Alif Laam Ra

alif-lam-ra

كِتَـٰبٌ

A Book

kitābun

أَنزَلْنَـٰهُ

which We have revealed

anzalnāhu

إِلَيْكَ

to you

ilayka

لِتُخْرِجَ

so that you may bring out

litukh'rija

ٱلنَّاسَ

the mankind

l-nāsa

مِنَ

from

mina

ٱلظُّلُمَـٰتِ

the darkness[es]

l-ẓulumāti

إِلَى

to

ilā

ٱلنُّورِ

the light

l-nūri

بِإِذْنِ

by the permission

bi-idh'ni

رَبِّهِمْ

(of) their Lord

rabbihim

إِلَىٰ

to

ilā

صِرَٰطِ

the Path

ṣirāṭi

ٱلْعَزِيزِ

(of) the All-Mighty

l-ʿazīzi

ٱلْحَمِيدِ

the Praiseworthy

l-ḥamīdi

١

Alif, Lām, Rā.1 [This is] a Book which We have revealed to you, [O Muḥammad], that you might bring mankind out of darknesses into the light by permission of their Lord - to the path of the Exalted in Might, the Praiseworthy -

— Saheeh International

ٱللَّهِ

Allah

al-lahi

ٱلَّذِى

(is) the One

alladhī

لَهُۥ

to Him (belongs)

lahu

مَا

whatever

فِى

(is) in

ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ

the heavens

l-samāwāti

وَمَا

and whatever

wamā

فِى

(is) in

ٱلْأَرْضِ ۗ

the earth

l-arḍi

وَوَيْلٌۭ

And woe

wawaylun

لِّلْكَـٰفِرِينَ

to the disbelievers

lil'kāfirīna

مِنْ

from

min

عَذَابٍۢ

the punishment

ʿadhābin

شَدِيدٍ

severe

shadīdin

٢

Allāh, to whom belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth. And woe [i.e., destruction] to the disbelievers from a severe punishment -

— Saheeh International

ٱلَّذِينَ

Those who

alladhīna

يَسْتَحِبُّونَ

love more

yastaḥibbūna

ٱلْحَيَوٰةَ

the life

l-ḥayata

ٱلدُّنْيَا

(of) the world

l-dun'yā

عَلَى

than

ʿalā

ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ

the Hereafter

l-ākhirati

وَيَصُدُّونَ

and hinder

wayaṣuddūna

عَن

from

ʿan

سَبِيلِ

(the) Path

sabīli

ٱللَّهِ

(of) Allah

l-lahi

وَيَبْغُونَهَا

and seek in it

wayabghūnahā

عِوَجًا ۚ

crookedness

ʿiwajan

أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ

those

ulāika

فِى

[in]

ضَلَـٰلٍۭ

(are) far astray

ḍalālin

بَعِيدٍۢ

(are) far astray

baʿīdin

٣

The ones who prefer the worldly life over the Hereafter and avert [people] from the way of Allāh, seeking to make it [seem] deviant. Those are in extreme error.

— Saheeh International

وَمَآ

And not

wamā

أَرْسَلْنَا

We sent

arsalnā

مِن

any

min

رَّسُولٍ

Messenger

rasūlin

إِلَّا

except

illā

بِلِسَانِ

with the language

bilisāni

قَوْمِهِۦ

(of) his people

qawmihi

لِيُبَيِّنَ

so that he might make clear

liyubayyina

لَهُمْ ۖ

for them

lahum

فَيُضِلُّ

Then Allah lets go astray

fayuḍillu

ٱللَّهُ

Then Allah lets go astray

l-lahu

مَن

whom

man

يَشَآءُ

He wills

yashāu

وَيَهْدِى

and guides

wayahdī

مَن

whom

man

يَشَآءُ ۚ

He wills

yashāu

وَهُوَ

And He

wahuwa

ٱلْعَزِيزُ

(is) the All-Mighty

l-ʿazīzu

ٱلْحَكِيمُ

the All-Wise

l-ḥakīmu

٤

And We did not send any messenger except [speaking] in the language of his people to state clearly for them, and Allāh sends astray [thereby] whom He wills1 and guides whom He wills. And He is the Exalted in Might, the Wise.

— Saheeh International

وَلَقَدْ

And verily

walaqad

أَرْسَلْنَا

We sent

arsalnā

مُوسَىٰ

Musa

mūsā

بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَآ

with Our Signs

biāyātinā

أَنْ

that

an

أَخْرِجْ

Bring out

akhrij

قَوْمَكَ

your people

qawmaka

مِنَ

from

mina

ٱلظُّلُمَـٰتِ

the darkness[es]

l-ẓulumāti

إِلَى

to

ilā

ٱلنُّورِ

the light

l-nūri

وَذَكِّرْهُم

And remind them

wadhakkir'hum

بِأَيَّىٰمِ

of the days

bi-ayyāmi

ٱللَّهِ ۚ

(of) Allah

l-lahi

إِنَّ

Indeed

inna

فِى

in

ذَٰلِكَ

that

dhālika

لَـَٔايَـٰتٍۢ

surely (are) the signs

laāyātin

لِّكُلِّ

for everyone

likulli

صَبَّارٍۢ

patient

ṣabbārin

شَكُورٍۢ

and thankful

shakūrin

٥

And We certainly sent Moses with Our signs, [saying], "Bring out your people from darknesses into the light and remind them of the days1 of Allāh." Indeed in that are signs for everyone patient and grateful.

— Saheeh International

وَإِذْ

And when

wa-idh

قَالَ

said

qāla

مُوسَىٰ

Musa

mūsā

لِقَوْمِهِ

to his people

liqawmihi

ٱذْكُرُوا۟

Remember

udh'kurū

نِعْمَةَ

(the) Favor of Allah

niʿ'mata

ٱللَّهِ

(the) Favor of Allah

l-lahi

عَلَيْكُمْ

upon you

ʿalaykum

إِذْ

when

idh

أَنجَىٰكُم

He saved you

anjākum

مِّنْ

from

min

ءَالِ

(the) people

āli

فِرْعَوْنَ

(of) Firaun

fir'ʿawna

يَسُومُونَكُمْ

they were afflicting you

yasūmūnakum

سُوٓءَ

(with) evil

sūa

ٱلْعَذَابِ

torment

l-ʿadhābi

وَيُذَبِّحُونَ

and were slaughtering

wayudhabbiḥūna

أَبْنَآءَكُمْ

your sons

abnāakum

وَيَسْتَحْيُونَ

and letting live

wayastaḥyūna

نِسَآءَكُمْ ۚ

your women

nisāakum

وَفِى

And in

wafī

ذَٰلِكُم

that

dhālikum

بَلَآءٌۭ

(was) a trial

balāon

مِّن

from

min

رَّبِّكُمْ

your Lord

rabbikum

عَظِيمٌۭ

great

ʿaẓīmun

٦

And [recall, O Children of Israel], when Moses said to his people, "Remember the favor of Allāh upon you when He saved you from the people of Pharaoh, who were afflicting you with the worst torment and were slaughtering your [newborn] sons and keeping your females alive. And in that was a great trial from your Lord.

