

ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنُ

the Shaitaan

l-shayṭānu

فَلَا

then (do) not

falā

تَقْعُدْ

sit

taqʿud

بَعْدَ

after

baʿda

ٱلذِّكْرَىٰ

the reminder

l-dhik'rā

مَعَ

with

maʿa

ٱلْقَوْمِ

the people

l-qawmi

ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ

the wrongdoers

l-ẓālimīna

٦٨

And when you see those who engage in [offensive] discourse1 concerning Our verses, then turn away from them until they enter into another conversation. And if Satan should cause you to forget, then do not remain after the reminder with the wrongdoing people.

— Saheeh International

وَمَا

And not

wamā

عَلَى

(is) on

ʿalā

ٱلَّذِينَ

those who

alladhīna

يَتَّقُونَ

fear (Allah)

yattaqūna

مِنْ

of

min

حِسَابِهِم

their account

ḥisābihim

مِّن

[of]

min

شَىْءٍۢ

anything

shayin

وَلَـٰكِن

but

walākin

ذِكْرَىٰ

(for) reminder

dhik'rā

لَعَلَّهُمْ

so that they may

laʿallahum

يَتَّقُونَ

fear (Allah)

yattaqūna

٦٩

And those who fear Allāh are not held accountable for them [i.e., the disbelievers] at all, but [only for] a reminder - that perhaps they will fear Him.

— Saheeh International

وَذَرِ

And leave

wadhari

ٱلَّذِينَ

those who

alladhīna

ٱتَّخَذُوا۟

take

ittakhadhū

دِينَهُمْ

their religion

dīnahum

لَعِبًۭا

(as) a play

laʿiban

وَلَهْوًۭا

and amusement

walahwan

وَغَرَّتْهُمُ

and deluded them

wagharrathumu

ٱلْحَيَوٰةُ

the life

l-ḥayatu

ٱلدُّنْيَا ۚ

(of) the world

l-dun'yā

وَذَكِّرْ

But remind

wadhakkir

بِهِۦٓ

with it

bihi

أَن

lest

an

تُبْسَلَ

is given up to destruction

tub'sala

نَفْسٌۢ

a soul

nafsun

بِمَا

for what

bimā

كَسَبَتْ

it (has) earned

kasabat

لَيْسَ

not

laysa

لَهَا

(is) for it

lahā

مِن

from

min

دُونِ

besides

dūni

ٱللَّهِ

Allah

l-lahi

وَلِىٌّۭ

any protector

waliyyun

وَلَا

and not

walā

شَفِيعٌۭ

any intercessor

shafīʿun

وَإِن

And if

wa-in

تَعْدِلْ

it offers ransom

taʿdil

كُلَّ

every

kulla

عَدْلٍۢ

ransom

ʿadlin

لَّا

not

يُؤْخَذْ

will it be taken

yu'khadh

مِنْهَآ ۗ

from it

min'hā

أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ

Those

ulāika

ٱلَّذِينَ

(are) ones who

alladhīna

أُبْسِلُوا۟

are given to destruction

ub'silū

بِمَا

for what

bimā

كَسَبُوا۟ ۖ

they earned

kasabū

لَهُمْ

For them

lahum

شَرَابٌۭ

(will be) a drink

sharābun

مِّنْ

of

min

حَمِيمٍۢ

boiling water

ḥamīmin

وَعَذَابٌ

and a punishment

waʿadhābun

أَلِيمٌۢ

painful

alīmun

بِمَا

because

bimā

كَانُوا۟

they used to

kānū

يَكْفُرُونَ

disbelieve

yakfurūna

٧٠

And leave those who take their religion as amusement and diversion and whom the worldly life has deluded. But remind with it [i.e., the Qur’ān], lest a soul be given up to destruction for what it earned; it will have other than Allāh no protector and no intercessor. And if it should offer every compensation, it would not be taken from it [i.e., that soul]. Those are the ones who are given to destruction for what they have earned. For them will be a drink of scalding water and a painful punishment because they used to disbelieve.

— Saheeh International

قُلْ

Say

qul

أَنَدْعُوا۟

Shall we call

anadʿū

مِن

from

min

دُونِ

besides

dūni

ٱللَّهِ

Allah

l-lahi

مَا

what

لَا

not

يَنفَعُنَا

benefits us

yanfaʿunā

وَلَا

and not

walā

يَضُرُّنَا

harms us

yaḍurrunā

وَنُرَدُّ

and we turn back

wanuraddu

عَلَىٰٓ

on

ʿalā

أَعْقَابِنَا

our heels

aʿqābinā

بَعْدَ

after

baʿda

إِذْ

[when]

idh

هَدَىٰنَا

(has) guided us

hadānā

ٱللَّهُ

Allah

l-lahu

كَٱلَّذِى

Like the one

ka-alladhī

ٱسْتَهْوَتْهُ

whom (has been) enticed

is'tahwathu

ٱلشَّيَـٰطِينُ

(by) the Shaitaan

l-shayāṭīnu

فِى

in

ٱلْأَرْضِ

the earth

l-arḍi

حَيْرَانَ

confused

ḥayrāna

لَهُۥٓ

he has

lahu

أَصْحَـٰبٌۭ

companions

aṣḥābun

يَدْعُونَهُۥٓ

who call him

yadʿūnahu

إِلَى

towards

ilā

ٱلْهُدَى

the guidance

l-hudā

ٱئْتِنَا ۗ

'Come to us.'

i'tinā

قُلْ

Say

qul

إِنَّ

Indeed

inna

هُدَى

(the) Guidance

hudā

ٱللَّهِ

(of) Allah

l-lahi

هُوَ

it

huwa

ٱلْهُدَىٰ ۖ

(is) the Guidance

l-hudā

وَأُمِرْنَا

and we have been commanded

wa-umir'nā

لِنُسْلِمَ

that we submit

linus'lima

لِرَبِّ

to (the) Lord

lirabbi

ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ

(of) the worlds

l-ʿālamīna

٧١

Say, "Shall we invoke1 instead of Allāh that which neither benefits us nor harms us and be turned back on our heels after Allāh has guided us? [We would then be] like one whom the devils enticed [to wander] upon the earth confused, [while] he has companions inviting him to guidance, [calling], 'Come to us.'"2 Say, "Indeed, the guidance of Allāh is the [only] guidance; and we have been commanded to submit to the Lord of the worlds.

— Saheeh International

وَأَنْ

And to

wa-an

أَقِيمُوا۟

establish

aqīmū

ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ

the prayer

l-ṣalata

وَٱتَّقُوهُ ۚ

and fear Him

wa-ittaqūhu

وَهُوَ

And He

wahuwa

ٱلَّذِىٓ

(is) the One

alladhī

إِلَيْهِ

to Him

ilayhi

تُحْشَرُونَ

you will be gathered

tuḥ'sharūna

٧٢

And to establish prayer and fear Him." And it is He to whom you will be gathered.

— Saheeh International

وَهُوَ

And (it is) He

wahuwa

ٱلَّذِى

Who

alladhī

خَلَقَ

created

khalaqa

ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ

the heavens

l-samāwāti

وَٱلْأَرْضَ

and the earth

wal-arḍa

بِٱلْحَقِّ ۖ

in truth

bil-ḥaqi

وَيَوْمَ

And (the) Day

wayawma

يَقُولُ

He says

yaqūlu

كُن

Be

kun

فَيَكُونُ ۚ

and it is

fayakūnu

قَوْلُهُ

His word

qawluhu

ٱلْحَقُّ ۚ

(is) the truth

l-ḥaqu

وَلَهُ

And for Him

walahu

ٱلْمُلْكُ

(is) the Dominion

l-mul'ku

يَوْمَ

(on the) Day

yawma

يُنفَخُ

will be blown

yunfakhu

فِى

in

ٱلصُّورِ ۚ

the trumpet

l-ṣūri

عَـٰلِمُ

(He is) All-Knower

ʿālimu

ٱلْغَيْبِ

(of) the unseen

l-ghaybi

وَٱلشَّهَـٰدَةِ ۚ

and the seen

wal-shahādati

وَهُوَ

And He

wahuwa

ٱلْحَكِيمُ

(is) the All-Wise

l-ḥakīmu

ٱلْخَبِيرُ

the All-Aware

l-khabīru

٧٣

And it is He who created the heavens and earth in truth. And the day [i.e., whenever] He says, "Be," and it is, His word is the truth.1 And His is the dominion [on] the Day the Horn is blown. [He is] Knower of the unseen2 and the witnessed;3 and He is the Wise, the Aware.

— Saheeh International

۞ وَإِذْ

And when

wa-idh

قَالَ

said

qāla

إِبْرَٰهِيمُ

Ibrahim

ib'rāhīmu

لِأَبِيهِ

to his father

li-abīhi

ءَازَرَ

Azar

āzara

أَتَتَّخِذُ

Do you take

atattakhidhu

أَصْنَامًا

idols

aṣnāman

ءَالِهَةً ۖ

(as) gods

ālihatan

إِنِّىٓ

Indeed, I

innī

أَرَىٰكَ

[I] see you

arāka

وَقَوْمَكَ

and your people

waqawmaka

فِى

in

ضَلَـٰلٍۢ

error

ḍalālin

مُّبِينٍۢ

manifest

mubīnin

٧٤

And [mention, O Muḥammad], when Abraham said to his father Āzar, "Do you take idols as deities? Indeed, I see you and your people to be in manifest error."

— Saheeh International

وَكَذَٰلِكَ

And thus

wakadhālika

نُرِىٓ

We show(ed)

nurī

إِبْرَٰهِيمَ

Ibrahim

ib'rāhīma

مَلَكُوتَ

the kingdom

malakūta

ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ

(of) the heavens

l-samāwāti

وَٱلْأَرْضِ

and the earth

wal-arḍi

وَلِيَكُونَ

so that he would be

waliyakūna

مِنَ

among

mina

ٱلْمُوقِنِينَ

the ones who are certain

l-mūqinīna

٧٥

And thus did We show Abraham the realm of the heavens and the earth that he would be among the certain [in faith].

— Saheeh International

فَلَمَّا

So when

falammā

جَنَّ

covered

janna

عَلَيْهِ

over him

ʿalayhi

ٱلَّيْلُ

the night

al-laylu

رَءَا

he saw

raā

كَوْكَبًۭا ۖ

a star

kawkaban

قَالَ

He said

qāla

هَـٰذَا

This

hādhā

رَبِّى ۖ

(is) my Lord

rabbī

فَلَمَّآ

But when

falammā

أَفَلَ

it set

afala

قَالَ

he said

qāla

لَآ

Not

أُحِبُّ

(do) I like

uḥibbu

ٱلْـَٔافِلِينَ

the ones that set

l-āfilīna

٧٦

So when the night covered him [with darkness], he saw a star. He said, "This is my lord."1 But when it set, he said, "I like not those that set [i.e., disappear]."

— Saheeh International

فَلَمَّا

When

falammā

رَءَا

he saw

raā

ٱلْقَمَرَ

the moon

l-qamara

بَازِغًۭا

rising

bāzighan

قَالَ

he said

qāla

هَـٰذَا

This

hādhā

رَبِّى ۖ

(is) my Lord

rabbī

فَلَمَّآ

But when

falammā

أَفَلَ

it set

afala

قَالَ

he said

qāla

لَئِن

If

la-in

لَّمْ

(does) not

lam

يَهْدِنِى

guide me

yahdinī

رَبِّى

my Lord

rabbī

لَأَكُونَنَّ

I will surely be

la-akūnanna

مِنَ

among

mina

ٱلْقَوْمِ

the people

l-qawmi

ٱلضَّآلِّينَ

who went astray

l-ḍālīna

٧٧

And when he saw the moon rising, he said, "This is my lord." But when it set, he said, "Unless my Lord guides me, I will surely be among the people gone astray."

— Saheeh International

فَلَمَّا

When

falammā

رَءَا

he saw

raā

ٱلشَّمْسَ

the sun

l-shamsa

بَازِغَةًۭ

rising

bāzighatan

قَالَ

he said

qāla

هَـٰذَا

This (is)

hādhā

رَبِّى

my Lord

rabbī

هَـٰذَآ

this (is)

hādhā

أَكْبَرُ ۖ

greater

akbaru

فَلَمَّآ

But when

falammā

أَفَلَتْ

it set

afalat

قَالَ

he said

qāla

يَـٰقَوْمِ

O my people

yāqawmi

إِنِّى

Indeed, I am

innī

بَرِىٓءٌۭ

free

barīon

مِّمَّا

of what

mimmā

تُشْرِكُونَ

you associate (with Allah)

tush'rikūna

٧٨

And when he saw the sun rising, he said, "This is my lord; this is greater." But when it set, he said, "O my people, indeed I am free from what you associate with Allāh.

— Saheeh International

إِنِّى

Indeed, I

innī

وَجَّهْتُ

[I] have turned

wajjahtu

وَجْهِىَ

my face

wajhiya

لِلَّذِى

to the One Who

lilladhī

فَطَرَ

created

faṭara

ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ

the heavens

l-samāwāti

وَٱلْأَرْضَ

and the earth

wal-arḍa

حَنِيفًۭا ۖ

(as) a true monotheist

ḥanīfan

وَمَآ

and not

wamā

أَنَا۠

I (am)

anā

مِنَ

of

mina

ٱلْمُشْرِكِينَ

the polytheists

l-mush'rikīna

٧٩

Indeed, I have turned my face [i.e., self] toward He who created the heavens and the earth, inclining toward truth, and I am not of those who associate others with Allāh."

— Saheeh International

وَحَآجَّهُۥ

And argued with him

waḥājjahu

قَوْمُهُۥ ۚ

his people

qawmuhu

قَالَ

He said

qāla

أَتُحَـٰٓجُّوٓنِّى

Do you argue with me

atuḥājjūnnī

فِى

concerning

ٱللَّهِ

Allah

l-lahi

وَقَدْ

while certainly

waqad

هَدَىٰنِ ۚ

He has guided me

hadāni

وَلَآ

And not

walā

أَخَافُ

(do) I fear

akhāfu

مَا

what

تُشْرِكُونَ

you associate

tush'rikūna

بِهِۦٓ

with Him

bihi

إِلَّآ

unless

illā

أَن

[that]

an

يَشَآءَ

wills

yashāa

رَبِّى

my Lord

rabbī

شَيْـًۭٔا ۗ

anything

shayan

وَسِعَ

Encompasses

wasiʿa

رَبِّى

my Lord

rabbī

كُلَّ

every

kulla

شَىْءٍ

thing

shayin

عِلْمًا ۗ

(in) knowledge

ʿil'man

أَفَلَا

Then will not

afalā

تَتَذَكَّرُونَ

you take heed

tatadhakkarūna

٨٠

And his people argued with him. He said, "Do you argue with me concerning Allāh while He has guided me? And I fear not what you associate with Him [and will not be harmed] unless my Lord should will something. My Lord encompasses all things in knowledge; then will you not remember?

