Ḥā, Meem.1

— Saheeh International

تَنزِيلُ

(The) revelation

tanzīlu

ٱلْكِتَـٰبِ

(of) the Book

l-kitābi

مِنَ

(is) from

mina

ٱللَّهِ

Allah

l-lahi

ٱلْعَزِيزِ

the All-Mighty

l-ʿazīzi

ٱلْعَلِيمِ

the All-Knower

l-ʿalīmi

٢

The revelation of the Book [i.e., the Qur’ān] is from Allāh, the Exalted in Might, the Knowing,

— Saheeh International

غَافِرِ

(The) Forgiver

ghāfiri

ٱلذَّنۢبِ

(of) the sin

l-dhanbi

وَقَابِلِ

and (the) Acceptor

waqābili

ٱلتَّوْبِ

(of) [the] repentance

l-tawbi

شَدِيدِ

severe

shadīdi

ٱلْعِقَابِ

(in) the punishment

l-ʿiqābi

ذِى

Owner (of) the abundance

dhī

ٱلطَّوْلِ ۖ

Owner (of) the abundance

l-ṭawli

لَآ

(There is) no

إِلَـٰهَ

god

ilāha

إِلَّا

except

illā

هُوَ ۖ

Him

huwa

إِلَيْهِ

to Him

ilayhi

ٱلْمَصِيرُ

(is) the final return

l-maṣīru

٣

The forgiver of sin, acceptor of repentance, severe in punishment, owner of abundance. There is no deity except Him; to Him is the destination.

— Saheeh International

Not

يُجَـٰدِلُ

dispute

yujādilu

فِىٓ

concerning

ءَايَـٰتِ

(the) Verses

āyāti

ٱللَّهِ

(of) Allah

l-lahi

إِلَّا

except

illā

ٱلَّذِينَ

those who

alladhīna

كَفَرُوا۟

disbelieve

kafarū

فَلَا

so (let) not

falā

يَغْرُرْكَ

deceive you

yaghrur'ka

تَقَلُّبُهُمْ

their movement

taqallubuhum

فِى

in

ٱلْبِلَـٰدِ

the cities

l-bilādi

٤

No one disputes concerning the signs of Allāh except those who disbelieve, so be not deceived by their [uninhibited] movement throughout the land.

— Saheeh International

كَذَّبَتْ

Denied

kadhabat

قَبْلَهُمْ

before them

qablahum

قَوْمُ

(the) people

qawmu

نُوحٍۢ

(of) Nuh

nūḥin

وَٱلْأَحْزَابُ

and the factions

wal-aḥzābu

مِنۢ

after them

min

بَعْدِهِمْ ۖ

after them

baʿdihim

وَهَمَّتْ

and plotted

wahammat

كُلُّ

every

kullu

أُمَّةٍۭ

nation

ummatin

بِرَسُولِهِمْ

against their Messenger

birasūlihim

لِيَأْخُذُوهُ ۖ

to seize him

liyakhudhūhu

وَجَـٰدَلُوا۟

and they disputed

wajādalū

بِٱلْبَـٰطِلِ

by falsehood

bil-bāṭili

لِيُدْحِضُوا۟

to refute

liyud'ḥiḍū

بِهِ

thereby

bihi

ٱلْحَقَّ

the truth

l-ḥaqa

فَأَخَذْتُهُمْ ۖ

So I seized them

fa-akhadhtuhum

فَكَيْفَ

Then how

fakayfa

كَانَ

was

kāna

عِقَابِ

My penalty

ʿiqābi

٥

The people of Noah denied before them and the [disbelieving] factions after them, and every nation intended [a plot] for their messenger to seize him, and they disputed by [using] falsehood to [attempt to] invalidate thereby the truth. So I seized them, and how [terrible] was My penalty.

— Saheeh International

وَكَذَٰلِكَ

And thus

wakadhālika

حَقَّتْ

has been justified

ḥaqqat

كَلِمَتُ

(the) Word

kalimatu

رَبِّكَ

(of) your Lord

rabbika

عَلَى

against

ʿalā

ٱلَّذِينَ

those who

alladhīna

كَفَرُوٓا۟

disbelieved

kafarū

أَنَّهُمْ

that they

annahum

أَصْحَـٰبُ

(are) companions

aṣḥābu

ٱلنَّارِ

(of) the Fire

l-nāri

٦

And thus has the word [i.e., decree] of your Lord come into effect upon those who disbelieved that they are companions of the Fire.

— Saheeh International

ٱلَّذِينَ

Those who

alladhīna

يَحْمِلُونَ

bear

yaḥmilūna

ٱلْعَرْشَ

the Throne

l-ʿarsha

وَمَنْ

and who

waman

حَوْلَهُۥ

(are) around it

ḥawlahu

يُسَبِّحُونَ

glorify

yusabbiḥūna

بِحَمْدِ

(the) praises

biḥamdi

رَبِّهِمْ

(of) their Lord

rabbihim

وَيُؤْمِنُونَ

and believe

wayu'minūna

بِهِۦ

in Him

bihi

وَيَسْتَغْفِرُونَ

and ask forgiveness

wayastaghfirūna

لِلَّذِينَ

for those who

lilladhīna

ءَامَنُوا۟

believe

āmanū

رَبَّنَا

Our Lord

rabbanā

وَسِعْتَ

You encompass

wasiʿ'ta

كُلَّ

all

kulla

شَىْءٍۢ

things

shayin

رَّحْمَةًۭ

(by Your) Mercy

raḥmatan

وَعِلْمًۭا

and knowledge

waʿil'man

فَٱغْفِرْ

so forgive

fa-igh'fir

لِلَّذِينَ

those who

lilladhīna

تَابُوا۟

repent

tābū

وَٱتَّبَعُوا۟

and follow

wa-ittabaʿū

سَبِيلَكَ

Your Way

sabīlaka

وَقِهِمْ

and save them (from)

waqihim

عَذَابَ

(the) punishment

ʿadhāba

ٱلْجَحِيمِ

(of) the Hellfire

l-jaḥīmi

٧

Those [angels] who carry the Throne and those around it exalt [Allāh] with praise of their Lord and believe in Him and ask forgiveness for those who have believed, [saying], "Our Lord, You have encompassed all things in mercy and knowledge, so forgive those who have repented and followed Your way and protect them from the punishment of Hellfire.

— Saheeh International

رَبَّنَا

Our Lord

rabbanā

وَأَدْخِلْهُمْ

And admit them

wa-adkhil'hum

جَنَّـٰتِ

(to) Gardens

jannāti

عَدْنٍ

(of) Eden

ʿadnin

ٱلَّتِى

which

allatī

وَعَدتَّهُمْ

You have promised them

waʿadttahum

وَمَن

and whoever

waman

صَلَحَ

(was) righteous

ṣalaḥa

مِنْ

among

min

ءَابَآئِهِمْ

their fathers

ābāihim

وَأَزْوَٰجِهِمْ

and their spouses

wa-azwājihim

وَذُرِّيَّـٰتِهِمْ ۚ

and their offspring

wadhurriyyātihim

إِنَّكَ

Indeed You

innaka

أَنتَ

You

anta

ٱلْعَزِيزُ

(are) the All-Mighty

l-ʿazīzu

ٱلْحَكِيمُ

the All-Wise

l-ḥakīmu

٨

Our Lord, and admit them to gardens of perpetual residence which You have promised them and whoever was righteous among their forefathers, their spouses and their offspring. Indeed, it is You who is the Exalted in Might, the Wise.

— Saheeh International

وَقِهِمُ

And protect them

waqihimu

ٱلسَّيِّـَٔاتِ ۚ

(from) the evils

l-sayiāti

وَمَن

And whoever

waman

تَقِ

you protect

taqi

ٱلسَّيِّـَٔاتِ

(from) the evils

l-sayiāti

يَوْمَئِذٍۢ

that Day

yawma-idhin

فَقَدْ

then verily

faqad

رَحِمْتَهُۥ ۚ

You have bestowed mercy on him

raḥim'tahu

وَذَٰلِكَ

And that

wadhālika

هُوَ

[it]

huwa

ٱلْفَوْزُ

(is) the success

l-fawzu

ٱلْعَظِيمُ

the great

l-ʿaẓīmu

٩

And protect them from the evil consequences [of their deeds]. And he whom You protect from evil consequences that Day - You will have given him mercy. And that is the great attainment."

— Saheeh International

إِنَّ

Indeed

inna

ٱلَّذِينَ

those who

alladhīna

كَفَرُوا۟

disbelieved

kafarū

يُنَادَوْنَ

will be cried out to them

yunādawna

لَمَقْتُ

Certainly Allah's hatred

lamaqtu

ٱللَّهِ

Certainly Allah's hatred

l-lahi

أَكْبَرُ

(was) greater

akbaru

مِن

than

min

مَّقْتِكُمْ

your hatred

maqtikum

أَنفُسَكُمْ

(of) yourselves

anfusakum

إِذْ

when

idh

تُدْعَوْنَ

you were called

tud'ʿawna

إِلَى

to

ilā

ٱلْإِيمَـٰنِ

the faith

l-īmāni

فَتَكْفُرُونَ

and you disbelieved

fatakfurūna

١٠

Indeed, those who disbelieve will be addressed, "The hatred of Allāh for you was [even] greater than your hatred of yourselves [this Day in Hell] when you were invited to faith, but you disbelieved [i.e., refused]."

