Al-'Anbyā

The Prophets

الأنبياء

ٱقْتَرَبَ

(Has) approached

iq'taraba

لِلنَّاسِ

for [the] mankind

lilnnāsi

حِسَابُهُمْ

their account

ḥisābuhum

وَهُمْ

while they

wahum

فِى

(are) in

غَفْلَةٍۢ

heedlessness

ghaflatin

مُّعْرِضُونَ

turning away

muʿ'riḍūna

١

[The time of] their account has approached for the people, while they are in heedlessness turning away.

— Saheeh International

مَا

Not

يَأْتِيهِم

comes to them

yatīhim

مِّن

of

min

ذِكْرٍۢ

a Reminder

dhik'rin

مِّن

from

min

رَّبِّهِم

their Lord

rabbihim

مُّحْدَثٍ

anew

muḥ'dathin

إِلَّا

except

illā

ٱسْتَمَعُوهُ

they listen to it

is'tamaʿūhu

وَهُمْ

while they

wahum

يَلْعَبُونَ

(are at) play

yalʿabūna

٢

No mention [i.e., revelation] comes to them anew from their Lord except that they listen to it while they are at play

— Saheeh International

لَاهِيَةًۭ

Distracted

lāhiyatan

قُلُوبُهُمْ ۗ

their hearts

qulūbuhum

وَأَسَرُّوا۟

And they conceal

wa-asarrū

ٱلنَّجْوَى

the private conversation

l-najwā

ٱلَّذِينَ

those who

alladhīna

ظَلَمُوا۟

[they] wronged

ẓalamū

هَلْ

Is

hal

هَـٰذَآ

this

hādhā

إِلَّا

except

illā

بَشَرٌۭ

a human being

basharun

مِّثْلُكُمْ ۖ

like you

mith'lukum

أَفَتَأْتُونَ

So would you approach

afatatūna

ٱلسِّحْرَ

the magic

l-siḥ'ra

وَأَنتُمْ

while you

wa-antum

تُبْصِرُونَ

see (it)

tub'ṣirūna

٣

With their hearts distracted. And those who do wrong conceal their private conversation, [saying], "Is this [Prophet] except a human being like you? So would you approach magic while you are aware [of it]?"

— Saheeh International

قَالَ

He said

qāla

رَبِّى

My Lord

rabbī

يَعْلَمُ

knows

yaʿlamu

ٱلْقَوْلَ

the word

l-qawla

فِى

in

ٱلسَّمَآءِ

the heavens

l-samāi

وَٱلْأَرْضِ ۖ

and the earth

wal-arḍi

وَهُوَ

And He

wahuwa

ٱلسَّمِيعُ

(is) the All-Hearer

l-samīʿu

ٱلْعَلِيمُ

the All-Knower

l-ʿalīmu

٤

He [the Prophet (ﷺ)] said, "My Lord knows whatever is said throughout the heaven and earth, and He is the Hearing, the Knowing."

— Saheeh International

بَلْ

Nay

bal

قَالُوٓا۟

they say

qālū

أَضْغَـٰثُ

Muddled

aḍghāthu

أَحْلَـٰمٍۭ

dreams

aḥlāmin

بَلِ

nay

bali

ٱفْتَرَىٰهُ

he (has) invented it

if'tarāhu

بَلْ

nay

bal

هُوَ

he

huwa

شَاعِرٌۭ

(is) a poet

shāʿirun

فَلْيَأْتِنَا

So let him bring us

falyatinā

بِـَٔايَةٍۢ

a sign

biāyatin

كَمَآ

like what

kamā

أُرْسِلَ

was sent

ur'sila

ٱلْأَوَّلُونَ

(to) the former

l-awalūna

٥

But they say, "[The revelation is but] a mixture of false dreams; rather, he has invented it; rather, he is a poet. So let him bring us a sign just as the previous [messengers] were sent [with miracles]."

— Saheeh International

مَآ

Not

ءَامَنَتْ

believed

āmanat

قَبْلَهُم

before them

qablahum

مِّن

any

min

قَرْيَةٍ

town

qaryatin

أَهْلَكْنَـٰهَآ ۖ

which We destroyed

ahlaknāhā

أَفَهُمْ

so will they

afahum

يُؤْمِنُونَ

believe

yu'minūna

٦

Not a [single] city which We destroyed believed before them,1 so will they believe?

— Saheeh International

وَمَآ

And not

wamā

أَرْسَلْنَا

We sent

arsalnā

قَبْلَكَ

before you

qablaka

إِلَّا

except

illā

رِجَالًۭا

men

rijālan

نُّوحِىٓ

We revealed

nūḥī

إِلَيْهِمْ ۖ

to them

ilayhim

فَسْـَٔلُوٓا۟

So ask

fasalū

أَهْلَ

(the) people

ahla

ٱلذِّكْرِ

(of) the Reminder

l-dhik'ri

إِن

if

in

كُنتُمْ

you

kuntum

لَا

(do) not

تَعْلَمُونَ

know

taʿlamūna

٧

And We sent not before you, [O Muḥammad], except men to whom We revealed [the message], so ask the people of the message [i.e., former scriptures] if you do not know.

— Saheeh International

وَمَا

And not

wamā

جَعَلْنَـٰهُمْ

We made them

jaʿalnāhum

جَسَدًۭا

bodies

jasadan

لَّا

not

يَأْكُلُونَ

eating

yakulūna

ٱلطَّعَامَ

the food

l-ṭaʿāma

وَمَا

and not

wamā

كَانُوا۟

they were

kānū

خَـٰلِدِينَ

immortals

khālidīna

٨

And We did not make them [i.e., the prophets] forms not eating food,1 nor were they immortal [on earth].