— Saheeh International

وَكَيْفَ

And how

wakayfa

أَخَافُ

could I fear

akhāfu

مَآ

what

أَشْرَكْتُمْ

you associate (with Allah)

ashraktum

وَلَا

while not

walā

تَخَافُونَ

you fear

takhāfūna

أَنَّكُمْ

that you

annakum

أَشْرَكْتُم

have associated

ashraktum

بِٱللَّهِ

with Allah

bil-lahi

مَا

what

لَمْ

not

lam

يُنَزِّلْ

did He send down

yunazzil

بِهِۦ

for it

bihi

عَلَيْكُمْ

to you

ʿalaykum

سُلْطَـٰنًۭا ۚ

any authority

sul'ṭānan

فَأَىُّ

So which

fa-ayyu

ٱلْفَرِيقَيْنِ

(of) the two parties

l-farīqayni

أَحَقُّ

has more right

aḥaqqu

بِٱلْأَمْنِ ۖ

to security

bil-amni

إِن

if

in

كُنتُمْ

you

kuntum

تَعْلَمُونَ

know

taʿlamūna

٨١

And how should I fear what you associate while you do not fear that you have associated with Allāh that for which He has not sent down to you any authority? So which of the two parties has more right to security, if you should know?"

— Saheeh International

ٱلَّذِينَ

Those who

alladhīna

ءَامَنُوا۟

believed

āmanū

وَلَمْ

and (did) not

walam

يَلْبِسُوٓا۟

mix

yalbisū

إِيمَـٰنَهُم

their belief

īmānahum

بِظُلْمٍ

with wrong

biẓul'min

أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ

those

ulāika

لَهُمُ

for them

lahumu

ٱلْأَمْنُ

(is) the security

l-amnu

وَهُم

and they

wahum

مُّهْتَدُونَ

(are) rightly guided

muh'tadūna

٨٢

They who believe and do not mix their belief with injustice1 - those will have security, and they are [rightly] guided.

— Saheeh International

وَتِلْكَ

And this

watil'ka

حُجَّتُنَآ

(is) Our argument

ḥujjatunā

ءَاتَيْنَـٰهَآ

We gave it

ātaynāhā

إِبْرَٰهِيمَ

(to) Ibrahim

ib'rāhīma

عَلَىٰ

against

ʿalā

قَوْمِهِۦ ۚ

his people

qawmihi

نَرْفَعُ

We raise

narfaʿu

دَرَجَـٰتٍۢ

(by) degrees

darajātin

مَّن

whom

man

نَّشَآءُ ۗ

We will

nashāu

إِنَّ

Indeed

inna

رَبَّكَ

your Lord

rabbaka

حَكِيمٌ

(is) All-Wise

ḥakīmun

عَلِيمٌۭ

All-Knowing

ʿalīmun

٨٣

And that was Our [conclusive] argument which We gave Abraham against his people. We raise by degrees whom We will. Indeed, your Lord is Wise and Knowing.

— Saheeh International

وَوَهَبْنَا

And We bestowed

wawahabnā

لَهُۥٓ

to him

lahu

إِسْحَـٰقَ

Isaac

is'ḥāqa

وَيَعْقُوبَ ۚ

and Yaqub

wayaʿqūba

كُلًّا

all

kullan

هَدَيْنَا ۚ

We guided

hadaynā

وَنُوحًا

And Nuh

wanūḥan

هَدَيْنَا

We guided

hadaynā

مِن

from

min

قَبْلُ ۖ

before

qablu

وَمِن

and of

wamin

ذُرِّيَّتِهِۦ

his descendents

dhurriyyatihi

دَاوُۥدَ

Dawood

dāwūda

وَسُلَيْمَـٰنَ

and Sulaiman

wasulaymāna

وَأَيُّوبَ

and Ayyub

wa-ayyūba

وَيُوسُفَ

and Yusuf

wayūsufa

وَمُوسَىٰ

and Musa

wamūsā

وَهَـٰرُونَ ۚ

and Harun

wahārūna

وَكَذَٰلِكَ

And thus

wakadhālika

نَجْزِى

We reward

najzī

ٱلْمُحْسِنِينَ

the good-doers

l-muḥ'sinīna

٨٤

And We gave to him [i.e., Abraham] Isaac and Jacob - all [of them] We guided. And Noah, We guided before; and among his descendants, David and Solomon and Job and Joseph and Moses and Aaron. Thus do We reward the doers of good.

— Saheeh International

وَزَكَرِيَّا

And Zakariya

wazakariyyā

وَيَحْيَىٰ

and Yahya

wayaḥyā

وَعِيسَىٰ

and Isa

waʿīsā

وَإِلْيَاسَ ۖ

and Elijah

wa-il'yāsa

كُلٌّۭ

all (were)

kullun

مِّنَ

of

mina

ٱلصَّـٰلِحِينَ

the righteous

l-ṣāliḥīna

٨٥

And Zechariah and John and Jesus and Elias - and all were of the righteous.

— Saheeh International

وَإِسْمَـٰعِيلَ

And Ishmael

wa-is'māʿīla

وَٱلْيَسَعَ

and Elisha

wal-yasaʿa

وَيُونُسَ

and Yunus

wayūnusa

وَلُوطًۭا ۚ

and Lut

walūṭan

وَكُلًّۭا

and all

wakullan

فَضَّلْنَا

We preferred

faḍḍalnā

عَلَى

over

ʿalā

ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ

the worlds

l-ʿālamīna

٨٦

And Ishmael and Elisha and Jonah and Lot - and all [of them] We preferred over the worlds.

— Saheeh International

وَمِنْ

And from

wamin

ءَابَآئِهِمْ

their fathers

ābāihim

وَذُرِّيَّـٰتِهِمْ

and their descendents

wadhurriyyātihim

وَإِخْوَٰنِهِمْ ۖ

and their brothers

wa-ikh'wānihim

وَٱجْتَبَيْنَـٰهُمْ

and We chose them

wa-ij'tabaynāhum

وَهَدَيْنَـٰهُمْ

and We guided them

wahadaynāhum

إِلَىٰ

to

ilā

صِرَٰطٍۢ

a path

ṣirāṭin

مُّسْتَقِيمٍۢ

straight

mus'taqīmin

٨٧

And [some] among their fathers and their descendants and their brothers - and We chose them and We guided them to a straight path.

— Saheeh International

ذَٰلِكَ

That

dhālika

هُدَى

(is the) Guidance

hudā

ٱللَّهِ

(of) Allah

l-lahi

يَهْدِى

He guides

yahdī

بِهِۦ

with it

bihi

مَن

whom

man

يَشَآءُ

He wills

yashāu

مِنْ

of

min

عِبَادِهِۦ ۚ

His slaves

ʿibādihi

وَلَوْ

But if

walaw

أَشْرَكُوا۟

they (had) associated partners (with Allah)

ashrakū

لَحَبِطَ

surely (would be) worthless

laḥabiṭa

عَنْهُم

for them

ʿanhum

مَّا

what

كَانُوا۟

they used to

kānū

يَعْمَلُونَ

do

yaʿmalūna

٨٨

That is the guidance of Allāh by which He guides whomever He wills of His servants. But if they had associated others with Allāh, then worthless for them would be whatever they were doing.

— Saheeh International

أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ

Those

ulāika

ٱلَّذِينَ

(are) ones whom

alladhīna

ءَاتَيْنَـٰهُمُ

We gave them

ātaynāhumu

ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ

the Book

l-kitāba

وَٱلْحُكْمَ

and the judgment

wal-ḥuk'ma

وَٱلنُّبُوَّةَ ۚ

and the Prophethood

wal-nubuwata

فَإِن

But if

fa-in

يَكْفُرْ

disbelieve

yakfur

بِهَا

in it

bihā

هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ

these

hāulāi

فَقَدْ

then indeed

faqad

وَكَّلْنَا

We have entrusted

wakkalnā

بِهَا

it

bihā

قَوْمًۭا

(to) a people

qawman

لَّيْسُوا۟

who are not

laysū

بِهَا

therein

bihā

بِكَـٰفِرِينَ

disbelievers

bikāfirīna

٨٩

Those are the ones to whom We gave the Scripture and authority and prophethood. But if they [i.e., the disbelievers] deny it, then We have entrusted it to a people who are not therein disbelievers.

— Saheeh International

أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ

Those

ulāika

ٱلَّذِينَ

(are) ones whom

alladhīna

هَدَى

(have been) guided

hadā

ٱللَّهُ ۖ

(by) Allah

l-lahu

فَبِهُدَىٰهُمُ

so of their guidance

fabihudāhumu

ٱقْتَدِهْ ۗ

you follow

iq'tadih

قُل

Say

qul

لَّآ

Not

أَسْـَٔلُكُمْ

I ask you

asalukum

عَلَيْهِ

for it

ʿalayhi

أَجْرًا ۖ

any reward

ajran

إِنْ

Not

in

هُوَ

(is) it

huwa

إِلَّا

but

illā

ذِكْرَىٰ

a reminder

dhik'rā

لِلْعَـٰلَمِينَ

for the worlds

lil'ʿālamīna

٩٠

Those are the ones whom Allāh has guided, so from their guidance take an example. Say, "I ask of you for it [i.e., this message] no payment. It is not but a reminder for the worlds."

— Saheeh International

وَمَا

And not

wamā

قَدَرُوا۟

they appraised

qadarū

ٱللَّهَ

Allah

l-laha

حَقَّ

(with) true

ḥaqqa

قَدْرِهِۦٓ

[of his] appraisal

qadrihi

إِذْ

when

idh

قَالُوا۟

they said

qālū

مَآ

Not

أَنزَلَ

revealed

anzala

ٱللَّهُ

(by) Allah

l-lahu

عَلَىٰ

on

ʿalā

بَشَرٍۢ

a human being

basharin

مِّن

[of]

min

شَىْءٍۢ ۗ

anything

shayin

قُلْ

Say

qul

مَنْ

Who

man

أَنزَلَ

revealed

anzala

ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ

the Book

l-kitāba

ٱلَّذِى

which

alladhī

جَآءَ

brought

jāa

بِهِۦ

[it]

bihi

مُوسَىٰ

Musa

mūsā

نُورًۭا

(as) a light

nūran

وَهُدًۭى

and guidance

wahudan

لِّلنَّاسِ ۖ

for the people

lilnnāsi

تَجْعَلُونَهُۥ

You make it

tajʿalūnahu

قَرَاطِيسَ

(into) parchments

qarāṭīsa

تُبْدُونَهَا

you disclose (some of) it

tub'dūnahā

وَتُخْفُونَ

and you conceal

watukh'fūna

كَثِيرًۭا ۖ

much (of it)

kathīran

وَعُلِّمْتُم

And you were taught

waʿullim'tum

مَّا

what

لَمْ

not

lam

تَعْلَمُوٓا۟

knew

taʿlamū

أَنتُمْ

you

antum

وَلَآ

and not

walā

ءَابَآؤُكُمْ ۖ

your forefathers

ābāukum

قُلِ

Say

quli

ٱللَّهُ ۖ

Allah (revealed it)

l-lahu

ثُمَّ

Then

thumma

ذَرْهُمْ

leave them

dharhum

فِى

in

خَوْضِهِمْ

their discourse

khawḍihim

يَلْعَبُونَ

playing

yalʿabūna

٩١

And they did not appraise Allāh with true appraisal1 when they said, "Allāh did not reveal to a human being anything." Say, "Who revealed the Scripture that Moses brought as light and guidance to the people? You [Jews] make it into pages, disclosing [some of] it and concealing much. And you2 were taught that which you knew not - neither you nor your fathers." Say, "Allāh [revealed it]." Then leave them in their [empty] discourse, amusing themselves.

— Saheeh International

وَهَـٰذَا

And this

wahādhā

كِتَـٰبٌ

(is) a Book

kitābun

أَنزَلْنَـٰهُ

We have revealed it

anzalnāhu

مُبَارَكٌۭ

blessed

mubārakun

مُّصَدِّقُ

confirming

muṣaddiqu

ٱلَّذِى

which

alladhī

بَيْنَ

(came) before

bayna

يَدَيْهِ

its hands

yadayhi

وَلِتُنذِرَ

so that you may warn

walitundhira

أُمَّ

(the) mother

umma

ٱلْقُرَىٰ

(of) the cities

l-qurā

وَمَنْ

and who

waman

حَوْلَهَا ۚ

(are) around it

ḥawlahā

وَٱلَّذِينَ

And those who

wa-alladhīna

يُؤْمِنُونَ

believe

yu'minūna

بِٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ

in the Hereafter

bil-ākhirati

يُؤْمِنُونَ

they believe

yu'minūna

بِهِۦ ۖ

in it

bihi

وَهُمْ

and they

wahum

عَلَىٰ

over

ʿalā

صَلَاتِهِمْ

their prayers

ṣalātihim

يُحَافِظُونَ

(are) guarding

yuḥāfiẓūna

٩٢

And this is a Book which We have sent down, blessed and confirming what was before it, that you may warn the Mother of Cities [i.e., Makkah] and those around it.1 Those who believe in the Hereafter believe in it, and they are maintaining their prayers.

— Saheeh International

وَمَنْ

And who

waman

أَظْلَمُ

مِمَّنِ

than (one) who

mimmani

ٱفْتَرَىٰ

invents

if'tarā

عَلَى

about

ʿalā

ٱللَّهِ

Allah

l-lahi

كَذِبًا

a lie

kadhiban

أَوْ

or

aw

قَالَ

said

qāla

أُوحِىَ

It has been inspired

ūḥiya

إِلَىَّ

to me

ilayya

وَلَمْ

while not

walam

يُوحَ

it was inspired

yūḥa

إِلَيْهِ

to him

ilayhi

شَىْءٌۭ

anything

shayon

وَمَن

and (one) who

waman

قَالَ

said

qāla

سَأُنزِلُ

I will reveal

sa-unzilu

مِثْلَ

like

mith'la

مَآ

what

أَنزَلَ

(has been) revealed

anzala

ٱللَّهُ ۗ

(by) Allah

l-lahu

وَلَوْ

And if

walaw

تَرَىٰٓ

you (could) see

tarā

إِذِ

when

idhi

ٱلظَّـٰلِمُونَ

the wrongdoers

l-ẓālimūna

فِى

(are) in

غَمَرَٰتِ

agonies

ghamarāti

ٱلْمَوْتِ

(of) [the] death

l-mawti

وَٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةُ

while the Angels

wal-malāikatu

بَاسِطُوٓا۟

(are) stretching out

bāsiṭū

أَيْدِيهِمْ

their hands (saying)

aydīhim

أَخْرِجُوٓا۟

Discharge

akhrijū

أَنفُسَكُمُ ۖ

your souls

anfusakumu

ٱلْيَوْمَ

Today

l-yawma

تُجْزَوْنَ

you will be recompensed

tuj'zawna

عَذَابَ

(with) punishment

ʿadhāba

ٱلْهُونِ

humiliating

l-hūni

بِمَا

because

bimā

كُنتُمْ

you used to

kuntum

تَقُولُونَ

say

taqūlūna

عَلَى

against

ʿalā

ٱللَّهِ

Allah

l-lahi

غَيْرَ

other than

ghayra

ٱلْحَقِّ

the truth

l-ḥaqi

وَكُنتُمْ

and you were

wakuntum

عَنْ

towards

ʿan

ءَايَـٰتِهِۦ

His Verses

āyātihi

تَسْتَكْبِرُونَ

being arrogant

tastakbirūna

٩٣

And who is more unjust than one who invents a lie about Allāh or says, "It has been inspired to me," while nothing has been inspired to him, and one who says, "I will reveal [something] like what Allāh revealed." And if you could but see when the wrongdoers are in the overwhelming pangs of death while the angels extend their hands,1 [saying], "Discharge your souls! Today you will be awarded the punishment of [extreme] humiliation for what you used to say against Allāh other than the truth and [that] you were, toward His verses, being arrogant."