— Saheeh International

وَإِذْ

And when

wa-idh

تَأَذَّنَ

proclaimed

ta-adhana

رَبُّكُمْ

your Lord

rabbukum

لَئِن

If

la-in

شَكَرْتُمْ

you are thankful

shakartum

لَأَزِيدَنَّكُمْ ۖ

surely I will increase you

la-azīdannakum

وَلَئِن

but if

wala-in

كَفَرْتُمْ

you are ungrateful

kafartum

إِنَّ

indeed

inna

عَذَابِى

My punishment

ʿadhābī

لَشَدِيدٌۭ

(is) surely severe

lashadīdun

٧

And [remember] when your Lord proclaimed, 'If you are grateful, I will surely increase you [in favor]; but if you deny, indeed, My punishment is severe.'"

— Saheeh International

وَقَالَ

And said

waqāla

مُوسَىٰٓ

Musa

mūsā

إِن

If

in

تَكْفُرُوٓا۟

you disbelieve

takfurū

أَنتُمْ

you

antum

وَمَن

and whoever

waman

فِى

(is) in

ٱلْأَرْضِ

the earth

l-arḍi

جَمِيعًۭا

all

jamīʿan

فَإِنَّ

then indeed

fa-inna

ٱللَّهَ

Allah

l-laha

لَغَنِىٌّ

certainly (is) Free of need

laghaniyyun

حَمِيدٌ

Praiseworthy

ḥamīdun

٨

And Moses said, "If you should disbelieve, you and whoever is on the earth entirely - indeed, Allāh is Free of need and Praiseworthy."

— Saheeh International

أَلَمْ

Has not

alam

يَأْتِكُمْ

come to you

yatikum

نَبَؤُا۟

(the) news

naba-u

ٱلَّذِينَ

(of) those who

alladhīna

مِن

(were) before you

min

قَبْلِكُمْ

(were) before you

qablikum

قَوْمِ

the people

qawmi

نُوحٍۢ

of Nuh

nūḥin

وَعَادٍۢ

and Aad

waʿādin

وَثَمُودَ ۛ

and Thamud

wathamūda

وَٱلَّذِينَ

and those who

wa-alladhīna

مِنۢ

(were) after them

min

بَعْدِهِمْ ۛ

(were) after them

baʿdihim

لَا

None

يَعْلَمُهُمْ

knows them

yaʿlamuhum

إِلَّا

except

illā

ٱللَّهُ ۚ

Allah

l-lahu

جَآءَتْهُمْ

Came to them

jāathum

رُسُلُهُم

their Messengers

rusuluhum

بِٱلْبَيِّنَـٰتِ

with clear proofs

bil-bayināti

فَرَدُّوٓا۟

but they returned

faraddū

أَيْدِيَهُمْ

their hands

aydiyahum

فِىٓ

in

أَفْوَٰهِهِمْ

their mouths

afwāhihim

وَقَالُوٓا۟

and they said

waqālū

إِنَّا

Indeed we

innā

كَفَرْنَا

[we] disbelieve

kafarnā

بِمَآ

in what

bimā

أُرْسِلْتُم

you have been sent

ur'sil'tum

بِهِۦ

with [it]

bihi

وَإِنَّا

and indeed, we

wa-innā

لَفِى

(are) surely in

lafī

شَكٍّۢ

doubt

shakkin

مِّمَّا

about what

mimmā

تَدْعُونَنَآ

you invite us

tadʿūnanā

إِلَيْهِ

to it

ilayhi

مُرِيبٍۢ

suspicious

murībin

٩

Has there not reached you the news of those before you - the people of Noah and ʿAad and Thamūd and those after them? No one knows them [i.e., their number] but Allāh. Their messengers brought them clear proofs, but they returned their hands to their mouths1 and said, "Indeed, we disbelieve in that with which you have been sent, and indeed we are, about that to which you invite us, in disquieting doubt."

— Saheeh International

۞ قَالَتْ

Said

qālat

رُسُلُهُمْ

their Messengers

rusuluhum

أَفِى

Can (there) be about

afī

ٱللَّهِ

Allah

l-lahi

شَكٌّۭ

any doubt

shakkun

فَاطِرِ

(the) Creator

fāṭiri

ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ

(of) the heavens

l-samāwāti

وَٱلْأَرْضِ ۖ

and the earth

wal-arḍi

يَدْعُوكُمْ

He invites you

yadʿūkum

لِيَغْفِرَ

so that He may forgive

liyaghfira

لَكُم

for you

lakum

مِّن

[of]

min

ذُنُوبِكُمْ

your sins

dhunūbikum

وَيُؤَخِّرَكُمْ

and give you respite

wayu-akhirakum

إِلَىٰٓ

for

ilā

أَجَلٍۢ

a term

ajalin

مُّسَمًّۭى ۚ

appointed

musamman

قَالُوٓا۟

They said

qālū

إِنْ

Not

in

أَنتُمْ

you

antum

إِلَّا

(are) but

illā

بَشَرٌۭ

a human

basharun

مِّثْلُنَا

like us

mith'lunā

تُرِيدُونَ

you wish

turīdūna

أَن

to

an

تَصُدُّونَا

hinder us

taṣuddūnā

عَمَّا

from what

ʿammā

كَانَ

used to

kāna

يَعْبُدُ

worship

yaʿbudu

ءَابَآؤُنَا

our forefathers

ābāunā

فَأْتُونَا

So bring us

fatūnā

بِسُلْطَـٰنٍۢ

an authority

bisul'ṭānin

مُّبِينٍۢ

clear

mubīnin

١٠

Their messengers said, "Can there be doubt about Allāh, Creator of the heavens and earth? He invites you that He may forgive you of your sins, and He delays you [i.e., your death] for a specified term." They said, "You are not but men like us who wish to avert us from what our fathers were worshipping. So bring us a clear authority [i.e., evidence]."