— Saheeh International

ثُمَّ

Then

thumma

صَدَقْنَـٰهُمُ

We fulfilled (for) them

ṣadaqnāhumu

ٱلْوَعْدَ

the promise

l-waʿda

فَأَنجَيْنَـٰهُمْ

and We saved them

fa-anjaynāhum

وَمَن

and whom

waman

نَّشَآءُ

We willed

nashāu

وَأَهْلَكْنَا

and We destroyed

wa-ahlaknā

ٱلْمُسْرِفِينَ

the transgressors

l-mus'rifīna

٩

Then1 We fulfilled for them the promise, and We saved them and whom We willed and destroyed the transgressors.

— Saheeh International

لَقَدْ

Indeed

laqad

أَنزَلْنَآ

We (have) sent down

anzalnā

إِلَيْكُمْ

to you

ilaykum

كِتَـٰبًۭا

a Book

kitāban

فِيهِ

in it

fīhi

ذِكْرُكُمْ ۖ

(is) your mention

dhik'rukum

أَفَلَا

Then will not

afalā

تَعْقِلُونَ

you use reason

taʿqilūna

١٠

We have certainly sent down to you a Book [i.e., the Qur’ān] in which is your mention.1 Then will you not reason?

— Saheeh International

وَكَمْ

And how many

wakam

قَصَمْنَا

We (have) shattered

qaṣamnā

مِن

of

min

قَرْيَةٍۢ

a town

qaryatin

كَانَتْ

(that) was

kānat

ظَالِمَةًۭ

unjust

ẓālimatan

وَأَنشَأْنَا

and We produced

wa-anshanā

بَعْدَهَا

after them

baʿdahā

قَوْمًا

another people

qawman

ءَاخَرِينَ

another people

ākharīna

١١

And how many a city which was unjust1 have We shattered and produced after it another people.

— Saheeh International

فَلَمَّآ

Then when

falammā

أَحَسُّوا۟

they perceived

aḥassū

بَأْسَنَآ

Our torment

basanā

إِذَا

behold

idhā

هُم

they

hum

مِّنْهَا

from it

min'hā

يَرْكُضُونَ

were fleeing

yarkuḍūna

١٢

And when they [i.e., its inhabitants] perceived Our punishment, at once they fled from it.

— Saheeh International

لَا

Flee not

تَرْكُضُوا۟

Flee not

tarkuḍū

وَٱرْجِعُوٓا۟

but return

wa-ir'jiʿū

إِلَىٰ

to

ilā

مَآ

what

أُتْرِفْتُمْ

you were given luxury

ut'rif'tum

فِيهِ

in it

fīhi

وَمَسَـٰكِنِكُمْ

and to your homes

wamasākinikum

لَعَلَّكُمْ

so that you may

laʿallakum

تُسْـَٔلُونَ

be questioned

tus'alūna

١٣

[Some angels said], "Do not flee but return to where you were given luxury and to your homes - perhaps you will be questioned."1

— Saheeh International

قَالُوا۟

They said

qālū

يَـٰوَيْلَنَآ

O woe to us

yāwaylanā

إِنَّا

Indeed, [we]

innā

كُنَّا

we were

kunnā

ظَـٰلِمِينَ

wrongdoers

ẓālimīna

١٤

They said, "O woe to us! Indeed, we were wrongdoers."

— Saheeh International

فَمَا

Then not

famā

زَالَت

ceased

zālat

تِّلْكَ

[this]

til'ka

دَعْوَىٰهُمْ

their cry

daʿwāhum

حَتَّىٰ

until

ḥattā

جَعَلْنَـٰهُمْ

We made them

jaʿalnāhum

حَصِيدًا

reaped

ḥaṣīdan

خَـٰمِدِينَ

extinct

khāmidīna

١٥

And that declaration of theirs did not cease until We made them [as] a harvest [mowed down], extinguished [like a fire].

— Saheeh International

وَمَا

And not

wamā

خَلَقْنَا

We created

khalaqnā

ٱلسَّمَآءَ

the heavens

l-samāa

وَٱلْأَرْضَ

and the earth

wal-arḍa

وَمَا

and what

wamā

بَيْنَهُمَا

(is) between them

baynahumā

لَـٰعِبِينَ

(for) playing

lāʿibīna

١٦

And We did not create the heaven and earth and that between them in play.

— Saheeh International

لَوْ

If

law

أَرَدْنَآ

We intended

aradnā

أَن

that

an

نَّتَّخِذَ

We take

nattakhidha

لَهْوًۭا

a pastime

lahwan

لَّٱتَّخَذْنَـٰهُ

surely We (could have) taken it

la-ittakhadhnāhu

مِن

from

min

لَّدُنَّآ

Us

ladunnā

إِن

if

in

كُنَّا

We were

kunnā

فَـٰعِلِينَ

doers

fāʿilīna

١٧

Had We intended to take a diversion,1 We could have taken it from [what is] with Us - if [indeed] We were to do so.

— Saheeh International

بَلْ

Nay

bal

نَقْذِفُ

We hurl

naqdhifu

بِٱلْحَقِّ

the truth

bil-ḥaqi

عَلَى

against

ʿalā

ٱلْبَـٰطِلِ

[the] falsehood

l-bāṭili

فَيَدْمَغُهُۥ

and it breaks its head

fayadmaghuhu

فَإِذَا

behold

fa-idhā

هُوَ

it (is)

huwa

زَاهِقٌۭ ۚ

vanishing

zāhiqun

وَلَكُمُ

And for you

walakumu

ٱلْوَيْلُ

(is) destruction

l-waylu

مِمَّا

for what

mimmā

تَصِفُونَ

you ascribe

taṣifūna

١٨

Rather, We dash the truth upon falsehood, and it destroys it,1 and thereupon it departs. And for you is destruction from that which you describe.2

— Saheeh International

وَلَهُۥ

And to Him (belongs)

walahu

مَن

whoever

man

فِى

(is) in

ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ

the heavens

l-samāwāti

وَٱلْأَرْضِ ۚ

and the earth

wal-arḍi

وَمَنْ

And (those) who

waman

عِندَهُۥ

(are) near Him

ʿindahu

لَا

not

يَسْتَكْبِرُونَ

they are arrogant

yastakbirūna

عَنْ

to

ʿan

عِبَادَتِهِۦ

worship Him

ʿibādatihi

وَلَا

and not

walā

يَسْتَحْسِرُونَ

they tire

yastaḥsirūna

١٩

To Him belongs whoever is in the heavens and the earth. And those near Him [i.e., the angels] are not prevented by arrogance from His worship, nor do they tire.

