الٓر ۚ Alif Laam Ra alif-lam-ra A Book kitābun which We have revealed anzalnāhu to you ilayka so that you may bring out litukh'rija the mankind l-nāsa from mina the darkness[es] l-ẓulumāti to ilā the light l-nūri by the permission bi-idh'ni (of) their Lord rabbihim to ilā the Path ṣirāṭi (of) the All-Mighty l-ʿazīzi the Praiseworthy l-ḥamīdi
Alif, Lām, Rā.1 [This is] a Book which We have revealed to you, [O Muḥammad], that you might bring mankind out of darknesses into the light by permission of their Lord - to the path of the Exalted in Might, the Praiseworthy -
ٱللَّهِ Allah al-lahi (is) the One alladhī to Him (belongs) lahu whatever mā (is) in fī the heavens l-samāwāti and whatever wamā (is) in fī the earth l-arḍi And woe wawaylun to the disbelievers lil'kāfirīna from min the punishment ʿadhābin severe shadīdin
Allāh, to whom belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth. And woe [i.e., destruction] to the disbelievers from a severe punishment -
ٱلَّذِينَ Those who alladhīna love more yastaḥibbūna the life l-ḥayata (of) the world l-dun'yā than ʿalā the Hereafter l-ākhirati and hinder wayaṣuddūna from ʿan (the) Path sabīli (of) Allah l-lahi and seek in it wayabghūnahā crookedness ʿiwajan those ulāika [in] fī (are) far astray ḍalālin (are) far astray baʿīdin
The ones who prefer the worldly life over the Hereafter and avert [people] from the way of Allāh, seeking to make it [seem] deviant. Those are in extreme error.
وَمَآ And not wamā We sent arsalnā any min Messenger rasūlin except illā with the language bilisāni (of) his people qawmihi so that he might make clear liyubayyina for them lahum Then Allah lets go astray fayuḍillu Then Allah lets go astray l-lahu whom man He wills yashāu and guides wayahdī whom man He wills yashāu And He wahuwa (is) the All-Mighty l-ʿazīzu the All-Wise l-ḥakīmu
And We did not send any messenger except [speaking] in the language of his people to state clearly for them, and Allāh sends astray [thereby] whom He wills1 and guides whom He wills. And He is the Exalted in Might, the Wise.
وَلَقَدْ And verily walaqad We sent arsalnā Musa mūsā with Our Signs biāyātinā that an Bring out akhrij your people qawmaka from mina the darkness[es] l-ẓulumāti to ilā the light l-nūri And remind them wadhakkir'hum of the days bi-ayyāmi (of) Allah l-lahi Indeed inna in fī that dhālika surely (are) the signs laāyātin for everyone likulli patient ṣabbārin and thankful shakūrin
And We certainly sent Moses with Our signs, [saying], "Bring out your people from darknesses into the light and remind them of the days1 of Allāh." Indeed in that are signs for everyone patient and grateful.
وَإِذْ And when wa-idh said qāla Musa mūsā to his people liqawmihi Remember udh'kurū (the) Favor of Allah niʿ'mata (the) Favor of Allah l-lahi upon you ʿalaykum when idh He saved you anjākum from min (the) people āli (of) Firaun fir'ʿawna they were afflicting you yasūmūnakum (with) evil sūa torment l-ʿadhābi and were slaughtering wayudhabbiḥūna your sons abnāakum and letting live wayastaḥyūna your women nisāakum And in wafī that dhālikum (was) a trial balāon from min your Lord rabbikum great ʿaẓīmun
And [recall, O Children of Israel], when Moses said to his people, "Remember the favor of Allāh upon you when He saved you from the people of Pharaoh, who were afflicting you with the worst torment and were slaughtering your [newborn] sons and keeping your females alive. And in that was a great trial from your Lord.