— Saheeh International

وَلَقَدْ

And certainly

walaqad

جِئْتُمُونَا

you have come to Us

ji'tumūnā

فُرَٰدَىٰ

alone

furādā

كَمَا

as

kamā

خَلَقْنَـٰكُمْ

We created you

khalaqnākum

أَوَّلَ

(the) first

awwala

مَرَّةٍۢ

time

marratin

وَتَرَكْتُم

and you have left

wataraktum

مَّا

whatever

خَوَّلْنَـٰكُمْ

We bestowed (on) you

khawwalnākum

وَرَآءَ

behind

warāa

ظُهُورِكُمْ ۖ

your backs

ẓuhūrikum

وَمَا

And not

wamā

نَرَىٰ

We see

narā

مَعَكُمْ

with you

maʿakum

شُفَعَآءَكُمُ

your intercessors

shufaʿāakumu

ٱلَّذِينَ

those whom

alladhīna

زَعَمْتُمْ

you claimed

zaʿamtum

أَنَّهُمْ

that they (were)

annahum

فِيكُمْ

in your (matters)

fīkum

شُرَكَـٰٓؤُا۟ ۚ

partners (with Allah)

shurakāu

لَقَد

Indeed

laqad

تَّقَطَّعَ

have been severed (bonds)

taqaṭṭaʿa

بَيْنَكُمْ

between you

baynakum

وَضَلَّ

and is lost

waḍalla

عَنكُم

from you

ʿankum

مَّا

what

كُنتُمْ

you used to

kuntum

تَزْعُمُونَ

claim

tazʿumūna

٩٤

[It will be said to them], "And you have certainly come to Us alone [i.e., individually] as We created you the first time, and you have left whatever We bestowed upon you behind you. And We do not see with you your 'intercessors' which you claimed that they were among you associates [of Allāh]. It has [all] been severed between you,1 and lost from you is what you used to claim."

— Saheeh International

۞ إِنَّ

Indeed

inna

ٱللَّهَ

Allah

l-laha

فَالِقُ

(is the) Cleaver

fāliqu

ٱلْحَبِّ

(of) the grain

l-ḥabi

وَٱلنَّوَىٰ ۖ

and the date-seed

wal-nawā

يُخْرِجُ

He brings forth

yukh'riju

ٱلْحَىَّ

the living

l-ḥaya

مِنَ

from

mina

ٱلْمَيِّتِ

the dead

l-mayiti

وَمُخْرِجُ

and brings forth

wamukh'riju

ٱلْمَيِّتِ

the dead

l-mayiti

مِنَ

from

mina

ٱلْحَىِّ ۚ

the living

l-ḥayi

ذَٰلِكُمُ

That

dhālikumu

ٱللَّهُ ۖ

(is) Allah

l-lahu

فَأَنَّىٰ

so how

fa-annā

تُؤْفَكُونَ

are you deluded

tu'fakūna

٩٥

Indeed, Allāh is the cleaver of grain and date seeds.1 He brings the living out of the dead and brings the dead out of the living. That is Allāh; so how are you deluded?

— Saheeh International

فَالِقُ

(He is the) Cleaver

fāliqu

ٱلْإِصْبَاحِ

(of) the daybreak

l-iṣ'bāḥi

وَجَعَلَ

and He has made

wajaʿala

ٱلَّيْلَ

the night

al-layla

سَكَنًۭا

(for) rest

sakanan

وَٱلشَّمْسَ

and the sun

wal-shamsa

وَٱلْقَمَرَ

and the moon

wal-qamara

حُسْبَانًۭا ۚ

(for) reckoning

ḥus'bānan

ذَٰلِكَ

That

dhālika

تَقْدِيرُ

(is the) ordaining

taqdīru

ٱلْعَزِيزِ

(of) the All-Mighty

l-ʿazīzi

ٱلْعَلِيمِ

the All-Knowing

l-ʿalīmi

٩٦

[He is] the cleaver of daybreak and has made the night for rest and the sun and moon for calculation.1 That is the determination of the Exalted in Might, the Knowing.

— Saheeh International

وَهُوَ

And He

wahuwa

ٱلَّذِى

(is) the One Who

alladhī

جَعَلَ

made

jaʿala

لَكُمُ

for you

lakumu

ٱلنُّجُومَ

the stars

l-nujūma

لِتَهْتَدُوا۟

that you may guide yourselves

litahtadū

بِهَا

with them

bihā

فِى

in

ظُلُمَـٰتِ

the darkness[es]

ẓulumāti

ٱلْبَرِّ

(of) the land

l-bari

وَٱلْبَحْرِ ۗ

and the sea

wal-baḥri

قَدْ

Certainly

qad

فَصَّلْنَا

We have made clear

faṣṣalnā

ٱلْـَٔايَـٰتِ

the Signs

l-āyāti

لِقَوْمٍۢ

for a people

liqawmin

يَعْلَمُونَ

(who) know

yaʿlamūna

٩٧

And it is He who placed for you the stars that you may be guided by them through the darknesses of the land and sea. We have detailed the signs for a people who know.

— Saheeh International

وَهُوَ

And He

wahuwa

ٱلَّذِىٓ

(is) the One Who

alladhī

أَنشَأَكُم

(has) produced you

ansha-akum

مِّن

from

min

نَّفْسٍۢ

a soul

nafsin

وَٰحِدَةٍۢ

single

wāḥidatin

فَمُسْتَقَرٌّۭ

so (there is) a place of dwelling

famus'taqarrun

وَمُسْتَوْدَعٌۭ ۗ

and a resting place

wamus'tawdaʿun

قَدْ

Certainly

qad

فَصَّلْنَا

We have made clear

faṣṣalnā

ٱلْـَٔايَـٰتِ

the Signs

l-āyāti

لِقَوْمٍۢ

for a people

liqawmin

يَفْقَهُونَ

(who) understand

yafqahūna

٩٨

And it is He who produced you from one soul and [gave you] a place of dwelling and of storage.1 We have detailed the signs for a people who understand.

— Saheeh International

وَهُوَ

And He

wahuwa

ٱلَّذِىٓ

(is) the One Who

alladhī

أَنزَلَ

sends down

anzala

مِنَ

from

mina

ٱلسَّمَآءِ

the sky

l-samāi

مَآءًۭ

water

māan

فَأَخْرَجْنَا

then We bring forth

fa-akhrajnā

بِهِۦ

with it

bihi

نَبَاتَ

vegetation

nabāta

كُلِّ

(of) every

kulli

شَىْءٍۢ

thing

shayin

فَأَخْرَجْنَا

Then We bring forth

fa-akhrajnā

مِنْهُ

from it

min'hu

خَضِرًۭا

green plant

khaḍiran

نُّخْرِجُ

We bring forth

nukh'riju

مِنْهُ

from it

min'hu

حَبًّۭا

grain

ḥabban

مُّتَرَاكِبًۭا

thick clustered

mutarākiban

وَمِنَ

And from

wamina

ٱلنَّخْلِ

the date-palm

l-nakhli

مِن

from

min

طَلْعِهَا

its spathe

ṭalʿihā

قِنْوَانٌۭ

clusters of dates

qin'wānun

دَانِيَةٌۭ

hanging low

dāniyatun

وَجَنَّـٰتٍۢ

And gardens

wajannātin

مِّنْ

of

min

أَعْنَابٍۢ

grapes

aʿnābin

وَٱلزَّيْتُونَ

and the olives

wal-zaytūna

وَٱلرُّمَّانَ

and the pomegranates

wal-rumāna

مُشْتَبِهًۭا

resembling

mush'tabihan

وَغَيْرَ

and not

waghayra

مُتَشَـٰبِهٍ ۗ

resembling

mutashābihin

ٱنظُرُوٓا۟

Look

unẓurū

إِلَىٰ

at

ilā

ثَمَرِهِۦٓ

its fruit

thamarihi

إِذَآ

when

idhā

أَثْمَرَ

it bears fruit

athmara

وَيَنْعِهِۦٓ ۚ

and its ripening

wayanʿihi

إِنَّ

Indeed

inna

فِى

in

ذَٰلِكُمْ

that

dhālikum

لَـَٔايَـٰتٍۢ

(are) signs

laāyātin

لِّقَوْمٍۢ

for a people

liqawmin

يُؤْمِنُونَ

(who) believe

yu'minūna

٩٩

And it is He who sends down rain from the sky, and We produce thereby the growth of all things. We produce from it greenery from which We produce grains arranged in layers. And from the palm trees - of its emerging fruit are clusters hanging low. And [We produce] gardens of grapevines and olives and pomegranates, similar yet varied. Look at [each of] its fruit when it yields and [at] its ripening. Indeed in that are signs for a people who believe.

— Saheeh International

وَجَعَلُوا۟

And they make

wajaʿalū

لِلَّهِ

with Allah

lillahi

شُرَكَآءَ

partners

shurakāa

ٱلْجِنَّ

jinn

l-jina

وَخَلَقَهُمْ ۖ

though He has created them

wakhalaqahum

وَخَرَقُوا۟

and they falsely attribute

wakharaqū

لَهُۥ

to Him

lahu

بَنِينَ

sons

banīna

وَبَنَـٰتٍۭ

and daughters

wabanātin

بِغَيْرِ

without

bighayri

عِلْمٍۢ ۚ

knowledge

ʿil'min

سُبْحَـٰنَهُۥ

Glorified is He

sub'ḥānahu

وَتَعَـٰلَىٰ

and Exalted

wataʿālā

عَمَّا

above what

ʿammā

يَصِفُونَ

they attribute

yaṣifūna

١٠٠

But they have attributed to Allāh partners - the jinn, while He has created them - and have fabricated for Him sons and daughters without knowledge. Exalted is He and high above what they describe.

— Saheeh International

بَدِيعُ

Originator

badīʿu

ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ

(of) the heavens

l-samāwāti

وَٱلْأَرْضِ ۖ

and the earth

wal-arḍi

أَنَّىٰ

How

annā

يَكُونُ

can be

yakūnu

لَهُۥ

for Him

lahu

وَلَدٌۭ

a son

waladun

وَلَمْ

while not

walam

تَكُن

(there) is

takun

لَّهُۥ

for Him

lahu

صَـٰحِبَةٌۭ ۖ

a companion

ṣāḥibatun

وَخَلَقَ

and He created

wakhalaqa

كُلَّ

every

kulla

شَىْءٍۢ ۖ

thing

shayin

وَهُوَ

And He

wahuwa

بِكُلِّ

(is) of every

bikulli

شَىْءٍ

thing

shayin

عَلِيمٌۭ

All-Knower

ʿalīmun

١٠١

[He is] Originator of the heavens and the earth. How could He have a son when He does not have a companion [i.e., wife] and He created all things? And He is, of all things, Knowing.

— Saheeh International

ذَٰلِكُمُ

That

dhālikumu

ٱللَّهُ

(is) Allah

l-lahu

رَبُّكُمْ ۖ

your Lord

rabbukum

لَآ

(there is) no

إِلَـٰهَ

god

ilāha

إِلَّا

except

illā

هُوَ ۖ

Him

huwa

خَـٰلِقُ

(the) Creator

khāliqu

كُلِّ

(of) every

kulli

شَىْءٍۢ

thing

shayin

فَٱعْبُدُوهُ ۚ

so worship Him

fa-uʿ'budūhu

وَهُوَ

And He

wahuwa

عَلَىٰ

(is) on

ʿalā

كُلِّ

every

kulli

شَىْءٍۢ

thing

shayin

وَكِيلٌۭ

a Guardian

wakīlun

١٠٢

That is Allāh, your Lord; there is no deity except Him, the Creator of all things, so worship Him. And He is Disposer of all things.

— Saheeh International

لَّا

Not (can)

تُدْرِكُهُ

grasp Him

tud'rikuhu

ٱلْأَبْصَـٰرُ

the visions

l-abṣāru

وَهُوَ

but He

wahuwa

يُدْرِكُ

(can) grasp

yud'riku

ٱلْأَبْصَـٰرَ ۖ

(all) the vision

l-abṣāra

وَهُوَ

and He (is)

wahuwa

ٱللَّطِيفُ

the All-Subtle

l-laṭīfu

ٱلْخَبِيرُ

the All-Aware

l-khabīru

١٠٣

Vision perceives Him not,1 but He perceives [all] vision; and He is the Subtle,2 the Aware.3

— Saheeh International

قَدْ

Verily

qad

جَآءَكُم

has come to you

jāakum

بَصَآئِرُ

enlightenment

baṣāiru

مِن

from

min

رَّبِّكُمْ ۖ

your Lord

rabbikum

فَمَنْ

Then whoever

faman

أَبْصَرَ

sees

abṣara

فَلِنَفْسِهِۦ ۖ

then (it is) for his soul

falinafsihi

وَمَنْ

and whoever

waman

عَمِىَ

(is) blind

ʿamiya

فَعَلَيْهَا ۚ

then (it is) against himself

faʿalayhā

وَمَآ

And not

wamā

أَنَا۠

(am) I

anā

عَلَيْكُم

over you

ʿalaykum

بِحَفِيظٍۢ

a guardian

biḥafīẓin

١٠٤

There has come to you enlightenment from your Lord. So whoever will see does so for [the benefit of] his soul, and whoever is blind [does harm] against it. And [say], "I am not a guardian over you."1

— Saheeh International

وَكَذَٰلِكَ

And thus

wakadhālika

نُصَرِّفُ

We explain

nuṣarrifu

ٱلْـَٔايَـٰتِ

the Signs

l-āyāti

وَلِيَقُولُوا۟

that they (may) say

waliyaqūlū

دَرَسْتَ

You have studied

darasta

وَلِنُبَيِّنَهُۥ

and that We (may) make it clear

walinubayyinahu

لِقَوْمٍۢ

for a people

liqawmin

يَعْلَمُونَ

who know

yaʿlamūna

١٠٥

And thus do We diversify the verses so they [i.e., the disbelievers] will say, "You have studied,"1 and so We may make it [i.e., the Qur’ān] clear for a people who know.

— Saheeh International

ٱتَّبِعْ

Follow

ittabiʿ

مَآ

what

أُوحِىَ

has been inspired

ūḥiya

إِلَيْكَ

to you

ilayka

مِن

from

min

رَّبِّكَ ۖ

your Lord

rabbika

لَآ

(there is) no

إِلَـٰهَ

god

ilāha

إِلَّا

except

illā

هُوَ ۖ

Him

huwa

وَأَعْرِضْ

and turn away

wa-aʿriḍ

عَنِ

from

ʿani

ٱلْمُشْرِكِينَ

the polytheists

l-mush'rikīna

١٠٦

Follow, [O Muḥammad], what has been revealed to you from your Lord - there is no deity except Him - and turn away from those who associate others with Allāh.