— Saheeh International

يُسَبِّحُونَ

They glorify (Him)

yusabbiḥūna

ٱلَّيْلَ

[the] night

al-layla

وَٱلنَّهَارَ

and [the] day

wal-nahāra

لَا

not

يَفْتُرُونَ

they slacken

yafturūna

٢٠

They exalt [Him] night and day [and] do not slacken.

— Saheeh International

أَمِ

Or

ami

ٱتَّخَذُوٓا۟

(have) they taken

ittakhadhū

ءَالِهَةًۭ

gods

ālihatan

مِّنَ

from

mina

ٱلْأَرْضِ

the earth

l-arḍi

هُمْ

they

hum

يُنشِرُونَ

raise (the dead)

yunshirūna

٢١

Or have they [i.e., men] taken for themselves gods from the earth who resurrect [the dead]?

— Saheeh International

لَوْ

If

law

كَانَ

(there) were

kāna

فِيهِمَآ

in both of them

fīhimā

ءَالِهَةٌ

gods

ālihatun

إِلَّا

besides

illā

ٱللَّهُ

Allah

l-lahu

لَفَسَدَتَا ۚ

surely they (would) have been ruined

lafasadatā

فَسُبْحَـٰنَ

So glorified

fasub'ḥāna

ٱللَّهِ

(is) Allah

l-lahi

رَبِّ

Lord

rabbi

ٱلْعَرْشِ

(of) the Throne

l-ʿarshi

عَمَّا

(above) what

ʿammā

يَصِفُونَ

they attribute

yaṣifūna

٢٢

Had there been within them [i.e., the heavens and earth] gods besides Allāh, they both would have been ruined. So exalted is Allāh, Lord of the Throne, above what they describe.

— Saheeh International

لَا

Not

يُسْـَٔلُ

He (can) be questioned

yus'alu

عَمَّا

about what

ʿammā

يَفْعَلُ

He does

yafʿalu

وَهُمْ

but they

wahum

يُسْـَٔلُونَ

will be questioned

yus'alūna

٢٣

He is not questioned about what He does, but they will be questioned.

— Saheeh International

أَمِ

Or

ami

ٱتَّخَذُوا۟

(have) they taken

ittakhadhū

مِن

besides Him

min

دُونِهِۦٓ

besides Him

dūnihi

ءَالِهَةًۭ ۖ

gods

ālihatan

قُلْ

Say

qul

هَاتُوا۟

Bring

hātū

بُرْهَـٰنَكُمْ ۖ

your proof

bur'hānakum

هَـٰذَا

This

hādhā

ذِكْرُ

(is) a Reminder

dhik'ru

مَن

(for those) who

man

مَّعِىَ

(are) with me

maʿiya

وَذِكْرُ

and a Reminder

wadhik'ru

مَن

(for those) who

man

قَبْلِى ۗ

(were) before me

qablī

بَلْ

But

bal

أَكْثَرُهُمْ

most of them

aktharuhum

لَا

(do) not

يَعْلَمُونَ

know

yaʿlamūna

ٱلْحَقَّ ۖ

the truth

l-ḥaqa

فَهُم

so they

fahum

مُّعْرِضُونَ

(are) averse

muʿ'riḍūna

٢٤

Or have they taken gods besides Him? Say, [O Muḥammad], "Produce your proof. This [Qur’ān] is the message for those with me and the message of those before me."1 But most of them do not know the truth, so they are turning away.

— Saheeh International

وَمَآ

And not

wamā

أَرْسَلْنَا

We sent

arsalnā

مِن

before you

min

قَبْلِكَ

before you

qablika

مِن

any

min

رَّسُولٍ

Messenger

rasūlin

إِلَّا

but

illā

نُوحِىٓ

We reveal(ed)

nūḥī

إِلَيْهِ

to him

ilayhi

أَنَّهُۥ

that [He]

annahu

لَآ

(There is) no

إِلَـٰهَ

god

ilāha

إِلَّآ

except

illā

أَنَا۠

Me

anā

فَٱعْبُدُونِ

so worship Me

fa-uʿ'budūni

٢٥

And We sent not before you any messenger except We revealed to him that, "There is no deity except Me, so worship Me."

— Saheeh International

وَقَالُوا۟

And they say

waqālū

ٱتَّخَذَ

Has taken

ittakhadha

ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنُ

the Most Gracious

l-raḥmānu

وَلَدًۭا ۗ

a son

waladan

سُبْحَـٰنَهُۥ ۚ

Glorified is He

sub'ḥānahu

بَلْ

Nay

bal

عِبَادٌۭ

(they are) slaves

ʿibādun

مُّكْرَمُونَ

honored

muk'ramūna

٢٦

And they say, "The Most Merciful has taken a son." Exalted is He! Rather, they1 are [but] honored servants.