وَإِذْ And when wa-idh proclaimed ta-adhana your Lord rabbukum If la-in you are thankful shakartum surely I will increase you la-azīdannakum but if wala-in you are ungrateful kafartum indeed inna My punishment ʿadhābī (is) surely severe lashadīdun
And [remember] when your Lord proclaimed, 'If you are grateful, I will surely increase you [in favor]; but if you deny, indeed, My punishment is severe.'"
وَقَالَ And said waqāla Musa mūsā If in you disbelieve takfurū you antum and whoever waman (is) in fī the earth l-arḍi all jamīʿan then indeed fa-inna Allah l-laha certainly (is) Free of need laghaniyyun Praiseworthy ḥamīdun
And Moses said, "If you should disbelieve, you and whoever is on the earth entirely - indeed, Allāh is Free of need and Praiseworthy."
أَلَمْ Has not alam come to you yatikum (the) news naba-u (of) those who alladhīna (were) before you min (were) before you qablikum the people qawmi of Nuh nūḥin and Aad waʿādin and Thamud wathamūda and those who wa-alladhīna (were) after them min (were) after them baʿdihim None lā knows them yaʿlamuhum except illā Allah l-lahu Came to them jāathum their Messengers rusuluhum with clear proofs bil-bayināti but they returned faraddū their hands aydiyahum in fī their mouths afwāhihim and they said waqālū Indeed we innā [we] disbelieve kafarnā in what bimā you have been sent ur'sil'tum with [it] bihi and indeed, we wa-innā (are) surely in lafī doubt shakkin about what mimmā you invite us tadʿūnanā to it ilayhi suspicious murībin
Has there not reached you the news of those before you - the people of Noah and ʿAad and Thamūd and those after them? No one knows them [i.e., their number] but Allāh. Their messengers brought them clear proofs, but they returned their hands to their mouths1 and said, "Indeed, we disbelieve in that with which you have been sent, and indeed we are, about that to which you invite us, in disquieting doubt."
۞ قَالَتْ Said qālat their Messengers rusuluhum Can (there) be about afī Allah l-lahi any doubt shakkun (the) Creator fāṭiri (of) the heavens l-samāwāti and the earth wal-arḍi He invites you yadʿūkum so that He may forgive liyaghfira for you lakum [of] min your sins dhunūbikum and give you respite wayu-akhirakum for ilā a term ajalin appointed musamman They said qālū Not in you antum (are) but illā a human basharun like us mith'lunā you wish turīdūna to an hinder us taṣuddūnā from what ʿammā used to kāna worship yaʿbudu our forefathers ābāunā So bring us fatūnā an authority bisul'ṭānin clear mubīnin
Their messengers said, "Can there be doubt about Allāh, Creator of the heavens and earth? He invites you that He may forgive you of your sins, and He delays you [i.e., your death] for a specified term." They said, "You are not but men like us who wish to avert us from what our fathers were worshipping. So bring us a clear authority [i.e., evidence]."
قَالَتْ Said qālat to them lahum their Messengers rusuluhum Not in we (are) naḥnu but illā a human basharun like you mith'lukum but walākinna Allah l-laha bestows His Grace yamunnu on ʿalā whom man He wills yashāu of min His slaves ʿibādihi And not wamā is kāna for us lanā that an we bring you natiyakum an authority bisul'ṭānin except illā by the permission of Allah bi-idh'ni by the permission of Allah l-lahi And upon waʿalā Allah l-lahi so let put (their) trust falyatawakkali the believers l-mu'minūna
Their messengers said to them, "We are only men like you, but Allāh confers favor upon whom He wills of His servants. It has never been for us to bring you evidence except by permission of Allāh. And upon Allāh let the believers rely.