— Saheeh International

وَلَوْ

And if

walaw

شَآءَ

(had) willed

shāa

ٱللَّهُ

Allah

l-lahu

مَآ

not (they would have)

أَشْرَكُوا۟ ۗ

associated partners (with Him)

ashrakū

وَمَا

And not

wamā

جَعَلْنَـٰكَ

We have made you

jaʿalnāka

عَلَيْهِمْ

over them

ʿalayhim

حَفِيظًۭا ۖ

a guardian

ḥafīẓan

وَمَآ

and not

wamā

أَنتَ

you

anta

عَلَيْهِم

(are) over them

ʿalayhim

بِوَكِيلٍۢ

a manager

biwakīlin

١٠٧

But if Allāh had willed, they would not have associated. And We have not appointed you over them as a guardian, nor are you a manager over them.1

— Saheeh International

وَلَا

And (do) not

walā

تَسُبُّوا۟

insult

tasubbū

ٱلَّذِينَ

those whom

alladhīna

يَدْعُونَ

they invoke

yadʿūna

مِن

from

min

دُونِ

other than

dūni

ٱللَّهِ

Allah

l-lahi

فَيَسُبُّوا۟

lest they insult

fayasubbū

ٱللَّهَ

Allah

l-laha

عَدْوًۢا

(in) enmity

ʿadwan

بِغَيْرِ

without

bighayri

عِلْمٍۢ ۗ

knowledge

ʿil'min

كَذَٰلِكَ

Thus

kadhālika

زَيَّنَّا

We have made fair-seeming

zayyannā

لِكُلِّ

to every

likulli

أُمَّةٍ

community

ummatin

عَمَلَهُمْ

their deed

ʿamalahum

ثُمَّ

Then

thumma

إِلَىٰ

to

ilā

رَبِّهِم

their Lord

rabbihim

مَّرْجِعُهُمْ

(is) their return

marjiʿuhum

فَيُنَبِّئُهُم

then He will inform them

fayunabbi-uhum

بِمَا

about what

bimā

كَانُوا۟

they used to

kānū

يَعْمَلُونَ

do

yaʿmalūna

١٠٨

And do not insult those they invoke other than Allāh, lest they insult Allāh in enmity without knowledge. Thus We have made pleasing to every community their deeds. Then to their Lord is their return, and He will inform them about what they used to do.

— Saheeh International

وَأَقْسَمُوا۟

And they swear

wa-aqsamū

بِٱللَّهِ

by Allah

bil-lahi

جَهْدَ

strongest

jahda

أَيْمَـٰنِهِمْ

(of) their oaths

aymānihim

لَئِن

that if

la-in

جَآءَتْهُمْ

came to them

jāathum

ءَايَةٌۭ

a sign

āyatun

لَّيُؤْمِنُنَّ

they would surely believe

layu'minunna

بِهَا ۚ

in it

bihā

قُلْ

Say

qul

إِنَّمَا

Only

innamā

ٱلْـَٔايَـٰتُ

the signs

l-āyātu

عِندَ

(are) with

ʿinda

ٱللَّهِ ۖ

Allah

l-lahi

وَمَا

And what

wamā

يُشْعِرُكُمْ

will make you perceive

yush'ʿirukum

أَنَّهَآ

that [it]

annahā

إِذَا

when

idhā

جَآءَتْ

it comes

jāat

لَا

not

يُؤْمِنُونَ

they will believe

yu'minūna

١٠٩

And they swear by Allāh their strongest oaths that if a sign came to them, they would surely believe in it. Say, "The signs are only with [i.e., from] Allāh." And what will make you perceive that even if it [i.e., a sign] came, they would not believe.

— Saheeh International

وَنُقَلِّبُ

And We will turn

wanuqallibu

أَفْـِٔدَتَهُمْ

their hearts

afidatahum

وَأَبْصَـٰرَهُمْ

and their sights

wa-abṣārahum

كَمَا

(just) as

kamā

لَمْ

not

lam

يُؤْمِنُوا۟

they believe

yu'minū

بِهِۦٓ

in it

bihi

أَوَّلَ

(the) first

awwala

مَرَّةٍۢ

time

marratin

وَنَذَرُهُمْ

And We will leave them

wanadharuhum

فِى

in

طُغْيَـٰنِهِمْ

their transgression

ṭugh'yānihim

يَعْمَهُونَ

wandering blindly

yaʿmahūna

١١٠

And We will turn away their hearts and their eyes just as they refused to believe in it [i.e., the revelation] the first time. And We will leave them in their transgression, wandering blindly.

— Saheeh International

۞ وَلَوْ

And (even) if

walaw

أَنَّنَا

[that] We (had)

annanā

نَزَّلْنَآ

[We] sent down

nazzalnā

إِلَيْهِمُ

to them

ilayhimu

ٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةَ

the Angels

l-malāikata

وَكَلَّمَهُمُ

and spoken to them

wakallamahumu

ٱلْمَوْتَىٰ

the dead

l-mawtā

وَحَشَرْنَا

and We gathered

waḥasharnā

عَلَيْهِمْ

before them

ʿalayhim

كُلَّ

every

kulla

شَىْءٍۢ

thing

shayin

قُبُلًۭا

face to face

qubulan

مَّا

not

كَانُوا۟

they were

kānū

لِيُؤْمِنُوٓا۟

to believe

liyu'minū

إِلَّآ

unless

illā

أَن

[that]

an

يَشَآءَ

wills

yashāa

ٱللَّهُ

Allah

l-lahu

وَلَـٰكِنَّ

But

walākinna

أَكْثَرَهُمْ

most of them

aktharahum

يَجْهَلُونَ

(are) ignorant

yajhalūna

١١١

And even if We had sent down to them the angels [with the message] and the dead spoke to them [of it] and We gathered together every [created] thing in front of them, they would not believe unless Allāh should will. But most of them, [of that], are ignorant.

— Saheeh International

وَكَذَٰلِكَ

And thus

wakadhālika

جَعَلْنَا

We made

jaʿalnā

لِكُلِّ

for every

likulli

نَبِىٍّ

Prophet

nabiyyin

عَدُوًّۭا

an enemy

ʿaduwwan

شَيَـٰطِينَ

devils

shayāṭīna

ٱلْإِنسِ

(from) the mankind

l-insi

وَٱلْجِنِّ

and the jinn

wal-jini

يُوحِى

inspiring

yūḥī

بَعْضُهُمْ

some of them

baʿḍuhum

إِلَىٰ

to

ilā

بَعْضٍۢ

others

baʿḍin

زُخْرُفَ

(with) decorative

zukh'rufa

ٱلْقَوْلِ

[the] speech

l-qawli

غُرُورًۭا ۚ

(in) deception

ghurūran

وَلَوْ

But if

walaw

شَآءَ

(had) willed

shāa

رَبُّكَ

your Lord

rabbuka

مَا

not

فَعَلُوهُ ۖ

they (would) have done it

faʿalūhu

فَذَرْهُمْ

so leave them

fadharhum

وَمَا

and what

wamā

يَفْتَرُونَ

they invent

yaftarūna

١١٢

And thus We have made for every prophet an enemy - devils from mankind and jinn, inspiring to one another decorative speech in delusion. But if your Lord had willed, they would not have done it, so leave them and that which they invent.

— Saheeh International

وَلِتَصْغَىٰٓ

And so that incline

walitaṣghā

إِلَيْهِ

to it

ilayhi

أَفْـِٔدَةُ

hearts

afidatu

ٱلَّذِينَ

(of) those who

alladhīna

لَا

(do) not

يُؤْمِنُونَ

believe

yu'minūna

بِٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ

in the Hereafter

bil-ākhirati

وَلِيَرْضَوْهُ

and so that they may be pleased with it

waliyarḍawhu

وَلِيَقْتَرِفُوا۟

and so that they may commit

waliyaqtarifū

مَا

what

هُم

they

hum

مُّقْتَرِفُونَ

(are) committing

muq'tarifūna

١١٣

And [it is] so the hearts of those who disbelieve in the Hereafter will incline toward it [i.e., deceptive speech] and that they will be satisfied with it and that they will commit that which they are committing.

— Saheeh International

أَفَغَيْرَ

Then is (it) other than

afaghayra

ٱللَّهِ

Allah

l-lahi

أَبْتَغِى

I seek

abtaghī

حَكَمًۭا

(as) judge

ḥakaman

وَهُوَ

while He

wahuwa

ٱلَّذِىٓ

(is) the One Who

alladhī

أَنزَلَ

has revealed

anzala

إِلَيْكُمُ

to you

ilaykumu

ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ

the Book

l-kitāba

مُفَصَّلًۭا ۚ

explained in detail

mufaṣṣalan

وَٱلَّذِينَ

And those (to) whom

wa-alladhīna

ءَاتَيْنَـٰهُمُ

We gave them

ātaynāhumu

ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ

the Book

l-kitāba

يَعْلَمُونَ

they know

yaʿlamūna

أَنَّهُۥ

that it

annahu

مُنَزَّلٌۭ

(is) sent down

munazzalun

مِّن

from

min

رَّبِّكَ

your Lord

rabbika

بِٱلْحَقِّ ۖ

in truth

bil-ḥaqi

فَلَا

so (do) not

falā

تَكُونَنَّ

be

takūnanna

مِنَ

among

mina

ٱلْمُمْتَرِينَ

the ones who doubt

l-mum'tarīna

١١٤

[Say], "Then is it other than Allāh I should seek as judge while it is He who has revealed to you the Book [i.e., the Qur’ān] explained in detail?" And those to whom We [previously] gave the Scripture know that it is sent down from your Lord in truth, so never be among the doubters.

— Saheeh International

وَتَمَّتْ

And (has been) fulfilled

watammat

كَلِمَتُ

(the) word

kalimatu

رَبِّكَ

(of) your Lord

rabbika

صِدْقًۭا

(in) truth

ṣid'qan

وَعَدْلًۭا ۚ

and justice

waʿadlan

لَّا

No

مُبَدِّلَ

one can change

mubaddila

لِكَلِمَـٰتِهِۦ ۚ

His words

likalimātihi

وَهُوَ

and He

wahuwa

ٱلسَّمِيعُ

(is) the All-Hearer

l-samīʿu

ٱلْعَلِيمُ

the All-Knower

l-ʿalīmu

١١٥

And the word of your Lord has been fulfilled in truth and in justice. None can alter His words, and He is the Hearing, the Knowing.

— Saheeh International

وَإِن

And if

wa-in

تُطِعْ

you obey

tuṭiʿ

أَكْثَرَ

most

akthara

مَن

of

man

فِى

(those) in

ٱلْأَرْضِ

the earth

l-arḍi

يُضِلُّوكَ

they will mislead you

yuḍillūka

عَن

from

ʿan

سَبِيلِ

(the) way

sabīli

ٱللَّهِ ۚ

(of) Allah

l-lahi

إِن

Not

in

يَتَّبِعُونَ

they follow

yattabiʿūna

إِلَّا

except

illā

ٱلظَّنَّ

[the] assumption

l-ẓana

وَإِنْ

and not

wa-in

هُمْ

they (do)

hum

إِلَّا

except

illā

يَخْرُصُونَ

guess

yakhruṣūna

١١٦

And if you obey most of those upon the earth, they will mislead you from the way of Allāh. They follow not except assumption, and they are not but misjudging.1

— Saheeh International

إِنَّ

Indeed

inna

رَبَّكَ

your Lord

rabbaka

هُوَ

He

huwa

أَعْلَمُ

knows best

aʿlamu

مَن

who

man

يَضِلُّ

strays

yaḍillu

عَن

from

ʿan

سَبِيلِهِۦ ۖ

His way

sabīlihi

وَهُوَ

and He

wahuwa

أَعْلَمُ

(is) most knowing

aʿlamu

بِٱلْمُهْتَدِينَ

of the guided-ones

bil-muh'tadīna

١١٧

Indeed, your Lord is most knowing of who strays from His way, and He is most knowing of the [rightly] guided.

— Saheeh International

فَكُلُوا۟

So eat

fakulū

مِمَّا

of what

mimmā

ذُكِرَ

(is) mentioned

dhukira

ٱسْمُ

(the) name

us'mu

ٱللَّهِ

(of) Allah

l-lahi

عَلَيْهِ

on it

ʿalayhi

إِن

if

in

كُنتُم

you are

kuntum

بِـَٔايَـٰتِهِۦ

in His Verses

biāyātihi

مُؤْمِنِينَ

believers

mu'minīna

١١٨

So eat of that [meat] upon which the name of Allāh has been mentioned,1 if you are believers in His verses [i.e., revealed law].

— Saheeh International

وَمَا

And what

wamā

لَكُمْ

for you

lakum

أَلَّا

that not

allā

تَأْكُلُوا۟

you eat

takulū

مِمَّا

of what

mimmā

ذُكِرَ

has been mentioned

dhukira

ٱسْمُ

(the) name

us'mu

ٱللَّهِ

(of) Allah

l-lahi

عَلَيْهِ

on it

ʿalayhi

وَقَدْ

when indeed

waqad

فَصَّلَ

He (has) explained in detail

faṣṣala

لَكُم

to you

lakum

مَّا

what

حَرَّمَ

He (has) forbidden

ḥarrama

عَلَيْكُمْ

to you

ʿalaykum

إِلَّا

except

illā

مَا

what

ٱضْطُرِرْتُمْ

you are compelled

uḍ'ṭurir'tum

إِلَيْهِ ۗ

to it

ilayhi

وَإِنَّ

And indeed

wa-inna

كَثِيرًۭا

many

kathīran

لَّيُضِلُّونَ

surely lead astray

layuḍillūna

بِأَهْوَآئِهِم

by their (vain) desires

bi-ahwāihim

بِغَيْرِ

without

bighayri

عِلْمٍ ۗ

knowledge

ʿil'min

إِنَّ

Indeed

inna

رَبَّكَ

your Lord

rabbaka

هُوَ

He

huwa

أَعْلَمُ

(is) most knowing

aʿlamu

بِٱلْمُعْتَدِينَ

of the transgressors

bil-muʿ'tadīna

١١٩

And why should you not eat of that upon which the name of Allāh has been mentioned while He has explained in detail to you what He has forbidden you, excepting that to which you are compelled.1 And indeed do many lead [others] astray through their [own] inclinations without knowledge. Indeed, your Lord - He is most knowing of the transgressors.

— Saheeh International

وَذَرُوا۟

Forsake

wadharū

ظَـٰهِرَ

open

ẓāhira

ٱلْإِثْمِ

[the] sins

l-ith'mi

وَبَاطِنَهُۥٓ ۚ

and the secret

wabāṭinahu

إِنَّ

Indeed

inna

ٱلَّذِينَ

those who

alladhīna

يَكْسِبُونَ

earn

yaksibūna

ٱلْإِثْمَ

[the] sin

l-ith'ma

سَيُجْزَوْنَ

they will be recompensed

sayuj'zawna

بِمَا

for what

bimā

كَانُوا۟

they used to

kānū

يَقْتَرِفُونَ

commit

yaqtarifūna

١٢٠

And leave [i.e., desist from] what is apparent of sin and what is concealed thereof. Indeed, those who earn [blame for] sin will be recompensed for that which they used to commit.