— Saheeh International

لَا

Not

يَسْبِقُونَهُۥ

they (can) precede Him

yasbiqūnahu

بِٱلْقَوْلِ

in word

bil-qawli

وَهُم

and they

wahum

بِأَمْرِهِۦ

by His command

bi-amrihi

يَعْمَلُونَ

act

yaʿmalūna

٢٧

They cannot precede Him in word, and they act by His command.

— Saheeh International

يَعْلَمُ

He knows

yaʿlamu

مَا

what

بَيْنَ

(is) before them

bayna

أَيْدِيهِمْ

(is) before them

aydīhim

وَمَا

and what

wamā

خَلْفَهُمْ

(is) behind them

khalfahum

وَلَا

and not

walā

يَشْفَعُونَ

they (can) intercede

yashfaʿūna

إِلَّا

except

illā

لِمَنِ

for whom

limani

ٱرْتَضَىٰ

He approves

ir'taḍā

وَهُم

And they

wahum

مِّنْ

from

min

خَشْيَتِهِۦ

fear of Him

khashyatihi

مُشْفِقُونَ

stand in awe

mush'fiqūna

٢٨

He knows what is [presently] before them and what will be after them,1 and they cannot intercede except on behalf of one whom He approves. And they, from fear of Him, are apprehensive.

— Saheeh International

۞ وَمَن

And whoever

waman

يَقُلْ

says

yaqul

مِنْهُمْ

of them

min'hum

إِنِّىٓ

Indeed, I am

innī

إِلَـٰهٌۭ

a god

ilāhun

مِّن

besides Him

min

دُونِهِۦ

besides Him

dūnihi

فَذَٰلِكَ

Then that

fadhālika

نَجْزِيهِ

We will recompense

najzīhi

جَهَنَّمَ ۚ

(with) Hell

jahannama

كَذَٰلِكَ

Thus

kadhālika

نَجْزِى

We recompense

najzī

ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ

the wrongdoers

l-ẓālimīna

٢٩

And whoever of them should say, "Indeed, I am a god besides Him" - that one We would recompense with Hell. Thus do We recompense the wrongdoers.

— Saheeh International

أَوَلَمْ

Do not

awalam

يَرَ

see

yara

ٱلَّذِينَ

those who

alladhīna

كَفَرُوٓا۟

disbelieved

kafarū

أَنَّ

that

anna

ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ

the heavens

l-samāwāti

وَٱلْأَرْضَ

and the earth

wal-arḍa

كَانَتَا

were

kānatā

رَتْقًۭا

a joined entity

ratqan

فَفَتَقْنَـٰهُمَا ۖ

then We parted them

fafataqnāhumā

وَجَعَلْنَا

and We made

wajaʿalnā

مِنَ

from

mina

ٱلْمَآءِ

[the] water

l-māi

كُلَّ

every

kulla

شَىْءٍ

living thing

shayin

حَىٍّ ۖ

living thing

ḥayyin

أَفَلَا

Then will not

afalā

يُؤْمِنُونَ

they believe

yu'minūna

٣٠

Have those who disbelieved not considered that the heavens and the earth were a joined entity, and then We separated them and made from water every living thing? Then will they not believe?

— Saheeh International

وَجَعَلْنَا

And We (have) placed

wajaʿalnā

فِى

in

ٱلْأَرْضِ

the earth

l-arḍi

رَوَٰسِىَ

firmly set mountains

rawāsiya

أَن

lest

an

تَمِيدَ

it (should) shake

tamīda

بِهِمْ

with them

bihim

وَجَعَلْنَا

and We made

wajaʿalnā

فِيهَا

therein

fīhā

فِجَاجًۭا

broad passes

fijājan

سُبُلًۭا

(as) ways

subulan

لَّعَلَّهُمْ

so that they may

laʿallahum

يَهْتَدُونَ

(be) guided

yahtadūna

٣١

And We placed within the earth firmly set mountains, lest it should shift with them, and We made therein [mountain] passes [as] roads that they might be guided.

— Saheeh International

وَجَعَلْنَا

And We made

wajaʿalnā

ٱلسَّمَآءَ

the sky

l-samāa

سَقْفًۭا

a roof

saqfan

مَّحْفُوظًۭا ۖ

protected

maḥfūẓan

وَهُمْ

But they

wahum

عَنْ

from

ʿan

ءَايَـٰتِهَا

its Signs

āyātihā

مُعْرِضُونَ

turn away

muʿ'riḍūna

٣٢

And We made the sky a protected ceiling, but they, from its signs,1 are turning away.

— Saheeh International

وَهُوَ

And He

wahuwa

ٱلَّذِى

(is) the One Who

alladhī

خَلَقَ

created

khalaqa

ٱلَّيْلَ

the night

al-layla

وَٱلنَّهَارَ

and the day

wal-nahāra

وَٱلشَّمْسَ

and the sun

wal-shamsa

وَٱلْقَمَرَ ۖ

and the moon

wal-qamara

كُلٌّۭ

each

kullun

فِى

in

فَلَكٍۢ

an orbit

falakin

يَسْبَحُونَ

floating

yasbaḥūna

٣٣

And it is He who created the night and the day and the sun and the moon; all [heavenly bodies] in an orbit are swimming.

— Saheeh International

وَمَا

And not

wamā

جَعَلْنَا

We made

jaʿalnā

لِبَشَرٍۢ

for any man

libasharin

مِّن

before you

min

قَبْلِكَ

before you

qablika

ٱلْخُلْدَ ۖ

[the] immortality

l-khul'da

أَفَإِي۟ن

so if

afa-in

مِّتَّ

you die

mitta

فَهُمُ

then (would) they

fahumu

ٱلْخَـٰلِدُونَ

live forever

l-khālidūna

٣٤

And We did not grant to any man before you eternity [on earth]; so if you die - would they be eternal?

