Al-Mu'minūn

The Believers

المؤمنون

قَدْ

Indeed

qad

أَفْلَحَ

successful

aflaḥa

ٱلْمُؤْمِنُونَ

(are) the believers

l-mu'minūna

١

Certainly will the believers have succeeded:

— Saheeh International

ٱلَّذِينَ

Those who

alladhīna

هُمْ

[they]

hum

فِى

during

صَلَاتِهِمْ

their prayers

ṣalātihim

خَـٰشِعُونَ

(are) humbly submissive

khāshiʿūna

٢

They who are during their prayer humbly intent

— Saheeh International

وَٱلَّذِينَ

Those who

wa-alladhīna

هُمْ

[they]

hum

عَنِ

from

ʿani

ٱللَّغْوِ

the vain talk

l-laghwi

مُعْرِضُونَ

turn away

muʿ'riḍūna

٣

And they who turn away from ill speech

— Saheeh International

وَٱلَّذِينَ

Those who

wa-alladhīna

هُمْ

[they]

hum

لِلزَّكَوٰةِ

of purification works

lilzzakati

فَـٰعِلُونَ

(are) doers

fāʿilūna

٤

And they who are observant of zakāh

— Saheeh International

وَٱلَّذِينَ

And those who

wa-alladhīna

هُمْ

[they]

hum

لِفُرُوجِهِمْ

of their modesty

lifurūjihim

حَـٰفِظُونَ

(are) guardians

ḥāfiẓūna

٥

And they who guard their private parts

— Saheeh International

إِلَّا

Except

illā

عَلَىٰٓ

from

ʿalā

أَزْوَٰجِهِمْ

their spouses

azwājihim

أَوْ

or

aw

مَا

what

مَلَكَتْ

possess

malakat

أَيْمَـٰنُهُمْ

their right hands

aymānuhum

فَإِنَّهُمْ

then indeed, they

fa-innahum

غَيْرُ

(are) not

ghayru

مَلُومِينَ

blameworthy

malūmīna

٦

Except from their wives or those their right hands possess,1 for indeed, they will not be blamed -

— Saheeh International

فَمَنِ

Then whoever

famani

ٱبْتَغَىٰ

seeks

ib'taghā

وَرَآءَ

beyond

warāa

ذَٰلِكَ

that

dhālika

فَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ

then those

fa-ulāika

هُمُ

[they]

humu

ٱلْعَادُونَ

(are) the transgressors

l-ʿādūna

٧

But whoever seeks beyond that, then those are the transgressors -

— Saheeh International

وَٱلَّذِينَ

And those who

wa-alladhīna

هُمْ

[they]

hum

لِأَمَـٰنَـٰتِهِمْ

of their trusts

li-amānātihim

وَعَهْدِهِمْ

and their promise(s)

waʿahdihim

رَٰعُونَ

(are) observers

rāʿūna

٨

And they who are to their trusts and their promises attentive

— Saheeh International

وَٱلَّذِينَ

And those who

wa-alladhīna

هُمْ

[they]

hum

عَلَىٰ

over

ʿalā

صَلَوَٰتِهِمْ

their prayers

ṣalawātihim

يُحَافِظُونَ

they guard

yuḥāfiẓūna

٩

And they who carefully maintain their prayers -

— Saheeh International

أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ

Those

ulāika

هُمُ

[they]

humu

ٱلْوَٰرِثُونَ

(are) the inheritors

l-wārithūna

١٠

Those are the inheritors

— Saheeh International

ٱلَّذِينَ

Who

alladhīna

يَرِثُونَ

will inherit

yarithūna

ٱلْفِرْدَوْسَ

the Paradise

l-fir'dawsa

هُمْ

They

hum

فِيهَا

therein

fīhā

خَـٰلِدُونَ

(will) abide forever

khālidūna

١١

Who will inherit al-Firdaus.1 They will abide therein eternally.

— Saheeh International

وَلَقَدْ

And indeed

walaqad

خَلَقْنَا

We created

khalaqnā

ٱلْإِنسَـٰنَ

the humankind

l-insāna

مِن

from

min

سُلَـٰلَةٍۢ

an essence

sulālatin

مِّن

of

min

طِينٍۢ

clay

ṭīnin

١٢

And certainly did We create man from an extract of clay.

— Saheeh International

ثُمَّ

Then

thumma

جَعَلْنَـٰهُ

We placed him

jaʿalnāhu

نُطْفَةًۭ

(as) a semen-drop

nuṭ'fatan

فِى

in

قَرَارٍۢ

a resting place

qarārin

مَّكِينٍۢ

firm

makīnin

١٣

Then We placed him as a sperm-drop1 in a firm lodging [i.e., the womb].

— Saheeh International

ثُمَّ

Then

thumma

خَلَقْنَا

We created

khalaqnā

ٱلنُّطْفَةَ

the semen-drop

l-nuṭ'fata

عَلَقَةًۭ

(into) a clinging substance

ʿalaqatan

فَخَلَقْنَا

then We created

fakhalaqnā

ٱلْعَلَقَةَ

the clinging substance

l-ʿalaqata

مُضْغَةًۭ

(into) an embryonic lump

muḍ'ghatan

فَخَلَقْنَا

then We created

fakhalaqnā

ٱلْمُضْغَةَ

the embryonic lump

l-muḍ'ghata

عِظَـٰمًۭا

(into) bones

ʿiẓāman

فَكَسَوْنَا

then We clothed

fakasawnā

ٱلْعِظَـٰمَ

the bones

l-ʿiẓāma

لَحْمًۭا

(with) flesh

laḥman

ثُمَّ

then

thumma

أَنشَأْنَـٰهُ

We produce it

anshanāhu

خَلْقًا

(as) a creation

khalqan

ءَاخَرَ ۚ

another

ākhara

فَتَبَارَكَ

So blessed is

fatabāraka

ٱللَّهُ

Allah

l-lahu

أَحْسَنُ

(the) Best

aḥsanu

ٱلْخَـٰلِقِينَ

(of) the Creators

l-khāliqīna

١٤

Then We made the sperm-drop into a clinging clot, and We made the clot into a lump [of flesh], and We made [from] the lump, bones, and We covered the bones with flesh; then We developed him into another creation. So blessed is Allāh, the best of creators.1

— Saheeh International

ثُمَّ

Then

thumma

إِنَّكُم

indeed, you

innakum

بَعْدَ

after

baʿda

ذَٰلِكَ

that

dhālika

لَمَيِّتُونَ

surely (will) die

lamayyitūna

١٥

Then indeed, after that you are to die.

— Saheeh International

ثُمَّ

Then

thumma

إِنَّكُمْ

indeed, you

innakum

يَوْمَ

(on the) Day

yawma

ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ

(of) the Resurrection

l-qiyāmati

تُبْعَثُونَ

will be resurrected

tub'ʿathūna

١٦

Then indeed you, on the Day of Resurrection, will be resurrected.

— Saheeh International

وَلَقَدْ

And indeed

walaqad

خَلَقْنَا

We (have) created

khalaqnā

فَوْقَكُمْ

above you

fawqakum

سَبْعَ

seven

sabʿa

طَرَآئِقَ

paths

ṭarāiqa

وَمَا

and not

wamā

كُنَّا

We are

kunnā

عَنِ

of

ʿani

ٱلْخَلْقِ

the creation

l-khalqi

غَـٰفِلِينَ

unaware

ghāfilīna

١٧

And We have created above you seven layered heavens, and never have We been of [Our] creation unaware.

— Saheeh International

وَأَنزَلْنَا

And We send down

wa-anzalnā

مِنَ

from

mina

ٱلسَّمَآءِ

the sky

l-samāi

مَآءًۢ

water

māan

بِقَدَرٍۢ

in (due) measure

biqadarin

فَأَسْكَنَّـٰهُ

then We cause it to settle

fa-askannāhu

فِى

in

ٱلْأَرْضِ ۖ

the earth

l-arḍi

وَإِنَّا

And indeed, We

wa-innā

عَلَىٰ

on

ʿalā

ذَهَابٍۭ

taking it away

dhahābin

بِهِۦ

taking it away

bihi

لَقَـٰدِرُونَ

surely (are) Able

laqādirūna

١٨

And We have sent down rain from the sky in a measured amount and settled it in the earth. And indeed, We are Able to take it away.