— Saheeh International

قَالُوا۟

They (will) say

qālū

رَبَّنَآ

Our Lord

rabbanā

أَمَتَّنَا

You gave us death

amattanā

ٱثْنَتَيْنِ

twice

ith'natayni

وَأَحْيَيْتَنَا

and You gave us life

wa-aḥyaytanā

ٱثْنَتَيْنِ

twice

ith'natayni

فَٱعْتَرَفْنَا

and we confess

fa-iʿ'tarafnā

بِذُنُوبِنَا

our sins

bidhunūbinā

فَهَلْ

So is (there)

fahal

إِلَىٰ

to

ilā

خُرُوجٍۢ

get out

khurūjin

مِّن

any

min

سَبِيلٍۢ

way

sabīlin

١١

They will say, "Our Lord, You made us lifeless twice and gave us life twice, and we have confessed our sins. So is there to an exit any way?"

— Saheeh International

ذَٰلِكُم

That

dhālikum

بِأَنَّهُۥٓ

(is) because

bi-annahu

إِذَا

when

idhā

دُعِىَ

Allah was invoked

duʿiya

ٱللَّهُ

Allah was invoked

l-lahu

وَحْدَهُۥ

Alone

waḥdahu

كَفَرْتُمْ ۖ

you disbelieved

kafartum

وَإِن

but if

wa-in

يُشْرَكْ

(others) were associated

yush'rak

بِهِۦ

with Him

bihi

تُؤْمِنُوا۟ ۚ

you believed

tu'minū

فَٱلْحُكْمُ

So the judgment

fal-ḥuk'mu

لِلَّهِ

(is) with Allah

lillahi

ٱلْعَلِىِّ

the Most High

l-ʿaliyi

ٱلْكَبِيرِ

the Most Great

l-kabīri

١٢

[They will be told], "That is because, when Allāh was called upon alone, you disbelieved; but if others were associated with Him, you believed. So the judgement is with Allāh, the Most High, the Grand."

— Saheeh International

هُوَ

He

huwa

ٱلَّذِى

(is) the One Who

alladhī

يُرِيكُمْ

shows you

yurīkum

ءَايَـٰتِهِۦ

His Signs

āyātihi

وَيُنَزِّلُ

and sends down

wayunazzilu

لَكُم

for you

lakum

مِّنَ

from

mina

ٱلسَّمَآءِ

the sky

l-samāi

رِزْقًۭا ۚ

provision

riz'qan

وَمَا

But (does) not

wamā

يَتَذَكَّرُ

take heed

yatadhakkaru

إِلَّا

except

illā

مَن

(one) who

man

يُنِيبُ

turns

yunību

١٣

It is He who shows you His signs and sends down to you from the sky, provision. But none will remember except he who turns back [in repentance].

— Saheeh International

فَٱدْعُوا۟

So invoke

fa-id'ʿū

ٱللَّهَ

Allah

l-laha

مُخْلِصِينَ

(being) sincere

mukh'liṣīna

لَهُ

to Him

lahu

ٱلدِّينَ

(in) the religion

l-dīna

وَلَوْ

even though

walaw

كَرِهَ

dislike (it)

kariha

ٱلْكَـٰفِرُونَ

the disbelievers

l-kāfirūna

١٤

So invoke Allāh, [being] sincere to Him in religion, although the disbelievers dislike it.

— Saheeh International

رَفِيعُ

Possessor of the Highest Ranks

rafīʿu

ٱلدَّرَجَـٰتِ

Possessor of the Highest Ranks

l-darajāti

ذُو

Owner (of) the Throne

dhū

ٱلْعَرْشِ

Owner (of) the Throne

l-ʿarshi

يُلْقِى

He places

yul'qī

ٱلرُّوحَ

the inspiration

l-rūḥa

مِنْ

of

min

أَمْرِهِۦ

His Command

amrihi

عَلَىٰ

upon

ʿalā

مَن

whom

man

يَشَآءُ

He wills

yashāu

مِنْ

of

min

عِبَادِهِۦ

His slaves

ʿibādihi

لِيُنذِرَ

to warn

liyundhira

يَوْمَ

(of the) Day

yawma

ٱلتَّلَاقِ

(of) the Meeting

l-talāqi

١٥

[He is] the Exalted above [all] degrees, Owner of the Throne; He places the inspiration of His command [i.e., revelation] upon whom He wills of His servants to warn of the Day of Meeting.

— Saheeh International

يَوْمَ

(The) Day

yawma

هُم

بَـٰرِزُونَ ۖ

come forth

bārizūna

لَا

not

يَخْفَىٰ

is hidden

yakhfā

عَلَى

from

ʿalā

ٱللَّهِ

Allah

l-lahi

مِنْهُمْ

about them

min'hum

شَىْءٌۭ ۚ

anything

shayon

لِّمَنِ

For whom

limani

ٱلْمُلْكُ

(is) the Dominion

l-mul'ku

ٱلْيَوْمَ ۖ

this Day

l-yawma

لِلَّهِ

For Allah

lillahi

ٱلْوَٰحِدِ

the One

l-wāḥidi

ٱلْقَهَّارِ

the Irresistible

l-qahāri

١٦

The Day they come forth nothing concerning them will be concealed from Allāh. To whom belongs [all] sovereignty this Day? To Allāh, the One, the Prevailing.1

— Saheeh International

ٱلْيَوْمَ

This Day

al-yawma

تُجْزَىٰ

will be recompensed

tuj'zā

كُلُّ

every

kullu

نَفْسٍۭ

soul

nafsin

بِمَا

for what

bimā

كَسَبَتْ ۚ

it earned

kasabat

لَا

No

ظُلْمَ

injustice

ẓul'ma

ٱلْيَوْمَ ۚ

today

l-yawma

إِنَّ

Indeed

inna

ٱللَّهَ

Allah

l-laha

سَرِيعُ

(is) Swift

sarīʿu

ٱلْحِسَابِ

(in) Account

l-ḥisābi

١٧

This Day every soul will be recompensed for what it earned. No injustice today! Indeed, Allāh is swift in account.

— Saheeh International

وَأَنذِرْهُمْ

And warn them

wa-andhir'hum

يَوْمَ

(of the) Day

yawma

ٱلْـَٔازِفَةِ

the Approaching

l-āzifati

إِذِ

when

idhi

ٱلْقُلُوبُ

the hearts

l-qulūbu

لَدَى

(are) at

ladā

ٱلْحَنَاجِرِ

the throats

l-ḥanājiri

كَـٰظِمِينَ ۚ

choked

kāẓimīna

مَا

Not

لِلظَّـٰلِمِينَ

for the wrongdoers

lilẓẓālimīna

مِنْ

any

min

حَمِيمٍۢ

intimate friend

ḥamīmin

وَلَا

and no

walā

شَفِيعٍۢ

intercessor

shafīʿin

يُطَاعُ

(who) is obeyed

yuṭāʿu

١٨

And warn them, [O Muḥammad], of the Approaching Day, when hearts are at the throats, filled [with distress]. For the wrongdoers there will be no devoted friend and no intercessor [who is] obeyed.

— Saheeh International

يَعْلَمُ

He knows

yaʿlamu

خَآئِنَةَ

(the) stealthy glance

khāinata

ٱلْأَعْيُنِ

(the) stealthy glance

l-aʿyuni

وَمَا

and what

wamā

تُخْفِى

conceal

tukh'fī

ٱلصُّدُورُ

the breasts

l-ṣudūru

١٩

He knows that which deceives the eyes and what the breasts conceal.

— Saheeh International

وَٱللَّهُ

And Allah

wal-lahu

يَقْضِى

judges

yaqḍī

بِٱلْحَقِّ ۖ

in truth

bil-ḥaqi

وَٱلَّذِينَ

while those (whom)

wa-alladhīna

يَدْعُونَ

they invoke

yadʿūna

مِن

besides Him

min

دُونِهِۦ

besides Him

dūnihi

لَا

not

يَقْضُونَ

they judge

yaqḍūna

بِشَىْءٍ ۗ

with anything

bishayin

إِنَّ

Indeed

inna

ٱللَّهَ

Allah

l-laha

هُوَ

He

huwa

ٱلسَّمِيعُ

(is) the All-Hearer

l-samīʿu

ٱلْبَصِيرُ

the All-Seer

l-baṣīru

٢٠

And Allāh judges with truth, while those they invoke1 besides Him judge not with anything. Indeed, Allāh - He is the Hearing, the Seeing.

— Saheeh International

۞ أَوَلَمْ

Do not

awalam

يَسِيرُوا۟

they travel

yasīrū

فِى

in

ٱلْأَرْضِ

the earth

l-arḍi

فَيَنظُرُوا۟

and see

fayanẓurū

كَيْفَ

how

kayfa

كَانَ

was

kāna

عَـٰقِبَةُ

(the) end

ʿāqibatu

ٱلَّذِينَ

(of) those who

alladhīna

كَانُوا۟

were

kānū

مِن

before them

min

قَبْلِهِمْ ۚ

before them

qablihim

كَانُوا۟

They were

kānū

هُمْ

[they]

hum

أَشَدَّ

superior

ashadda

مِنْهُمْ

to them

min'hum

قُوَّةًۭ

(in) strength

quwwatan

وَءَاثَارًۭا

and (in) impressions

waāthāran

فِى

in

ٱلْأَرْضِ

the land

l-arḍi

فَأَخَذَهُمُ

but Allah seized them

fa-akhadhahumu

ٱللَّهُ

but Allah seized them

l-lahu

بِذُنُوبِهِمْ

for their sins

bidhunūbihim

وَمَا

and not

wamā

كَانَ

was

kāna

لَهُم

for them

lahum

مِّنَ

against

mina

ٱللَّهِ

Allah

l-lahi

مِن

any

min

وَاقٍۢ

protector

wāqin

٢١

Have they not traveled through the land and observed how was the end of those who were before them? They were greater than them in strength and in impression on the land, but Allāh seized them for their sins. And they had not from Allāh any protector.