— Saheeh International

كُلُّ

Every

kullu

نَفْسٍۢ

soul

nafsin

ذَآئِقَةُ

(will) taste

dhāiqatu

ٱلْمَوْتِ ۗ

[the] death

l-mawti

وَنَبْلُوكُم

And We test you

wanablūkum

بِٱلشَّرِّ

with [the] bad

bil-shari

وَٱلْخَيْرِ

and [the] good

wal-khayri

فِتْنَةًۭ ۖ

(as) a trial

fit'natan

وَإِلَيْنَا

and to Us

wa-ilaynā

تُرْجَعُونَ

you will be returned

tur'jaʿūna

٣٥

Every soul will taste death. And We test you with evil and with good as trial; and to Us you will be returned.

— Saheeh International

وَإِذَا

And when

wa-idhā

رَءَاكَ

they see you

raāka

ٱلَّذِينَ

those who

alladhīna

كَفَرُوٓا۟

disbelieve

kafarū

إِن

not

in

يَتَّخِذُونَكَ

they take you

yattakhidhūnaka

إِلَّا

except

illā

هُزُوًا

(in) ridicule

huzuwan

أَهَـٰذَا

Is this

ahādhā

ٱلَّذِى

the one who

alladhī

يَذْكُرُ

mentions

yadhkuru

ءَالِهَتَكُمْ

your gods

ālihatakum

وَهُم

And they

wahum

بِذِكْرِ

at (the) mention

bidhik'ri

ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ

(of) the Most Gracious

l-raḥmāni

هُمْ

[they]

hum

كَـٰفِرُونَ

(are) disbelievers

kāfirūna

٣٦

And when those who disbelieve see you, [O Muḥammad], they take you not except in ridicule, [saying], "Is this the one who mentions [i.e., insults] your gods?" And they are, at the mention of the Most Merciful, disbelievers.

— Saheeh International

خُلِقَ

Is created

khuliqa

ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ

the man

l-insānu

مِنْ

of

min

عَجَلٍۢ ۚ

haste

ʿajalin

سَأُو۟رِيكُمْ

I will show you

sa-urīkum

ءَايَـٰتِى

My Signs

āyātī

فَلَا

so (do) not

falā

تَسْتَعْجِلُونِ

ask Me to hasten

tastaʿjilūni

٣٧

Man was created of haste [i.e., impatience]. I will show you My signs [i.e., vengeance], so do not impatiently urge Me.

— Saheeh International

وَيَقُولُونَ

And they say

wayaqūlūna

مَتَىٰ

When (will be fulfilled)

matā

هَـٰذَا

this

hādhā

ٱلْوَعْدُ

promise

l-waʿdu

إِن

if

in

كُنتُمْ

you are

kuntum

صَـٰدِقِينَ

truthful

ṣādiqīna

٣٨

And they say, "When is this promise, if you should be truthful?"

— Saheeh International

لَوْ

If

law

يَعْلَمُ

knew

yaʿlamu

ٱلَّذِينَ

those who

alladhīna

كَفَرُوا۟

disbelieved

kafarū

حِينَ

(the) time

ḥīna

لَا

(when) not

يَكُفُّونَ

they will avert

yakuffūna

عَن

from

ʿan

وُجُوهِهِمُ

their faces

wujūhihimu

ٱلنَّارَ

the Fire

l-nāra

وَلَا

and not

walā

عَن

from

ʿan

ظُهُورِهِمْ

their backs

ẓuhūrihim

وَلَا

and not

walā

هُمْ

they

hum

يُنصَرُونَ

will be helped

yunṣarūna

٣٩

If those who disbelieved but knew the time when they will not avert the Fire from their faces or from their backs and they will not be aided...1

— Saheeh International

بَلْ

Nay

bal

تَأْتِيهِم

it will come to them

tatīhim

بَغْتَةًۭ

unexpectedly

baghtatan

فَتَبْهَتُهُمْ

and bewilder them

fatabhatuhum

فَلَا

then not

falā

يَسْتَطِيعُونَ

they will be able

yastaṭīʿūna

رَدَّهَا

to repel it

raddahā

وَلَا

and not

walā

هُمْ

they

hum

يُنظَرُونَ

will be given respite

yunẓarūna

٤٠

Rather, it will come to them unexpectedly and bewilder them, and they will not be able to repel it, nor will they be reprieved.

— Saheeh International

وَلَقَدِ

And verily

walaqadi

ٱسْتُهْزِئَ

were mocked

us'tuh'zi-a

بِرُسُلٍۢ

Messengers

birusulin

مِّن

before you

min

قَبْلِكَ

before you

qablika

فَحَاقَ

then surrounded

faḥāqa

بِٱلَّذِينَ

those who

bi-alladhīna

سَخِرُوا۟

mocked

sakhirū

مِنْهُم

from them

min'hum

مَّا

what

كَانُوا۟

they used

kānū

بِهِۦ

at it

bihi

يَسْتَهْزِءُونَ

(to) mock

yastahziūna

٤١

And already were messengers ridiculed before you, but those who mocked them were enveloped by what they used to ridicule.

— Saheeh International

قُلْ

Say

qul

مَن

Who

man

يَكْلَؤُكُم

(can) protect you

yakla-ukum

بِٱلَّيْلِ

in the night

bi-al-layli

وَٱلنَّهَارِ

and the day

wal-nahāri

مِنَ

from

mina

ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ۗ

the Most Gracious

l-raḥmāni

بَلْ

Yet

bal

هُمْ

they

hum

عَن

from

ʿan

ذِكْرِ

(the) remembrance

dhik'ri

رَبِّهِم

(of) their Lord

rabbihim

مُّعْرِضُونَ

turn away

muʿ'riḍūna

٤٢

Say, "Who can protect you at night or by day from the Most Merciful?" But they are, from the remembrance of their Lord, turning away.