وَمَا And what wamā (is) for us lanā that not allā we put our trust natawakkala upon ʿalā Allah l-lahi while certainly waqad He has guided us hadānā to our ways subulanā And surely we will bear with patience walanaṣbiranna on ʿalā what mā harm you may cause us ādhaytumūnā And upon waʿalā Allah l-lahi so let put (their) trust falyatawakkali the ones who put (their) trust l-mutawakilūna
And why should we not rely upon Allāh while He has guided us to our [good] ways. And we will surely be patient against whatever harm you should cause us. And upon Allāh let those who would rely [indeed] rely."
وَقَالَ And said waqāla those who alladhīna disbelieved kafarū to their Messengers lirusulihim Surely we will drive you out lanukh'rijannakum of min our land arḍinā or aw surely you should return lataʿūdunna to fī our religion millatinā So inspired fa-awḥā to them ilayhim their Lord rabbuhum We will surely destroy lanuh'likanna the wrongdoers l-ẓālimīna
And those who disbelieved said to their messengers, "We will surely drive you out of our land, or you must return to our religion." So their Lord inspired to them, "We will surely destroy the wrongdoers.
وَلَنُسْكِنَنَّكُمُ And surely We will make you dwell walanus'kinannakumu (in) the land l-arḍa after them min after them baʿdihim That dhālika (is) for whoever liman fears khāfa standing before Me maqāmī and fears wakhāfa My Threat waʿīdi
And We will surely cause you to dwell in the land after them. That is for he who fears My position1 and fears My threat."
وَٱسْتَفْتَحُوا۟ And they sought victory wa-is'taftaḥū and disappointed wakhāba every kullu tyrant jabbārin obstinate ʿanīdin
And they requested decision [i.e., victory from Allāh], and disappointed, [therefore], was every obstinate tyrant.
مِّن of him min Ahead warāihi (is) Hell jahannamu and he will be made to drink wayus'qā of min water māin purulent ṣadīdin
Before him1 is Hell, and he will be given a drink of purulent water.2
يَتَجَرَّعُهُۥ He will sip it yatajarraʿuhu but not walā he will be near yakādu (to) swallowing it yusīghuhu And will come to him wayatīhi the death l-mawtu from min every kulli side makānin but not wamā he huwa will die bimayyitin And ahead of him wamin And ahead of him warāihi (is) a punishment ʿadhābun harsh ghalīẓun
He will gulp it but will hardly [be able to] swallow it. And death will come to him from everywhere, but he is not to die. And before him is a massive punishment.
مَّثَلُ (The) example mathalu (of) those who alladhīna disbelieve kafarū in their Lord birabbihim their deeds aʿmāluhum (are) like ashes karamādin blows furiously ish'taddat on it bihi the wind l-rīḥu in fī a day yawmin stormy ʿāṣifin No lā control (they have) yaqdirūna of what mimmā they have earned kasabū on ʿalā anything shayin That dhālika [it] huwa (is) the straying l-ḍalālu far l-baʿīdu
The example of those who disbelieve in their Lord is [that] their deeds are like ashes which the wind blows forcefully on a stormy day; they are unable [to keep] from what they earned a [single] thing. That is what is extreme error.
أَلَمْ Do not alam you see tara that anna Allah l-laha created khalaqa the heavens l-samāwāti and the earth wal-arḍa in truth bil-ḥaqi If in He wills yasha He can remove you yudh'hib'kum and bring wayati a creation bikhalqin new jadīdin
Have you not seen [i.e., considered] that Allāh created the heavens and the earth in truth? If He wills, He can do away with you and produce a new creation.
وَمَا And not wamā (is) that dhālika on ʿalā Allah l-lahi great biʿazīzin
And that is not difficult for Allāh.