— Saheeh International

فَأَنشَأْنَا

Then We produced

fa-anshanā

لَكُم

for you

lakum

بِهِۦ

by it

bihi

جَنَّـٰتٍۢ

gardens

jannātin

مِّن

of date-palms

min

نَّخِيلٍۢ

of date-palms

nakhīlin

وَأَعْنَـٰبٍۢ

and grapevines

wa-aʿnābin

لَّكُمْ

for you

lakum

فِيهَا

in it

fīhā

فَوَٰكِهُ

(are) fruits

fawākihu

كَثِيرَةٌۭ

abundant

kathīratun

وَمِنْهَا

and from them

wamin'hā

تَأْكُلُونَ

you eat

takulūna

١٩

And We brought forth for you thereby gardens of palm trees and grapevines in which for you are abundant fruits and from which you eat.

— Saheeh International

وَشَجَرَةًۭ

And a tree

washajaratan

تَخْرُجُ

(that) springs forth

takhruju

مِن

from

min

طُورِ

Mount Sinai

ṭūri

سَيْنَآءَ

Mount Sinai

saynāa

تَنۢبُتُ

(which) produces

tanbutu

بِٱلدُّهْنِ

oil

bil-duh'ni

وَصِبْغٍۢ

and a relish

waṣib'ghin

لِّلْـَٔاكِلِينَ

for those who eat

lil'ākilīna

٢٠

And [We brought forth] a tree issuing from Mount Sinai which produces oil and food [i.e., olives] for those who eat.

— Saheeh International

وَإِنَّ

And indeed

wa-inna

لَكُمْ

for you

lakum

فِى

in

ٱلْأَنْعَـٰمِ

the cattle

l-anʿāmi

لَعِبْرَةًۭ ۖ

surely, (is) a lesson

laʿib'ratan

نُّسْقِيكُم

We give you drink

nus'qīkum

مِّمَّا

from what

mimmā

فِى

(is) in

بُطُونِهَا

their bellies

buṭūnihā

وَلَكُمْ

and for you

walakum

فِيهَا

in them

fīhā

مَنَـٰفِعُ

(are) benefits

manāfiʿu

كَثِيرَةٌۭ

many

kathīratun

وَمِنْهَا

and of them

wamin'hā

تَأْكُلُونَ

you eat

takulūna

٢١

And indeed, for you in livestock is a lesson. We give you drink from that which is in their bellies, and for you in them are numerous benefits, and from them you eat.

— Saheeh International

وَعَلَيْهَا

And on them

waʿalayhā

وَعَلَى

and on

waʿalā

ٱلْفُلْكِ

[the] ships

l-ful'ki

تُحْمَلُونَ

you are carried

tuḥ'malūna

٢٢

And upon them and on ships you are carried.

— Saheeh International

وَلَقَدْ

And verily

walaqad

أَرْسَلْنَا

We sent

arsalnā

نُوحًا

Nuh

nūḥan

إِلَىٰ

to

ilā

قَوْمِهِۦ

his people

qawmihi

فَقَالَ

and he said

faqāla

يَـٰقَوْمِ

O my people

yāqawmi

ٱعْبُدُوا۟

Worship

uʿ'budū

ٱللَّهَ

Allah

l-laha

مَا

not

لَكُم

for you

lakum

مِّنْ

(is) any

min

إِلَـٰهٍ

god

ilāhin

غَيْرُهُۥٓ ۖ

other than Him

ghayruhu

أَفَلَا

Then will not

afalā

تَتَّقُونَ

you fear

tattaqūna

٢٣

And We had certainly sent Noah to his people, and he said, "O my people, worship Allāh; you have no deity other than Him; then will you not fear Him?"

— Saheeh International

فَقَالَ

But said

faqāla

ٱلْمَلَؤُا۟

the chiefs

l-mala-u

ٱلَّذِينَ

(of) those who

alladhīna

كَفَرُوا۟

disbelieved

kafarū

مِن

among

min

قَوْمِهِۦ

his people

qawmihi

مَا

This is not

هَـٰذَآ

This is not

hādhā

إِلَّا

but

illā

بَشَرٌۭ

a man

basharun

مِّثْلُكُمْ

like you

mith'lukum

يُرِيدُ

he wishes

yurīdu

أَن

to

an

يَتَفَضَّلَ

assert (his) superiority

yatafaḍḍala

عَلَيْكُمْ

over you

ʿalaykum

وَلَوْ

and if

walaw

شَآءَ

Allah had willed

shāa

ٱللَّهُ

Allah had willed

l-lahu

لَأَنزَلَ

surely He (would have) sent down

la-anzala

مَلَـٰٓئِكَةًۭ

Angels

malāikatan

مَّا

Not

سَمِعْنَا

we heard

samiʿ'nā

بِهَـٰذَا

of this

bihādhā

فِىٓ

from

ءَابَآئِنَا

our forefathers

ābāinā

ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ

our forefathers

l-awalīna

٢٤

But the eminent among those who disbelieved from his people said, "This is not but a man like yourselves who wishes to take precedence over you; and if Allāh had willed [to send a messenger], He would have sent down angels. We have not heard of this among our forefathers.

— Saheeh International

إِنْ

Not

in

هُوَ

he

huwa

إِلَّا

(is) but

illā

رَجُلٌۢ

a man

rajulun

بِهِۦ

in him

bihi

جِنَّةٌۭ

(is) madness

jinnatun

فَتَرَبَّصُوا۟

so wait

fatarabbaṣū

بِهِۦ

concerning him

bihi

حَتَّىٰ

until

ḥattā

حِينٍۢ

a time

ḥīnin

٢٥

He is not but a man possessed with madness, so wait concerning him for a time."

— Saheeh International

قَالَ

He said

qāla

رَبِّ

My Lord

rabbi

ٱنصُرْنِى

Help me

unṣur'nī

بِمَا

because

bimā

كَذَّبُونِ

they deny me

kadhabūni

٢٦

[Noah] said, "My Lord, support me because they have denied me."

— Saheeh International

فَأَوْحَيْنَآ

So We inspired

fa-awḥaynā

إِلَيْهِ

to him

ilayhi

أَنِ

That

ani

ٱصْنَعِ

construct

iṣ'naʿi

ٱلْفُلْكَ

the ship

l-ful'ka

بِأَعْيُنِنَا

under Our eyes

bi-aʿyuninā

وَوَحْيِنَا

and Our inspiration

wawaḥyinā

فَإِذَا

then when

fa-idhā

جَآءَ

comes

jāa

أَمْرُنَا

Our Command

amrunā

وَفَارَ

and gushes forth

wafāra

ٱلتَّنُّورُ ۙ

the oven

l-tanūru

فَٱسْلُكْ

then put

fa-us'luk

فِيهَا

into it

fīhā

مِن

of

min

كُلٍّۢ

every (kind)

kullin

زَوْجَيْنِ

(of) mates

zawjayni

ٱثْنَيْنِ

two

ith'nayni

وَأَهْلَكَ

and your family

wa-ahlaka

إِلَّا

except

illā

مَن

those

man

سَبَقَ

(has) preceded

sabaqa

عَلَيْهِ

against whom

ʿalayhi

ٱلْقَوْلُ

the Word

l-qawlu

مِنْهُمْ ۖ

thereof

min'hum

وَلَا

And (do) not

walā

تُخَـٰطِبْنِى

address Me

tukhāṭib'nī

فِى

concerning

ٱلَّذِينَ

those who

alladhīna

ظَلَمُوٓا۟ ۖ

wronged

ẓalamū

إِنَّهُم

indeed, they

innahum

مُّغْرَقُونَ

(are) the ones to be drowned

mugh'raqūna

٢٧

So We inspired to him, "Construct the ship under Our observation and Our inspiration, and when Our command comes and the oven overflows,1 put into it [i.e., the ship] from each [creature] two mates and your family, except him for whom the decree [of destruction] has proceeded. And do not address Me concerning those who have wronged; indeed, they are to be drowned.

— Saheeh International

فَإِذَا

And when

fa-idhā

ٱسْتَوَيْتَ

you (have) boarded

is'tawayta

أَنتَ

you

anta

وَمَن

and whoever

waman

مَّعَكَ

(is) with you

maʿaka

عَلَى

[on]

ʿalā

ٱلْفُلْكِ

the ship

l-ful'ki

فَقُلِ

then say

faquli

ٱلْحَمْدُ

Praise

l-ḥamdu

لِلَّهِ

(be) to Allah

lillahi

ٱلَّذِى

Who

alladhī

نَجَّىٰنَا

(has) saved us

najjānā

مِنَ

from

mina

ٱلْقَوْمِ

the people

l-qawmi

ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ

the wrongdoers

l-ẓālimīna

٢٨

And when you have boarded the ship, you and those with you, then say, 'Praise to Allāh who has saved us from the wrongdoing people.'