— Saheeh International

قَالَتْ

Said

qālat

لَهُمْ

to them

lahum

رُسُلُهُمْ

their Messengers

rusuluhum

إِن

Not

in

نَّحْنُ

we (are)

naḥnu

إِلَّا

but

illā

بَشَرٌۭ

a human

basharun

مِّثْلُكُمْ

like you

mith'lukum

وَلَـٰكِنَّ

but

walākinna

ٱللَّهَ

Allah

l-laha

يَمُنُّ

bestows His Grace

yamunnu

عَلَىٰ

on

ʿalā

مَن

whom

man

يَشَآءُ

He wills

yashāu

مِنْ

of

min

عِبَادِهِۦ ۖ

His slaves

ʿibādihi

وَمَا

And not

wamā

كَانَ

is

kāna

لَنَآ

for us

lanā

أَن

that

an

نَّأْتِيَكُم

we bring you

natiyakum

بِسُلْطَـٰنٍ

an authority

bisul'ṭānin

إِلَّا

except

illā

بِإِذْنِ

by the permission of Allah

bi-idh'ni

ٱللَّهِ ۚ

by the permission of Allah

l-lahi

وَعَلَى

And upon

waʿalā

ٱللَّهِ

Allah

l-lahi

فَلْيَتَوَكَّلِ

so let put (their) trust

falyatawakkali

ٱلْمُؤْمِنُونَ

the believers

l-mu'minūna

١١

Their messengers said to them, "We are only men like you, but Allāh confers favor upon whom He wills of His servants. It has never been for us to bring you evidence except by permission of Allāh. And upon Allāh let the believers rely.

— Saheeh International

وَمَا

And what

wamā

لَنَآ

(is) for us

lanā

أَلَّا

that not

allā

نَتَوَكَّلَ

we put our trust

natawakkala

عَلَى

upon

ʿalā

ٱللَّهِ

Allah

l-lahi

وَقَدْ

while certainly

waqad

هَدَىٰنَا

He has guided us

hadānā

سُبُلَنَا ۚ

to our ways

subulanā

وَلَنَصْبِرَنَّ

And surely we will bear with patience

walanaṣbiranna

عَلَىٰ

on

ʿalā

مَآ

what

ءَاذَيْتُمُونَا ۚ

harm you may cause us

ādhaytumūnā

وَعَلَى

And upon

waʿalā

ٱللَّهِ

Allah

l-lahi

فَلْيَتَوَكَّلِ

so let put (their) trust

falyatawakkali

ٱلْمُتَوَكِّلُونَ

the ones who put (their) trust

l-mutawakilūna

١٢

And why should we not rely upon Allāh while He has guided us to our [good] ways. And we will surely be patient against whatever harm you should cause us. And upon Allāh let those who would rely [indeed] rely."

— Saheeh International

وَقَالَ

And said

waqāla

ٱلَّذِينَ

those who

alladhīna

كَفَرُوا۟

disbelieved

kafarū

لِرُسُلِهِمْ

to their Messengers

lirusulihim

لَنُخْرِجَنَّكُم

Surely we will drive you out

lanukh'rijannakum

مِّنْ

of

min

أَرْضِنَآ

our land

arḍinā

أَوْ

or

aw

لَتَعُودُنَّ

surely you should return

lataʿūdunna

فِى

to

مِلَّتِنَا ۖ

our religion

millatinā

فَأَوْحَىٰٓ

So inspired

fa-awḥā

إِلَيْهِمْ

to them

ilayhim

رَبُّهُمْ

their Lord

rabbuhum

لَنُهْلِكَنَّ

We will surely destroy

lanuh'likanna

ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ

the wrongdoers

l-ẓālimīna

١٣

And those who disbelieved said to their messengers, "We will surely drive you out of our land, or you must return to our religion." So their Lord inspired to them, "We will surely destroy the wrongdoers.

— Saheeh International

وَلَنُسْكِنَنَّكُمُ

And surely We will make you dwell

walanus'kinannakumu

ٱلْأَرْضَ

(in) the land

l-arḍa

مِنۢ

after them

min

بَعْدِهِمْ ۚ

after them

baʿdihim

ذَٰلِكَ

That

dhālika

لِمَنْ

(is) for whoever

liman

خَافَ

fears

khāfa

مَقَامِى

standing before Me

maqāmī

وَخَافَ

and fears

wakhāfa

وَعِيدِ

My Threat

waʿīdi

١٤

And We will surely cause you to dwell in the land after them. That is for he who fears My position1 and fears My threat."

— Saheeh International

وَٱسْتَفْتَحُوا۟

And they sought victory

wa-is'taftaḥū

وَخَابَ

and disappointed

wakhāba

كُلُّ

every

kullu

جَبَّارٍ

tyrant

jabbārin

عَنِيدٍۢ

obstinate

ʿanīdin

١٥

And they requested decision [i.e., victory from Allāh], and disappointed, [therefore], was every obstinate tyrant.

— Saheeh International

مِّن

of him

min

وَرَآئِهِۦ

Ahead

warāihi

جَهَنَّمُ

(is) Hell

jahannamu

وَيُسْقَىٰ

and he will be made to drink

wayus'qā

مِن

of

min

مَّآءٍۢ

water

māin

صَدِيدٍۢ

purulent

ṣadīdin

١٦

Before him1 is Hell, and he will be given a drink of purulent water.2

— Saheeh International

يَتَجَرَّعُهُۥ

He will sip it

yatajarraʿuhu

وَلَا

but not

walā

يَكَادُ

he will be near

yakādu

يُسِيغُهُۥ

(to) swallowing it

yusīghuhu

وَيَأْتِيهِ

And will come to him

wayatīhi

ٱلْمَوْتُ

the death

l-mawtu

مِن

from

min

كُلِّ

every

kulli

مَكَانٍۢ

side

makānin

وَمَا

but not

wamā

هُوَ

he

huwa

بِمَيِّتٍۢ ۖ

will die

bimayyitin

وَمِن

And ahead of him

wamin

وَرَآئِهِۦ

And ahead of him

warāihi

عَذَابٌ

(is) a punishment

ʿadhābun

غَلِيظٌۭ

harsh

ghalīẓun

١٧

He will gulp it but will hardly [be able to] swallow it. And death will come to him from everywhere, but he is not to die. And before him is a massive punishment.