وَبَرَزُوا۟ And they will come forth wabarazū before Allah lillahi all together jamīʿan then will say faqāla the weak l-ḍuʿafāu to those who lilladhīna were arrogant is'takbarū Indeed we innā we were kunnā your lakum followers tabaʿan so can fahal you (be) antum the one who avails mugh'nūna us ʿannā from min (the) punishment ʿadhābi (of) Allah l-lahi anything min anything shayin They will say qālū If law Allah had guided us hadānā Allah had guided us l-lahu surely we would have guided you lahadaynākum (It is) same sawāon for us ʿalaynā whether we show intolerance ajaziʿ'nā or am we are patient ṣabarnā not mā (is) for us lanā any min place of escape maḥīṣin
And they will come out [for judgement] before Allāh all together, and the weak will say to those who were arrogant, "Indeed, we were your followers, so can you avail us anything against the punishment of Allāh?" They will say, "If Allāh had guided us, we would have guided you. It is all the same for us whether we show intolerance or are patient: there is for us no place of escape."
وَقَالَ And will say waqāla the Shaitaan l-shayṭānu when lammā has been decided quḍiya the matter l-amru Indeed inna Allah l-laha promised you waʿadakum a promise waʿda (of) truth l-ḥaqi And I promised you wawaʿadttukum but I betrayed you fa-akhlaftukum But not wamā I had kāna I had liya over you ʿalaykum any min authority sul'ṭānin except illā that an I invited you daʿawtukum and you responded fa-is'tajabtum to me lī So (do) not falā blame me talūmūnī but blame walūmū yourselves anfusakum Not mā (can) I anā (be) your helper bimuṣ'rikhikum and not wamā you (can) antum (be) my helper bimuṣ'rikhiyya Indeed, I innī deny kafartu [of what] bimā your association of me (with Allah) ashraktumūni before min before qablu Indeed inna the wrongdoers l-ẓālimīna for them lahum (is) a punishment ʿadhābun painful alīmun
And Satan will say when the matter has been concluded, "Indeed, Allāh had promised you the promise of truth. And I promised you, but I betrayed you. But I had no authority over you except that I invited you, and you responded to me. So do not blame me; but blame yourselves. I cannot be called to your aid, nor can you be called to my aid. Indeed, I deny your association of me [with Allāh] before.1 Indeed, for the wrongdoers is a painful punishment."
وَأُدْخِلَ And will be admitted wa-ud'khila those who alladhīna believed āmanū and did waʿamilū righteous deeds l-ṣāliḥāti (to) Gardens jannātin flows tajrī from min underneath it taḥtihā the rivers l-anhāru (will) abide forever khālidīna in it fīhā by the permission bi-idh'ni (of) their Lord rabbihim their greetings taḥiyyatuhum therein fīhā (will be) peace salāmun
And those who believed and did righteous deeds will be admitted to gardens beneath which rivers flow, abiding eternally therein by permission of their Lord; and their greeting therein will be, "Peace!"
أَلَمْ Do not alam you see tara how kayfa Allah sets forth ḍaraba Allah sets forth l-lahu the example mathalan a word kalimatan good ṭayyibatan (is) like a tree kashajaratin good ṭayyibatin its root aṣluhā (is) firm thābitun and its branches wafarʿuhā (are) in fī the sky l-samāi
Have you not considered how Allāh presents an example, [making] a good word like a good tree, whose root is firmly fixed and its branches [high] in the sky?
تُؤْتِىٓ Giving tu'tī its fruit ukulahā all kulla time ḥīnin by the permission bi-idh'ni of its Lord rabbihā And Allah sets forth wayaḍribu And Allah sets forth l-lahu the examples l-amthāla for mankind lilnnāsi so that they may laʿallahum remember yatadhakkarūna
It produces its fruit all the time, by permission of its Lord. And Allāh presents examples for the people that perhaps they will be reminded.
وَمَثَلُ And (the) example wamathalu (of) a word kalimatin evil khabīthatin (is) like a tree kashajaratin evil khabīthatin uprooted uj'tuthat from min the surface fawqi (of) the earth l-arḍi not mā for it lahā (is) any min stability qarārin
And the example of a bad word is like a bad tree, uprooted from the surface of the earth, not having any stability.