— Saheeh International

وَقُل

And say

waqul

رَّبِّ

My Lord

rabbi

أَنزِلْنِى

cause me to land

anzil'nī

مُنزَلًۭا

(at) a landing place

munzalan

مُّبَارَكًۭا

blessed

mubārakan

وَأَنتَ

and You

wa-anta

خَيْرُ

(are) the Best

khayru

ٱلْمُنزِلِينَ

(of) those who cause to land.'

l-munzilīna

٢٩

And say, 'My Lord, let me land at a blessed landing place, and You are the best to accommodate [us].'"

— Saheeh International

إِنَّ

Indeed

inna

فِى

in

ذَٰلِكَ

that

dhālika

لَـَٔايَـٰتٍۢ

surely (are) Signs

laāyātin

وَإِن

and indeed

wa-in

كُنَّا

We are

kunnā

لَمُبْتَلِينَ

surely testing

lamub'talīna

٣٠

Indeed in that are signs, and indeed, We are ever testing [Our servants].

— Saheeh International

ثُمَّ

Then

thumma

أَنشَأْنَا

We produced

anshanā

مِنۢ

after them

min

بَعْدِهِمْ

after them

baʿdihim

قَرْنًا

a generation

qarnan

ءَاخَرِينَ

another

ākharīna

٣١

Then We produced after them a generation of others.

— Saheeh International

فَأَرْسَلْنَا

And We sent

fa-arsalnā

فِيهِمْ

among them

fīhim

رَسُولًۭا

a Messenger

rasūlan

مِّنْهُمْ

from themselves

min'hum

أَنِ

[that]

ani

ٱعْبُدُوا۟

Worship

uʿ'budū

ٱللَّهَ

Allah

l-laha

مَا

not

لَكُم

for you

lakum

مِّنْ

(is) any

min

إِلَـٰهٍ

god

ilāhin

غَيْرُهُۥٓ ۖ

other than Him

ghayruhu

أَفَلَا

Then will not

afalā

تَتَّقُونَ

you fear

tattaqūna

٣٢

And We sent among them a messenger1 from themselves, [saying], "Worship Allāh; you have no deity other than Him; then will you not fear Him?"

— Saheeh International

وَقَالَ

And said

waqāla

ٱلْمَلَأُ

the chiefs

l-mala-u

مِن

of

min

قَوْمِهِ

his people

qawmihi

ٱلَّذِينَ

who

alladhīna

كَفَرُوا۟

disbelieved

kafarū

وَكَذَّبُوا۟

and denied

wakadhabū

بِلِقَآءِ

(the) meeting

biliqāi

ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ

(of) the Hereafter

l-ākhirati

وَأَتْرَفْنَـٰهُمْ

while We had given them luxury

wa-atrafnāhum

فِى

in

ٱلْحَيَوٰةِ

the life

l-ḥayati

ٱلدُّنْيَا

(of) the world

l-dun'yā

مَا

Not

هَـٰذَآ

(is) this

hādhā

إِلَّا

but

illā

بَشَرٌۭ

a man

basharun

مِّثْلُكُمْ

like you

يَأْكُلُ

He eats

yakulu

مِمَّا

تَأْكُلُونَ

you eat

مِنْهُ

[from it]

min'hu

وَيَشْرَبُ

and he drinks

wayashrabu

مِمَّا

of what

mimmā

تَشْرَبُونَ

you drink

tashrabūna

٣٣

And the eminent among his people who disbelieved and denied the meeting of the Hereafter while We had given them luxury in the worldly life said, "This is not but a man like yourselves. He eats of that from which you eat and drinks of what you drink.

— Saheeh International

وَلَئِنْ

And surely if

wala-in

أَطَعْتُم

you obey

aṭaʿtum

بَشَرًۭا

a man

basharan

مِّثْلَكُمْ

like you

mith'lakum

إِنَّكُمْ

indeed, you

innakum

إِذًۭا

then

idhan

لَّخَـٰسِرُونَ

surely (will be) losers

lakhāsirūna

٣٤

And if you should obey a man like yourselves, indeed, you would then be losers.

— Saheeh International

أَيَعِدُكُمْ

Does he promise you

ayaʿidukum

أَنَّكُمْ

that you

annakum

إِذَا

when

idhā

مِتُّمْ

you are dead

mittum

وَكُنتُمْ

and you become

wakuntum

تُرَابًۭا

dust

turāban

وَعِظَـٰمًا

and bones

waʿiẓāman

أَنَّكُم

that you

annakum

مُّخْرَجُونَ

(will be) brought forth

mukh'rajūna

٣٥

Does he promise you that when you have died and become dust and bones that you will be brought forth [once more]?

— Saheeh International

۞ هَيْهَاتَ

Far-(fetched)

hayhāta

هَيْهَاتَ

far-(fetched)

hayhāta

لِمَا

is what

limā

تُوعَدُونَ

you are promised

tūʿadūna

٣٦

How far, how far, is that which you are promised.1

— Saheeh International

إِنْ

Not

in

هِىَ

it

hiya

إِلَّا

(is) but

illā

حَيَاتُنَا

our life

ḥayātunā

ٱلدُّنْيَا

(of) the world

l-dun'yā

نَمُوتُ

we die

namūtu

وَنَحْيَا

and we live

wanaḥyā

وَمَا

and not

wamā

نَحْنُ

we

naḥnu

بِمَبْعُوثِينَ

(will be) resurrected

bimabʿūthīna

٣٧

It [i.e., life] is not but our worldly life - we die and live, but we will not be resurrected.

— Saheeh International

إِنْ

Not

in

هُوَ

(is) he

huwa

إِلَّا

but

illā

رَجُلٌ

a man

rajulun

ٱفْتَرَىٰ

who (has) invented

if'tarā

عَلَى

about

ʿalā

ٱللَّهِ

Allah

l-lahi

كَذِبًۭا

a lie

kadhiban

وَمَا

and not

wamā

نَحْنُ

we

naḥnu

لَهُۥ

(in) him

lahu

بِمُؤْمِنِينَ

(are) believers

bimu'minīna

٣٨

He is not but a man who has invented a lie about Allāh, and we will not believe him."

— Saheeh International

قَالَ

He said

qāla

رَبِّ

My Lord

rabbi

ٱنصُرْنِى

Help me

unṣur'nī

بِمَا

because

bimā

كَذَّبُونِ

they deny me

kadhabūni

٣٩

He said, "My Lord, support me because they have denied me."

— Saheeh International

قَالَ

He said

qāla

عَمَّا

After a little while

ʿammā

قَلِيلٍۢ

After a little while

qalīlin

لَّيُصْبِحُنَّ

surely they will become

layuṣ'biḥunna

نَـٰدِمِينَ

regretful

nādimīna

٤٠

[Allāh] said, "After a little, they will surely become regretful."

— Saheeh International

فَأَخَذَتْهُمُ

So seized them

fa-akhadhathumu

ٱلصَّيْحَةُ

the awful cry

l-ṣayḥatu

بِٱلْحَقِّ

in truth

bil-ḥaqi

فَجَعَلْنَـٰهُمْ

and We made them

fajaʿalnāhum

غُثَآءًۭ ۚ

(as) rubbish of dead leaves

ghuthāan

فَبُعْدًۭا

So away

fabuʿ'dan

لِّلْقَوْمِ

with the people

lil'qawmi

ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ

the wrongdoers

l-ẓālimīna

٤١

So the shriek1 seized them in truth,2 and We made them as [plant] stubble. Then away with the wrongdoing people.

— Saheeh International

ثُمَّ

Then

thumma

أَنشَأْنَا

We produced

anshanā

مِنۢ

after them

min

بَعْدِهِمْ

after them

baʿdihim

قُرُونًا

a generation

qurūnan

ءَاخَرِينَ

another

ākharīna

٤٢

Then We produced after them other generations.