— Saheeh International

مَّثَلُ

(The) example

mathalu

ٱلَّذِينَ

(of) those who

alladhīna

كَفَرُوا۟

disbelieve

kafarū

بِرَبِّهِمْ ۖ

in their Lord

birabbihim

أَعْمَـٰلُهُمْ

their deeds

aʿmāluhum

كَرَمَادٍ

(are) like ashes

karamādin

ٱشْتَدَّتْ

blows furiously

ish'taddat

بِهِ

on it

bihi

ٱلرِّيحُ

the wind

l-rīḥu

فِى

in

يَوْمٍ

a day

yawmin

عَاصِفٍۢ ۖ

stormy

ʿāṣifin

لَّا

No

يَقْدِرُونَ

control (they have)

yaqdirūna

مِمَّا

of what

mimmā

كَسَبُوا۟

they have earned

kasabū

عَلَىٰ

شَىْءٍۢ ۚ

anything

shayin

ذَٰلِكَ

That

dhālika

هُوَ

[it]

huwa

ٱلضَّلَـٰلُ

(is) the straying

l-ḍalālu

ٱلْبَعِيدُ

far

l-baʿīdu

١٨

The example of those who disbelieve in their Lord is [that] their deeds are like ashes which the wind blows forcefully on a stormy day; they are unable [to keep] from what they earned a [single] thing. That is what is extreme error.

— Saheeh International

أَلَمْ

Do not

alam

تَرَ

you see

tara

أَنَّ

that

anna

ٱللَّهَ

Allah

l-laha

خَلَقَ

created

khalaqa

ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ

the heavens

l-samāwāti

وَٱلْأَرْضَ

and the earth

wal-arḍa

بِٱلْحَقِّ ۚ

in truth

bil-ḥaqi

إِن

If

in

يَشَأْ

He wills

yasha

يُذْهِبْكُمْ

He can remove you

yudh'hib'kum

وَيَأْتِ

and bring

wayati

بِخَلْقٍۢ

a creation

bikhalqin

جَدِيدٍۢ

new

jadīdin

١٩

Have you not seen [i.e., considered] that Allāh created the heavens and the earth in truth? If He wills, He can do away with you and produce a new creation.

— Saheeh International

وَمَا

And not

wamā

ذَٰلِكَ

(is) that

dhālika

عَلَى

on

ʿalā

ٱللَّهِ

Allah

l-lahi

بِعَزِيزٍۢ

great

biʿazīzin

٢٠

And that is not difficult for Allāh.

— Saheeh International

وَبَرَزُوا۟

And they will come forth

wabarazū

لِلَّهِ

before Allah

lillahi

جَمِيعًۭا

all together

jamīʿan

فَقَالَ

then will say

faqāla

ٱلضُّعَفَـٰٓؤُا۟

the weak

l-ḍuʿafāu

لِلَّذِينَ

to those who

lilladhīna

ٱسْتَكْبَرُوٓا۟

were arrogant

is'takbarū

إِنَّا

Indeed we

innā

كُنَّا

we were

kunnā

لَكُمْ

your

lakum

تَبَعًۭا

followers

tabaʿan

فَهَلْ

so can

fahal

أَنتُم

you (be)

antum

مُّغْنُونَ

the one who avails

mugh'nūna

عَنَّا

us

ʿannā

مِنْ

from

min

عَذَابِ

(the) punishment

ʿadhābi

ٱللَّهِ

(of) Allah

l-lahi

مِن

anything

min

شَىْءٍۢ ۚ

anything

shayin

قَالُوا۟

They will say

qālū

لَوْ

If

law

هَدَىٰنَا

Allah had guided us

hadānā

ٱللَّهُ

Allah had guided us

l-lahu

لَهَدَيْنَـٰكُمْ ۖ

surely we would have guided you

lahadaynākum

سَوَآءٌ

(It is) same

sawāon

عَلَيْنَآ

for us

ʿalaynā

أَجَزِعْنَآ

whether we show intolerance

ajaziʿ'nā

أَمْ

or

am

صَبَرْنَا

we are patient

ṣabarnā

مَا

not

لَنَا

(is) for us

lanā

مِن

any

min

مَّحِيصٍۢ

place of escape

maḥīṣin

٢١

And they will come out [for judgement] before Allāh all together, and the weak will say to those who were arrogant, "Indeed, we were your followers, so can you avail us anything against the punishment of Allāh?" They will say, "If Allāh had guided us, we would have guided you. It is all the same for us whether we show intolerance or are patient: there is for us no place of escape."

— Saheeh International

وَقَالَ

And will say

waqāla

ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنُ

the Shaitaan

l-shayṭānu

لَمَّا

when

lammā

قُضِىَ

has been decided

quḍiya

ٱلْأَمْرُ

the matter

l-amru

إِنَّ

Indeed

inna

ٱللَّهَ

Allah

l-laha

وَعَدَكُمْ

promised you

waʿadakum

وَعْدَ

a promise

waʿda

ٱلْحَقِّ

(of) truth

l-ḥaqi

وَوَعَدتُّكُمْ

And I promised you

wawaʿadttukum

فَأَخْلَفْتُكُمْ ۖ

but I betrayed you

fa-akhlaftukum

وَمَا

But not

wamā

كَانَ

I had

kāna

لِىَ

I had

liya

عَلَيْكُم

over you

ʿalaykum

مِّن

any

min

سُلْطَـٰنٍ

authority

sul'ṭānin

إِلَّآ

except

illā

أَن

that

an

دَعَوْتُكُمْ

I invited you

daʿawtukum

فَٱسْتَجَبْتُمْ

and you responded

fa-is'tajabtum

لِى ۖ

to me

فَلَا

So (do) not

falā

تَلُومُونِى

blame me

talūmūnī

وَلُومُوٓا۟

but blame

walūmū

أَنفُسَكُم ۖ

yourselves

anfusakum

مَّآ

Not

أَنَا۠

(can) I

anā

بِمُصْرِخِكُمْ

(be) your helper

bimuṣ'rikhikum

وَمَآ

and not

wamā

أَنتُم

you (can)

antum

بِمُصْرِخِىَّ ۖ

(be) my helper

bimuṣ'rikhiyya

إِنِّى

Indeed, I

innī

كَفَرْتُ

deny

kafartu

بِمَآ

[of what]

bimā

أَشْرَكْتُمُونِ

your association of me (with Allah)

ashraktumūni

مِن

before

min

قَبْلُ ۗ

before

qablu

إِنَّ

Indeed

inna

ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ

the wrongdoers

l-ẓālimīna

لَهُمْ

for them

lahum

عَذَابٌ

(is) a punishment

ʿadhābun

أَلِيمٌۭ

painful

alīmun

٢٢

And Satan will say when the matter has been concluded, "Indeed, Allāh had promised you the promise of truth. And I promised you, but I betrayed you. But I had no authority over you except that I invited you, and you responded to me. So do not blame me; but blame yourselves. I cannot be called to your aid, nor can you be called to my aid. Indeed, I deny your association of me [with Allāh] before.1 Indeed, for the wrongdoers is a painful punishment."