يُثَبِّتُ Allah keeps firm yuthabbitu Allah keeps firm l-lahu those who alladhīna believe āmanū with the firm word bil-qawli with the firm word l-thābiti in fī the life l-ḥayati (of) the world l-dun'yā and in wafī the Hereafter l-ākhirati And Allah lets go astray wayuḍillu And Allah lets go astray l-lahu the wrongdoers l-ẓālimīna And Allah does wayafʿalu And Allah does l-lahu what mā He wills yashāu
Allāh keeps firm those who believe, with the firm word,1 in worldly life and in the Hereafter.2 And Allāh sends astray the wrongdoers. And Allāh does what He wills.
۞ أَلَمْ Have not alam you seen tara [to] ilā those who alladhīna (have) changed baddalū (the) Favor niʿ'mata (of) Allah l-lahi (for) disbelief kuf'ran and they led wa-aḥallū their people qawmahum (to the) house dāra (of) destruction l-bawāri
Have you not considered those who exchanged the favor of Allāh for disbelief1 and settled their people [in] the home of ruin?
جَهَنَّمَ Hell jahannama (in) it they will burn yaṣlawnahā and a wretched wabi'sa place to settle l-qarāru
[It is] Hell, which they will [enter to] burn, and wretched is the settlement.
وَجَعَلُوا۟ And they set up wajaʿalū to Allah lillahi equals andādan so that they mislead liyuḍillū from ʿan His Path sabīlihi Say qul Enjoy tamattaʿū but indeed fa-inna your destination maṣīrakum (is) to ilā the Fire l-nāri
And they have attributed to Allāh equals to mislead [people] from His way. Say, "Enjoy yourselves, for indeed, your destination is the Fire."
قُل Say qul to My slaves liʿibādiya those who alladhīna believe āmanū (to) establish yuqīmū the prayers l-ṣalata and (to) spend wayunfiqū from what mimmā We have provided them razaqnāhum secretly sirran and publicly waʿalāniyatan before min before qabli [that] an comes yatiya a Day yawmun not lā any trade bayʿun in it fīhi and not walā any friendship khilālun
[O Muḥammad], tell My servants who have believed to establish prayer and spend from what We have provided them, secretly and publicly, before a Day comes in which there will be no exchange [i.e., ransom], nor any friendships.
ٱللَّهُ Allah al-lahu (is) the One Who alladhī created khalaqa the heavens l-samāwāti and the earth wal-arḍa and sent down wa-anzala from mina the sky l-samāi water māan then brought forth fa-akhraja from it bihi of mina the fruits l-thamarāti (as) a provision riz'qan for you lakum and subjected wasakhara for you lakumu the ships l-ful'ka so that they may sail litajriya in fī the sea l-baḥri by His command bi-amrihi and subjected wasakhara for you lakumu the rivers l-anhāra
It is Allāh who created the heavens and the earth and sent down rain from the sky and produced thereby some fruits as provision for you and subjected for you1 the ships to sail through the sea by His command and subjected for you the rivers.
وَسَخَّرَ And He subjected wasakhara for you lakumu the sun l-shamsa and the moon wal-qamara both constantly pursuing their courses dāibayni and subjected wasakhara for you lakumu the night al-layla and the day wal-nahāra
And He subjected for you the sun and the moon, continuous [in orbit], and subjected for you the night and the day.
وَءَاتَىٰكُم And He gave you waātākum of min all kulli what mā you asked of Him sa-altumūhu And if wa-in you count taʿuddū (the) Favor of Allah niʿ'mata (the) Favor of Allah l-lahi not lā you will (be able to) count them tuḥ'ṣūhā Indeed inna the mankind l-insāna (is) surely unjust laẓalūmun (and) ungrateful kaffārun
And He gave you from all you asked of Him.1 And if you should count the favor [i.e., blessings] of Allāh, you could not enumerate them. Indeed, mankind is [generally] most unjust and ungrateful.2
وَإِذْ And when wa-idh said qāla Ibrahim ib'rāhīmu My Lord rabbi Make ij'ʿal this hādhā city l-balada safe āminan and keep me away wa-uj'nub'nī and my sons wabaniyya that an we worship naʿbuda the idols l-aṣnāma
And [mention, O Muḥammad], when Abraham said, "My Lord, make this city [i.e., Makkah] secure and keep me and my sons away from worshipping idols.