— Saheeh International

مَا

Not

تَسْبِقُ

can precede

tasbiqu

مِنْ

any

min

أُمَّةٍ

nation

ummatin

أَجَلَهَا

its term

ajalahā

وَمَا

and not

wamā

يَسْتَـْٔخِرُونَ

they (can) delay (it)

yastakhirūna

٤٣

No nation will precede its time [of termination], nor will they remain [thereafter].

— Saheeh International

ثُمَّ

Then

thumma

أَرْسَلْنَا

We sent

arsalnā

رُسُلَنَا

Our Messengers

rusulanā

تَتْرَا ۖ

(in) succession

tatrā

كُلَّ

Every time

kulla

مَا

Every time

جَآءَ

came

jāa

أُمَّةًۭ

(to) a nation

ummatan

رَّسُولُهَا

its Messenger

rasūluhā

كَذَّبُوهُ ۚ

they denied him

kadhabūhu

فَأَتْبَعْنَا

so We made (them) follow

fa-atbaʿnā

بَعْضَهُم

some of them

baʿḍahum

بَعْضًۭا

others

baʿḍan

وَجَعَلْنَـٰهُمْ

and We made them

wajaʿalnāhum

أَحَادِيثَ ۚ

narrations

aḥādītha

فَبُعْدًۭا

So away

fabuʿ'dan

لِّقَوْمٍۢ

with a people

liqawmin

لَّا

not

يُؤْمِنُونَ

they believe

yu'minūna

٤٤

Then We sent Our messengers in succession. Every time there came to a nation its messenger, they denied him, so We made them follow one another [to destruction], and We made them narrations.1 So away with a people who do not believe.

— Saheeh International

ثُمَّ

Then

thumma

أَرْسَلْنَا

We sent

arsalnā

مُوسَىٰ

Musa

mūsā

وَأَخَاهُ

and his brother

wa-akhāhu

هَـٰرُونَ

Harun

hārūna

بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَا

with Our Signs

biāyātinā

وَسُلْطَـٰنٍۢ

and an authority

wasul'ṭānin

مُّبِينٍ

clear

mubīnin

٤٥

Then We sent Moses and his brother Aaron with Our signs and a clear authority1

— Saheeh International

إِلَىٰ

To

ilā

فِرْعَوْنَ

Firaun

fir'ʿawna

وَمَلَإِي۟هِۦ

and his chiefs

wamala-ihi

فَٱسْتَكْبَرُوا۟

but they behaved arrogantly

fa-is'takbarū

وَكَانُوا۟

and they were

wakānū

قَوْمًا

a people

qawman

عَالِينَ

haughty

ʿālīna

٤٦

To Pharaoh and his establishment, but they were arrogant and were a haughty people.

— Saheeh International

فَقَالُوٓا۟

Then they said

faqālū

أَنُؤْمِنُ

Shall we believe

anu'minu

لِبَشَرَيْنِ

(in) two men

libasharayni

مِثْلِنَا

like ourselves

mith'linā

وَقَوْمُهُمَا

while their people

waqawmuhumā

لَنَا

for us

lanā

عَـٰبِدُونَ

(are) slaves

ʿābidūna

٤٧

They said, "Should we believe two men like ourselves while their people are for us in servitude?"

— Saheeh International

فَكَذَّبُوهُمَا

So they denied them

fakadhabūhumā

فَكَانُوا۟

and they became

fakānū

مِنَ

of

mina

ٱلْمُهْلَكِينَ

those who were destroyed

l-muh'lakīna

٤٨

So they denied them and were of those destroyed.

— Saheeh International

وَلَقَدْ

And verily

walaqad

ءَاتَيْنَا

We gave

ātaynā

مُوسَى

Musa

mūsā

ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ

the Scripture

l-kitāba

لَعَلَّهُمْ

so that they may

laʿallahum

يَهْتَدُونَ

be guided

yahtadūna

٤٩

And We certainly gave Moses the Scripture that perhaps they1 would be guided.

— Saheeh International

وَجَعَلْنَا

And We made

wajaʿalnā

ٱبْنَ

(the) son

ib'na

مَرْيَمَ

(of) Maryam

maryama

وَأُمَّهُۥٓ

and his mother

wa-ummahu

ءَايَةًۭ

a Sign

āyatan

وَءَاوَيْنَـٰهُمَآ

and We sheltered them

waāwaynāhumā

إِلَىٰ

to

ilā

رَبْوَةٍۢ

a high ground

rabwatin

ذَاتِ

of tranquility

dhāti

قَرَارٍۢ

of tranquility

qarārin

وَمَعِينٍۢ

and water springs

wamaʿīnin

٥٠

And We made the son of Mary and his mother a sign and sheltered them within a high ground having level [areas] and flowing water.

— Saheeh International

يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا

O Messengers

yāayyuhā

ٱلرُّسُلُ

O Messengers

l-rusulu

كُلُوا۟

Eat

kulū

مِنَ

of

mina

ٱلطَّيِّبَـٰتِ

the good things

l-ṭayibāti

وَٱعْمَلُوا۟

and do

wa-iʿ'malū

صَـٰلِحًا ۖ

righteous (deeds)

ṣāliḥan

إِنِّى

Indeed, I Am

innī

بِمَا

of what

bimā

تَعْمَلُونَ

you do

taʿmalūna

عَلِيمٌۭ

All-Knower

ʿalīmun

٥١

[Allāh said], "O messengers, eat from the good foods and work righteousness. Indeed I, of what you do, am Knowing.

— Saheeh International

وَإِنَّ

And indeed

wa-inna

هَـٰذِهِۦٓ

this

hādhihi

أُمَّتُكُمْ

your religion

ummatukum

أُمَّةًۭ

(is) religion

ummatan

وَٰحِدَةًۭ

one

wāḥidatan

وَأَنَا۠

And I Am

wa-anā

رَبُّكُمْ

your Lord

rabbukum

فَٱتَّقُونِ

so fear Me

fa-ittaqūni

٥٢

And indeed this, your religion, is one religion,1 and I am your Lord, so fear Me."

— Saheeh International

فَتَقَطَّعُوٓا۟

But they cut off

fataqaṭṭaʿū

أَمْرَهُم

their affair (of unity)

amrahum

بَيْنَهُمْ

between them

baynahum

زُبُرًۭا ۖ

(into) sects

zuburan

كُلُّ

each

kullu

حِزْبٍۭ

faction

ḥiz'bin

بِمَا

in what

bimā

لَدَيْهِمْ

they have

ladayhim

فَرِحُونَ

rejoicing

fariḥūna

٥٣

But they [i.e., the people] divided their religion among them into portions [i.e., sects] - each faction, in what it has,1 rejoicing.

— Saheeh International

فَذَرْهُمْ

So leave them

fadharhum

فِى

in

غَمْرَتِهِمْ

their confusion

ghamratihim

حَتَّىٰ

until

ḥattā

حِينٍ

a time

ḥīnin

٥٤

So leave them in their confusion for a time.

— Saheeh International

أَيَحْسَبُونَ

Do they think

ayaḥsabūna

أَنَّمَا

that what

annamā

نُمِدُّهُم

We extend to them

numidduhum

بِهِۦ

[with it]

bihi

مِن

of

min

مَّالٍۢ

wealth

mālin

وَبَنِينَ

and children

wabanīna

٥٥

Do they think that what We extend to them of wealth and children

— Saheeh International

نُسَارِعُ

We hasten

nusāriʿu

لَهُمْ

to them

lahum

فِى

in

ٱلْخَيْرَٰتِ ۚ

the good

l-khayrāti

بَل

Nay

bal

لَّا

not

يَشْعُرُونَ

they perceive

yashʿurūna

٥٦

Is [because] We hasten for them good things? Rather, they do not perceive.1

— Saheeh International

إِنَّ

Indeed

inna

ٱلَّذِينَ

those who

alladhīna

هُم

[they]

hum

مِّنْ

from

min

خَشْيَةِ

(the) fear

khashyati

رَبِّهِم

(of) their Lord

rabbihim

مُّشْفِقُونَ

(are) cautious

mush'fiqūna

٥٧

Indeed, they who are apprehensive from fear of their Lord

— Saheeh International

وَٱلَّذِينَ

And those

wa-alladhīna

هُم

[they]

hum

بِـَٔايَـٰتِ

in (the) Signs

biāyāti

رَبِّهِمْ

(of) their Lord

rabbihim

يُؤْمِنُونَ

believe

yu'minūna

٥٨

And they who believe in the signs of their Lord

— Saheeh International

وَٱلَّذِينَ

And those

wa-alladhīna

هُم

[they]

hum

بِرَبِّهِمْ

with their Lord

birabbihim

لَا

(do) not

يُشْرِكُونَ

associate partners

yush'rikūna

٥٩

And they who do not associate anything with their Lord

— Saheeh International

وَٱلَّذِينَ

And those who

wa-alladhīna

يُؤْتُونَ

give

yu'tūna

مَآ

what

ءَاتَوا۟

they give

ātaw

وَّقُلُوبُهُمْ

while their hearts

waqulūbuhum

وَجِلَةٌ

(are) fearful

wajilatun

أَنَّهُمْ

because they

annahum

إِلَىٰ

to

ilā

رَبِّهِمْ

their Lord

rabbihim

رَٰجِعُونَ

(will) return

rājiʿūna

٦٠

And they who give what they give while their hearts are fearful1 because they will be returning to their Lord -