— Saheeh International

ذَٰلِكَ

That

dhālika

بِأَنَّهُمْ

(was) because [they]

bi-annahum

كَانَت

used to come to them

kānat

تَّأْتِيهِمْ

used to come to them

tatīhim

رُسُلُهُم

their Messengers

rusuluhum

بِٱلْبَيِّنَـٰتِ

with clear proofs

bil-bayināti

فَكَفَرُوا۟

but they disbelieved

fakafarū

فَأَخَذَهُمُ

So Allah seized them

fa-akhadhahumu

ٱللَّهُ ۚ

So Allah seized them

l-lahu

إِنَّهُۥ

Indeed, He

innahu

قَوِىٌّۭ

(is) All-Strong

qawiyyun

شَدِيدُ

severe

shadīdu

ٱلْعِقَابِ

(in) punishment

l-ʿiqābi

٢٢

That was because their messengers were coming to them with clear proofs, but they disbelieved, so Allāh seized them. Indeed, He is Powerful and severe in punishment.

— Saheeh International

وَلَقَدْ

And certainly

walaqad

أَرْسَلْنَا

We sent

arsalnā

مُوسَىٰ

Musa

mūsā

بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَا

with Our Signs

biāyātinā

وَسُلْطَـٰنٍۢ

and an authority

wasul'ṭānin

مُّبِينٍ

clear

mubīnin

٢٣

And We did certainly send Moses with Our signs and a clear authority1

— Saheeh International

إِلَىٰ

To

ilā

فِرْعَوْنَ

Firaun

fir'ʿawna

وَهَـٰمَـٰنَ

Haman

wahāmāna

وَقَـٰرُونَ

and Qarun

waqārūna

فَقَالُوا۟

but they said

faqālū

سَـٰحِرٌۭ

A magician

sāḥirun

كَذَّابٌۭ

a liar

kadhābun

٢٤

To Pharaoh, Hāmān and Qārūn, but they said, "[He is] a magician and a liar."

— Saheeh International

فَلَمَّا

Then when

falammā

جَآءَهُم

he brought to them

jāahum

بِٱلْحَقِّ

the truth

bil-ḥaqi

مِنْ

from

min

عِندِنَا

Us

ʿindinā

قَالُوا۟

they said

qālū

ٱقْتُلُوٓا۟

Kill

uq'tulū

أَبْنَآءَ

(the) sons

abnāa

ٱلَّذِينَ

(of) those who

alladhīna

ءَامَنُوا۟

believe

āmanū

مَعَهُۥ

with him

maʿahu

وَٱسْتَحْيُوا۟

and let live

wa-is'taḥyū

نِسَآءَهُمْ ۚ

their women

nisāahum

وَمَا

And not

wamā

كَيْدُ

(is the) plot

kaydu

ٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَ

(of) the disbelievers

l-kāfirīna

إِلَّا

but

illā

فِى

in

ضَلَـٰلٍۢ

error

ḍalālin

٢٥

And when he brought them the truth from Us, they said, "Kill the sons of those who have believed with him and keep their women alive." But the plan of the disbelievers is not except in error.

— Saheeh International

وَقَالَ

And said

waqāla

فِرْعَوْنُ

Firaun

fir'ʿawnu

ذَرُونِىٓ

Leave me

dharūnī

أَقْتُلْ

(so that) I kill

aqtul

مُوسَىٰ

Musa

mūsā

وَلْيَدْعُ

and let him call

walyadʿu

رَبَّهُۥٓ ۖ

his Lord

rabbahu

إِنِّىٓ

Indeed, I

innī

أَخَافُ

[I] fear

akhāfu

أَن

that

an

يُبَدِّلَ

he will change

yubaddila

دِينَكُمْ

your religion

dīnakum

أَوْ

or

aw

أَن

that

an

يُظْهِرَ

he may cause to appear

yuẓ'hira

فِى

in

ٱلْأَرْضِ

the land

l-arḍi

ٱلْفَسَادَ

the corruption

l-fasāda

٢٦

And Pharaoh said, "Let me kill Moses and let him call upon his Lord. Indeed, I fear that he will change your religion or that he will cause corruption1 in the land."

— Saheeh International

وَقَالَ

And said

waqāla

مُوسَىٰٓ

Musa

mūsā

إِنِّى

Indeed, I

innī

عُذْتُ

[I] seek refuge

ʿudh'tu

بِرَبِّى

in my Lord

birabbī

وَرَبِّكُم

and your Lord

warabbikum

مِّن

from

min

كُلِّ

every

kulli

مُتَكَبِّرٍۢ

arrogant one

mutakabbirin

لَّا

not

يُؤْمِنُ

who believes

yu'minu

بِيَوْمِ

(in the) Day

biyawmi

ٱلْحِسَابِ

(of) the Account

l-ḥisābi

٢٧

But Moses said, "Indeed, I have sought refuge in my Lord and your Lord from every arrogant one who does not believe in the Day of Account."

— Saheeh International

وَقَالَ

And said

waqāla

رَجُلٌۭ

a man

rajulun

مُّؤْمِنٌۭ

believing

mu'minun

مِّنْ

from

min

ءَالِ

(the) family

āli

فِرْعَوْنَ

(of) Firaun

fir'ʿawna

يَكْتُمُ

who conceal(ed)

yaktumu

إِيمَـٰنَهُۥٓ

his faith

īmānahu

أَتَقْتُلُونَ

Will you kill

ataqtulūna

رَجُلًا

a man

rajulan

أَن

because

an

يَقُولَ

he says

yaqūla

رَبِّىَ

My Lord

rabbiya

ٱللَّهُ

(is) Allah

l-lahu

وَقَدْ

and indeed

waqad

جَآءَكُم

he has brought you

jāakum

بِٱلْبَيِّنَـٰتِ

clear proofs

bil-bayināti

مِن

from

min

رَّبِّكُمْ ۖ

your Lord

rabbikum

وَإِن

And if

wa-in

يَكُ

he is

yaku

كَـٰذِبًۭا

a liar

kādhiban

فَعَلَيْهِ

then upon him

faʿalayhi

كَذِبُهُۥ ۖ

(is) his lie

kadhibuhu

وَإِن

and if

wa-in

يَكُ

he is

yaku

صَادِقًۭا

truthful

ṣādiqan

يُصِبْكُم

(there) will strike you

yuṣib'kum

بَعْضُ

some (of)

baʿḍu

ٱلَّذِى

(that) which

alladhī

يَعِدُكُمْ ۖ

he threatens you

yaʿidukum

إِنَّ

Indeed

inna

ٱللَّهَ

Allah

l-laha

لَا

(does) not

يَهْدِى

guide

yahdī

مَنْ

(one) who

man

هُوَ

[he]

huwa

مُسْرِفٌۭ

(is) a transgressor

mus'rifun

كَذَّابٌۭ

a liar

kadhābun

٢٨

And a believing man from the family of Pharaoh who concealed his faith said, "Do you kill a man [merely] because he says, 'My Lord is Allāh' while he has brought you clear proofs from your Lord? And if he should be lying, then upon him is [the consequence of] his lie; but if he should be truthful, there will strike you some of what he promises you. Indeed, Allāh does not guide one who is a transgressor and a liar.

— Saheeh International

يَـٰقَوْمِ

O my people

yāqawmi

لَكُمُ

For you

lakumu

ٱلْمُلْكُ

(is) the kingdom

l-mul'ku

ٱلْيَوْمَ

today

l-yawma

ظَـٰهِرِينَ

dominant

ẓāhirīna

فِى

in

ٱلْأَرْضِ

the land

l-arḍi

فَمَن

but who

faman

يَنصُرُنَا

will help us

yanṣurunā

مِنۢ

from

min

بَأْسِ

(the) punishment

basi

ٱللَّهِ

(of) Allah

l-lahi

إِن

if

in

جَآءَنَا ۚ

it came to us

jāanā

قَالَ

Said

qāla

فِرْعَوْنُ

Firaun

fir'ʿawnu

مَآ

Not

أُرِيكُمْ

I show you

urīkum

إِلَّا

except

illā

مَآ

what

أَرَىٰ

I see

arā

وَمَآ

and not

wamā

أَهْدِيكُمْ

I guide you

ahdīkum

إِلَّا

except

illā

سَبِيلَ

(to the) path

sabīla

ٱلرَّشَادِ

the right

l-rashādi

٢٩

O my people, sovereignty is yours today, [your being] dominant in the land. But who would protect us from the punishment of Allāh if it came to us?" Pharaoh said, "I do not show you except what I see, and I do not guide you except to the way of right conduct."

— Saheeh International

وَقَالَ

And said

waqāla

ٱلَّذِىٓ

(he) who

alladhī

ءَامَنَ

believed

āmana

يَـٰقَوْمِ

O my people

yāqawmi

إِنِّىٓ

Indeed I

innī

أَخَافُ

[I] fear

akhāfu

عَلَيْكُم

for you

ʿalaykum

مِّثْلَ

like

mith'la

يَوْمِ

(the) day

yawmi

ٱلْأَحْزَابِ

(of) the companies

l-aḥzābi

٣٠

And he who believed said, "O my people, indeed I fear for you [a fate] like the day of the companies1 -

— Saheeh International

مِثْلَ

Like

mith'la

دَأْبِ

(the) plight

dabi

قَوْمِ

(of the) people

qawmi

نُوحٍۢ

(of) Nuh

nūḥin

وَعَادٍۢ

and Aad

waʿādin

وَثَمُودَ

and Thamud

wathamūda

وَٱلَّذِينَ

and those

wa-alladhīna

مِنۢ

after them

min

بَعْدِهِمْ ۚ

after them

baʿdihim

وَمَا

And Allah (does) not

wamā

ٱللَّهُ

And Allah (does) not

l-lahu

يُرِيدُ

want

yurīdu

ظُلْمًۭا

injustice

ẓul'man

لِّلْعِبَادِ

for (His) slaves

lil'ʿibādi

٣١

Like the custom of the people of Noah and of ʿAad and Thamūd and those after them. And Allāh wants no injustice for [His] servants.