— Saheeh International

أَمْ

Or

am

لَهُمْ

have they

lahum

ءَالِهَةٌۭ

gods

ālihatun

تَمْنَعُهُم

(to) defend them

tamnaʿuhum

مِّن

from

min

دُونِنَا ۚ

Us

dūninā

لَا

Not

يَسْتَطِيعُونَ

they are able

yastaṭīʿūna

نَصْرَ

(to) help

naṣra

أَنفُسِهِمْ

themselves

anfusihim

وَلَا

and not

walā

هُم

they

hum

مِّنَّا

from Us

minnā

يُصْحَبُونَ

can be protected

yuṣ'ḥabūna

٤٣

Or do they have gods to defend them other than Us? They are unable [even] to help themselves, nor can they be protected from Us.

— Saheeh International

بَلْ

Nay

bal

مَتَّعْنَا

We gave provision

mattaʿnā

هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ

(to) these

hāulāi

وَءَابَآءَهُمْ

and their fathers

waābāahum

حَتَّىٰ

until

ḥattā

طَالَ

grew long

ṭāla

عَلَيْهِمُ

for them

ʿalayhimu

ٱلْعُمُرُ ۗ

the life

l-ʿumuru

أَفَلَا

Then do not

afalā

يَرَوْنَ

they see

yarawna

أَنَّا

that We

annā

نَأْتِى

We come

natī

ٱلْأَرْضَ

(to) the land

l-arḍa

نَنقُصُهَا

We reduce it

nanquṣuhā

مِنْ

from

min

أَطْرَافِهَآ ۚ

its borders

aṭrāfihā

أَفَهُمُ

So is (it) they

afahumu

ٱلْغَـٰلِبُونَ

(who will be) overcoming

l-ghālibūna

٤٤

But, [on the contrary], We have provided good things for these [disbelievers] and their fathers until life was prolonged for them. Then do they not see that We set upon the land, reducing it from its borders?1 Is it they who will overcome?

— Saheeh International

قُلْ

Say

qul

إِنَّمَآ

Only

innamā

أُنذِرُكُم

I warn you

undhirukum

بِٱلْوَحْىِ ۚ

by the revelation

bil-waḥyi

وَلَا

But not

walā

يَسْمَعُ

hear

yasmaʿu

ٱلصُّمُّ

the deaf

l-ṣumu

ٱلدُّعَآءَ

the call

l-duʿāa

إِذَا

when

idhā

مَا

when

يُنذَرُونَ

they are warned

yundharūna

٤٥

Say, "I only warn you by revelation." But the deaf do not hear the call when they are warned.

— Saheeh International

وَلَئِن

And if

wala-in

مَّسَّتْهُمْ

touches them

massathum

نَفْحَةٌۭ

a whiff

nafḥatun

مِّنْ

of

min

عَذَابِ

(the) punishment

ʿadhābi

رَبِّكَ

(of) your Lord

rabbika

لَيَقُولُنَّ

surely they will say

layaqūlunna

يَـٰوَيْلَنَآ

O woe to us

yāwaylanā

إِنَّا

Indeed, we

innā

كُنَّا

[we] were

kunnā

ظَـٰلِمِينَ

wrongdoers

ẓālimīna

٤٦

And if [as much as] a whiff of the punishment of your Lord should touch them, they would surely say, "O woe to us! Indeed, we have been wrongdoers."

— Saheeh International

وَنَضَعُ

And We set

wanaḍaʿu

ٱلْمَوَٰزِينَ

the scales

l-mawāzīna

ٱلْقِسْطَ

(of) the justice

l-qis'ṭa

لِيَوْمِ

for (the) Day

liyawmi

ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ

(of) the Resurrection

l-qiyāmati

فَلَا

so not

falā

تُظْلَمُ

will be wronged

tuẓ'lamu

نَفْسٌۭ

any soul

nafsun

شَيْـًۭٔا ۖ

(in) anything

shayan

وَإِن

And if

wa-in

كَانَ

(there) be

kāna

مِثْقَالَ

weight

mith'qāla

حَبَّةٍۢ

(of) a seed

ḥabbatin

مِّنْ

of

min

خَرْدَلٍ

a mustard

khardalin

أَتَيْنَا

We will bring

ataynā

بِهَا ۗ

[with] it

bihā

وَكَفَىٰ

And sufficient

wakafā

بِنَا

(are) We

binā

حَـٰسِبِينَ

(as) Reckoners

ḥāsibīna

٤٧

And We place the scales of justice for the Day of Resurrection, so no soul will be treated unjustly at all. And if there is [even] the weight of a mustard seed,1 We will bring it forth. And sufficient are We as accountant.

— Saheeh International

وَلَقَدْ

And verily

walaqad

ءَاتَيْنَا

We gave

ātaynā

مُوسَىٰ

Musa

mūsā

وَهَـٰرُونَ

and Harun

wahārūna

ٱلْفُرْقَانَ

the Criterion

l-fur'qāna

وَضِيَآءًۭ

and a light

waḍiyāan

وَذِكْرًۭا

and a Reminder

wadhik'ran

لِّلْمُتَّقِينَ

for the righteous

lil'muttaqīna

٤٨

And We had already given Moses and Aaron the criterion and a light and a reminder1 for the righteous

— Saheeh International

ٱلَّذِينَ

Those who

alladhīna

يَخْشَوْنَ

fear

yakhshawna

رَبَّهُم

their Lord

rabbahum

بِٱلْغَيْبِ

in the unseen

bil-ghaybi

وَهُم

and they

wahum

مِّنَ

of

mina

ٱلسَّاعَةِ

the Hour

l-sāʿati

مُشْفِقُونَ

(are) afraid

mush'fiqūna

٤٩

Who fear their Lord unseen,1 while they are of the Hour apprehensive.