— Saheeh International

أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ

(It is) those

ulāika

يُسَـٰرِعُونَ

who hasten

yusāriʿūna

فِى

in

ٱلْخَيْرَٰتِ

the good (deeds)

l-khayrāti

وَهُمْ

and they

wahum

لَهَا

in them

lahā

سَـٰبِقُونَ

(are) foremost

sābiqūna

٦١

It is those who hasten to good deeds, and they outstrip [others] therein.

— Saheeh International

وَلَا

And not

walā

نُكَلِّفُ

We burden

nukallifu

نَفْسًا

any soul

nafsan

إِلَّا

except

illā

وُسْعَهَا ۖ

(to) its capacity

wus'ʿahā

وَلَدَيْنَا

and with Us

waladaynā

كِتَـٰبٌۭ

(is) a Record

kitābun

يَنطِقُ

(which) speaks

yanṭiqu

بِٱلْحَقِّ ۚ

with the truth

bil-ḥaqi

وَهُمْ

and they

wahum

لَا

(will) not

يُظْلَمُونَ

be wronged

yuẓ'lamūna

٦٢

And We charge no soul except [with that within] its capacity, and with Us is a record which speaks with truth; and they will not be wronged.

— Saheeh International

بَلْ

Nay

bal

قُلُوبُهُمْ

their hearts

qulūbuhum

فِى

(are) in

غَمْرَةٍۢ

confusion

ghamratin

مِّنْ

over

min

هَـٰذَا

this

hādhā

وَلَهُمْ

and for them

walahum

أَعْمَـٰلٌۭ

(are) deeds

aʿmālun

مِّن

besides

min

دُونِ

besides

dūni

ذَٰلِكَ

that

dhālika

هُمْ

they

hum

لَهَا

for it

lahā

عَـٰمِلُونَ

(are) doers

ʿāmilūna

٦٣

But their hearts are covered with confusion over this, and they have [evil] deeds besides that [i.e., disbelief] which they are doing,

— Saheeh International

حَتَّىٰٓ

Until

ḥattā

إِذَآ

when

idhā

أَخَذْنَا

We seize

akhadhnā

مُتْرَفِيهِم

their affluent ones

mut'rafīhim

بِٱلْعَذَابِ

with the punishment

bil-ʿadhābi

إِذَا

behold

idhā

هُمْ

They

hum

يَجْـَٔرُونَ

cry for help

yajarūna

٦٤

Until when We seize their affluent ones with punishment,1 at once they are crying [to Allāh] for help.

— Saheeh International

لَا

(Do) not

تَجْـَٔرُوا۟

cry for help

tajarū

ٱلْيَوْمَ ۖ

today

l-yawma

إِنَّكُم

Indeed, you

innakum

مِّنَّا

from Us

minnā

لَا

not

تُنصَرُونَ

will be helped

tunṣarūna

٦٥

Do not cry out today. Indeed, by Us you will not be helped.

— Saheeh International

قَدْ

Verily

qad

كَانَتْ

were

kānat

ءَايَـٰتِى

My Verses

āyātī

تُتْلَىٰ

recited

tut'lā

عَلَيْكُمْ

to you

ʿalaykum

فَكُنتُمْ

but you used

fakuntum

عَلَىٰٓ

(to) on

ʿalā

أَعْقَـٰبِكُمْ

your heels

aʿqābikum

تَنكِصُونَ

turn back

tankiṣūna

٦٦

My verses had already been recited to you, but you were turning back on your heels.

— Saheeh International

مُسْتَكْبِرِينَ

(Being) arrogant

mus'takbirīna

بِهِۦ

about it

bihi

سَـٰمِرًۭا

conversing by night

sāmiran

تَهْجُرُونَ

speaking evil

tahjurūna

٦٧

In arrogance regarding it,1 conversing by night, speaking evil.

— Saheeh International

أَفَلَمْ

Then, do not

afalam

يَدَّبَّرُوا۟

they ponder

yaddabbarū

ٱلْقَوْلَ

the Word

l-qawla

أَمْ

or

am

جَآءَهُم

has come to them

jāahum

مَّا

what

لَمْ

not

lam

يَأْتِ

(had) come

yati

ءَابَآءَهُمُ

(to) their forefathers

ābāahumu

ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ

(to) their forefathers

l-awalīna

٦٨

Then have they not reflected over the word [i.e., the Qur’ān], or has there come to them that which had not come to their forefathers?

— Saheeh International

أَمْ

Or

am

لَمْ

(do) not

lam

يَعْرِفُوا۟

they recognize

yaʿrifū

رَسُولَهُمْ

their Messenger

rasūlahum

فَهُمْ

so they

fahum

لَهُۥ

(are) rejecting him

lahu

مُنكِرُونَ

(are) rejecting him

munkirūna

٦٩

Or did they not know their Messenger, so they are toward him disacknowledging?

— Saheeh International

أَمْ

Or

am

يَقُولُونَ

they say

yaqūlūna

بِهِۦ

In him

bihi

جِنَّةٌۢ ۚ

(is) madness

jinnatun

بَلْ

Nay

bal

جَآءَهُم

he brought them

jāahum

بِٱلْحَقِّ

the truth

bil-ḥaqi

وَأَكْثَرُهُمْ

but most of them

wa-aktharuhum

لِلْحَقِّ

to the truth

lil'ḥaqqi

كَـٰرِهُونَ

(are) averse

kārihūna

٧٠

Or do they say, "In him is madness"? Rather, he brought them the truth, but most of them, to the truth, are averse.

— Saheeh International

وَلَوِ

But if

walawi

ٱتَّبَعَ

(had) followed

ittabaʿa

ٱلْحَقُّ

the truth

l-ḥaqu

أَهْوَآءَهُمْ

their desires

ahwāahum

لَفَسَدَتِ

surely (would) have been corrupted

lafasadati

ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتُ

the heavens

l-samāwātu

وَٱلْأَرْضُ

and the earth

wal-arḍu

وَمَن

and whoever

waman

فِيهِنَّ ۚ

(is) therein

fīhinna

بَلْ

Nay

bal

أَتَيْنَـٰهُم

We have brought them

ataynāhum

بِذِكْرِهِمْ

their reminder

bidhik'rihim

فَهُمْ

but they

fahum

عَن

from

ʿan

ذِكْرِهِم

their reminder

dhik'rihim

مُّعْرِضُونَ

(are) turning away

muʿ'riḍūna

٧١

But if the Truth [i.e., Allāh] had followed their inclinations, the heavens and the earth and whoever is in them would have been ruined. Rather, We have brought them their message,1 but they, from their message, are turning away.

— Saheeh International

أَمْ

Or

am

تَسْـَٔلُهُمْ

you ask them

tasaluhum

خَرْجًۭا

(for) a payment

kharjan

فَخَرَاجُ

But the payment

fakharāju

رَبِّكَ

(of) your Lord

rabbika

خَيْرٌۭ ۖ

(is) best

khayrun

وَهُوَ

and He

wahuwa

خَيْرُ

(is) the Best

khayru

ٱلرَّٰزِقِينَ

(of) the Providers

l-rāziqīna

٧٢

Or do you, [O Muḥammad], ask them for payment? But the reward of your Lord is best, and He is the best of providers.

— Saheeh International

وَإِنَّكَ

And indeed, you

wa-innaka

لَتَدْعُوهُمْ

certainly call them

latadʿūhum

إِلَىٰ

to

ilā

صِرَٰطٍۢ

(the) Path

ṣirāṭin

مُّسْتَقِيمٍۢ

Straight

mus'taqīmin

٧٣

And indeed, you invite them to a straight path.