— Saheeh International

وَيَـٰقَوْمِ

And O my people

wayāqawmi

إِنِّىٓ

Indeed, I

innī

أَخَافُ

[I] fear

akhāfu

عَلَيْكُمْ

for you

ʿalaykum

يَوْمَ

(the) Day

yawma

ٱلتَّنَادِ

(of) Calling

l-tanādi

٣٢

And O my people, indeed I fear for you the Day of Calling1 -

— Saheeh International

يَوْمَ

A Day

yawma

تُوَلُّونَ

you will turn back

tuwallūna

مُدْبِرِينَ

fleeing

mud'birīna

مَا

not

لَكُم

for you

lakum

مِّنَ

from

mina

ٱللَّهِ

Allah

l-lahi

مِنْ

any

min

عَاصِمٍۢ ۗ

protector

ʿāṣimin

وَمَن

And whoever

waman

يُضْلِلِ

Allah lets go astray

yuḍ'lili

ٱللَّهُ

Allah lets go astray

l-lahu

فَمَا

then not

famā

لَهُۥ

for him

lahu

مِنْ

any

min

هَادٍۢ

guide

hādin

٣٣

The Day you will turn your backs fleeing; there is not for you from Allāh any protector. And whoever Allāh sends astray - there is not for him any guide.

— Saheeh International

وَلَقَدْ

And indeed

walaqad

جَآءَكُمْ

came to you

jāakum

يُوسُفُ

Yusuf

yūsufu

مِن

before

min

قَبْلُ

before

qablu

بِٱلْبَيِّنَـٰتِ

with clear proofs

bil-bayināti

فَمَا

but not

famā

زِلْتُمْ

you ceased

zil'tum

فِى

in

شَكٍّۢ

doubt

shakkin

مِّمَّا

about what

mimmā

جَآءَكُم

he brought to you

jāakum

بِهِۦ ۖ

[with it]

bihi

حَتَّىٰٓ

until

ḥattā

إِذَا

when

idhā

هَلَكَ

he died

halaka

قُلْتُمْ

you said

qul'tum

لَن

Never

lan

يَبْعَثَ

will Allah raise

yabʿatha

ٱللَّهُ

will Allah raise

l-lahu

مِنۢ

after him

min

بَعْدِهِۦ

after him

baʿdihi

رَسُولًۭا ۚ

a Messenger

rasūlan

كَذَٰلِكَ

Thus

kadhālika

يُضِلُّ

Allah lets go astray

yuḍillu

ٱللَّهُ

Allah lets go astray

l-lahu

مَنْ

who

man

هُوَ

[he]

huwa

مُسْرِفٌۭ

(is) a transgressor

mus'rifun

مُّرْتَابٌ

a doubter

mur'tābun

٣٤

And Joseph had already come to you before with clear proofs, but you remained in doubt of that which he brought to you, until when he died, you said, 'Never will Allāh send a messenger after him.' Thus does Allāh leave astray he who is a transgressor and skeptic."

— Saheeh International

ٱلَّذِينَ

Those who

alladhīna

يُجَـٰدِلُونَ

dispute

yujādilūna

فِىٓ

concerning

ءَايَـٰتِ

(the) Signs

āyāti

ٱللَّهِ

(of) Allah

l-lahi

بِغَيْرِ

without

bighayri

سُلْطَـٰنٍ

any authority

sul'ṭānin

أَتَىٰهُمْ ۖ

(having) come to them

atāhum

كَبُرَ

(it) is greatly

kabura

مَقْتًا

hateful

maqtan

عِندَ

near Allah

ʿinda

ٱللَّهِ

near Allah

l-lahi

وَعِندَ

and near

waʿinda

ٱلَّذِينَ

those

alladhīna

ءَامَنُوا۟ ۚ

who believe

āmanū

كَذَٰلِكَ

Thus

kadhālika

يَطْبَعُ

Allah sets a seal

yaṭbaʿu

ٱللَّهُ

Allah sets a seal

l-lahu

عَلَىٰ

over

ʿalā

كُلِّ

every

kulli

قَلْبِ

heart

qalbi

مُتَكَبِّرٍۢ

(of) an arrogant

mutakabbirin

جَبَّارٍۢ

tyrant

jabbārin

٣٥

Those who dispute concerning the signs of Allāh without an authority1 having come to them - great is hatred [of them] in the sight of Allāh and in the sight of those who have believed. Thus does Allāh seal over every heart [belonging to] an arrogant tyrant.

— Saheeh International

وَقَالَ

And said

waqāla

فِرْعَوْنُ

Firaun

fir'ʿawnu

يَـٰهَـٰمَـٰنُ

O Haman

yāhāmānu

ٱبْنِ

Construct

ib'ni

لِى

for me

صَرْحًۭا

a tower

ṣarḥan

لَّعَلِّىٓ

that I may

laʿallī

أَبْلُغُ

reach

ablughu

ٱلْأَسْبَـٰبَ

the ways

l-asbāba

٣٦

And Pharaoh said, "O Hāmān, construct for me a tower that I might reach the ways1 -

— Saheeh International

أَسْبَـٰبَ

(The) ways

asbāba

ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ

(to) the heavens

l-samāwāti

فَأَطَّلِعَ

so I may look

fa-aṭṭaliʿa

إِلَىٰٓ

at

ilā

إِلَـٰهِ

(the) God

ilāhi

مُوسَىٰ

(of) Musa

mūsā

وَإِنِّى

and indeed, I

wa-innī

لَأَظُنُّهُۥ

[I] surely think him

la-aẓunnuhu

كَـٰذِبًۭا ۚ

(to be) a liar

kādhiban

وَكَذَٰلِكَ

And thus

wakadhālika

زُيِّنَ

was made fair-seeming

zuyyina

لِفِرْعَوْنَ

to Firaun

lifir'ʿawna

سُوٓءُ

(the) evil

sūu

عَمَلِهِۦ

(of) his deed

ʿamalihi

وَصُدَّ

and he was averted

waṣudda

عَنِ

from

ʿani

ٱلسَّبِيلِ ۚ

the way

l-sabīli

وَمَا

And not

wamā

كَيْدُ

(was the) plot

kaydu

فِرْعَوْنَ

(of) Firaun

fir'ʿawna

إِلَّا

except

illā

فِى

in

تَبَابٍۢ

ruin

tabābin

٣٧

The ways into the heavens - so that I may look at the deity of Moses; but indeed, I think he is a liar." And thus was made attractive to Pharaoh the evil of his deed, and he was averted from the [right] way. And the plan of Pharaoh was not except in ruin.

— Saheeh International

وَقَالَ

And said

waqāla

ٱلَّذِىٓ

the one who

alladhī

ءَامَنَ

believed

āmana

يَـٰقَوْمِ

O my people

yāqawmi

ٱتَّبِعُونِ

Follow me

ittabiʿūni

أَهْدِكُمْ

I will guide you

ahdikum

سَبِيلَ

(to the) way

sabīla

ٱلرَّشَادِ

the right

l-rashādi

٣٨

And he who believed said, "O my people, follow me; I will guide you to the way of right conduct.

— Saheeh International

يَـٰقَوْمِ

O my people

yāqawmi

إِنَّمَا

Only

innamā

هَـٰذِهِ

this

hādhihi

ٱلْحَيَوٰةُ

the life

l-ḥayatu

ٱلدُّنْيَا

(of) the world

l-dun'yā

مَتَـٰعٌۭ

(is) enjoyment

matāʿun

وَإِنَّ

and indeed

wa-inna

ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةَ

the Hereafter

l-ākhirata

هِىَ

it

hiya

دَارُ

(is the) home

dāru

ٱلْقَرَارِ

(of) settlement

l-qarāri

٣٩

O my people, this worldly life is only [temporary] enjoyment, and indeed, the Hereafter - that is the home of [permanent] settlement.

— Saheeh International

مَنْ

Whoever

man

عَمِلَ

does

ʿamila

سَيِّئَةًۭ

an evil

sayyi-atan

فَلَا

then not

falā

يُجْزَىٰٓ

he will be recompensed

yuj'zā

إِلَّا

but

illā

مِثْلَهَا ۖ

(the) like thereof

mith'lahā

وَمَنْ

and whoever

waman

عَمِلَ

does

ʿamila

صَـٰلِحًۭا

righteous (deeds)

ṣāliḥan

مِّن

of

min

ذَكَرٍ

male

dhakarin

أَوْ

or

aw

أُنثَىٰ

female

unthā

وَهُوَ

while he

wahuwa

مُؤْمِنٌۭ

(is) a believer

mu'minun

فَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ

then those

fa-ulāika

يَدْخُلُونَ

will enter

yadkhulūna

ٱلْجَنَّةَ

Paradise

l-janata

يُرْزَقُونَ

they will be given provision

yur'zaqūna

فِيهَا

in it

fīhā

بِغَيْرِ

without

bighayri

حِسَابٍۢ

account

ḥisābin

٤٠

Whoever does an evil deed will not be recompensed except by the like thereof; but whoever does righteousness, whether male or female, while he is a believer - those will enter Paradise, being given provision therein without account.