— Saheeh International

وَأُدْخِلَ

And will be admitted

wa-ud'khila

ٱلَّذِينَ

those who

alladhīna

ءَامَنُوا۟

believed

āmanū

وَعَمِلُوا۟

and did

waʿamilū

ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ

righteous deeds

l-ṣāliḥāti

جَنَّـٰتٍۢ

(to) Gardens

jannātin

تَجْرِى

flows

tajrī

مِن

from

min

تَحْتِهَا

underneath it

taḥtihā

ٱلْأَنْهَـٰرُ

the rivers

l-anhāru

خَـٰلِدِينَ

(will) abide forever

khālidīna

فِيهَا

in it

fīhā

بِإِذْنِ

by the permission

bi-idh'ni

رَبِّهِمْ ۖ

(of) their Lord

rabbihim

تَحِيَّتُهُمْ

their greetings

taḥiyyatuhum

فِيهَا

therein

fīhā

سَلَـٰمٌ

(will be) peace

salāmun

٢٣

And those who believed and did righteous deeds will be admitted to gardens beneath which rivers flow, abiding eternally therein by permission of their Lord; and their greeting therein will be, "Peace!"

— Saheeh International

أَلَمْ

Do not

alam

تَرَ

you see

tara

كَيْفَ

how

kayfa

ضَرَبَ

Allah sets forth

ḍaraba

ٱللَّهُ

Allah sets forth

l-lahu

مَثَلًۭا

the example

mathalan

كَلِمَةًۭ

a word

kalimatan

طَيِّبَةًۭ

good

ṭayyibatan

كَشَجَرَةٍۢ

(is) like a tree

kashajaratin

طَيِّبَةٍ

good

ṭayyibatin

أَصْلُهَا

its root

aṣluhā

ثَابِتٌۭ

(is) firm

thābitun

وَفَرْعُهَا

and its branches

wafarʿuhā

فِى

(are) in

ٱلسَّمَآءِ

the sky

l-samāi

٢٤

Have you not considered how Allāh presents an example, [making] a good word like a good tree, whose root is firmly fixed and its branches [high] in the sky?

— Saheeh International

تُؤْتِىٓ

Giving

tu'tī

أُكُلَهَا

its fruit

ukulahā

كُلَّ

all

kulla

حِينٍۭ

time

ḥīnin

بِإِذْنِ

by the permission

bi-idh'ni

رَبِّهَا ۗ

of its Lord

rabbihā

وَيَضْرِبُ

And Allah sets forth

wayaḍribu

ٱللَّهُ

And Allah sets forth

l-lahu

ٱلْأَمْثَالَ

the examples

l-amthāla

لِلنَّاسِ

for mankind

lilnnāsi

لَعَلَّهُمْ

so that they may

laʿallahum

يَتَذَكَّرُونَ

remember

yatadhakkarūna

٢٥

It produces its fruit all the time, by permission of its Lord. And Allāh presents examples for the people that perhaps they will be reminded.

— Saheeh International

وَمَثَلُ

And (the) example

wamathalu

كَلِمَةٍ

(of) a word

kalimatin

خَبِيثَةٍۢ

evil

khabīthatin

كَشَجَرَةٍ

(is) like a tree

kashajaratin

خَبِيثَةٍ

evil

khabīthatin

ٱجْتُثَّتْ

uprooted

uj'tuthat

مِن

from

min

فَوْقِ

the surface

fawqi

ٱلْأَرْضِ

(of) the earth

l-arḍi

مَا

not

لَهَا

for it

lahā

مِن

(is) any

min

قَرَارٍۢ

stability

qarārin

٢٦

And the example of a bad word is like a bad tree, uprooted from the surface of the earth, not having any stability.

— Saheeh International

يُثَبِّتُ

Allah keeps firm

yuthabbitu

ٱللَّهُ

Allah keeps firm

l-lahu

ٱلَّذِينَ

those who

alladhīna

ءَامَنُوا۟

believe

āmanū

بِٱلْقَوْلِ

with the firm word

bil-qawli

ٱلثَّابِتِ

with the firm word

l-thābiti

فِى

in

ٱلْحَيَوٰةِ

the life

l-ḥayati

ٱلدُّنْيَا

(of) the world

l-dun'yā

وَفِى

and in

wafī

ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ ۖ

the Hereafter

l-ākhirati

وَيُضِلُّ

And Allah lets go astray

wayuḍillu

ٱللَّهُ

And Allah lets go astray

l-lahu

ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ ۚ

the wrongdoers

l-ẓālimīna

وَيَفْعَلُ

And Allah does

wayafʿalu

ٱللَّهُ

And Allah does

l-lahu

مَا

what

يَشَآءُ

He wills

yashāu

٢٧

Allāh keeps firm those who believe, with the firm word,1 in worldly life and in the Hereafter.2 And Allāh sends astray the wrongdoers. And Allāh does what He wills.

— Saheeh International

۞ أَلَمْ

Have not

alam

تَرَ

you seen

tara

إِلَى

[to]

ilā

ٱلَّذِينَ

those who

alladhīna

بَدَّلُوا۟

(have) changed

baddalū

نِعْمَتَ

(the) Favor

niʿ'mata

ٱللَّهِ

(of) Allah

l-lahi

كُفْرًۭا

(for) disbelief

kuf'ran

وَأَحَلُّوا۟

and they led

wa-aḥallū

قَوْمَهُمْ

their people

qawmahum

دَارَ

(to the) house

dāra

ٱلْبَوَارِ

(of) destruction

l-bawāri

٢٨

Have you not considered those who exchanged the favor of Allāh for disbelief1 and settled their people [in] the home of ruin?

— Saheeh International

جَهَنَّمَ

Hell

jahannama

يَصْلَوْنَهَا ۖ

(in) it they will burn

yaṣlawnahā

وَبِئْسَ

and a wretched

wabi'sa

ٱلْقَرَارُ

place to settle

l-qarāru

٢٩

[It is] Hell, which they will [enter to] burn, and wretched is the settlement.

— Saheeh International

وَجَعَلُوا۟

And they set up

wajaʿalū

لِلَّهِ

to Allah

lillahi

أَندَادًۭا

equals

andādan

لِّيُضِلُّوا۟

so that they mislead

liyuḍillū

عَن

from

ʿan

سَبِيلِهِۦ ۗ

His Path

sabīlihi

قُلْ

Say

qul

تَمَتَّعُوا۟

Enjoy

tamattaʿū

فَإِنَّ

but indeed

fa-inna

مَصِيرَكُمْ

your destination

maṣīrakum

إِلَى

(is) to

ilā

ٱلنَّارِ

the Fire

l-nāri

٣٠

And they have attributed to Allāh equals to mislead [people] from His way. Say, "Enjoy yourselves, for indeed, your destination is the Fire."