— Saheeh International

وَإِنَّ

And indeed

wa-inna

ٱلَّذِينَ

those who

alladhīna

لَا

(do) not

يُؤْمِنُونَ

believe

yu'minūna

بِٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ

in the Hereafter

bil-ākhirati

عَنِ

from

ʿani

ٱلصِّرَٰطِ

the path

l-ṣirāṭi

لَنَـٰكِبُونَ

surely (are) deviating

lanākibūna

٧٤

But indeed, those who do not believe in the Hereafter are deviating from the path.

— Saheeh International

۞ وَلَوْ

And if

walaw

رَحِمْنَـٰهُمْ

We had mercy on them

raḥim'nāhum

وَكَشَفْنَا

and We removed

wakashafnā

مَا

what

بِهِم

(was) on them

bihim

مِّن

of

min

ضُرٍّۢ

(the) hardship

ḍurrin

لَّلَجُّوا۟

surely they would persist

lalajjū

فِى

in

طُغْيَـٰنِهِمْ

their transgression

ṭugh'yānihim

يَعْمَهُونَ

wandering blindly

yaʿmahūna

٧٥

And even if We gave them mercy and removed what was upon them of affliction, they would persist in their transgression, wandering blindly.

— Saheeh International

وَلَقَدْ

And verily

walaqad

أَخَذْنَـٰهُم

We seized them

akhadhnāhum

بِٱلْعَذَابِ

with the punishment

bil-ʿadhābi

فَمَا

but not

famā

ٱسْتَكَانُوا۟

they submit

is'takānū

لِرَبِّهِمْ

to their Lord

lirabbihim

وَمَا

and not

wamā

يَتَضَرَّعُونَ

they supplicate humbly

yataḍarraʿūna

٧٦

And We had gripped them with suffering [as a warning], but they did not yield to their Lord, nor did they humbly supplicate, [and will continue thus]

— Saheeh International

حَتَّىٰٓ

Until

ḥattā

إِذَا

when

idhā

فَتَحْنَا

We opened

fataḥnā

عَلَيْهِم

for them

ʿalayhim

بَابًۭا

a gate

bāban

ذَا

of a punishment

dhā

عَذَابٍۢ

of a punishment

ʿadhābin

شَدِيدٍ

severe

shadīdin

إِذَا

behold

idhā

هُمْ

They

hum

فِيهِ

in it

fīhi

مُبْلِسُونَ

(will be in) despair

mub'lisūna

٧٧

Until when We have opened before them a door of severe punishment, immediately they will be therein in despair.

— Saheeh International

وَهُوَ

And He

wahuwa

ٱلَّذِىٓ

(is) the One Who

alladhī

أَنشَأَ

produced

ansha-a

لَكُمُ

for you

lakumu

ٱلسَّمْعَ

the hearing

l-samʿa

وَٱلْأَبْصَـٰرَ

and the sight

wal-abṣāra

وَٱلْأَفْـِٔدَةَ ۚ

and the feeling

wal-afidata

قَلِيلًۭا

little

qalīlan

مَّا

(is) what

تَشْكُرُونَ

you give thanks

tashkurūna

٧٨

And it is He who produced for you hearing and vision and hearts [i.e., intellect]; little are you grateful.

— Saheeh International

وَهُوَ

And He

wahuwa

ٱلَّذِى

(is) the One Who

alladhī

ذَرَأَكُمْ

multiplied you

dhara-akum

فِى

in

ٱلْأَرْضِ

the earth

l-arḍi

وَإِلَيْهِ

and to Him

wa-ilayhi

تُحْشَرُونَ

you will be gathered

tuḥ'sharūna

٧٩

And it is He who has multiplied you throughout the earth, and to Him you will be gathered.

— Saheeh International

وَهُوَ

And He

wahuwa

ٱلَّذِى

(is) the One Who

alladhī

يُحْىِۦ

gives life

yuḥ'yī

وَيُمِيتُ

and causes death

wayumītu

وَلَهُ

and for Him

walahu

ٱخْتِلَـٰفُ

(is the) alternation

ikh'tilāfu

ٱلَّيْلِ

(of) the night

al-layli

وَٱلنَّهَارِ ۚ

and the day

wal-nahāri

أَفَلَا

Then will not

afalā

تَعْقِلُونَ

you reason

taʿqilūna

٨٠

And it is He who gives life and causes death, and His is the alternation of the night and the day. Then will you not reason?

— Saheeh International

بَلْ

Nay

bal

قَالُوا۟

they say

qālū

مِثْلَ

(the) like

mith'la

مَا

(of) what

قَالَ

said

qāla

ٱلْأَوَّلُونَ

the former (people)

l-awalūna

٨١

Rather,1 they say like what the former peoples said.

— Saheeh International

قَالُوٓا۟

They said

qālū

أَءِذَا

What! When

a-idhā

مِتْنَا

we are dead

mit'nā

وَكُنَّا

and become

wakunnā

تُرَابًۭا

dust

turāban

وَعِظَـٰمًا

and bones

waʿiẓāman

أَءِنَّا

would we

a-innā

لَمَبْعُوثُونَ

surely be resurrected

lamabʿūthūna

٨٢

They said, "When we have died and become dust and bones, are we indeed to be resurrected?

— Saheeh International

لَقَدْ

Verily

laqad

وُعِدْنَا

we have been promised

wuʿid'nā

نَحْنُ

[we]

naḥnu

وَءَابَآؤُنَا

and our forefathers

waābāunā

هَـٰذَا

this

hādhā

مِن

before

min

قَبْلُ

before

qablu

إِنْ

not

in

هَـٰذَآ

(is) this

hādhā

إِلَّآ

but

illā

أَسَـٰطِيرُ

(the) tales

asāṭīru

ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ

(of) the former (people)

l-awalīna

٨٣

We have been promised this, we and our forefathers, before; this is not but legends of the former peoples."

— Saheeh International

قُل

Say

qul

لِّمَنِ

To whom (belongs)

limani

ٱلْأَرْضُ

the earth

l-arḍu

وَمَن

and whoever

waman

فِيهَآ

(is) in it

fīhā

إِن

if

in

كُنتُمْ

you

kuntum

تَعْلَمُونَ

know

taʿlamūna

٨٤

Say, [O Muḥammad], "To whom belongs the earth and whoever is in it, if you should know?"

— Saheeh International

سَيَقُولُونَ

They will say

sayaqūlūna

لِلَّهِ ۚ

To Allah

lillahi

قُلْ

Say

qul

أَفَلَا

Then will not

afalā

تَذَكَّرُونَ

you remember

tadhakkarūna

٨٥

They will say, "To Allāh." Say, "Then will you not remember?"

— Saheeh International

قُلْ

Say

qul

مَن

Who

man

رَّبُّ

(is the) Lord

rabbu

ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ

(of) the seven heavens

l-samāwāti

ٱلسَّبْعِ

(of) the seven heavens

l-sabʿi

وَرَبُّ

and (the) Lord

warabbu

ٱلْعَرْشِ

(of) the Throne

l-ʿarshi

ٱلْعَظِيمِ

the Great

l-ʿaẓīmi

٨٦

Say, "Who is Lord of the seven heavens and Lord of the Great Throne?"

— Saheeh International

سَيَقُولُونَ

They will say

sayaqūlūna

لِلَّهِ ۚ

Allah

lillahi

قُلْ

Say

qul

أَفَلَا

Then will not

afalā

تَتَّقُونَ

you fear (Him)

tattaqūna

٨٧

They will say, "[They belong] to Allāh." Say, "Then will you not fear Him?"

— Saheeh International

قُلْ

Say

qul

مَنۢ

Who is (it)

man

بِيَدِهِۦ

in Whose Hand(s)

biyadihi

مَلَكُوتُ

(is the) dominion

malakūtu

كُلِّ

(of) all

kulli

شَىْءٍۢ

things

shayin

وَهُوَ

and He

wahuwa

يُجِيرُ

protects

yujīru

وَلَا

and no (one)

walā

يُجَارُ

(can) be protected

yujāru

عَلَيْهِ

against Him

ʿalayhi

إِن

If

in

كُنتُمْ

you

kuntum

تَعْلَمُونَ

know

taʿlamūna

٨٨

Say, "In whose hand is the realm of all things - and He protects while none can protect against Him - if you should know?"