— Saheeh International

وَهَـٰذَا

And this

wahādhā

ذِكْرٌۭ

(is) a Reminder

dhik'run

مُّبَارَكٌ

blessed

mubārakun

أَنزَلْنَـٰهُ ۚ

which We (have) revealed

anzalnāhu

أَفَأَنتُمْ

Then are you

afa-antum

لَهُۥ

of it

lahu

مُنكِرُونَ

rejecters

munkirūna

٥٠

And this [Qur’ān] is a blessed message which We have sent down. Then are you with it unacquainted?1

— Saheeh International

۞ وَلَقَدْ

And verily

walaqad

ءَاتَيْنَآ

We gave

ātaynā

إِبْرَٰهِيمَ

Ibrahim

ib'rāhīma

رُشْدَهُۥ

his guidance

rush'dahu

مِن

before

min

قَبْلُ

before

qablu

وَكُنَّا

and We were

wakunnā

بِهِۦ

about him

bihi

عَـٰلِمِينَ

Well-Knowing

ʿālimīna

٥١

And We had certainly given Abraham his sound judgement before,1 and We were of him well-Knowing

— Saheeh International

إِذْ

When

idh

قَالَ

he said

qāla

لِأَبِيهِ

to his father

li-abīhi

وَقَوْمِهِۦ

and his people

waqawmihi

مَا

What

هَـٰذِهِ

(are) these

hādhihi

ٱلتَّمَاثِيلُ

[the] statues

l-tamāthīlu

ٱلَّتِىٓ

which

allatī

أَنتُمْ

you

antum

لَهَا

to it

lahā

عَـٰكِفُونَ

(are) devoted

ʿākifūna

٥٢

When he said to his father and his people, "What are these statues to which you are devoted?"

— Saheeh International

قَالُوا۟

They said

qālū

وَجَدْنَآ

We found

wajadnā

ءَابَآءَنَا

our forefathers

ābāanā

لَهَا

of them

lahā

عَـٰبِدِينَ

worshippers

ʿābidīna

٥٣

They said, "We found our fathers worshippers of them."

— Saheeh International

قَالَ

He said

qāla

لَقَدْ

Verily

laqad

كُنتُمْ

you are

kuntum

أَنتُمْ

[you]

antum

وَءَابَآؤُكُمْ

and your forefathers

waābāukum

فِى

(were) in

ضَلَـٰلٍۢ

an error

ḍalālin

مُّبِينٍۢ

manifest

mubīnin

٥٤

He said, "You were certainly, you and your fathers, in manifest error."

— Saheeh International

قَالُوٓا۟

They said

qālū

أَجِئْتَنَا

Have you come to us

aji'tanā

بِٱلْحَقِّ

with the truth

bil-ḥaqi

أَمْ

or

am

أَنتَ

you

anta

مِنَ

(are) of

mina

ٱللَّـٰعِبِينَ

those who play

l-lāʿibīna

٥٥

They said, "Have you come to us with truth, or are you of those who jest?"

— Saheeh International

قَالَ

He said

qāla

بَل

Nay

bal

رَّبُّكُمْ

your Lord

rabbukum

رَبُّ

(is the) Lord

rabbu

ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ

(of) the heavens

l-samāwāti

وَٱلْأَرْضِ

and the earth

wal-arḍi

ٱلَّذِى

the One Who

alladhī

فَطَرَهُنَّ

created them

faṭarahunna

وَأَنَا۠

and I am

wa-anā

عَلَىٰ

to

ʿalā

ذَٰلِكُم

that

dhālikum

مِّنَ

of

mina

ٱلشَّـٰهِدِينَ

the witnesses

l-shāhidīna

٥٦

He said, "[No], rather, your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth who created them, and I, to that, am of those who testify.

— Saheeh International

وَتَٱللَّهِ

And by Allah

watal-lahi

لَأَكِيدَنَّ

surely, I will plan

la-akīdanna

أَصْنَـٰمَكُم

(against) your idols

aṣnāmakum

بَعْدَ

after

baʿda

أَن

[that]

an

تُوَلُّوا۟

you go away

tuwallū

مُدْبِرِينَ

turning (your) backs

mud'birīna

٥٧

And [I swear] by Allāh, I will surely plan against your idols after you have turned and gone away."

— Saheeh International

فَجَعَلَهُمْ

So he made them

fajaʿalahum

جُذَٰذًا

(into) pieces

judhādhan

إِلَّا

except

illā

كَبِيرًۭا

a large (one)

kabīran

لَّهُمْ

of them

lahum

لَعَلَّهُمْ

so that they may

laʿallahum

إِلَيْهِ

to it

ilayhi

يَرْجِعُونَ

return

yarjiʿūna

٥٨

So he made them into fragments, except a large one among them, that they might return to it [and question].

— Saheeh International

قَالُوا۟

They said

qālū

مَن

Who

man

فَعَلَ

(has) done

faʿala

هَـٰذَا

this

hādhā

بِـَٔالِهَتِنَآ

to our gods

biālihatinā

إِنَّهُۥ

Indeed, he

innahu

لَمِنَ

(is) of

lamina

ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ

the wrongdoers

l-ẓālimīna

٥٩

They said, "Who has done this to our gods? Indeed, he is of the wrongdoers."

— Saheeh International

قَالُوا۟

They said

qālū

سَمِعْنَا

We heard

samiʿ'nā

فَتًۭى

a youth

fatan

يَذْكُرُهُمْ

mention them

yadhkuruhum

يُقَالُ

he is called

yuqālu

لَهُۥٓ

he is called

lahu

إِبْرَٰهِيمُ

Ibrahim

ib'rāhīmu

٦٠

They said, "We heard a young man mention them who is called Abraham."