رَبِّ My Lord rabbi Indeed, they innahunna have led astray aḍlalna many kathīran among mina the mankind l-nāsi So whoever faman follows me tabiʿanī then indeed, he fa-innahu (is) of me minnī and whoever waman disobeys me ʿaṣānī then indeed, You fa-innaka (are) Oft-Forgiving ghafūrun Most Merciful raḥīmun
My Lord, indeed they have led astray many among the people. So whoever follows me - then he is of me;1 and whoever disobeys me - indeed, You are [yet] Forgiving and Merciful.
رَّبَّنَآ Our Lord rabbanā Indeed, I innī [I] have settled askantu (some) of min my offsprings dhurriyyatī in a valley biwādin not ghayri with dhī cultivation zarʿin near ʿinda Your Sacred House baytika Your Sacred House l-muḥarami our Lord rabbanā That they may establish liyuqīmū the prayers l-ṣalata So make fa-ij'ʿal hearts afidatan of mina the men l-nāsi incline tahwī towards them ilayhim and provide them wa-ur'zuq'hum with mina the fruits l-thamarāti so that they may laʿallahum be grateful yashkurūna
Our Lord, I have settled some of my descendants in an uncultivated valley near Your sacred House, our Lord, that they may establish prayer. So make hearts among the people incline toward them and provide for them from the fruits that they might be grateful.
رَبَّنَآ Our Lord rabbanā Indeed, You innaka You know taʿlamu what mā we conceal nukh'fī and what wamā we proclaim nuʿ'linu And not wamā (is) hidden yakhfā from ʿalā Allah l-lahi any min thing shayin in fī the earth l-arḍi and not walā in fī the heaven l-samāi
Our Lord, indeed You know what we conceal and what we declare, and nothing is hidden from Allāh on the earth or in the heaven.
ٱلْحَمْدُ All the Praise al-ḥamdu (is) for Allah lillahi the One Who alladhī has granted wahaba me lī in ʿalā the old age l-kibari Ishmael is'māʿīla and Isaac wa-is'ḥāqa Indeed inna my Lord rabbī (is) All-Hearer lasamīʿu (of) the prayer l-duʿāi
Praise to Allāh, who has granted to me in old age Ishmael and Isaac. Indeed, my Lord is the Hearer of supplication.
رَبِّ My Lord rabbi Make me ij'ʿalnī an establisher muqīma (of) the prayer l-ṣalati and from wamin my offsprings dhurriyyatī Our Lord rabbanā and accept wataqabbal my prayer duʿāi
My Lord, make me an establisher of prayer, and [many] from my descendants. Our Lord, and accept my supplication.
رَبَّنَا Our Lord rabbanā Forgive igh'fir me lī and my parents waliwālidayya and the believers walil'mu'minīna (on) the Day yawma will (be) established yaqūmu the account l-ḥisābu
Our Lord, forgive me and my parents and the believers the Day the account is established."
وَلَا And (do) not walā think taḥsabanna (that) Allah l-laha (is) unaware ghāfilan of what ʿammā do yaʿmalu the wrongdoers l-ẓālimūna Only innamā He gives them respite yu-akhiruhum to a Day liyawmin will stare tashkhaṣu in it fīhi the eyes l-abṣāru
And never think that Allāh is unaware of what the wrongdoers do. He only delays them [i.e., their account] for a Day when eyes will stare [in horror].