— Saheeh International

وَلَا

And (do) not

walā

تَأْكُلُوا۟

eat

takulū

مِمَّا

of that

mimmā

لَمْ

not

lam

يُذْكَرِ

has been mentioned

yudh'kari

ٱسْمُ

(the) name

us'mu

ٱللَّهِ

(of) Allah

l-lahi

عَلَيْهِ

on it

ʿalayhi

وَإِنَّهُۥ

and indeed, it (is)

wa-innahu

لَفِسْقٌۭ ۗ

grave disobedience

lafis'qun

وَإِنَّ

And indeed

wa-inna

ٱلشَّيَـٰطِينَ

the devils

l-shayāṭīna

لَيُوحُونَ

inspire

layūḥūna

إِلَىٰٓ

to

ilā

أَوْلِيَآئِهِمْ

their friends

awliyāihim

لِيُجَـٰدِلُوكُمْ ۖ

so that they dispute with you

liyujādilūkum

وَإِنْ

and if

wa-in

أَطَعْتُمُوهُمْ

you obey them

aṭaʿtumūhum

إِنَّكُمْ

indeed, you

innakum

لَمُشْرِكُونَ

(would) be the polytheists

lamush'rikūna

١٢١

And do not eat of that upon which the name of Allāh has not been mentioned, for indeed, it is grave disobedience. And indeed do the devils inspire their allies [among men] to dispute with you. And if you were to obey them, indeed, you would be associators [of others with Him].1

— Saheeh International

أَوَمَن

Is (one) who

awaman

كَانَ

was

kāna

مَيْتًۭا

dead

maytan

فَأَحْيَيْنَـٰهُ

and We gave him life

fa-aḥyaynāhu

وَجَعَلْنَا

and We made

wajaʿalnā

لَهُۥ

for him

lahu

نُورًۭا

light

nūran

يَمْشِى

he walks

yamshī

بِهِۦ

whereby

bihi

فِى

among

ٱلنَّاسِ

the people

l-nāsi

كَمَن

like (one) who

kaman

مَّثَلُهُۥ

[similar to him]

mathaluhu

فِى

(is) in

ٱلظُّلُمَـٰتِ

the darknesses

l-ẓulumāti

لَيْسَ

not

laysa

بِخَارِجٍۢ

he comes out

bikhārijin

مِّنْهَا ۚ

of it

min'hā

كَذَٰلِكَ

Thus

kadhālika

زُيِّنَ

is made fair-seeming

zuyyina

لِلْكَـٰفِرِينَ

to the disbelievers

lil'kāfirīna

مَا

what

كَانُوا۟

they were

kānū

يَعْمَلُونَ

doing

yaʿmalūna

١٢٢

And is one who was dead and We gave him life and made for him light by which to walk among the people like one who is in darkness, never to emerge therefrom? Thus it has been made pleasing to the disbelievers that which they were doing.

— Saheeh International

وَكَذَٰلِكَ

And thus

wakadhālika

جَعَلْنَا

We placed

jaʿalnā

فِى

in

كُلِّ

every

kulli

قَرْيَةٍ

city

qaryatin

أَكَـٰبِرَ

greatest

akābira

مُجْرِمِيهَا

(of) its criminals

muj'rimīhā

لِيَمْكُرُوا۟

so that they plot

liyamkurū

فِيهَا ۖ

therein

fīhā

وَمَا

And not

wamā

يَمْكُرُونَ

they plot

yamkurūna

إِلَّا

except

illā

بِأَنفُسِهِمْ

against themselves

bi-anfusihim

وَمَا

and not

wamā

يَشْعُرُونَ

they perceive

yashʿurūna

١٢٣

And thus We have placed within every city the greatest of its criminals to conspire therein. But they conspire not except against themselves, and they perceive [it] not.

— Saheeh International

وَإِذَا

And when

wa-idhā

جَآءَتْهُمْ

comes to them

jāathum

ءَايَةٌۭ

a Sign

āyatun

قَالُوا۟

they say

qālū

لَن

Never

lan

نُّؤْمِنَ

we will believe

nu'mina

حَتَّىٰ

until

ḥattā

نُؤْتَىٰ

we are given

nu'tā

مِثْلَ

like

mith'la

مَآ

what

أُوتِىَ

was given

ūtiya

رُسُلُ

(to the) Messengers

rusulu

ٱللَّهِ ۘ

(of) Allah

l-lahi

ٱللَّهُ

Allah

l-lahu

أَعْلَمُ

knows best

aʿlamu

حَيْثُ

where

ḥaythu

يَجْعَلُ

He places

yajʿalu

رِسَالَتَهُۥ ۗ

His Message

risālatahu

سَيُصِيبُ

Will afflict

sayuṣību

ٱلَّذِينَ

those who

alladhīna

أَجْرَمُوا۟

committed crimes

ajramū

صَغَارٌ

a humiliation

ṣaghārun

عِندَ

from

ʿinda

ٱللَّهِ

Allah

l-lahi

وَعَذَابٌۭ

and a punishment

waʿadhābun

شَدِيدٌۢ

severe

shadīdun

بِمَا

for what

bimā

كَانُوا۟

they used to

kānū

يَمْكُرُونَ

plot

yamkurūna

١٢٤

And when a sign comes to them, they say, "Never will we believe until we are given like that which was given to the messengers of Allāh." Allāh is most knowing of where [i.e., with whom] He places His message. There will afflict those who committed crimes debasement before Allāh and severe punishment for what they used to conspire.

— Saheeh International

فَمَن

So whoever

faman

يُرِدِ

wants

yuridi

ٱللَّهُ

Allah

l-lahu

أَن

that

an

يَهْدِيَهُۥ

He guides him

yahdiyahu

يَشْرَحْ

He expands

yashraḥ

صَدْرَهُۥ

his breast

ṣadrahu

لِلْإِسْلَـٰمِ ۖ

to Islam

lil'is'lāmi

وَمَن

and whoever

waman

يُرِدْ

He wants

yurid

أَن

that

an

يُضِلَّهُۥ

He lets him go astray

yuḍillahu

يَجْعَلْ

He makes

yajʿal

صَدْرَهُۥ

his breast

ṣadrahu

ضَيِّقًا

tight

ḍayyiqan

حَرَجًۭا

and constricted

ḥarajan

كَأَنَّمَا

as though

ka-annamā

يَصَّعَّدُ

he (were) climbing

yaṣṣaʿʿadu

فِى

into

ٱلسَّمَآءِ ۚ

the sky

l-samāi

كَذَٰلِكَ

Thus

kadhālika

يَجْعَلُ

places

yajʿalu

ٱللَّهُ

Allah

l-lahu

ٱلرِّجْسَ

the filth

l-rij'sa

عَلَى

on

ʿalā

ٱلَّذِينَ

those who

alladhīna

لَا

(do) not

يُؤْمِنُونَ

believe

yu'minūna

١٢٥

So whoever Allāh wants to guide - He expands his breast to [contain] Islām; and whoever He wants to send astray1 - He makes his breast tight and constricted as though he were climbing into the sky. Thus does Allāh place defilement upon those who do not believe.

— Saheeh International

وَهَـٰذَا

And this

wahādhā

صِرَٰطُ

(is the) way

ṣirāṭu

رَبِّكَ

(of) your Lord

rabbika

مُسْتَقِيمًۭا ۗ

straight

mus'taqīman

قَدْ

Certainly

qad

فَصَّلْنَا

We have detailed

faṣṣalnā

ٱلْـَٔايَـٰتِ

the Verses

l-āyāti

لِقَوْمٍۢ

for a people

liqawmin

يَذَّكَّرُونَ

who take heed

yadhakkarūna

١٢٦

And this is the path of your Lord, [leading] straight. We have detailed the verses for a people who remember.

— Saheeh International

۞ لَهُمْ

For them

lahum

دَارُ

(will be) home

dāru

ٱلسَّلَـٰمِ

(of) [the] peace

l-salāmi

عِندَ

with

ʿinda

رَبِّهِمْ ۖ

their Lord

rabbihim

وَهُوَ

And He

wahuwa

وَلِيُّهُم

(will be) their protecting friend

waliyyuhum

بِمَا

because

bimā

كَانُوا۟

(of what) they used to

kānū

يَعْمَلُونَ

do

yaʿmalūna

١٢٧

For them will be the Home of Peace [i.e., Paradise] with their Lord. And He will be their protecting friend because of what they used to do.

— Saheeh International

وَيَوْمَ

And (the) Day

wayawma

يَحْشُرُهُمْ

He will gather them

yaḥshuruhum

جَمِيعًۭا

all

jamīʿan

يَـٰمَعْشَرَ

(and will say), "O assembly

yāmaʿshara

ٱلْجِنِّ

(of) [the] jinn

l-jini

قَدِ

Certainly

qadi

ٱسْتَكْثَرْتُم

you have (misled) many

is'takthartum

مِّنَ

of

mina

ٱلْإِنسِ ۖ

the mankind

l-insi

وَقَالَ

And will say

waqāla

أَوْلِيَآؤُهُم

their friends

awliyāuhum

مِّنَ

among

mina

ٱلْإِنسِ

the men

l-insi

رَبَّنَا

Our Lord

rabbanā

ٱسْتَمْتَعَ

profited

is'tamtaʿa

بَعْضُنَا

some of us

baʿḍunā

بِبَعْضٍۢ

by others

bibaʿḍin

وَبَلَغْنَآ

and we have reached

wabalaghnā

أَجَلَنَا

our term

ajalanā

ٱلَّذِىٓ

which

alladhī

أَجَّلْتَ

You appointed

ajjalta

لَنَا ۚ

for us

lanā

قَالَ

He will say

qāla

ٱلنَّارُ

The Fire

l-nāru

مَثْوَىٰكُمْ

(is) your abode

mathwākum

خَـٰلِدِينَ

will abide forever

khālidīna

فِيهَآ

in it

fīhā

إِلَّا

except

illā

مَا

(for) what

شَآءَ

wills

shāa

ٱللَّهُ ۗ

Allah

l-lahu

إِنَّ

Indeed

inna

رَبَّكَ

your Lord

rabbaka

حَكِيمٌ

(is) All-Wise

ḥakīmun

عَلِيمٌۭ

All-Knowing

ʿalīmun

١٢٨

And [mention, O Muḥammad], the Day when He will gather them together [and say], "O company of jinn, you have [misled] many of mankind." And their allies among mankind will say, "Our Lord, some of us made use of others, and we have [now] reached our term which You appointed for us." He will say, "The Fire is your residence, wherein you will abide eternally, except for what Allāh wills. Indeed, your Lord is Wise and Knowing."

— Saheeh International

وَكَذَٰلِكَ

And thus

wakadhālika

نُوَلِّى

We make friends

nuwallī

بَعْضَ

some (of)

baʿḍa

ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ

the wrongdoers

l-ẓālimīna

بَعْضًۢا

(to) others

baʿḍan

بِمَا

for what

bimā

كَانُوا۟

they used to

kānū

يَكْسِبُونَ

earn

yaksibūna

١٢٩

And thus will We make some of the wrongdoers allies of others for what they used to earn.1

— Saheeh International

يَـٰمَعْشَرَ

O assembly

yāmaʿshara

ٱلْجِنِّ

(of) [the] jinn

l-jini

وَٱلْإِنسِ

and [the] men

wal-insi

أَلَمْ

Did (there) not

alam

يَأْتِكُمْ

come to you

yatikum

رُسُلٌۭ

Messengers

rusulun

مِّنكُمْ

from (among) you

minkum

يَقُصُّونَ

relating

yaquṣṣūna

عَلَيْكُمْ

to you

ʿalaykum

ءَايَـٰتِى

My Verses

āyātī

وَيُنذِرُونَكُمْ

and warning you

wayundhirūnakum

لِقَآءَ

(of the) meeting

liqāa

يَوْمِكُمْ

(of) your day

yawmikum

هَـٰذَا ۚ

this

hādhā

قَالُوا۟

They will say

qālū

شَهِدْنَا

We bear witness

shahid'nā

عَلَىٰٓ

against

ʿalā

أَنفُسِنَا ۖ

ourselves

anfusinā

وَغَرَّتْهُمُ

And deluded them

wagharrathumu

ٱلْحَيَوٰةُ

the life

l-ḥayatu

ٱلدُّنْيَا

(of) the world

l-dun'yā

وَشَهِدُوا۟

and they will bear witness

washahidū

عَلَىٰٓ

against

ʿalā

أَنفُسِهِمْ

themselves

anfusihim

أَنَّهُمْ

that they

annahum

كَانُوا۟

were

kānū

كَـٰفِرِينَ

disbelievers

kāfirīna

١٣٠

"O company of jinn and mankind,1 did there not come to you messengers from among you, relating to you My verses and warning you of the meeting of this Day of yours?" They will say, "We bear witness against ourselves"; and the worldly life had deluded them, and they will bear witness against themselves that they were disbelievers.

— Saheeh International

ذَٰلِكَ

That (is because)

dhālika

أَن

[that]

an

لَّمْ

not

lam

يَكُن

is

yakun

رَّبُّكَ

your Lord

rabbuka

مُهْلِكَ

one who destroys

muh'lika

ٱلْقُرَىٰ

the cities

l-qurā

بِظُلْمٍۢ

for (their) wrongdoing

biẓul'min

وَأَهْلُهَا

while their people

wa-ahluhā

غَـٰفِلُونَ

(are) unaware

ghāfilūna

١٣١

That is because your Lord would not destroy the cities for wrongdoing1 while their people were unaware.

— Saheeh International

وَلِكُلٍّۢ

And for all

walikullin

دَرَجَـٰتٌۭ

(will be) degrees

darajātun

مِّمَّا

for what

mimmā

عَمِلُوا۟ ۚ

they did

ʿamilū

وَمَا

And not

wamā

رَبُّكَ

(is) your Lord

rabbuka

بِغَـٰفِلٍ

unaware

bighāfilin

عَمَّا

about what

ʿammā

يَعْمَلُونَ

they do

yaʿmalūna

١٣٢

And for all are degrees [i.e., positions resulting] from what they have done. And your Lord is not unaware of what they do.

— Saheeh International

وَرَبُّكَ

And your Lord

warabbuka

ٱلْغَنِىُّ

(is) the Self-Sufficient

l-ghaniyu

ذُو

(the) Possessor

dhū

ٱلرَّحْمَةِ ۚ

(of) mercy

l-raḥmati

إِن

If

in

يَشَأْ

He wills

yasha

يُذْهِبْكُمْ

He can take you away

yudh'hib'kum

وَيَسْتَخْلِفْ

and grant succession

wayastakhlif

مِنۢ

from

min

بَعْدِكُم

after you

baʿdikum

مَّا

(to) whom

يَشَآءُ

He wills

yashāu

كَمَآ

as

kamā

أَنشَأَكُم

He raised you

ansha-akum

مِّن

from

min

ذُرِّيَّةِ

the descendants

dhurriyyati

قَوْمٍ

(of) people

qawmin

ءَاخَرِينَ

other

ākharīna

١٣٣

And your Lord is the Free of need, the possessor of mercy. If He wills, He can do away with you and give succession after you to whomever He wills, just as He produced you from the descendants of another people.