— Saheeh International

قُل

Say

qul

لِّعِبَادِىَ

to My slaves

liʿibādiya

ٱلَّذِينَ

those who

alladhīna

ءَامَنُوا۟

believe

āmanū

يُقِيمُوا۟

(to) establish

yuqīmū

ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ

the prayers

l-ṣalata

وَيُنفِقُوا۟

and (to) spend

wayunfiqū

مِمَّا

from what

mimmā

رَزَقْنَـٰهُمْ

We have provided them

razaqnāhum

سِرًّۭا

secretly

sirran

وَعَلَانِيَةًۭ

and publicly

waʿalāniyatan

مِّن

before

min

قَبْلِ

before

qabli

أَن

[that]

an

يَأْتِىَ

comes

yatiya

يَوْمٌۭ

a Day

yawmun

لَّا

not

بَيْعٌۭ

any trade

bayʿun

فِيهِ

in it

fīhi

وَلَا

and not

walā

خِلَـٰلٌ

any friendship

khilālun

٣١

[O Muḥammad], tell My servants who have believed to establish prayer and spend from what We have provided them, secretly and publicly, before a Day comes in which there will be no exchange [i.e., ransom], nor any friendships.

— Saheeh International

ٱللَّهُ

Allah

al-lahu

ٱلَّذِى

(is) the One Who

alladhī

خَلَقَ

created

khalaqa

ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ

the heavens

l-samāwāti

وَٱلْأَرْضَ

and the earth

wal-arḍa

وَأَنزَلَ

and sent down

wa-anzala

مِنَ

from

mina

ٱلسَّمَآءِ

the sky

l-samāi

مَآءًۭ

water

māan

فَأَخْرَجَ

then brought forth

fa-akhraja

بِهِۦ

from it

bihi

مِنَ

of

mina

ٱلثَّمَرَٰتِ

the fruits

l-thamarāti

رِزْقًۭا

(as) a provision

riz'qan

لَّكُمْ ۖ

for you

lakum

وَسَخَّرَ

and subjected

wasakhara

لَكُمُ

for you

lakumu

ٱلْفُلْكَ

the ships

l-ful'ka

لِتَجْرِىَ

so that they may sail

litajriya

فِى

in

ٱلْبَحْرِ

the sea

l-baḥri

بِأَمْرِهِۦ ۖ

by His command

bi-amrihi

وَسَخَّرَ

and subjected

wasakhara

لَكُمُ

for you

lakumu

ٱلْأَنْهَـٰرَ

the rivers

l-anhāra

٣٢

It is Allāh who created the heavens and the earth and sent down rain from the sky and produced thereby some fruits as provision for you and subjected for you1 the ships to sail through the sea by His command and subjected for you the rivers.

— Saheeh International

وَسَخَّرَ

And He subjected

wasakhara

لَكُمُ

for you

lakumu

ٱلشَّمْسَ

the sun

l-shamsa

وَٱلْقَمَرَ

and the moon

wal-qamara

دَآئِبَيْنِ ۖ

both constantly pursuing their courses

dāibayni

وَسَخَّرَ

and subjected

wasakhara

لَكُمُ

for you

lakumu

ٱلَّيْلَ

the night

al-layla

وَٱلنَّهَارَ

and the day

wal-nahāra

٣٣

And He subjected for you the sun and the moon, continuous [in orbit], and subjected for you the night and the day.

— Saheeh International

وَءَاتَىٰكُم

And He gave you

waātākum

مِّن

of

min

كُلِّ

all

kulli

مَا

what

سَأَلْتُمُوهُ ۚ

you asked of Him

sa-altumūhu

وَإِن

And if

wa-in

تَعُدُّوا۟

you count

taʿuddū

نِعْمَتَ

(the) Favor of Allah

niʿ'mata

ٱللَّهِ

(the) Favor of Allah

l-lahi

لَا

not

تُحْصُوهَآ ۗ

you will (be able to) count them

tuḥ'ṣūhā

إِنَّ

Indeed

inna

ٱلْإِنسَـٰنَ

the mankind

l-insāna

لَظَلُومٌۭ

(is) surely unjust

laẓalūmun

كَفَّارٌۭ

(and) ungrateful

kaffārun

٣٤

And He gave you from all you asked of Him.1 And if you should count the favor [i.e., blessings] of Allāh, you could not enumerate them. Indeed, mankind is [generally] most unjust and ungrateful.2

— Saheeh International

وَإِذْ

And when

wa-idh

قَالَ

said

qāla

إِبْرَٰهِيمُ

Ibrahim

ib'rāhīmu

رَبِّ

My Lord

rabbi

ٱجْعَلْ

Make

ij'ʿal

هَـٰذَا

this

hādhā

ٱلْبَلَدَ

city

l-balada

ءَامِنًۭا

safe

āminan

وَٱجْنُبْنِى

and keep me away

wa-uj'nub'nī

وَبَنِىَّ

and my sons

wabaniyya

أَن

that

an

نَّعْبُدَ

we worship

naʿbuda

ٱلْأَصْنَامَ

the idols

l-aṣnāma

٣٥

And [mention, O Muḥammad], when Abraham said, "My Lord, make this city [i.e., Makkah] secure and keep me and my sons away from worshipping idols.

— Saheeh International

رَبِّ

My Lord

rabbi

إِنَّهُنَّ

Indeed, they

innahunna

أَضْلَلْنَ

have led astray

aḍlalna

كَثِيرًۭا

many

kathīran

مِّنَ

among

mina

ٱلنَّاسِ ۖ

the mankind

l-nāsi

فَمَن

So whoever

faman

تَبِعَنِى

follows me

tabiʿanī

فَإِنَّهُۥ

then indeed, he

fa-innahu

مِنِّى ۖ

(is) of me

minnī

وَمَنْ

and whoever

waman

عَصَانِى

disobeys me

ʿaṣānī

فَإِنَّكَ

then indeed, You

fa-innaka

غَفُورٌۭ

(are) Oft-Forgiving

ghafūrun

رَّحِيمٌۭ

Most Merciful

raḥīmun

٣٦

My Lord, indeed they have led astray many among the people. So whoever follows me - then he is of me;1 and whoever disobeys me - indeed, You are [yet] Forgiving and Merciful.