— Saheeh International

۞ وَيَـٰقَوْمِ

And O my people

wayāqawmi

مَا

What (is)

لِىٓ

for me

أَدْعُوكُمْ

(that) I call you

adʿūkum

إِلَى

to

ilā

ٱلنَّجَوٰةِ

the salvation

l-najati

وَتَدْعُونَنِىٓ

while you call me

watadʿūnanī

إِلَى

to

ilā

ٱلنَّارِ

the Fire

l-nāri

٤١

And O my people, how is it that I invite you to salvation while you invite me to the Fire?

— Saheeh International

تَدْعُونَنِى

You call me

tadʿūnanī

لِأَكْفُرَ

that I disbelieve

li-akfura

بِٱللَّهِ

in Allah

bil-lahi

وَأُشْرِكَ

and (to) associate

wa-ush'rika

بِهِۦ

with Him

bihi

مَا

what

لَيْسَ

not

laysa

لِى

for me

بِهِۦ

of it

bihi

عِلْمٌۭ

any knowledge

ʿil'mun

وَأَنَا۠

and I

wa-anā

أَدْعُوكُمْ

call you

adʿūkum

إِلَى

to

ilā

ٱلْعَزِيزِ

the All-Mighty

l-ʿazīzi

ٱلْغَفَّـٰرِ

the Oft-Forgiving

l-ghafāri

٤٢

You invite me to disbelieve in Allāh and associate with Him that of which I have no knowledge, and I invite you to the Exalted in Might, the Perpetual Forgiver.1

— Saheeh International

لَا

No

جَرَمَ

doubt

jarama

أَنَّمَا

that what

annamā

تَدْعُونَنِىٓ

you call me

tadʿūnanī

إِلَيْهِ

to it

ilayhi

لَيْسَ

not

laysa

لَهُۥ

for it

lahu

دَعْوَةٌۭ

a claim

daʿwatun

فِى

in

ٱلدُّنْيَا

the world

l-dun'yā

وَلَا

and not

walā

فِى

in

ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ

the Hereafter

l-ākhirati

وَأَنَّ

and that

wa-anna

مَرَدَّنَآ

our return

maraddanā

إِلَى

(is) to

ilā

ٱللَّهِ

Allah

l-lahi

وَأَنَّ

and that

wa-anna

ٱلْمُسْرِفِينَ

the transgressors

l-mus'rifīna

هُمْ

they

hum

أَصْحَـٰبُ

(will be the) companions

aṣḥābu

ٱلنَّارِ

(of) the Fire

l-nāri

٤٣

Assuredly, that to which you invite me has no [response to a] supplication in this world or in the Hereafter; and indeed, our return is to Allāh, and indeed, the transgressors will be companions of the Fire.

— Saheeh International

فَسَتَذْكُرُونَ

And you will remember

fasatadhkurūna

مَآ

what

أَقُولُ

I say

aqūlu

لَكُمْ ۚ

to you

lakum

وَأُفَوِّضُ

and I entrust

wa-ufawwiḍu

أَمْرِىٓ

my affair

amrī

إِلَى

to

ilā

ٱللَّهِ ۚ

Allah

l-lahi

إِنَّ

Indeed

inna

ٱللَّهَ

Allah

l-laha

بَصِيرٌۢ

(is) All-Seer

baṣīrun

بِٱلْعِبَادِ

of (His) slaves

bil-ʿibādi

٤٤

And you will remember what I [now] say to you, and I entrust my affair to Allāh. Indeed, Allāh is Seeing of [His] servants."

— Saheeh International

فَوَقَىٰهُ

So Allah protected him

fawaqāhu

ٱللَّهُ

So Allah protected him

l-lahu

سَيِّـَٔاتِ

(from the) evils

sayyiāti

مَا

that

مَكَرُوا۟ ۖ

they plotted

makarū

وَحَاقَ

and enveloped

waḥāqa

بِـَٔالِ

(the) people

biāli

فِرْعَوْنَ

(of) Firaun

fir'ʿawna

سُوٓءُ

(the) worst

sūu

ٱلْعَذَابِ

punishment

l-ʿadhābi

٤٥

So Allāh protected him from the evils they plotted, and the people of Pharaoh were enveloped by the worst of punishment -

— Saheeh International

ٱلنَّارُ

The Fire

al-nāru

يُعْرَضُونَ

they are exposed

yuʿ'raḍūna

عَلَيْهَا

to it

ʿalayhā

غُدُوًّۭا

morning

ghuduwwan

وَعَشِيًّۭا ۖ

and evening

waʿashiyyan

وَيَوْمَ

And (the) Day

wayawma

تَقُومُ

(will be) established

taqūmu

ٱلسَّاعَةُ

the Hour

l-sāʿatu

أَدْخِلُوٓا۟

Cause to enter

adkhilū

ءَالَ

(the) people

āla

فِرْعَوْنَ

(of) Firaun

fir'ʿawna

أَشَدَّ

(in the) severest

ashadda

ٱلْعَذَابِ

punishment

l-ʿadhābi

٤٦

The Fire; they are exposed to it morning and evening.1 And the Day the Hour appears [it will be said], "Make the people of Pharaoh enter the severest punishment."

— Saheeh International

وَإِذْ

And when

wa-idh

يَتَحَآجُّونَ

they will dispute

yataḥājjūna

فِى

in

ٱلنَّارِ

the Fire

l-nāri

فَيَقُولُ

then will say

fayaqūlu

ٱلضُّعَفَـٰٓؤُا۟

the weak

l-ḍuʿafāu

لِلَّذِينَ

to those who

lilladhīna

ٱسْتَكْبَرُوٓا۟

were arrogant

is'takbarū

إِنَّا

Indeed, we

innā

كُنَّا

[we] were

kunnā

لَكُمْ

for you

lakum

تَبَعًۭا

followers

tabaʿan

فَهَلْ

so can

fahal

أَنتُم

you

antum

مُّغْنُونَ

avert

mugh'nūna

عَنَّا

from us

ʿannā

نَصِيبًۭا

a portion

naṣīban

مِّنَ

of

mina

ٱلنَّارِ

the Fire

l-nāri

٤٧

And [mention] when they will argue within the Fire, and the weak will say to those who had been arrogant, "Indeed, we were [only] your followers, so will you relieve us of a share of the Fire?"

— Saheeh International

قَالَ

Will say

qāla

ٱلَّذِينَ

those who

alladhīna

ٱسْتَكْبَرُوٓا۟

(were) arrogant

is'takbarū

إِنَّا

Indeed, we

innā

كُلٌّۭ

all

kullun

فِيهَآ

(are) in it

fīhā

إِنَّ

Indeed

inna

ٱللَّهَ

Allah

l-laha

قَدْ

certainly

qad

حَكَمَ

has judged

ḥakama

بَيْنَ

between

bayna

ٱلْعِبَادِ

(His) slaves

l-ʿibādi

٤٨

Those who had been arrogant will say, "Indeed, all [of us] are in it. Indeed, Allāh has judged between the servants."

— Saheeh International

وَقَالَ

And will say

waqāla

ٱلَّذِينَ

those

alladhīna

فِى

in

ٱلنَّارِ

the Fire

l-nāri

لِخَزَنَةِ

to (the) keepers

likhazanati

جَهَنَّمَ

(of) Hell

jahannama

ٱدْعُوا۟

Call

id'ʿū

رَبَّكُمْ

your Lord

rabbakum

يُخَفِّفْ

(to) lighten

yukhaffif

عَنَّا

for us

ʿannā

يَوْمًۭا

a day

yawman

مِّنَ

of

mina

ٱلْعَذَابِ

the punishment

l-ʿadhābi

٤٩

And those in the Fire will say to the keepers of Hell, "Supplicate your Lord to lighten for us a day from the punishment."

— Saheeh International

قَالُوٓا۟

They (will) say

qālū

أَوَلَمْ

Did there not

awalam

تَكُ

Did there not

taku

تَأْتِيكُمْ

come to you

tatīkum

رُسُلُكُم

your Messengers

rusulukum

بِٱلْبَيِّنَـٰتِ ۖ

with clear proofs

bil-bayināti

قَالُوا۟

They (will) say

qālū

بَلَىٰ ۚ

Yes

balā

قَالُوا۟

They (will) say

qālū

فَٱدْعُوا۟ ۗ

Then call

fa-id'ʿū

وَمَا

but not

wamā

دُعَـٰٓؤُا۟

(is the) call

duʿāu

ٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَ

(of) the disbelievers

l-kāfirīna

إِلَّا

except

illā

فِى

in

ضَلَـٰلٍ

error

ḍalālin

٥٠

They will say, "Did there not come to you your messengers with clear proofs?" They will say, "Yes." They will reply, "Then supplicate [yourselves], but the supplication of the disbelievers is not except in error [i.e., futility]."