— Saheeh International

إِنَّ

Indeed

inna

مَا

what

تُوعَدُونَ

you are promised

tūʿadūna

لَـَٔاتٍۢ ۖ

(is) sure to come

laātin

وَمَآ

And not

wamā

أَنتُم

(can) you

antum

بِمُعْجِزِينَ

escape (it)

bimuʿ'jizīna

١٣٤

Indeed, what you are promised is coming, and you will not cause failure [to Allāh].1

— Saheeh International

قُلْ

Say

qul

يَـٰقَوْمِ

O my people

yāqawmi

ٱعْمَلُوا۟

Work

iʿ'malū

عَلَىٰ

on

ʿalā

مَكَانَتِكُمْ

your position

makānatikum

إِنِّى

Indeed, I am

innī

عَامِلٌۭ ۖ

a worker

ʿāmilun

فَسَوْفَ

And soon

fasawfa

تَعْلَمُونَ

you will know

taʿlamūna

مَن

who

man

تَكُونُ

will have

takūnu

لَهُۥ

for himself

lahu

عَـٰقِبَةُ

(in) the end

ʿāqibatu

ٱلدَّارِ ۗ

(a good) home

l-dāri

إِنَّهُۥ

Indeed [he]

innahu

لَا

(will) not

يُفْلِحُ

succeed

yuf'liḥu

ٱلظَّـٰلِمُونَ

the wrongdoers

l-ẓālimūna

١٣٥

Say, "O my people, work according to your position; [for] indeed, I am working. And you are going to know who will have succession in the home.1 Indeed, the wrongdoers will not succeed."

— Saheeh International

وَجَعَلُوا۟

And they assign

wajaʿalū

لِلَّهِ

to Allah

lillahi

مِمَّا

out of what

mimmā

ذَرَأَ

He produced

dhara-a

مِنَ

of

mina

ٱلْحَرْثِ

the crops

l-ḥarthi

وَٱلْأَنْعَـٰمِ

and the cattle

wal-anʿāmi

نَصِيبًۭا

a share

naṣīban

فَقَالُوا۟

and they say

faqālū

هَـٰذَا

This

hādhā

لِلَّهِ

(is) for Allah

lillahi

بِزَعْمِهِمْ

by their claim

bizaʿmihim

وَهَـٰذَا

And this

wahādhā

لِشُرَكَآئِنَا ۖ

(is) for our partners

lishurakāinā

فَمَا

But what

famā

كَانَ

is

kāna

لِشُرَكَآئِهِمْ

for their partners

lishurakāihim

فَلَا

(does) not

falā

يَصِلُ

reach

yaṣilu

إِلَى

[to]

ilā

ٱللَّهِ ۖ

Allah

l-lahi

وَمَا

while what

wamā

كَانَ

is

kāna

لِلَّهِ

for Allah

lillahi

فَهُوَ

then it

fahuwa

يَصِلُ

reaches

yaṣilu

إِلَىٰ

[to]

ilā

شُرَكَآئِهِمْ ۗ

their partners

shurakāihim

سَآءَ

Evil

sāa

مَا

(is) what

يَحْكُمُونَ

they judge

yaḥkumūna

١٣٦

And they [i.e., the polytheists] assign to Allāh from that which He created of crops and livestock a share and say, "This is for Allāh," by their claim, "and this is for our 'partners' [associated with Him]." But what is for their "partners" does not reach Allāh, while what is for Allāh - this reaches their "partners." Evil is that which they rule.

— Saheeh International

وَكَذَٰلِكَ

And likewise

wakadhālika

زَيَّنَ

made pleasing

zayyana

لِكَثِيرٍۢ

to many

likathīrin

مِّنَ

of

mina

ٱلْمُشْرِكِينَ

the polytheists

l-mush'rikīna

قَتْلَ

(the) killing

qatla

أَوْلَـٰدِهِمْ

(of) their children

awlādihim

شُرَكَآؤُهُمْ

their partners

shurakāuhum

لِيُرْدُوهُمْ

so that they may ruin them

liyur'dūhum

وَلِيَلْبِسُوا۟

and that they make confusing

waliyalbisū

عَلَيْهِمْ

to them

ʿalayhim

دِينَهُمْ ۖ

their religion

dīnahum

وَلَوْ

And if

walaw

شَآءَ

(had) willed

shāa

ٱللَّهُ

Allah

l-lahu

مَا

not

فَعَلُوهُ ۖ

(would) they have done so

faʿalūhu

فَذَرْهُمْ

So leave them

fadharhum

وَمَا

and what

wamā

يَفْتَرُونَ

they invent

yaftarūna

١٣٧

And likewise, to many of the polytheists their partners1 have made [to seem] pleasing the killing of their children in order to bring about their destruction and to cover them with confusion in their religion. And if Allāh had willed, they would not have done so. So leave them and that which they invent.

— Saheeh International

وَقَالُوا۟

And they say

waqālū

هَـٰذِهِۦٓ

These

hādhihi

أَنْعَـٰمٌۭ

(are) cattle

anʿāmun

وَحَرْثٌ

and crops

waḥarthun

حِجْرٌۭ

forbidden

ḥij'run

لَّا

no (one)

يَطْعَمُهَآ

can eat them

yaṭʿamuhā

إِلَّا

except

illā

مَن

whom

man

نَّشَآءُ

we will

nashāu

بِزَعْمِهِمْ

by their claim

bizaʿmihim

وَأَنْعَـٰمٌ

And cattle

wa-anʿāmun

حُرِّمَتْ

forbidden

ḥurrimat

ظُهُورُهَا

(are) their backs

ẓuhūruhā

وَأَنْعَـٰمٌۭ

and cattle

wa-anʿāmun

لَّا

not

يَذْكُرُونَ

they mention

yadhkurūna

ٱسْمَ

(the) name

is'ma

ٱللَّهِ

(of) Allah

l-lahi

عَلَيْهَا

on it

ʿalayhā

ٱفْتِرَآءً

(as) an invention

if'tirāan

عَلَيْهِ ۚ

against Him

ʿalayhi

سَيَجْزِيهِم

He will recompense them

sayajzīhim

بِمَا

for what

bimā

كَانُوا۟

they used to

kānū

يَفْتَرُونَ

invent

yaftarūna

١٣٨

And they say, "These animals1 and crops are forbidden; no one may eat from them except whom we will," by their claim. And there are those [camels] whose backs are forbidden [by them]2 and those upon which the name of Allāh is not mentioned3 - [all of this] an invention of untruth about Him.4 He will punish them for what they were inventing.

— Saheeh International

وَقَالُوا۟

And they say

waqālū

مَا

What

فِى

(is) in

بُطُونِ

(the) wombs

buṭūni

هَـٰذِهِ

(of) these

hādhihi

ٱلْأَنْعَـٰمِ

cattle

l-anʿāmi

خَالِصَةٌۭ

(is) exclusively

khāliṣatun

لِّذُكُورِنَا

for our males

lidhukūrinā

وَمُحَرَّمٌ

and forbidden

wamuḥarramun

عَلَىٰٓ

on

ʿalā

أَزْوَٰجِنَا ۖ

our spouses

azwājinā

وَإِن

But if

wa-in

يَكُن

is

yakun

مَّيْتَةًۭ

(born) dead

maytatan

فَهُمْ

then they (all)

fahum

فِيهِ

in it

fīhi

شُرَكَآءُ ۚ

(are) partners

shurakāu

سَيَجْزِيهِمْ

He will recompense them

sayajzīhim

وَصْفَهُمْ ۚ

(for) their attribution

waṣfahum

إِنَّهُۥ

Indeed, He

innahu

حَكِيمٌ

(is) All-Wise

ḥakīmun

عَلِيمٌۭ

All-Knowing

ʿalīmun

١٣٩

And they say, "What is in the bellies of these animals1 is exclusively for our males and forbidden to our females. But if it is [born] dead, then all of them have shares therein." He will punish them for their description.2 Indeed, He is Wise and Knowing.

— Saheeh International

قَدْ

Certainly

qad

خَسِرَ

(are) lost

khasira

ٱلَّذِينَ

those who

alladhīna

قَتَلُوٓا۟

killed

qatalū

أَوْلَـٰدَهُمْ

their children

awlādahum

سَفَهًۢا

(in) foolishness

safahan

بِغَيْرِ

without

bighayri

عِلْمٍۢ

knowledge

ʿil'min

وَحَرَّمُوا۟

and forbid

waḥarramū

مَا

what

رَزَقَهُمُ

(bas been) provided (to) them

razaqahumu

ٱللَّهُ

(by) Allah

l-lahu

ٱفْتِرَآءً

inventing (lies)

if'tirāan

عَلَى

against

ʿalā

ٱللَّهِ ۚ

Allah

l-lahi

قَدْ

Certainly

qad

ضَلُّوا۟

they have gone astray

ḍallū

وَمَا

and not

wamā

كَانُوا۟

they are

kānū

مُهْتَدِينَ

guided-ones

muh'tadīna

١٤٠

They will have lost who killed their children in foolishness without knowledge and prohibited what Allāh had provided for them, inventing untruth about Allāh. They have gone astray and were not [rightly] guided.

— Saheeh International

۞ وَهُوَ

And He

wahuwa

ٱلَّذِىٓ

(is) the One Who

alladhī

أَنشَأَ

produced

ansha-a

جَنَّـٰتٍۢ

gardens

jannātin

مَّعْرُوشَـٰتٍۢ

trellised

maʿrūshātin

وَغَيْرَ

and other than

waghayra

مَعْرُوشَـٰتٍۢ

trellised

maʿrūshātin

وَٱلنَّخْلَ

and the date-palm

wal-nakhla

وَٱلزَّرْعَ

and the crops

wal-zarʿa

مُخْتَلِفًا

diverse

mukh'talifan

أُكُلُهُۥ

(are) its taste

ukuluhu

وَٱلزَّيْتُونَ

and the olives

wal-zaytūna

وَٱلرُّمَّانَ

and the pomegranates

wal-rumāna

مُتَشَـٰبِهًۭا

similar

mutashābihan

وَغَيْرَ

and other than

waghayra

مُتَشَـٰبِهٍۢ ۚ

similar

mutashābihin

كُلُوا۟

Eat

kulū

مِن

of

min

ثَمَرِهِۦٓ

its fruit

thamarihi

إِذَآ

when

idhā

أَثْمَرَ

it bears fruit

athmara

وَءَاتُوا۟

and give

waātū

حَقَّهُۥ

its due

ḥaqqahu

يَوْمَ

(on the) day

yawma

حَصَادِهِۦ ۖ

(of) its harvest

ḥaṣādihi

وَلَا

And (do) not

walā

تُسْرِفُوٓا۟ ۚ

(be) extravagant

tus'rifū

إِنَّهُۥ

Indeed, He

innahu

لَا

(does) not

يُحِبُّ

love

yuḥibbu

ٱلْمُسْرِفِينَ

the ones who are extravagant

l-mus'rifīna

١٤١

And He it is who causes gardens to grow, [both] trellised and untrellised, and palm trees and crops of different [kinds of] food and olives and pomegranates, similar and dissimilar. Eat of [each of] its fruit when it yields and give its due [zakāh] on the day of its harvest. And be not excessive.1 Indeed, He does not like those who commit excess.

— Saheeh International

وَمِنَ

And of

wamina

ٱلْأَنْعَـٰمِ

the cattle

l-anʿāmi

حَمُولَةًۭ

(are some for) burden

ḥamūlatan

وَفَرْشًۭا ۚ

and (some for) meat

wafarshan

كُلُوا۟

Eat

kulū

مِمَّا

of what

mimmā

رَزَقَكُمُ

(has been) provided (to) you

razaqakumu

ٱللَّهُ

(by) Allah

l-lahu

وَلَا

and (do) not

walā

تَتَّبِعُوا۟

follow

tattabiʿū

خُطُوَٰتِ

(the) footsteps

khuṭuwāti

ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنِ ۚ

(of) Shaitaan

l-shayṭāni

إِنَّهُۥ

Indeed, he

innahu

لَكُمْ

(is) to you

lakum

عَدُوٌّۭ

an enemy

ʿaduwwun

مُّبِينٌۭ

open

mubīnun

١٤٢

And of the grazing livestock are carriers [of burdens] and those [too] small. Eat of what Allāh has provided for you and do not follow the footsteps of Satan.1 Indeed, he is to you a clear enemy.

— Saheeh International

ثَمَـٰنِيَةَ

Eight

thamāniyata

أَزْوَٰجٍۢ ۖ

pairs

azwājin

مِّنَ

of

mina

ٱلضَّأْنِ

the sheep

l-ḍani

ٱثْنَيْنِ

two

ith'nayni

وَمِنَ

and of

wamina

ٱلْمَعْزِ

the goats

l-maʿzi

ٱثْنَيْنِ ۗ

two

ith'nayni

قُلْ

Say

qul

ءَآلذَّكَرَيْنِ

(Are) the two males

āldhakarayni

حَرَّمَ

He has forbidden

ḥarrama

أَمِ

or

ami

ٱلْأُنثَيَيْنِ

the two females

l-unthayayni

أَمَّا

or what

ammā

ٱشْتَمَلَتْ

contains

ish'tamalat

عَلَيْهِ

[in it]

ʿalayhi

أَرْحَامُ

(the) wombs

arḥāmu

ٱلْأُنثَيَيْنِ ۖ

(of) the two females

l-unthayayni

نَبِّـُٔونِى

Inform me

nabbiūnī

بِعِلْمٍ

with knowledge

biʿil'min

إِن

if

in

كُنتُمْ

you are

kuntum

صَـٰدِقِينَ

truthful

ṣādiqīna

١٤٣

[They are] eight mates - of the sheep, two and of the goats, two. Say, "Is it the two males He has forbidden or the two females or that which the wombs of the two females contain? Inform me with knowledge, if you should be truthful."