— Saheeh International

سَيَقُولُونَ

They will say

sayaqūlūna

لِلَّهِ ۚ

Allah

lillahi

قُلْ

Say

qul

فَأَنَّىٰ

Then how

fa-annā

تُسْحَرُونَ

are you deluded

tus'ḥarūna

٨٩

They will say, "[All belongs] to Allāh." Say, "Then how are you deluded?"

— Saheeh International

بَلْ

Nay

bal

أَتَيْنَـٰهُم

We (have) brought them

ataynāhum

بِٱلْحَقِّ

the truth

bil-ḥaqi

وَإِنَّهُمْ

but indeed, they

wa-innahum

لَكَـٰذِبُونَ

surely, (are) liars

lakādhibūna

٩٠

Rather, We have brought them the truth, and indeed they are liars.

— Saheeh International

مَا

Not

ٱتَّخَذَ

Allah has taken

ittakhadha

ٱللَّهُ

Allah has taken

l-lahu

مِن

any

min

وَلَدٍۢ

son

waladin

وَمَا

and not

wamā

كَانَ

is

kāna

مَعَهُۥ

with Him

maʿahu

مِنْ

any

min

إِلَـٰهٍ ۚ

god

ilāhin

إِذًۭا

Then

idhan

لَّذَهَبَ

surely (would have) taken away

ladhahaba

كُلُّ

each

kullu

إِلَـٰهٍۭ

god

ilāhin

بِمَا

what

bimā

خَلَقَ

he created

khalaqa

وَلَعَلَا

and surely would have overpowered

walaʿalā

بَعْضُهُمْ

some of them

baʿḍuhum

عَلَىٰ

[on]

ʿalā

بَعْضٍۢ ۚ

others

baʿḍin

سُبْحَـٰنَ

Glory be

sub'ḥāna

ٱللَّهِ

(to) Allah

l-lahi

عَمَّا

above what

ʿammā

يَصِفُونَ

they attribute

yaṣifūna

٩١

Allāh has not taken any son, nor has there ever been with Him any deity. [If there had been], then each deity would have taken what it created, and some of them would have [sought to] overcome others. Exalted is Allāh above what they describe [concerning Him].

— Saheeh International

عَـٰلِمِ

Knower

ʿālimi

ٱلْغَيْبِ

(of) the unseen

l-ghaybi

وَٱلشَّهَـٰدَةِ

and the witnessed

wal-shahādati

فَتَعَـٰلَىٰ

exalted is He

fataʿālā

عَمَّا

above what

ʿammā

يُشْرِكُونَ

they associate

yush'rikūna

٩٢

[He is] Knower of the unseen and the witnessed, so high is He above what they associate [with Him].

— Saheeh International

قُل

Say

qul

رَّبِّ

My Lord

rabbi

إِمَّا

If

immā

تُرِيَنِّى

You should show me

turiyannī

مَا

what

يُوعَدُونَ

they are promised

yūʿadūna

٩٣

Say, [O Muḥammad], "My Lord, if You should show me that which they are promised,

— Saheeh International

رَبِّ

My Lord

rabbi

فَلَا

then (do) not

falā

تَجْعَلْنِى

place me

tajʿalnī

فِى

among

ٱلْقَوْمِ

the people

l-qawmi

ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ

the wrongdoers

l-ẓālimīna

٩٤

My Lord, then do not place me among the wrongdoing people."

— Saheeh International

وَإِنَّا

And indeed We

wa-innā

عَلَىٰٓ

on

ʿalā

أَن

that

an

نُّرِيَكَ

We show you

nuriyaka

مَا

what

نَعِدُهُمْ

We have promised them

naʿiduhum

لَقَـٰدِرُونَ

surely able

laqādirūna

٩٥

And indeed, We are Able to show you what We have promised them.

— Saheeh International

ٱدْفَعْ

Repel

id'faʿ

بِٱلَّتِى

by that

bi-allatī

هِىَ

which

hiya

أَحْسَنُ

(is) best

aḥsanu

ٱلسَّيِّئَةَ ۚ

the evil

l-sayi-ata

نَحْنُ

We

naḥnu

أَعْلَمُ

know best

aʿlamu

بِمَا

of what

bimā

يَصِفُونَ

they attribute

yaṣifūna

٩٦

Repel, by [means of] what is best, [their] evil. We are most knowing of what they describe.

— Saheeh International

وَقُل

And say

waqul

رَّبِّ

My Lord

rabbi

أَعُوذُ

I seek refuge

aʿūdhu

بِكَ

in You

bika

مِنْ

from

min

هَمَزَٰتِ

(the) suggestions

hamazāti

ٱلشَّيَـٰطِينِ

(of) the evil ones

l-shayāṭīni

٩٧

And say, "My Lord, I seek refuge in You from the incitements of the devils,

— Saheeh International

وَأَعُوذُ

And I seek refuge

wa-aʿūdhu

بِكَ

in You

bika

رَبِّ

My Lord

rabbi

أَن

Lest

an

يَحْضُرُونِ

they be present with me

yaḥḍurūni

٩٨

And I seek refuge in You, my Lord, lest they be present with me."

— Saheeh International

حَتَّىٰٓ

Until

ḥattā

إِذَا

when

idhā

جَآءَ

comes

jāa

أَحَدَهُمُ

(to) one of them

aḥadahumu

ٱلْمَوْتُ

the death

l-mawtu

قَالَ

he says

qāla

رَبِّ

My Lord

rabbi

ٱرْجِعُونِ

Send me back

ir'jiʿūni

٩٩

[For such is the state of the disbelievers] until, when death comes to one of them, he says, "My Lord, send me back

— Saheeh International

لَعَلِّىٓ

That I may

laʿallī

أَعْمَلُ

do

aʿmalu

صَـٰلِحًۭا

righteous (deeds)

ṣāliḥan

فِيمَا

in what

fīmā

تَرَكْتُ ۚ

I left behind

taraktu

كَلَّآ ۚ

No

kallā

إِنَّهَا

Indeed, it

innahā

كَلِمَةٌ

(is) a word

kalimatun

هُوَ

he

huwa

قَآئِلُهَا ۖ

speaks it

qāiluhā

وَمِن

and before them

wamin

وَرَآئِهِم

and before them

warāihim

بَرْزَخٌ

(is) a barrier

barzakhun

إِلَىٰ

till

ilā

يَوْمِ

(the) Day

yawmi

يُبْعَثُونَ

they are resurrected

yub'ʿathūna

١٠٠

That I might do righteousness in that which I left behind."1 No! It is only a word he is saying; and behind them is a barrier until the Day they are resurrected.

— Saheeh International

فَإِذَا

So when

fa-idhā

نُفِخَ

is blown

nufikha

فِى

in

ٱلصُّورِ

the trumpet

l-ṣūri

فَلَآ

then not

falā

أَنسَابَ

(there) will be relationship

ansāba

بَيْنَهُمْ

among them

baynahum

يَوْمَئِذٍۢ

that Day

yawma-idhin

وَلَا

and not

walā

يَتَسَآءَلُونَ

will they ask each other

yatasāalūna

١٠١

So when the Horn is blown, no relationship will there be among them that Day, nor will they ask about one another.

— Saheeh International

فَمَن

Then (the one) whose

faman

ثَقُلَتْ

(are) heavy

thaqulat

مَوَٰزِينُهُۥ

his scales

mawāzīnuhu

فَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ

then those

fa-ulāika

هُمُ

they

humu

ٱلْمُفْلِحُونَ

(are) the successful

l-muf'liḥūna

١٠٢

And those whose scales are heavy [with good deeds] - it is they who are the successful.

— Saheeh International

وَمَنْ

But (the one) whose

waman

خَفَّتْ

(are) light

khaffat

مَوَٰزِينُهُۥ

his scales

mawāzīnuhu

فَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ

then those

fa-ulāika

ٱلَّذِينَ

they [who]

alladhīna

خَسِرُوٓا۟

have lost

khasirū

أَنفُسَهُمْ

their souls

anfusahum

فِى

in

جَهَنَّمَ

Hell

jahannama

خَـٰلِدُونَ

they (will) abide forever

khālidūna

١٠٣

But those whose scales are light - those are the ones who have lost their souls, [being] in Hell, abiding eternally.