— Saheeh International

إِنَّا

Indeed We

innā

لَنَنصُرُ

We will surely help

lananṣuru

رُسُلَنَا

Our Messengers

rusulanā

وَٱلَّذِينَ

and those who

wa-alladhīna

ءَامَنُوا۟

believe

āmanū

فِى

in

ٱلْحَيَوٰةِ

the life

l-ḥayati

ٱلدُّنْيَا

(of) the world

l-dun'yā

وَيَوْمَ

and (on the) Day

wayawma

يَقُومُ

(when) will stand

yaqūmu

ٱلْأَشْهَـٰدُ

the witnesses

l-ashhādu

٥١

Indeed, We will support Our messengers and those who believe during the life of this world and on the Day when the witnesses will stand -

— Saheeh International

يَوْمَ

(The) Day

yawma

لَا

not

يَنفَعُ

will benefit

yanfaʿu

ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ

the wrongdoers

l-ẓālimīna

مَعْذِرَتُهُمْ ۖ

their excuse

maʿdhiratuhum

وَلَهُمُ

and for them

walahumu

ٱللَّعْنَةُ

(is) the curse

l-laʿnatu

وَلَهُمْ

and for them

walahum

سُوٓءُ

(is the) worst

sūu

ٱلدَّارِ

home

l-dāri

٥٢

The Day their excuse will not benefit the wrongdoers, and they will have the curse, and they will have the worst home [i.e., Hell].

— Saheeh International

وَلَقَدْ

And certainly

walaqad

ءَاتَيْنَا

We gave

ātaynā

مُوسَى

Musa

mūsā

ٱلْهُدَىٰ

the guidance

l-hudā

وَأَوْرَثْنَا

and We caused to inherit

wa-awrathnā

بَنِىٓ

(the) Children of Israel

banī

إِسْرَٰٓءِيلَ

(the) Children of Israel

is'rāīla

ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ

the Book

l-kitāba

٥٣

And We had certainly given Moses guidance, and We caused the Children of Israel to inherit the Scripture

— Saheeh International

هُدًۭى

A guide

hudan

وَذِكْرَىٰ

and a reminder

wadhik'rā

لِأُو۟لِى

for those

li-ulī

ٱلْأَلْبَـٰبِ

(of) understanding

l-albābi

٥٤

As guidance and a reminder for those of understanding.

— Saheeh International

فَٱصْبِرْ

So be patient

fa-iṣ'bir

إِنَّ

indeed

inna

وَعْدَ

(the) Promise of Allah

waʿda

ٱللَّهِ

(the) Promise of Allah

l-lahi

حَقٌّۭ

(is) true

ḥaqqun

وَٱسْتَغْفِرْ

And ask forgiveness

wa-is'taghfir

لِذَنۢبِكَ

for your sin

lidhanbika

وَسَبِّحْ

and glorify

wasabbiḥ

بِحَمْدِ

(the) praise

biḥamdi

رَبِّكَ

(of) your Lord

rabbika

بِٱلْعَشِىِّ

in the evening

bil-ʿashiyi

وَٱلْإِبْكَـٰرِ

and the morning

wal-ib'kāri

٥٥

So be patient, [O Muḥammad]. Indeed, the promise of Allāh is truth. And ask forgiveness for your sin1 and exalt [Allāh] with praise of your Lord in the evening and the morning.

— Saheeh International

إِنَّ

Indeed

inna

ٱلَّذِينَ

those who

alladhīna

يُجَـٰدِلُونَ

dispute

yujādilūna

فِىٓ

concerning

ءَايَـٰتِ

(the) Signs

āyāti

ٱللَّهِ

(of) Allah

l-lahi

بِغَيْرِ

without

bighayri

سُلْطَـٰنٍ

any authority

sul'ṭānin

أَتَىٰهُمْ ۙ

(which) came to them

atāhum

إِن

not

in

فِى

(is) in

صُدُورِهِمْ

their breasts

ṣudūrihim

إِلَّا

but

illā

كِبْرٌۭ

greatness

kib'run

مَّا

not

هُم

they

hum

بِبَـٰلِغِيهِ ۚ

(can) reach it

bibālighīhi

فَٱسْتَعِذْ

So seek refuge

fa-is'taʿidh

بِٱللَّهِ ۖ

in Allah

bil-lahi

إِنَّهُۥ

Indeed He

innahu

هُوَ

He

huwa

ٱلسَّمِيعُ

(is) the All-Hearer

l-samīʿu

ٱلْبَصِيرُ

the All-Seer

l-baṣīru

٥٦

Indeed, those who dispute concerning the signs of Allāh without [any] evidence having come to them - there is not within their breasts except pride, [the extent of] which they cannot reach. So seek refuge in Allāh. Indeed, it is He who is the Hearing, the Seeing.

— Saheeh International

لَخَلْقُ

Surely, (the) creation

lakhalqu

ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ

(of) the heavens

l-samāwāti

وَٱلْأَرْضِ

and the earth

wal-arḍi

أَكْبَرُ

(is) greater

akbaru

مِنْ

than

min

خَلْقِ

(the) creation

khalqi

ٱلنَّاسِ

(of) the mankind

l-nāsi

وَلَـٰكِنَّ

but

walākinna

أَكْثَرَ

most

akthara

ٱلنَّاسِ

(of) the people

l-nāsi

لَا

(do) not

يَعْلَمُونَ

know

yaʿlamūna

٥٧

The creation of the heavens and earth is greater than the creation of mankind, but most of the people do not know.

— Saheeh International

وَمَا

And not

wamā

يَسْتَوِى

(are) equal

yastawī

ٱلْأَعْمَىٰ

the blind

l-aʿmā

وَٱلْبَصِيرُ

and the seeing

wal-baṣīru

وَٱلَّذِينَ

and those who

wa-alladhīna

ءَامَنُوا۟

believe

āmanū

وَعَمِلُوا۟

and do

waʿamilū

ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ

righteous deeds

l-ṣāliḥāti

وَلَا

and not

walā

ٱلْمُسِىٓءُ ۚ

the evildoer

l-musīu

قَلِيلًۭا

Little

qalīlan

مَّا

(is) what

تَتَذَكَّرُونَ

you take heed

tatadhakkarūna

٥٨

And not equal are the blind and the seeing, nor are those who believe and do righteous deeds and the evildoer. Little do you remember.

— Saheeh International

إِنَّ

Indeed

inna

ٱلسَّاعَةَ

the Hour

l-sāʿata

لَـَٔاتِيَةٌۭ

(is) surely coming

laātiyatun

لَّا

no

رَيْبَ

doubt

rayba

فِيهَا

in it

fīhā

وَلَـٰكِنَّ

but

walākinna

أَكْثَرَ

most

akthara

ٱلنَّاسِ

(of) the people

l-nāsi

لَا

(do) not

يُؤْمِنُونَ

believe

yu'minūna

٥٩

Indeed, the Hour is coming - no doubt about it - but most of the people do not believe.

— Saheeh International

وَقَالَ

And said

waqāla

رَبُّكُمُ

your Lord

rabbukumu

ٱدْعُونِىٓ

Call upon Me

id'ʿūnī

أَسْتَجِبْ

I will respond

astajib

لَكُمْ ۚ

to you

lakum

إِنَّ

Indeed

inna

ٱلَّذِينَ

those who

alladhīna

يَسْتَكْبِرُونَ

(are) proud

yastakbirūna

عَنْ

to

ʿan

عِبَادَتِى

worship Me

ʿibādatī

سَيَدْخُلُونَ

will enter

sayadkhulūna

جَهَنَّمَ

Hell

jahannama

دَاخِرِينَ

(in) humiliation

dākhirīna

٦٠

And your Lord says, "Call upon Me; I will respond to you." Indeed, those who disdain My worship will enter Hell [rendered] contemptible.

— Saheeh International

ٱللَّهُ

Allah

al-lahu

ٱلَّذِى

(is) the One Who

alladhī

جَعَلَ

made

jaʿala

لَكُمُ

for you

lakumu

ٱلَّيْلَ

the night

al-layla

لِتَسْكُنُوا۟

that you may rest

litaskunū

فِيهِ

in it

fīhi

وَٱلنَّهَارَ

and the day

wal-nahāra

مُبْصِرًا ۚ

giving visibility

mub'ṣiran

إِنَّ

Indeed

inna

ٱللَّهَ

Allah

l-laha

لَذُو

(is) Full (of) Bounty

ladhū

فَضْلٍ

(is) Full (of) Bounty

faḍlin

عَلَى

to

ʿalā

ٱلنَّاسِ

the people

l-nāsi

وَلَـٰكِنَّ

but

walākinna

أَكْثَرَ

most

akthara

ٱلنَّاسِ

(of) the people

l-nāsi

لَا

(do) not

يَشْكُرُونَ

give thanks

yashkurūna

٦١

It is Allāh who made for you the night that you may rest therein and the day giving sight.1 Indeed, Allāh is the possessor of bounty for the people, but most of them are not grateful.

— Saheeh International

ذَٰلِكُمُ

That

dhālikumu

ٱللَّهُ

(is) Allah

l-lahu

رَبُّكُمْ

your Lord

rabbukum

خَـٰلِقُ

(the) Creator

khāliqu

كُلِّ

(of) all

kulli

شَىْءٍۢ

things

shayin

لَّآ

(there is) no

إِلَـٰهَ

god

ilāha

إِلَّا

except

illā

هُوَ ۖ

Him

huwa

فَأَنَّىٰ

So how

fa-annā

تُؤْفَكُونَ

are you deluded

tu'fakūna

٦٢

That is Allāh, your Lord, Creator of all things; there is no deity except Him, so how are you deluded?

— Saheeh International

كَذَٰلِكَ

Thus

kadhālika

يُؤْفَكُ

were deluded

yu'faku

ٱلَّذِينَ

those who

alladhīna

كَانُوا۟

were

kānū

بِـَٔايَـٰتِ

(the) Signs

biāyāti

ٱللَّهِ

(of) Allah

l-lahi

يَجْحَدُونَ

rejecting

yajḥadūna

٦٣

Thus were those [before you] deluded who were rejecting the signs of Allāh.