— Saheeh International

وَمِنَ

And of

wamina

ٱلْإِبِلِ

the camels

l-ibili

ٱثْنَيْنِ

two

ith'nayni

وَمِنَ

and of

wamina

ٱلْبَقَرِ

the cows

l-baqari

ٱثْنَيْنِ ۗ

two

ith'nayni

قُلْ

Say

qul

ءَآلذَّكَرَيْنِ

(Is it) the two males

āldhakarayni

حَرَّمَ

He (has) forbidden

ḥarrama

أَمِ

or

ami

ٱلْأُنثَيَيْنِ

the two females

l-unthayayni

أَمَّا

or what

ammā

ٱشْتَمَلَتْ

contains

ish'tamalat

عَلَيْهِ

[in it]

ʿalayhi

أَرْحَامُ

(the) wombs

arḥāmu

ٱلْأُنثَيَيْنِ ۖ

(of) the two females

l-unthayayni

أَمْ

Or

am

كُنتُمْ

were you

kuntum

شُهَدَآءَ

witnesses

shuhadāa

إِذْ

when

idh

وَصَّىٰكُمُ

enjoined you

waṣṣākumu

ٱللَّهُ

Allah

l-lahu

بِهَـٰذَا ۚ

with this

bihādhā

فَمَنْ

Then who

faman

أَظْلَمُ

(is) more unjust

aẓlamu

مِمَّنِ

than (one) who

mimmani

ٱفْتَرَىٰ

invents

if'tarā

عَلَى

against

ʿalā

ٱللَّهِ

Allah

l-lahi

كَذِبًۭا

a lie

kadhiban

لِّيُضِلَّ

to mislead

liyuḍilla

ٱلنَّاسَ

the people

l-nāsa

بِغَيْرِ

without

bighayri

عِلْمٍ ۗ

knowledge

ʿil'min

إِنَّ

Indeed

inna

ٱللَّهَ

Allah

l-laha

لَا

(does) not

يَهْدِى

guide

yahdī

ٱلْقَوْمَ

the people

l-qawma

ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ

the wrongdoing

l-ẓālimīna

١٤٤

And of the camels, two and of the cattle, two. Say, "Is it the two males He has forbidden or the two females or that which the wombs of the two females contain? Or were you witnesses when Allāh charged you with this? Then who is more unjust than one who invents a lie about Allāh to mislead the people by [something] other than knowledge? Indeed, Allāh does not guide the wrongdoing people."

— Saheeh International

قُل

Say

qul

لَّآ

Not

أَجِدُ

(do) I find

ajidu

فِى

in

مَآ

what

أُوحِىَ

has been revealed

ūḥiya

إِلَىَّ

to me

ilayya

مُحَرَّمًا

(anything) forbidden

muḥarraman

عَلَىٰ

to

ʿalā

طَاعِمٍۢ

an eater

ṭāʿimin

يَطْعَمُهُۥٓ

who eats it

yaṭʿamuhu

إِلَّآ

except

illā

أَن

that

an

يَكُونَ

it be

yakūna

مَيْتَةً

dead

maytatan

أَوْ

or

aw

دَمًۭا

blood

daman

مَّسْفُوحًا

poured forth

masfūḥan

أَوْ

or

aw

لَحْمَ

(the) flesh

laḥma

خِنزِيرٍۢ

(of) swine

khinzīrin

فَإِنَّهُۥ

for indeed, it

fa-innahu

رِجْسٌ

(is) filth

rij'sun

أَوْ

or

aw

فِسْقًا

(it be) disobedience

fis'qan

أُهِلَّ

[is] dedicated

uhilla

لِغَيْرِ

to other than

lighayri

ٱللَّهِ

Allah

l-lahi

بِهِۦ ۚ

[on it]

bihi

فَمَنِ

But whoever

famani

ٱضْطُرَّ

(is) compelled

uḍ'ṭurra

غَيْرَ

not

ghayra

بَاغٍۢ

desiring

bāghin

وَلَا

and not

walā

عَادٍۢ

transgressing

ʿādin

فَإِنَّ

then indeed

fa-inna

رَبَّكَ

your Lord

rabbaka

غَفُورٌۭ

(is) Oft-Forgiving

ghafūrun

رَّحِيمٌۭ

Most Merciful

raḥīmun

١٤٥

Say, "I do not find within that which was revealed to me [anything] forbidden to one who would eat it unless it be a dead animal or blood spilled out or the flesh of swine - for indeed, it is impure - or it be [that slaughtered in] disobedience, dedicated to other than Allāh.1 But whoever is forced [by necessity], neither desiring [it] nor transgressing [its limit], then indeed, your Lord is Forgiving and Merciful."

— Saheeh International

وَعَلَى

And to

waʿalā

ٱلَّذِينَ

those who

alladhīna

هَادُوا۟

are Jews

hādū

حَرَّمْنَا

We forbade

ḥarramnā

كُلَّ

every

kulla

ذِى

(animal) with

dhī

ظُفُرٍۢ ۖ

claws

ẓufurin

وَمِنَ

and of

wamina

ٱلْبَقَرِ

the cows

l-baqari

وَٱلْغَنَمِ

and the sheep

wal-ghanami

حَرَّمْنَا

We forbade

ḥarramnā

عَلَيْهِمْ

to them

ʿalayhim

شُحُومَهُمَآ

their fat

shuḥūmahumā

إِلَّا

except

illā

مَا

what

حَمَلَتْ

carried

ḥamalat

ظُهُورُهُمَآ

their backs

ẓuhūruhumā

أَوِ

or

awi

ٱلْحَوَايَآ

the entrails

l-ḥawāyā

أَوْ

or

aw

مَا

what

ٱخْتَلَطَ

(is) joined

ikh'talaṭa

بِعَظْمٍۢ ۚ

with the bone

biʿaẓmin

ذَٰلِكَ

That

dhālika

جَزَيْنَـٰهُم

(is) their recompense

jazaynāhum

بِبَغْيِهِمْ ۖ

for their rebellion

bibaghyihim

وَإِنَّا

And indeed, We

wa-innā

لَصَـٰدِقُونَ

[surely] are truthful

laṣādiqūna

١٤٦

And to those who are Jews We prohibited every animal of uncloven hoof; and of the cattle and the sheep We prohibited to them their fat, except what adheres to their backs or the entrails or what is joined with bone. [By] that We repaid them for their transgression. And indeed, We are truthful.

— Saheeh International

فَإِن

But if

fa-in

كَذَّبُوكَ

they deny you

kadhabūka

فَقُل

then say

faqul

رَّبُّكُمْ

Your Lord

rabbukum

ذُو

(is the) Possessor

dhū

رَحْمَةٍۢ

(of) Mercy

raḥmatin

وَٰسِعَةٍۢ

Vast

wāsiʿatin

وَلَا

but not

walā

يُرَدُّ

will be turned back

yuraddu

بَأْسُهُۥ

His wrath

basuhu

عَنِ

from

ʿani

ٱلْقَوْمِ

the people

l-qawmi

ٱلْمُجْرِمِينَ

(who are) criminals

l-muj'rimīna

١٤٧

So if they deny you, [O Muḥammad], say, "Your Lord is the possessor of vast mercy; but His punishment cannot be repelled from the people who are criminals."

— Saheeh International

سَيَقُولُ

Will say

sayaqūlu

ٱلَّذِينَ

those who

alladhīna

أَشْرَكُوا۟

associate partners (with Allah)

ashrakū

لَوْ

If

law

شَآءَ

Had willed

shāa

ٱللَّهُ

Allah

l-lahu

مَآ

not

أَشْرَكْنَا

we (would) have associated partners (with Allah)

ashraknā

وَلَآ

and not

walā

ءَابَآؤُنَا

our forefathers

ābāunā

وَلَا

and not

walā

حَرَّمْنَا

we (would) have forbidden

ḥarramnā

مِن

[of]

min

شَىْءٍۢ ۚ

anything

shayin

كَذَٰلِكَ

Likewise

kadhālika

كَذَّبَ

denied

kadhaba

ٱلَّذِينَ

those who

alladhīna

مِن

(were from)

min

قَبْلِهِمْ

before them

qablihim

حَتَّىٰ

until

ḥattā

ذَاقُوا۟

they tasted

dhāqū

بَأْسَنَا ۗ

Our wrath

basanā

قُلْ

Say

qul

هَلْ

Is

hal

عِندَكُم

with you

ʿindakum

مِّنْ

[of]

min

عِلْمٍۢ

any knowledge

ʿil'min

فَتُخْرِجُوهُ

then produce it

fatukh'rijūhu

لَنَآ ۖ

for us

lanā

إِن

Not

in

تَتَّبِعُونَ

you follow

tattabiʿūna

إِلَّا

except

illā

ٱلظَّنَّ

the assumption

l-ẓana

وَإِنْ

and not

wa-in

أَنتُمْ

you (do)

antum

إِلَّا

but

illā

تَخْرُصُونَ

guess

takhruṣūna

١٤٨

Those who associated [others] with Allāh will say, "If Allāh had willed, we would not have associated [anything] and neither would our fathers, nor would we have prohibited anything." Likewise did those before deny until they tasted Our punishment. Say, "Do you have any knowledge that you can produce for us? You follow not except assumption, and you are not but misjudging."

— Saheeh International

قُلْ

Say

qul

فَلِلَّهِ

With Allah

falillahi

ٱلْحُجَّةُ

(is) the argument

l-ḥujatu

ٱلْبَـٰلِغَةُ ۖ

the conclusive

l-bālighatu

فَلَوْ

And if

falaw

شَآءَ

He (had) willed

shāa

لَهَدَىٰكُمْ

surely He (would) have guided you

lahadākum

أَجْمَعِينَ

all

ajmaʿīna

١٤٩

Say, "With Allāh is the far-reaching [i.e., conclusive] argument. If He had willed, He would have guided you all."

— Saheeh International

قُلْ

Say

qul

هَلُمَّ

Bring forward

halumma

شُهَدَآءَكُمُ

your witnesses

shuhadāakumu

ٱلَّذِينَ

those who

alladhīna

يَشْهَدُونَ

testify

yashhadūna

أَنَّ

that

anna

ٱللَّهَ

Allah

l-laha

حَرَّمَ

prohibited

ḥarrama

هَـٰذَا ۖ

this

hādhā

فَإِن

Then if

fa-in

شَهِدُوا۟

they testify

shahidū

فَلَا

then (do) not

falā

تَشْهَدْ

testify

tashhad

مَعَهُمْ ۚ

with them

maʿahum

وَلَا

And (do) not

walā

تَتَّبِعْ

follow

tattabiʿ

أَهْوَآءَ

(the) desires

ahwāa

ٱلَّذِينَ

(of) those who

alladhīna

كَذَّبُوا۟

denied

kadhabū

بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَا

Our Signs

biāyātinā

وَٱلَّذِينَ

and those who

wa-alladhīna

لَا

(do) not

يُؤْمِنُونَ

believe

yu'minūna

بِٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ

in the Hereafter

bil-ākhirati

وَهُم

while they

wahum

بِرَبِّهِمْ

with their Lord

birabbihim

يَعْدِلُونَ

set up equals

yaʿdilūna

١٥٠

Say, [O Muḥammad], "Bring forward your witnesses who will testify that Allāh has prohibited this." And if they testify, do not testify with them. And do not follow the desires of those who deny Our verses and those who do not believe in the Hereafter, while they equate [others] with their Lord.

— Saheeh International

۞ قُلْ

Say

qul

تَعَالَوْا۟

Come

taʿālaw

أَتْلُ

I will recite

atlu

مَا

what

حَرَّمَ

has prohibited

ḥarrama

رَبُّكُمْ

your Lord

rabbukum

عَلَيْكُمْ ۖ

to you

ʿalaykum

أَلَّا

That (do) not

allā

تُشْرِكُوا۟

associate

tush'rikū

بِهِۦ

with Him

bihi

شَيْـًۭٔا ۖ

anything

shayan

وَبِٱلْوَٰلِدَيْنِ

and with the parents

wabil-wālidayni

إِحْسَـٰنًۭا ۖ

(be) good

iḥ'sānan

وَلَا

and (do) not

walā

تَقْتُلُوٓا۟

kill

taqtulū

أَوْلَـٰدَكُم

your children

awlādakum

مِّنْ

(out) of

min

إِمْلَـٰقٍۢ ۖ

poverty

im'lāqin

نَّحْنُ

We

naḥnu

نَرْزُقُكُمْ

provide for you

narzuqukum

وَإِيَّاهُمْ ۖ

and for them

wa-iyyāhum

وَلَا

And (do) not

walā

تَقْرَبُوا۟

go near

taqrabū

ٱلْفَوَٰحِشَ

[the] immoralities

l-fawāḥisha

مَا

what

ظَهَرَ

(is) apparent

ẓahara

مِنْهَا

of them

min'hā

وَمَا

and what

wamā

بَطَنَ ۖ

(is) concealed

baṭana

وَلَا

And (do) not

walā

تَقْتُلُوا۟

kill

taqtulū

ٱلنَّفْسَ

the soul

l-nafsa

ٱلَّتِى

which

allatī

حَرَّمَ

has (been) forbidden

ḥarrama

ٱللَّهُ

(by) Allah

l-lahu

إِلَّا

except

illā

بِٱلْحَقِّ ۚ

bil-ḥaqi

ذَٰلِكُمْ

That

dhālikum

وَصَّىٰكُم

(He) has enjoined on you

waṣṣākum

بِهِۦ

with it

bihi

لَعَلَّكُمْ

so that you may

laʿallakum

تَعْقِلُونَ

use reason

taʿqilūna

١٥١

Say, "Come, I will recite what your Lord has prohibited to you. [He commands] that you not associate anything with Him, and to parents, good treatment, and do not kill your children out of poverty; We will provide for you and them. And do not approach immoralities - what is apparent of them and what is concealed. And do not kill the soul which Allāh has forbidden [to be killed] except by [legal] right. This has He instructed you that you may use reason."

— Saheeh International

وَلَا

And (do) not

walā

تَقْرَبُوا۟

go near

taqrabū

مَالَ

wealth

māla

ٱلْيَتِيمِ

(of) the orphans

l-yatīmi

إِلَّا

except

illā

بِٱلَّتِى

with that

bi-allatī

هِىَ

which

hiya

أَحْسَنُ

(is) best

aḥsanu

حَتَّىٰ

until

ḥattā

يَبْلُغَ

he reaches

yablugha

أَشُدَّهُۥ ۖ

his maturity

ashuddahu

وَأَوْفُوا۟

And give full

wa-awfū

ٱلْكَيْلَ

[the] measure

l-kayla

وَٱلْمِيزَانَ

and the weight

wal-mīzāna

بِٱلْقِسْطِ ۖ

with justice

bil-qis'ṭi

لَا

Not

نُكَلِّفُ

We burden

nukallifu

نَفْسًا

any soul

nafsan

إِلَّا

except

illā

وُسْعَهَا ۖ

(to) its capacity

wus'ʿahā

وَإِذَا

And when

wa-idhā

قُلْتُمْ

you speak

qul'tum

فَٱعْدِلُوا۟

then be just

fa-iʿ'dilū

وَلَوْ

even if

walaw

كَانَ

he is

kāna

ذَا

(one of)

dhā

قُرْبَىٰ ۖ

a near relative

qur'bā

وَبِعَهْدِ

And (the) Covenant

wabiʿahdi

ٱللَّهِ

(of) Allah

l-lahi

أَوْفُوا۟ ۚ

fulfil

awfū

ذَٰلِكُمْ

That

dhālikum

وَصَّىٰكُم

(He) has enjoined on you

waṣṣākum

بِهِۦ

with it

bihi

لَعَلَّكُمْ

so that you may

laʿallakum

تَذَكَّرُونَ

remember

tadhakkarūna

١٥٢

And do not approach the orphan's property except in a way that is best [i.e., intending improvement] until he reaches maturity. And give full measure and weight in justice. We do not charge any soul except [with that within] its capacity. And when you speak [i.e., testify], be just, even if [it concerns] a near relative. And the covenant of Allāh fulfill. This has He instructed you that you may remember.