— Saheeh International

رَّبَّنَآ

Our Lord

rabbanā

إِنِّىٓ

Indeed, I

innī

أَسْكَنتُ

[I] have settled

askantu

مِن

(some) of

min

ذُرِّيَّتِى

my offsprings

dhurriyyatī

بِوَادٍ

in a valley

biwādin

غَيْرِ

not

ghayri

ذِى

with

dhī

زَرْعٍ

cultivation

zarʿin

عِندَ

near

ʿinda

بَيْتِكَ

Your Sacred House

baytika

ٱلْمُحَرَّمِ

Your Sacred House

l-muḥarami

رَبَّنَا

our Lord

rabbanā

لِيُقِيمُوا۟

That they may establish

liyuqīmū

ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ

the prayers

l-ṣalata

فَٱجْعَلْ

So make

fa-ij'ʿal

أَفْـِٔدَةًۭ

hearts

afidatan

مِّنَ

of

mina

ٱلنَّاسِ

the men

l-nāsi

تَهْوِىٓ

incline

tahwī

إِلَيْهِمْ

towards them

ilayhim

وَٱرْزُقْهُم

and provide them

wa-ur'zuq'hum

مِّنَ

with

mina

ٱلثَّمَرَٰتِ

the fruits

l-thamarāti

لَعَلَّهُمْ

so that they may

laʿallahum

يَشْكُرُونَ

be grateful

yashkurūna

٣٧

Our Lord, I have settled some of my descendants in an uncultivated valley near Your sacred House, our Lord, that they may establish prayer. So make hearts among the people incline toward them and provide for them from the fruits that they might be grateful.

— Saheeh International

رَبَّنَآ

Our Lord

rabbanā

إِنَّكَ

Indeed, You

innaka

تَعْلَمُ

You know

taʿlamu

مَا

what

نُخْفِى

we conceal

nukh'fī

وَمَا

and what

wamā

نُعْلِنُ ۗ

we proclaim

nuʿ'linu

وَمَا

And not

wamā

يَخْفَىٰ

(is) hidden

yakhfā

عَلَى

from

ʿalā

ٱللَّهِ

Allah

l-lahi

مِن

any

min

شَىْءٍۢ

thing

shayin

فِى

in

ٱلْأَرْضِ

the earth

l-arḍi

وَلَا

and not

walā

فِى

in

ٱلسَّمَآءِ

the heaven

l-samāi

٣٨

Our Lord, indeed You know what we conceal and what we declare, and nothing is hidden from Allāh on the earth or in the heaven.

— Saheeh International

ٱلْحَمْدُ

All the Praise

al-ḥamdu

لِلَّهِ

(is) for Allah

lillahi

ٱلَّذِى

the One Who

alladhī

وَهَبَ

has granted

wahaba

لِى

me

عَلَى

in

ʿalā

ٱلْكِبَرِ

the old age

l-kibari

إِسْمَـٰعِيلَ

Ishmael

is'māʿīla

وَإِسْحَـٰقَ ۚ

and Isaac

wa-is'ḥāqa

إِنَّ

Indeed

inna

رَبِّى

my Lord

rabbī

لَسَمِيعُ

(is) All-Hearer

lasamīʿu

ٱلدُّعَآءِ

(of) the prayer

l-duʿāi

٣٩

Praise to Allāh, who has granted to me in old age Ishmael and Isaac. Indeed, my Lord is the Hearer of supplication.

— Saheeh International

رَبِّ

My Lord

rabbi

ٱجْعَلْنِى

Make me

ij'ʿalnī

مُقِيمَ

an establisher

muqīma

ٱلصَّلَوٰةِ

(of) the prayer

l-ṣalati

وَمِن

and from

wamin

ذُرِّيَّتِى ۚ

my offsprings

dhurriyyatī

رَبَّنَا

Our Lord

rabbanā

وَتَقَبَّلْ

and accept

wataqabbal

دُعَآءِ

my prayer

duʿāi

٤٠

My Lord, make me an establisher of prayer, and [many] from my descendants. Our Lord, and accept my supplication.

— Saheeh International

رَبَّنَا

Our Lord

rabbanā

ٱغْفِرْ

Forgive

igh'fir

لِى

me

وَلِوَٰلِدَىَّ

and my parents

waliwālidayya

وَلِلْمُؤْمِنِينَ

and the believers

walil'mu'minīna

يَوْمَ

(on) the Day

yawma

يَقُومُ

will (be) established

yaqūmu

ٱلْحِسَابُ

the account

l-ḥisābu

٤١

Our Lord, forgive me and my parents and the believers the Day the account is established."

— Saheeh International

وَلَا

And (do) not

walā

تَحْسَبَنَّ

think

taḥsabanna

ٱللَّهَ

(that) Allah

l-laha

غَـٰفِلًا

(is) unaware

ghāfilan

عَمَّا

of what

ʿammā

يَعْمَلُ

do

yaʿmalu

ٱلظَّـٰلِمُونَ ۚ

the wrongdoers

l-ẓālimūna

إِنَّمَا

Only

innamā

يُؤَخِّرُهُمْ

He gives them respite

yu-akhiruhum

لِيَوْمٍۢ

to a Day

liyawmin

تَشْخَصُ

will stare

tashkhaṣu

فِيهِ

in it

fīhi

ٱلْأَبْصَـٰرُ

the eyes

l-abṣāru

٤٢

And never think that Allāh is unaware of what the wrongdoers do. He only delays them [i.e., their account] for a Day when eyes will stare [in horror].

— Saheeh International

مُهْطِعِينَ

Racing ahead

muh'ṭiʿīna

مُقْنِعِى

raised up

muq'niʿī

رُءُوسِهِمْ

their heads

ruūsihim

لَا

not

يَرْتَدُّ

returning

yartaddu

إِلَيْهِمْ

towards them

ilayhim

طَرْفُهُمْ ۖ

their gaze

ṭarfuhum

وَأَفْـِٔدَتُهُمْ

and their hearts

wa-afidatuhum

هَوَآءٌۭ

(are) empty

hawāon

٤٣

Racing ahead, their heads raised up, their glance does not come back to them,1 and their hearts are void.