— Saheeh International

ٱللَّهُ

Allah

al-lahu

ٱلَّذِى

(is) the One Who

alladhī

جَعَلَ

made

jaʿala

لَكُمُ

for you

lakumu

ٱلْأَرْضَ

the earth

l-arḍa

قَرَارًۭا

a place of settlement

qarāran

وَٱلسَّمَآءَ

and the sky

wal-samāa

بِنَآءًۭ

a canopy

bināan

وَصَوَّرَكُمْ

and He formed you

waṣawwarakum

فَأَحْسَنَ

and perfected

fa-aḥsana

صُوَرَكُمْ

your forms

ṣuwarakum

وَرَزَقَكُم

and provided you

warazaqakum

مِّنَ

of

mina

ٱلطَّيِّبَـٰتِ ۚ

the good things

l-ṭayibāti

ذَٰلِكُمُ

That

dhālikumu

ٱللَّهُ

(is) Allah

l-lahu

رَبُّكُمْ ۖ

your Lord

rabbukum

فَتَبَارَكَ

Then blessed (is)

fatabāraka

ٱللَّهُ

Allah

l-lahu

رَبُّ

(the) Lord

rabbu

ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ

(of) the worlds

l-ʿālamīna

٦٤

It is Allāh who made for you the earth a place of settlement and the sky a structure [i.e., ceiling] and formed you and perfected your forms and provided you with good things. That is Allāh, your Lord; then blessed is Allāh, Lord of the worlds.

— Saheeh International

هُوَ

He

huwa

ٱلْحَىُّ

(is) the Ever-Living

l-ḥayu

لَآ

(there is) no

إِلَـٰهَ

god

ilāha

إِلَّا

but

illā

هُوَ

He

huwa

فَٱدْعُوهُ

so call Him

fa-id'ʿūhu

مُخْلِصِينَ

(being) sincere

mukh'liṣīna

لَهُ

to Him

lahu

ٱلدِّينَ ۗ

(in) the religion

l-dīna

ٱلْحَمْدُ

All praise (be)

l-ḥamdu

لِلَّهِ

to Allah

lillahi

رَبِّ

(the) Lord

rabbi

ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ

(of) the worlds

l-ʿālamīna

٦٥

He is the Ever-Living;1 there is no deity except Him, so call upon Him, [being] sincere to Him in religion. [All] praise is [due] to Allāh, Lord of the worlds.

— Saheeh International

۞ قُلْ

Say

qul

إِنِّى

Indeed, I

innī

نُهِيتُ

[I] have been forbidden

nuhītu

أَنْ

to

an

أَعْبُدَ

worship

aʿbuda

ٱلَّذِينَ

those whom

alladhīna

تَدْعُونَ

you call

tadʿūna

مِن

besides

min

دُونِ

besides

dūni

ٱللَّهِ

Allah

l-lahi

لَمَّا

when

lammā

جَآءَنِىَ

have come to me

jāaniya

ٱلْبَيِّنَـٰتُ

the clear proofs

l-bayinātu

مِن

from

min

رَّبِّى

my Lord

rabbī

وَأُمِرْتُ

and I am commanded

wa-umir'tu

أَنْ

to

an

أُسْلِمَ

submit

us'lima

لِرَبِّ

to (the) Lord

lirabbi

ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ

(of) the worlds

l-ʿālamīna

٦٦

Say, [O Muḥammad], "Indeed, I have been forbidden to worship those you call upon besides Allāh once the clear proofs have come to me from my Lord, and I have been commanded to submit to the Lord of the worlds."

— Saheeh International

هُوَ

He

huwa

ٱلَّذِى

(is) the One Who

alladhī

خَلَقَكُم

created you

khalaqakum

مِّن

from

min

تُرَابٍۢ

dust

turābin

ثُمَّ

then

thumma

مِن

from

min

نُّطْفَةٍۢ

a semen-drop

nuṭ'fatin

ثُمَّ

then

thumma

مِنْ

from

min

عَلَقَةٍۢ

a clinging substance

ʿalaqatin

ثُمَّ

then

thumma

يُخْرِجُكُمْ

He brings you out

yukh'rijukum

طِفْلًۭا

(as) a child

ṭif'lan

ثُمَّ

then

thumma

لِتَبْلُغُوٓا۟

lets you reach

litablughū

أَشُدَّكُمْ

your maturity

ashuddakum

ثُمَّ

then

thumma

لِتَكُونُوا۟

lets you become

litakūnū

شُيُوخًۭا ۚ

old

shuyūkhan

وَمِنكُم

and among you

waminkum

مَّن

(is he) who

man

يُتَوَفَّىٰ

dies

yutawaffā

مِن

before

min

قَبْلُ ۖ

before

qablu

وَلِتَبْلُغُوٓا۟

and lets you reach

walitablughū

أَجَلًۭا

a term

ajalan

مُّسَمًّۭى

specified

musamman

وَلَعَلَّكُمْ

and that you may

walaʿallakum

تَعْقِلُونَ

use reason

taʿqilūna

٦٧

It is He who created you from dust, then from a sperm-drop, then from a clinging clot; then He brings you out as a child; then [He develops you] that you reach your [time of] maturity, then [further] that you become elders. And among you is he who is taken in death before [that], so that you reach a specified term;1 and perhaps you will use reason.

— Saheeh International

هُوَ

He

huwa

ٱلَّذِى

(is) the One Who

alladhī

يُحْىِۦ

gives life

yuḥ'yī

وَيُمِيتُ ۖ

and causes death

wayumītu

فَإِذَا

And when

fa-idhā

قَضَىٰٓ

He decrees

qaḍā

أَمْرًۭا

a matter

amran

فَإِنَّمَا

then only

fa-innamā

يَقُولُ

He says

yaqūlu

لَهُۥ

to it

lahu

كُن

Be

kun

فَيَكُونُ

and it is

fayakūnu

٦٨

He it is who gives life and causes death; and when He decrees a matter, He but says to it, "Be," and it is.

— Saheeh International

أَلَمْ

Do not

alam

تَرَ

you see

tara

إِلَى

[to]

ilā

ٱلَّذِينَ

those who

alladhīna

يُجَـٰدِلُونَ

dispute

yujādilūna

فِىٓ

concerning

ءَايَـٰتِ

(the) Signs

āyāti

ٱللَّهِ

(of) Allah

l-lahi

أَنَّىٰ

How

annā

يُصْرَفُونَ

they are turned away

yuṣ'rafūna

٦٩

Do you not consider those who dispute concerning the signs of Allāh - how are they averted?

— Saheeh International

ٱلَّذِينَ

Those who

alladhīna

كَذَّبُوا۟

deny

kadhabū

بِٱلْكِتَـٰبِ

the Book

bil-kitābi

وَبِمَآ

and with what

wabimā

أَرْسَلْنَا

We sent

arsalnā

بِهِۦ

with it

bihi

رُسُلَنَا ۖ

Our Messengers

rusulanā

فَسَوْفَ

but soon

fasawfa

يَعْلَمُونَ

they will know

yaʿlamūna

٧٠

Those who deny the Book [i.e., the Qur’ān] and that with which We sent Our messengers - they are going to know,

— Saheeh International

إِذِ

When

idhi

ٱلْأَغْلَـٰلُ

the iron collars

l-aghlālu

فِىٓ

(will be) around

أَعْنَـٰقِهِمْ

their necks

aʿnāqihim

وَٱلسَّلَـٰسِلُ

and the chains

wal-salāsilu

يُسْحَبُونَ

they will be dragged

yus'ḥabūna

٧١

When the shackles are around their necks and the chains; they will be dragged

— Saheeh International

فِى

In

ٱلْحَمِيمِ

the boiling water

l-ḥamīmi

ثُمَّ

then

thumma

فِى

in

ٱلنَّارِ

the Fire

l-nāri

يُسْجَرُونَ

they will be burned

yus'jarūna

٧٢

In boiling water; then in the Fire they will be filled [with flame].

— Saheeh International

ثُمَّ

Then

thumma

قِيلَ

it will be said

qīla

لَهُمْ

to them

lahum

أَيْنَ

Where

ayna

مَا

(is) that which

كُنتُمْ

you used to

kuntum

تُشْرِكُونَ

associate

tush'rikūna

٧٣

Then it will be said to them, "Where is that which you used to associate [with Him in worship]

— Saheeh International

مِن

Other than

min

دُونِ

Other than

dūni

ٱللَّهِ ۖ

Allah

l-lahi

قَالُوا۟

They will say

qālū

ضَلُّوا۟

They have departed

ḍallū

عَنَّا

from us

ʿannā

بَل

Nay

bal

لَّمْ

Not

lam

نَكُن

we used to

nakun

نَّدْعُوا۟

[we] call

nadʿū

مِن

before

min

قَبْلُ

before

qablu

شَيْـًۭٔا ۚ

anything

shayan

كَذَٰلِكَ

Thus

kadhālika

يُضِلُّ

Allah lets go astray

yuḍillu

ٱللَّهُ

Allah lets go astray

l-lahu

ٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَ

the disbelievers

l-kāfirīna

٧٤

Other than Allāh?" They will say, "They have departed from us; rather, we did not used to invoke previously anything." Thus does Allāh put astray the disbelievers.

— Saheeh International

ذَٰلِكُم

That was

dhālikum

بِمَا

because

bimā

كُنتُمْ

you used to

kuntum

تَفْرَحُونَ

rejoice

tafraḥūna

فِى

in

ٱلْأَرْضِ

the earth

l-arḍi

بِغَيْرِ

without

bighayri

ٱلْحَقِّ

right

l-ḥaqi

وَبِمَا

and because

wabimā

كُنتُمْ

you used to

kuntum

تَمْرَحُونَ

be insolent

tamraḥūna

٧٥

[The angels will say], "That was because you used to exult upon the earth without right and you used to behave insolently.