— Saheeh International

وَأَنَّ

And that

wa-anna

هَـٰذَا

this

hādhā

صِرَٰطِى

(is) My path

ṣirāṭī

مُسْتَقِيمًۭا

straight

mus'taqīman

فَٱتَّبِعُوهُ ۖ

so follow it

fa-ittabiʿūhu

وَلَا

And (do) not

walā

تَتَّبِعُوا۟

follow

tattabiʿū

ٱلسُّبُلَ

the (other) paths

l-subula

فَتَفَرَّقَ

then they will separate

fatafarraqa

بِكُمْ

you

bikum

عَن

from

ʿan

سَبِيلِهِۦ ۚ

His path

sabīlihi

ذَٰلِكُمْ

That

dhālikum

وَصَّىٰكُم

(He) has enjoined on you

waṣṣākum

بِهِۦ

[with it]

bihi

لَعَلَّكُمْ

so that you may

laʿallakum

تَتَّقُونَ

become righteous

tattaqūna

١٥٣

And, [moreover], this is My path, which is straight, so follow it; and do not follow [other] ways, for you will be separated from His way. This has He instructed you that you may become righteous.

— Saheeh International

ثُمَّ

Moreover

thumma

ءَاتَيْنَا

We gave

ātaynā

مُوسَى

Musa

mūsā

ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ

the Book

l-kitāba

تَمَامًا

completing (Our Favor)

tamāman

عَلَى

on

ʿalā

ٱلَّذِىٓ

the one who

alladhī

أَحْسَنَ

did good

aḥsana

وَتَفْصِيلًۭا

and an explanation

watafṣīlan

لِّكُلِّ

of every

likulli

شَىْءٍۢ

thing

shayin

وَهُدًۭى

and a guidance

wahudan

وَرَحْمَةًۭ

and mercy

waraḥmatan

لَّعَلَّهُم

so that they may

laʿallahum

بِلِقَآءِ

in (the) meeting

biliqāi

رَبِّهِمْ

(with) their Lord

rabbihim

يُؤْمِنُونَ

believe

yu'minūna

١٥٤

Then1 We gave Moses the Scripture, making complete [Our favor] upon the one who did good [i.e., Moses] and as a detailed explanation of all things and as guidance and mercy that perhaps in the meeting with their Lord they would believe.

— Saheeh International

وَهَـٰذَا

And this

wahādhā

كِتَـٰبٌ

(is) a Book

kitābun

أَنزَلْنَـٰهُ

We have revealed it

anzalnāhu

مُبَارَكٌۭ

blessed

mubārakun

فَٱتَّبِعُوهُ

so follow it

fa-ittabiʿūhu

وَٱتَّقُوا۟

and fear (Allah)

wa-ittaqū

لَعَلَّكُمْ

so that you may

laʿallakum

تُرْحَمُونَ

receive mercy

tur'ḥamūna

١٥٥

And this [Qur’ān] is a Book We have revealed [which is] blessed, so follow it and fear Allāh that you may receive mercy.

— Saheeh International

أَن

Lest

an

تَقُولُوٓا۟

you say

taqūlū

إِنَّمَآ

Only

innamā

أُنزِلَ

was revealed

unzila

ٱلْكِتَـٰبُ

the Book

l-kitābu

عَلَىٰ

on

ʿalā

طَآئِفَتَيْنِ

the two groups

ṭāifatayni

مِن

from

min

قَبْلِنَا

before us

qablinā

وَإِن

and indeed

wa-in

كُنَّا

we were

kunnā

عَن

about

ʿan

دِرَاسَتِهِمْ

their study

dirāsatihim

لَغَـٰفِلِينَ

certainly unaware

laghāfilīna

١٥٦

[We revealed it] lest you say, "The Scripture was only sent down to two groups before us, but we were of their study unaware,"

— Saheeh International

أَوْ

Or

aw

تَقُولُوا۟

you say

taqūlū

لَوْ

If

law

أَنَّآ

[that]

annā

أُنزِلَ

was revealed

unzila

عَلَيْنَا

to us

ʿalaynā

ٱلْكِتَـٰبُ

the Book

l-kitābu

لَكُنَّآ

surely we (would) have been

lakunnā

أَهْدَىٰ

better guided

ahdā

مِنْهُمْ ۚ

than them

min'hum

فَقَدْ

So verily

faqad

جَآءَكُم

has come to you

jāakum

بَيِّنَةٌۭ

clear proofs

bayyinatun

مِّن

from

min

رَّبِّكُمْ

your Lord

rabbikum

وَهُدًۭى

and a Guidance

wahudan

وَرَحْمَةٌۭ ۚ

and a Mercy

waraḥmatun

فَمَنْ

Then who

faman

أَظْلَمُ

(is) more unjust

aẓlamu

مِمَّن

than (he) who

mimman

كَذَّبَ

denies

kadhaba

بِـَٔايَـٰتِ

[with] (the) Verses

biāyāti

ٱللَّهِ

(of) Allah

l-lahi

وَصَدَفَ

and turns away

waṣadafa

عَنْهَا ۗ

from them

ʿanhā

سَنَجْزِى

We will recompense

sanajzī

ٱلَّذِينَ

those who

alladhīna

يَصْدِفُونَ

turn away

yaṣdifūna

عَنْ

from

ʿan

ءَايَـٰتِنَا

Our Signs

āyātinā

سُوٓءَ

(with) an evil

sūa

ٱلْعَذَابِ

punishment

l-ʿadhābi

بِمَا

because

bimā

كَانُوا۟

they used to

kānū

يَصْدِفُونَ

turn away

yaṣdifūna

١٥٧

Or lest you say, "If only the Scripture had been revealed to us, we would have been better guided than they." So there has [now] come to you a clear evidence from your Lord and a guidance and mercy. Then who is more unjust than one who denies the verses of Allāh and turns away from them? We will recompense those who turn away from Our verses with the worst of punishment for their having turned away.

— Saheeh International

هَلْ

Are

hal

يَنظُرُونَ

they waiting

yanẓurūna

إِلَّآ

except

illā

أَن

that

an

تَأْتِيَهُمُ

comes to them

tatiyahumu

ٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةُ

the Angels

l-malāikatu

أَوْ

or

aw

يَأْتِىَ

comes

yatiya

رَبُّكَ

your Lord

rabbuka

أَوْ

or

aw

يَأْتِىَ

comes

yatiya

بَعْضُ

some (of)

baʿḍu

ءَايَـٰتِ

(the) Signs

āyāti

رَبِّكَ ۗ

(of) your Lord

rabbika

يَوْمَ

(The) Day

yawma

يَأْتِى

(when) comes

yatī

بَعْضُ

some (of)

baʿḍu

ءَايَـٰتِ

(the) Signs

āyāti

رَبِّكَ

(of) your Lord

rabbika

لَا

not

يَنفَعُ

will benefit

yanfaʿu

نَفْسًا

a soul

nafsan

إِيمَـٰنُهَا

its faith

īmānuhā

لَمْ

not

lam

تَكُنْ

(if) it had

takun

ءَامَنَتْ

believed

āmanat

مِن

from

min

قَبْلُ

before

qablu

أَوْ

or

aw

كَسَبَتْ

earned

kasabat

فِىٓ

through

إِيمَـٰنِهَا

its faith

īmānihā

خَيْرًۭا ۗ

any good

khayran

قُلِ

Say

quli

ٱنتَظِرُوٓا۟

Wait

intaẓirū

إِنَّا

Indeed, we

innā

مُنتَظِرُونَ

(are) those who wait

muntaẓirūna

١٥٨

Do they [then] wait for anything except that the angels should come to them or your Lord should come or that there come some of the signs1 of your Lord? The Day that some of the signs of your Lord will come no soul will benefit from its faith as long as it had not believed before or had earned through its faith some good. Say, "Wait. Indeed, we [also] are waiting."

— Saheeh International

إِنَّ

Indeed

inna

ٱلَّذِينَ

those who

alladhīna

فَرَّقُوا۟

divide

farraqū

دِينَهُمْ

their religion

dīnahum

وَكَانُوا۟

and become

wakānū

شِيَعًۭا

sects

shiyaʿan

لَّسْتَ

you are not

lasta

مِنْهُمْ

with them

min'hum

فِى

in

شَىْءٍ ۚ

anything

shayin

إِنَّمَآ

Only

innamā

أَمْرُهُمْ

their affair

amruhum

إِلَى

(is) with

ilā

ٱللَّهِ

Allah

l-lahi

ثُمَّ

then

thumma

يُنَبِّئُهُم

He will inform them

yunabbi-uhum

بِمَا

of what

bimā

كَانُوا۟

they used to

kānū

يَفْعَلُونَ

do

yafʿalūna

١٥٩

Indeed, those who have divided their religion and become sects - you, [O Muḥammad], are not [associated] with them in anything. Their affair is only [left] to Allāh; then He will inform them about what they used to do.

— Saheeh International

مَن

Whoever

man

جَآءَ

came

jāa

بِٱلْحَسَنَةِ

with a good deed

bil-ḥasanati

فَلَهُۥ

then for him

falahu

عَشْرُ

(is) ten (times)

ʿashru

أَمْثَالِهَا ۖ

the like of it

amthālihā

وَمَن

And whoever

waman

جَآءَ

came

jāa

بِٱلسَّيِّئَةِ

with an evil deed

bil-sayi-ati

فَلَا

then not

falā

يُجْزَىٰٓ

he will be recompensed

yuj'zā

إِلَّا

except

illā

مِثْلَهَا

the like of it

mith'lahā

وَهُمْ

and they

wahum

لَا

will not

يُظْلَمُونَ

(be) wronged

yuẓ'lamūna

١٦٠

Whoever comes [on the Day of Judgement] with a good deed will have ten times the like thereof [to his credit], and whoever comes with an evil deed will not be recompensed except the like thereof; and they will not be wronged.1

— Saheeh International

قُلْ

Say

qul

إِنَّنِى

Indeed (as for) me

innanī

هَدَىٰنِى

has guided me

hadānī

رَبِّىٓ

my Lord

rabbī

إِلَىٰ

to

ilā

صِرَٰطٍۢ

a path

ṣirāṭin

مُّسْتَقِيمٍۢ

straight

mus'taqīmin

دِينًۭا

a religion

dīnan

قِيَمًۭا

right

qiyaman

مِّلَّةَ

religion

millata

إِبْرَٰهِيمَ

(of) Ibrahim

ib'rāhīma

حَنِيفًۭا ۚ

a true monotheist

ḥanīfan

وَمَا

And not

wamā

كَانَ

he was

kāna

مِنَ

from

mina

ٱلْمُشْرِكِينَ

the polytheists

l-mush'rikīna

١٦١

Say, "Indeed, my Lord has guided me to a straight path - a correct religion - the way of Abraham, inclining toward truth. And he was not among those who associated others with Allāh."

— Saheeh International

قُلْ

Say

qul

إِنَّ

Indeed

inna

صَلَاتِى

my prayer

ṣalātī

وَنُسُكِى

and my rites of sacrifice

wanusukī

وَمَحْيَاىَ

and my living

wamaḥyāya

وَمَمَاتِى

and my dying

wamamātī

لِلَّهِ

(are) for Allah

lillahi

رَبِّ

Lord

rabbi

ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ

(of) the worlds

l-ʿālamīna

١٦٢

Say, "Indeed, my prayer, my rites of sacrifice, my living and my dying are for Allāh, Lord of the worlds.

— Saheeh International

لَا

No

شَرِيكَ

partners

sharīka

لَهُۥ ۖ

for Him

lahu

وَبِذَٰلِكَ

and with that

wabidhālika

أُمِرْتُ

I have been commanded

umir'tu

وَأَنَا۠

And I am

wa-anā

أَوَّلُ

(the) first

awwalu

ٱلْمُسْلِمِينَ

(of) the ones who surrender (to Him)

l-mus'limīna

١٦٣

No partner has He. And this I have been commanded, and I am the first [among you] of the Muslims."1

— Saheeh International

قُلْ

Say

qul

أَغَيْرَ

Is (it) other than

aghayra

ٱللَّهِ

Allah

l-lahi

أَبْغِى

I (should) seek

abghī

رَبًّۭا

(as) a Lord

rabban

وَهُوَ

while He

wahuwa

رَبُّ

(is) the Lord

rabbu

كُلِّ

(of) every

kulli

شَىْءٍۢ ۚ

thing

shayin

وَلَا

And not

walā

تَكْسِبُ

earns

taksibu

كُلُّ

every

kullu

نَفْسٍ

soul

nafsin

إِلَّا

except

illā

عَلَيْهَا ۚ

against itself

ʿalayhā

وَلَا

and not

walā

تَزِرُ

bears

taziru

وَازِرَةٌۭ

any bearer of burden

wāziratun

وِزْرَ

burden

wiz'ra

أُخْرَىٰ ۚ

(of) another

ukh'rā

ثُمَّ

Then

thumma

إِلَىٰ

to

ilā

رَبِّكُم

your Lord

rabbikum

مَّرْجِعُكُمْ

(is) your return

marjiʿukum

فَيُنَبِّئُكُم

then He will inform you

fayunabbi-ukum

بِمَا

about what

bimā

كُنتُمْ

you were

kuntum

فِيهِ

concerning it

fīhi

تَخْتَلِفُونَ

differing

takhtalifūna

١٦٤

Say, "Is it other than Allāh I should desire as a lord while He is the Lord of all things? And every soul earns not [blame] except against itself, and no bearer of burdens will bear the burden of another. Then to your Lord is your return, and He will inform you concerning that over which you used to differ."

— Saheeh International

وَهُوَ

And He

wahuwa

ٱلَّذِى

(is) the One Who

alladhī

جَعَلَكُمْ

(has) made you

jaʿalakum

خَلَـٰٓئِفَ

successors

khalāifa

ٱلْأَرْضِ

(of) the earth

l-arḍi

وَرَفَعَ

and raised

warafaʿa

بَعْضَكُمْ

some of you

baʿḍakum

فَوْقَ

above

fawqa

بَعْضٍۢ

others

baʿḍin

دَرَجَـٰتٍۢ

(in) ranks

darajātin

لِّيَبْلُوَكُمْ

so that He may test you

liyabluwakum

فِى

in

مَآ

what

ءَاتَىٰكُمْ ۗ

He has given you

ātākum

إِنَّ

Indeed

inna

رَبَّكَ

your Lord

rabbaka

سَرِيعُ

(is) swift

sarīʿu

ٱلْعِقَابِ

(in) the punishment

l-ʿiqābi

وَإِنَّهُۥ

and indeed, He (is)

wa-innahu

لَغَفُورٌۭ

[certainly], Oft-Forgiving

laghafūrun

رَّحِيمٌۢ

Most Merciful

raḥīmun

١٦٥

And it is He who has made you successors upon the earth and has raised some of you above others in degrees [of rank] that He may try you through what He has given you. Indeed, your Lord is swift in penalty; but indeed, He is Forgiving and Merciful.

— Saheeh International