— Saheeh International

وَأَنذِرِ

And warn

wa-andhiri

ٱلنَّاسَ

the mankind

l-nāsa

يَوْمَ

(of) a Day

yawma

يَأْتِيهِمُ

(when) will come to them

yatīhimu

ٱلْعَذَابُ

the punishment

l-ʿadhābu

فَيَقُولُ

then will say

fayaqūlu

ٱلَّذِينَ

those who

alladhīna

ظَلَمُوا۟

did wrong

ẓalamū

رَبَّنَآ

Our Lord

rabbanā

أَخِّرْنَآ

Respite us

akhir'nā

إِلَىٰٓ

for

ilā

أَجَلٍۢ

a term

ajalin

قَرِيبٍۢ

short

qarībin

نُّجِبْ

we will answer

nujib

دَعْوَتَكَ

Your call

daʿwataka

وَنَتَّبِعِ

and we will follow

wanattabiʿi

ٱلرُّسُلَ ۗ

the Messengers

l-rusula

أَوَلَمْ

Had not

awalam

تَكُونُوٓا۟

you

takūnū

أَقْسَمْتُم

sworn

aqsamtum

مِّن

before

min

قَبْلُ

before

qablu

مَا

not

لَكُم

for you

lakum

مِّن

any

min

زَوَالٍۢ

end

zawālin

٤٤

And, [O Muḥammad], warn the people of a Day when the punishment will come to them and those who did wrong will say, "Our Lord, delay us for a short term; we will answer Your call and follow the messengers." [But it will be said], "Had you not sworn, before, that for you there would be no cessation?1

— Saheeh International

وَسَكَنتُمْ

And you dwelt

wasakantum

فِى

in

مَسَـٰكِنِ

the dwellings

masākini

ٱلَّذِينَ

(of) those who

alladhīna

ظَلَمُوٓا۟

wronged

ẓalamū

أَنفُسَهُمْ

themselves

anfusahum

وَتَبَيَّنَ

and it had become clear

watabayyana

لَكُمْ

to you

lakum

كَيْفَ

how

kayfa

فَعَلْنَا

We dealt

faʿalnā

بِهِمْ

with them

bihim

وَضَرَبْنَا

and We put forth

waḍarabnā

لَكُمُ

for you

lakumu

ٱلْأَمْثَالَ

the examples

l-amthāla

٤٥

And you lived among the dwellings of those who wronged themselves, and it had become clear to you how We dealt with them. And We presented for you [many] examples."

— Saheeh International

وَقَدْ

And indeed

waqad

مَكَرُوا۟

they planned

makarū

مَكْرَهُمْ

their plan

makrahum

وَعِندَ

but with

waʿinda

ٱللَّهِ

Allah

l-lahi

مَكْرُهُمْ

(was) their plan

makruhum

وَإِن

even if

wa-in

كَانَ

was

kāna

مَكْرُهُمْ

their plan

makruhum

لِتَزُولَ

that should be moved

litazūla

مِنْهُ

by it

min'hu

ٱلْجِبَالُ

the mountains

l-jibālu

٤٦

And they had planned their plan, but with Allāh is [recorded] their plan, even if their plan had been [sufficient] to do away with the mountains.1

— Saheeh International

فَلَا

So (do) not

falā

تَحْسَبَنَّ

think

taḥsabanna

ٱللَّهَ

(that) Allah

l-laha

مُخْلِفَ

will fail

mukh'lifa

وَعْدِهِۦ

(to) keep His Promise

waʿdihi

رُسُلَهُۥٓ ۗ

(to) His Messengers

rusulahu

إِنَّ

Indeed

inna

ٱللَّهَ

Allah

l-laha

عَزِيزٌۭ

(is) All-Mighty

ʿazīzun

ذُو

Owner (of) Retribution

dhū

ٱنتِقَامٍۢ

Owner (of) Retribution

intiqāmin

٤٧

So never think that Allāh will fail in His promise to His messengers. Indeed, Allāh is Exalted in Might and Owner of Retribution.1

— Saheeh International

يَوْمَ

(On the) Day

yawma

تُبَدَّلُ

will be changed

tubaddalu

ٱلْأَرْضُ

the earth

l-arḍu

غَيْرَ

(to) other (than)

ghayra

ٱلْأَرْضِ

the earth

l-arḍi

وَٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتُ ۖ

and the heavens

wal-samāwātu

وَبَرَزُوا۟

and they will come forth

wabarazū

لِلَّهِ

before Allah

lillahi

ٱلْوَٰحِدِ

the One

l-wāḥidi

ٱلْقَهَّارِ

the Irresistible

l-qahāri

٤٨

[It will be] on the Day the earth will be replaced by another earth, and the heavens [as well], and they [i.e., all creatures] will come out before Allāh, the One, the Prevailing,

— Saheeh International

وَتَرَى

And you will see

watarā

ٱلْمُجْرِمِينَ

the criminals

l-muj'rimīna

يَوْمَئِذٍۢ

(on) that Day

yawma-idhin

مُّقَرَّنِينَ

bound together

muqarranīna

فِى

in

ٱلْأَصْفَادِ

the chains

l-aṣfādi

٤٩

And you will see the criminals that Day bound together in irons,

— Saheeh International

سَرَابِيلُهُم

Their garments

sarābīluhum

مِّن

of

min

قَطِرَانٍۢ

tar

qaṭirānin

وَتَغْشَىٰ

and will cover

wataghshā

وُجُوهَهُمُ

their faces

wujūhahumu

ٱلنَّارُ

the Fire

l-nāru

٥٠

Their garments of liquid pitch and their faces covered by the Fire

— Saheeh International

لِيَجْزِىَ

So that Allah may recompense

liyajziya

ٱللَّهُ

So that Allah may recompense

l-lahu

كُلَّ

each

kulla

نَفْسٍۢ

soul

nafsin

مَّا

(for) what

كَسَبَتْ ۚ

it earned

kasabat

إِنَّ

Indeed

inna

ٱللَّهَ

Allah

l-laha

سَرِيعُ

(is) Swift

sarīʿu

ٱلْحِسَابِ

(in) the reckoning

l-ḥisābi

٥١

So that Allāh will recompense every soul for what it earned. Indeed, Allāh is swift in account.

— Saheeh International

هَـٰذَا

This

hādhā

بَلَـٰغٌۭ

(is) a Message

balāghun

لِّلنَّاسِ

for the mankind

lilnnāsi

وَلِيُنذَرُوا۟

that they may be warned

waliyundharū

بِهِۦ

with it

bihi

وَلِيَعْلَمُوٓا۟

and that they may know

waliyaʿlamū

أَنَّمَا

that only

annamā

هُوَ

He

huwa

إِلَـٰهٌۭ

(is) One God

ilāhun

وَٰحِدٌۭ

(is) One God

wāḥidun

وَلِيَذَّكَّرَ

and that may take heed

waliyadhakkara

أُو۟لُوا۟

men

ulū

ٱلْأَلْبَـٰبِ

(of) understanding

l-albābi

٥٢

This [Qur’ān] is notification for the people that they may be warned thereby and that they may know that He is but one God and that those of understanding will be reminded.

— Saheeh International