— Saheeh International

ٱدْخُلُوٓا۟

Enter

ud'khulū

أَبْوَٰبَ

(the) gates

abwāba

جَهَنَّمَ

(of) Hell

jahannama

خَـٰلِدِينَ

(to) abide forever

khālidīna

فِيهَا ۖ

in it

fīhā

فَبِئْسَ

and wretched is

fabi'sa

مَثْوَى

(the) abode

mathwā

ٱلْمُتَكَبِّرِينَ

(of) the arrogant

l-mutakabirīna

٧٦

Enter the gates of Hell to abide eternally therein, and wretched is the residence of the arrogant."

— Saheeh International

فَٱصْبِرْ

So be patient

fa-iṣ'bir

إِنَّ

indeed

inna

وَعْدَ

(the) Promise

waʿda

ٱللَّهِ

(of) Allah

l-lahi

حَقٌّۭ ۚ

(is) true

ḥaqqun

فَإِمَّا

And whether

fa-immā

نُرِيَنَّكَ

We show you

nuriyannaka

بَعْضَ

some

baʿḍa

ٱلَّذِى

(of) what

alladhī

نَعِدُهُمْ

We have promised them

naʿiduhum

أَوْ

or

aw

نَتَوَفَّيَنَّكَ

We cause you to die

natawaffayannaka

فَإِلَيْنَا

then to Us

fa-ilaynā

يُرْجَعُونَ

they will be returned

yur'jaʿūna

٧٧

So be patient, [O Muḥammad]; indeed, the promise of Allāh is truth. And whether We show you some of what We have promised them or We take you in death, it is to Us they will be returned.

— Saheeh International

وَلَقَدْ

And certainly

walaqad

أَرْسَلْنَا

We have sent

arsalnā

رُسُلًۭا

Messengers

rusulan

مِّن

before you

min

قَبْلِكَ

before you

qablika

مِنْهُم

Among them

min'hum

مَّن

(are) who

man

قَصَصْنَا

We have related

qaṣaṣnā

عَلَيْكَ

to you

ʿalayka

وَمِنْهُم

and among them

wamin'hum

مَّن

(are) who

man

لَّمْ

not

lam

نَقْصُصْ

We have related

naqṣuṣ

عَلَيْكَ ۗ

to you

ʿalayka

وَمَا

And not

wamā

كَانَ

is

kāna

لِرَسُولٍ

for any Messenger

lirasūlin

أَن

that

an

يَأْتِىَ

he brings

yatiya

بِـَٔايَةٍ

a Sign

biāyatin

إِلَّا

except

illā

بِإِذْنِ

by (the) permission

bi-idh'ni

ٱللَّهِ ۚ

(of) Allah

l-lahi

فَإِذَا

So when

fa-idhā

جَآءَ

comes

jāa

أَمْرُ

(the) Command

amru

ٱللَّهِ

(of) Allah

l-lahi

قُضِىَ

it will be decided

quḍiya

بِٱلْحَقِّ

in truth

bil-ḥaqi

وَخَسِرَ

and will lose

wakhasira

هُنَالِكَ

there

hunālika

ٱلْمُبْطِلُونَ

the falsifiers

l-mub'ṭilūna

٧٨

And We have already sent messengers before you. Among them are those [whose stories] We have related to you, and among them are those [whose stories] We have not related to you. And it was not for any messenger to bring a sign [or verse] except by permission of Allāh. So when the command of Allāh comes, it will be concluded [i.e., judged] in truth, and the falsifiers will thereupon lose [all].

— Saheeh International

ٱللَّهُ

Allah

al-lahu

ٱلَّذِى

(is) the One Who

alladhī

جَعَلَ

made

jaʿala

لَكُمُ

for you

lakumu

ٱلْأَنْعَـٰمَ

the cattle

l-anʿāma

لِتَرْكَبُوا۟

that you may ride

litarkabū

مِنْهَا

some of them

min'hā

وَمِنْهَا

and some of them

wamin'hā

تَأْكُلُونَ

you eat

takulūna

٧٩

It is Allāh who made for you the grazing animals upon which you ride, and some of them you eat.

— Saheeh International

وَلَكُمْ

And for you

walakum

فِيهَا

in them

fīhā

مَنَـٰفِعُ

(are) benefits

manāfiʿu

وَلِتَبْلُغُوا۟

and that you may reach

walitablughū

عَلَيْهَا

through them

ʿalayhā

حَاجَةًۭ

a need

ḥājatan

فِى

(that is) in

صُدُورِكُمْ

your breasts

ṣudūrikum

وَعَلَيْهَا

and upon them

waʿalayhā

وَعَلَى

and upon

waʿalā

ٱلْفُلْكِ

the ships

l-ful'ki

تُحْمَلُونَ

you are carried

tuḥ'malūna

٨٠

And for you therein are [other] benefits and that you may realize upon them a need which is in your breasts;1 and upon them and upon ships you are carried.

— Saheeh International

وَيُرِيكُمْ

And He shows you

wayurīkum

ءَايَـٰتِهِۦ

His Signs

āyātihi

فَأَىَّ

Then which

fa-ayya

ءَايَـٰتِ

(of the) Signs

āyāti

ٱللَّهِ

(of) Allah

l-lahi

تُنكِرُونَ

will you deny

tunkirūna

٨١

And He shows you His signs. So which of the signs of Allāh do you deny?

— Saheeh International

أَفَلَمْ

Do they not

afalam

يَسِيرُوا۟

travel

yasīrū

فِى

through

ٱلْأَرْضِ

the land

l-arḍi

فَيَنظُرُوا۟

and see

fayanẓurū

كَيْفَ

how

kayfa

كَانَ

was

kāna

عَـٰقِبَةُ

(the) end

ʿāqibatu

ٱلَّذِينَ

(of) those who

alladhīna

مِن

(were) before them

min

قَبْلِهِمْ ۚ

(were) before them

qablihim

كَانُوٓا۟

They were

kānū

أَكْثَرَ

more numerous

akthara

مِنْهُمْ

than them

min'hum

وَأَشَدَّ

and mightier

wa-ashadda

قُوَّةًۭ

(in) strength

quwwatan

وَءَاثَارًۭا

and impressions

waāthāran

فِى

in

ٱلْأَرْضِ

the land

l-arḍi

فَمَآ

but not

famā

أَغْنَىٰ

availed

aghnā

عَنْهُم

them

ʿanhum

مَّا

what

كَانُوا۟

they used to

kānū

يَكْسِبُونَ

earn

yaksibūna

٨٢

Have they not traveled through the land and observed how was the end of those before them? They were more numerous than themselves and greater in strength and in impression on the land, but they were not availed by what they used to earn.

— Saheeh International

فَلَمَّا

Then when

falammā

جَآءَتْهُمْ

came to them

jāathum

رُسُلُهُم

their Messengers

rusuluhum

بِٱلْبَيِّنَـٰتِ

with clear proofs

bil-bayināti

فَرِحُوا۟

they rejoiced

fariḥū

بِمَا

in what

bimā

عِندَهُم

they had

ʿindahum

مِّنَ

of

mina

ٱلْعِلْمِ

the knowledge

l-ʿil'mi

وَحَاقَ

and enveloped

waḥāqa

بِهِم

them

bihim

مَّا

what

كَانُوا۟

they used to

kānū

بِهِۦ

[at it]

bihi

يَسْتَهْزِءُونَ

mock

yastahziūna

٨٣

And when their messengers came to them with clear proofs, they [merely] rejoiced in what they had of knowledge, but they were enveloped by what they used to ridicule.

— Saheeh International

فَلَمَّا

So when

falammā

رَأَوْا۟

they saw

ra-aw

بَأْسَنَا

Our punishment

basanā

قَالُوٓا۟

they said

qālū

ءَامَنَّا

We believe

āmannā

بِٱللَّهِ

in Allah

bil-lahi

وَحْدَهُۥ

Alone

waḥdahu

وَكَفَرْنَا

and we disbelieve

wakafarnā

بِمَا

in what

bimā

كُنَّا

we used to

kunnā

بِهِۦ

with Him

bihi

مُشْرِكِينَ

associate

mush'rikīna

٨٤

And when they saw Our punishment, they said, "We believe in Allāh alone and disbelieve in that which we used to associate with Him."

— Saheeh International

فَلَمْ

But did not

falam

يَكُ

But did not

yaku

يَنفَعُهُمْ

benefit them

yanfaʿuhum

إِيمَـٰنُهُمْ

their faith

īmānuhum

لَمَّا

when

lammā

رَأَوْا۟

they saw

ra-aw

بَأْسَنَا ۖ

Our punishment

basanā

سُنَّتَ

(Such is the) Way

sunnata

ٱللَّهِ

(of) Allah

l-lahi

ٱلَّتِى

which

allatī

قَدْ

(has) indeed

qad

خَلَتْ

preceded

khalat

فِى

among

عِبَادِهِۦ ۖ

His slaves

ʿibādihi

وَخَسِرَ

And are lost

wakhasira

هُنَالِكَ

there

hunālika

ٱلْكَـٰفِرُونَ

the disbelievers

l-kāfirūna

٨٥

But never did their faith benefit them once they saw Our punishment. [It is] the established way of Allāh which has preceded among His servants. And the disbelievers thereupon lost [all].

— Saheeh International