— Saheeh International

تَلْفَحُ

Will burn

talfaḥu

وُجُوهَهُمُ

their faces

wujūhahumu

ٱلنَّارُ

the Fire

l-nāru

وَهُمْ

and they

wahum

فِيهَا

in it

fīhā

كَـٰلِحُونَ

(will) grin with displaced lips

kāliḥūna

١٠٤

The Fire will sear their faces, and they therein will have taut smiles.1

— Saheeh International

أَلَمْ

Were not

alam

تَكُنْ

Were not

takun

ءَايَـٰتِى

My Verses

āyātī

تُتْلَىٰ

recited

tut'lā

عَلَيْكُمْ

to you

ʿalaykum

فَكُنتُم

and you used (to)

fakuntum

بِهَا

deny them

bihā

تُكَذِّبُونَ

deny them

tukadhibūna

١٠٥

[It will be said], "Were not My verses recited to you and you used to deny them?"

— Saheeh International

قَالُوا۟

They (will) say

qālū

رَبَّنَا

Our Lord

rabbanā

غَلَبَتْ

Overcame

ghalabat

عَلَيْنَا

[on] us

ʿalaynā

شِقْوَتُنَا

our wretchedness

shiq'watunā

وَكُنَّا

and we were

wakunnā

قَوْمًۭا

a people

qawman

ضَآلِّينَ

astray

ḍāllīna

١٠٦

They will say, "Our Lord, our wretchedness overcame us, and we were a people astray.

— Saheeh International

رَبَّنَآ

Our Lord

rabbanā

أَخْرِجْنَا

Bring us out

akhrij'nā

مِنْهَا

from it

min'hā

فَإِنْ

then if

fa-in

عُدْنَا

we return

ʿud'nā

فَإِنَّا

then indeed, we

fa-innā

ظَـٰلِمُونَ

(would be) wrongdoers

ẓālimūna

١٠٧

Our Lord, remove us from it, and if we were to return [to evil], we would indeed be wrongdoers."

— Saheeh International

قَالَ

He (will) say

qāla

ٱخْسَـُٔوا۟

Remain despised

ikh'saū

فِيهَا

in it

fīhā

وَلَا

and (do) not

walā

تُكَلِّمُونِ

speak to Me

tukallimūni

١٠٨

He will say, "Remain despised therein and do not speak to Me.

— Saheeh International

إِنَّهُۥ

Indeed

innahu

كَانَ

(there) was

kāna

فَرِيقٌۭ

a party

farīqun

مِّنْ

of

min

عِبَادِى

My slaves

ʿibādī

يَقُولُونَ

(who) said

yaqūlūna

رَبَّنَآ

Our Lord

rabbanā

ءَامَنَّا

We believe

āmannā

فَٱغْفِرْ

so forgive

fa-igh'fir

لَنَا

us

lanā

وَٱرْحَمْنَا

and have mercy on us

wa-ir'ḥamnā

وَأَنتَ

and You

wa-anta

خَيْرُ

(are) best

khayru

ٱلرَّٰحِمِينَ

(of) those who show mercy

l-rāḥimīna

١٠٩

Indeed, there was a party of My servants who said, 'Our Lord, we have believed, so forgive us and have mercy upon us, and You are the best of the merciful.'

— Saheeh International

فَٱتَّخَذْتُمُوهُمْ

But you took them

fa-ittakhadhtumūhum

سِخْرِيًّا

(in) mockery

sikh'riyyan

حَتَّىٰٓ

until

ḥattā

أَنسَوْكُمْ

they made you forget

ansawkum

ذِكْرِى

My remembrance

dhik'rī

وَكُنتُم

and you used (to)

wakuntum

مِّنْهُمْ

at them

min'hum

تَضْحَكُونَ

laugh

taḍḥakūna

١١٠

But you took them in mockery to the point that they made you forget My remembrance, and you used to laugh at them.

— Saheeh International

إِنِّى

Indeed, I

innī

جَزَيْتُهُمُ

have rewarded them

jazaytuhumu

ٱلْيَوْمَ

this Day

l-yawma

بِمَا

because

bimā

صَبَرُوٓا۟

they were patient

ṣabarū

أَنَّهُمْ

indeed, they

annahum

هُمُ

[they]

humu

ٱلْفَآئِزُونَ

(are) the successful ones

l-fāizūna

١١١

Indeed, I have rewarded them this Day for their patient endurance - that they are the attainers [of success]."

— Saheeh International

قَـٰلَ

He will say

qāla

كَمْ

How long

kam

لَبِثْتُمْ

did you remain

labith'tum

فِى

in

ٱلْأَرْضِ

the earth

l-arḍi

عَدَدَ

(in) number

ʿadada

سِنِينَ

(of) years

sinīna

١١٢

[Allāh] will say, "How long did you remain on earth in number of years?"

— Saheeh International

قَالُوا۟

They will say

qālū

لَبِثْنَا

We remained

labith'nā

يَوْمًا

a day

yawman

أَوْ

or

aw

بَعْضَ

a part

baʿḍa

يَوْمٍۢ

(of) a day

yawmin

فَسْـَٔلِ

but ask

fasali

ٱلْعَآدِّينَ

those who keep count

l-ʿādīna

١١٣

They will say, "We remained a day or part of a day; ask those who enumerate."

— Saheeh International

قَـٰلَ

He will say

qāla

إِن

Not

in

لَّبِثْتُمْ

you stayed

labith'tum

إِلَّا

but

illā

قَلِيلًۭا ۖ

a little

qalīlan

لَّوْ

if

law

أَنَّكُمْ

only you

annakum

كُنتُمْ

[you]

kuntum

تَعْلَمُونَ

knew

taʿlamūna

١١٤

He will say, "You stayed not but a little - if only you had known.

— Saheeh International

أَفَحَسِبْتُمْ

Then did you think

afaḥasib'tum

أَنَّمَا

that

annamā

خَلَقْنَـٰكُمْ

We created you

khalaqnākum

عَبَثًۭا

uselessly

ʿabathan

وَأَنَّكُمْ

and that you

wa-annakum

إِلَيْنَا

to Us

ilaynā

لَا

not

تُرْجَعُونَ

will be returned

tur'jaʿūna

١١٥

Then did you think that We created you uselessly and that to Us you would not be returned?"

— Saheeh International

فَتَعَـٰلَى

So exalted is

fataʿālā

ٱللَّهُ

Allah

l-lahu

ٱلْمَلِكُ

the King

l-maliku

ٱلْحَقُّ ۖ

the Truth

l-ḥaqu

لَآ

(There is) no

إِلَـٰهَ

god

ilāha

إِلَّا

except

illā

هُوَ

Him

huwa

رَبُّ

(the) Lord

rabbu

ٱلْعَرْشِ

(of) the Throne

l-ʿarshi

ٱلْكَرِيمِ

Honorable

l-karīmi

١١٦

So exalted is Allāh, the Sovereign,1 the Truth;2 there is no deity except Him, Lord of the Noble Throne.

— Saheeh International

وَمَن

And whoever

waman

يَدْعُ

invokes

yadʿu

مَعَ

with

maʿa

ٱللَّهِ

Allah

l-lahi

إِلَـٰهًا

god

ilāhan

ءَاخَرَ

other

ākhara

لَا

no

بُرْهَـٰنَ

proof

bur'hāna

لَهُۥ

for him

lahu

بِهِۦ

in it

bihi

فَإِنَّمَا

Then only

fa-innamā

حِسَابُهُۥ

his account

ḥisābuhu

عِندَ

(is) with

ʿinda

رَبِّهِۦٓ ۚ

his Lord

rabbihi

إِنَّهُۥ

Indeed, [he]

innahu

لَا

not

يُفْلِحُ

will succeed

yuf'liḥu

ٱلْكَـٰفِرُونَ

the disbelievers

l-kāfirūna

١١٧

And whoever invokes besides Allāh another deity for which he has no proof - then his account is only with his Lord. Indeed, the disbelievers will not succeed.

— Saheeh International

وَقُل

And say

waqul

رَّبِّ

My Lord

rabbi

ٱغْفِرْ

Forgive

igh'fir

وَٱرْحَمْ

and have mercy

wa-ir'ḥam

وَأَنتَ

and You

wa-anta

خَيْرُ

(are the) Best

khayru

ٱلرَّٰحِمِينَ

(of) those who show mercy

l-rāḥimīna

١١٨

And, [O Muḥammad], say, "My Lord, forgive and have mercy, and You are the best of the merciful."

— Saheeh International