مُهْطِعِينَ Racing ahead muh'ṭiʿīna raised up muq'niʿī their heads ruūsihim not lā returning yartaddu towards them ilayhim their gaze ṭarfuhum and their hearts wa-afidatuhum (are) empty hawāon
Racing ahead, their heads raised up, their glance does not come back to them,1 and their hearts are void.
وَأَنذِرِ And warn wa-andhiri the mankind l-nāsa (of) a Day yawma (when) will come to them yatīhimu the punishment l-ʿadhābu then will say fayaqūlu those who alladhīna did wrong ẓalamū Our Lord rabbanā Respite us akhir'nā for ilā a term ajalin short qarībin we will answer nujib Your call daʿwataka and we will follow wanattabiʿi the Messengers l-rusula Had not awalam you takūnū sworn aqsamtum before min before qablu not mā for you lakum any min end zawālin
And, [O Muḥammad], warn the people of a Day when the punishment will come to them and those who did wrong will say, "Our Lord, delay us for a short term; we will answer Your call and follow the messengers." [But it will be said], "Had you not sworn, before, that for you there would be no cessation?1
وَسَكَنتُمْ And you dwelt wasakantum in fī the dwellings masākini (of) those who alladhīna wronged ẓalamū themselves anfusahum and it had become clear watabayyana to you lakum how kayfa We dealt faʿalnā with them bihim and We put forth waḍarabnā for you lakumu the examples l-amthāla
And you lived among the dwellings of those who wronged themselves, and it had become clear to you how We dealt with them. And We presented for you [many] examples."
وَقَدْ And indeed waqad they planned makarū their plan makrahum but with waʿinda Allah l-lahi (was) their plan makruhum even if wa-in was kāna their plan makruhum that should be moved litazūla by it min'hu the mountains l-jibālu
And they had planned their plan, but with Allāh is [recorded] their plan, even if their plan had been [sufficient] to do away with the mountains.1
فَلَا So (do) not falā think taḥsabanna (that) Allah l-laha will fail mukh'lifa (to) keep His Promise waʿdihi (to) His Messengers rusulahu Indeed inna Allah l-laha (is) All-Mighty ʿazīzun Owner (of) Retribution dhū Owner (of) Retribution intiqāmin
So never think that Allāh will fail in His promise to His messengers. Indeed, Allāh is Exalted in Might and Owner of Retribution.1
يَوْمَ (On the) Day yawma will be changed tubaddalu the earth l-arḍu (to) other (than) ghayra the earth l-arḍi and the heavens wal-samāwātu and they will come forth wabarazū before Allah lillahi the One l-wāḥidi the Irresistible l-qahāri
[It will be] on the Day the earth will be replaced by another earth, and the heavens [as well], and they [i.e., all creatures] will come out before Allāh, the One, the Prevailing,
وَتَرَى And you will see watarā the criminals l-muj'rimīna (on) that Day yawma-idhin bound together muqarranīna in fī the chains l-aṣfādi
And you will see the criminals that Day bound together in irons,
سَرَابِيلُهُم Their garments sarābīluhum of min tar qaṭirānin and will cover wataghshā their faces wujūhahumu the Fire l-nāru
Their garments of liquid pitch and their faces covered by the Fire
لِيَجْزِىَ So that Allah may recompense liyajziya So that Allah may recompense l-lahu each kulla soul nafsin (for) what mā it earned kasabat Indeed inna Allah l-laha (is) Swift sarīʿu (in) the reckoning l-ḥisābi
So that Allāh will recompense every soul for what it earned. Indeed, Allāh is swift in account.
هَـٰذَا This hādhā (is) a Message balāghun for the mankind lilnnāsi that they may be warned waliyundharū with it bihi and that they may know waliyaʿlamū that only annamā He huwa (is) One God ilāhun (is) One God wāḥidun and that may take heed waliyadhakkara men ulū (of) understanding l-albābi
This [Qur’ān] is notification for the people that they may be warned thereby and that they may know that He is but one God and that those of understanding will be reminded.