— Saheeh International

قَالُوا۟

They said

qālū

فَأْتُوا۟

Then bring

fatū

بِهِۦ

him

bihi

عَلَىٰٓ

before

ʿalā

أَعْيُنِ

(the) eyes

aʿyuni

ٱلنَّاسِ

(of) the people

l-nāsi

لَعَلَّهُمْ

so that they may

laʿallahum

يَشْهَدُونَ

bear witness

yashhadūna

٦١

They said, "Then bring him before the eyes of the people that they may testify."1

— Saheeh International

قَالُوٓا۟

They said

qālū

ءَأَنتَ

Have you

a-anta

فَعَلْتَ

done

faʿalta

هَـٰذَا

this

hādhā

بِـَٔالِهَتِنَا

to our gods

biālihatinā

يَـٰٓإِبْرَٰهِيمُ

O Ibrahim

yāib'rāhīmu

٦٢

They said, "Have you done this to our gods, O Abraham?"

— Saheeh International

قَالَ

He said

qāla

بَلْ

Nay

bal

فَعَلَهُۥ

(some doer) did it

faʿalahu

كَبِيرُهُمْ

Their chief

kabīruhum

هَـٰذَا

(is) this

hādhā

فَسْـَٔلُوهُمْ

So ask them

fasalūhum

إِن

if

in

كَانُوا۟

they (can)

kānū

يَنطِقُونَ

speak

yanṭiqūna

٦٣

He said, "Rather, this - the largest of them - did it, so ask them, if they should [be able to] speak."

— Saheeh International

فَرَجَعُوٓا۟

So they returned

farajaʿū

إِلَىٰٓ

to

ilā

أَنفُسِهِمْ

themselves

anfusihim

فَقَالُوٓا۟

and said

faqālū

إِنَّكُمْ

Indeed, you

innakum

أَنتُمُ

[you]

antumu

ٱلظَّـٰلِمُونَ

(are) the wrongdoers

l-ẓālimūna

٦٤

So they returned to [blaming] themselves and said [to each other], "Indeed, you are the wrongdoers."

— Saheeh International

ثُمَّ

Then

thumma

نُكِسُوا۟

they were turned

nukisū

عَلَىٰ

on

ʿalā

رُءُوسِهِمْ

their heads

ruūsihim

لَقَدْ

Verily

laqad

عَلِمْتَ

you know

ʿalim'ta

مَا

not

هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ

these

hāulāi

يَنطِقُونَ

(can) speak

yanṭiqūna

٦٥

Then they reversed themselves,1 [saying], "You have already known that these do not speak!"

— Saheeh International

قَالَ

He said

qāla

أَفَتَعْبُدُونَ

Then do you worship

afataʿbudūna

مِن

besides

min

دُونِ

besides

dūni

ٱللَّهِ

Allah

l-lahi

مَا

what

لَا

(does) not

يَنفَعُكُمْ

benefit you

yanfaʿukum

شَيْـًۭٔا

(in) anything

shayan

وَلَا

and not

walā

يَضُرُّكُمْ

harms you

yaḍurrukum

٦٦

He said, "Then do you worship instead of Allāh that which does not benefit you at all or harm you?

— Saheeh International

أُفٍّۢ

Uff

uffin

لَّكُمْ

to you

lakum

وَلِمَا

and to what

walimā

تَعْبُدُونَ

you worship

taʿbudūna

مِن

besides

min

دُونِ

besides

dūni

ٱللَّهِ ۖ

Allah

l-lahi

أَفَلَا

Then will not

afalā

تَعْقِلُونَ

you use reason

taʿqilūna

٦٧

Uff1 to you and to what you worship instead of Allāh. Then will you not use reason?"

— Saheeh International

قَالُوا۟

They said

qālū

حَرِّقُوهُ

Burn him

ḥarriqūhu

وَٱنصُرُوٓا۟

and support

wa-unṣurū

ءَالِهَتَكُمْ

your gods

ālihatakum

إِن

if

in

كُنتُمْ

you are

kuntum

فَـٰعِلِينَ

doers

fāʿilīna

٦٨

They said, "Burn him and support your gods - if you are to act."

— Saheeh International

قُلْنَا

We said

qul'nā

يَـٰنَارُ

O fire

yānāru

كُونِى

Be

kūnī

بَرْدًۭا

cool[ness]

bardan

وَسَلَـٰمًا

and safe[ty]

wasalāman

عَلَىٰٓ

for

ʿalā

إِبْرَٰهِيمَ

Ibrahim

ib'rāhīma

٦٩

We [i.e., Allāh] said, "O fire, be coolness and safety upon Abraham."

— Saheeh International

وَأَرَادُوا۟

And they intended

wa-arādū

بِهِۦ

for him

bihi

كَيْدًۭا

a plan

kaydan

فَجَعَلْنَـٰهُمُ

but We made them

fajaʿalnāhumu

ٱلْأَخْسَرِينَ

the greatest losers

l-akhsarīna

٧٠

And they intended for him a plan [i.e., harm], but We made them the greatest losers.

— Saheeh International

وَنَجَّيْنَـٰهُ

And We delivered him

wanajjaynāhu

وَلُوطًا

and Lut

walūṭan

إِلَى

to

ilā

ٱلْأَرْضِ

the land

l-arḍi

ٱلَّتِى

which

allatī

بَـٰرَكْنَا

We (had) blessed

bāraknā

فِيهَا

[in it]

fīhā

لِلْعَـٰلَمِينَ

for the worlds

lil'ʿālamīna

٧١

And We delivered him and Lot to the land which We had blessed for the worlds [i.e., peoples].

— Saheeh International

وَوَهَبْنَا

And We bestowed

wawahabnā

لَهُۥٓ

on him

lahu

إِسْحَـٰقَ

Isaac

is'ḥāqa

وَيَعْقُوبَ

and Yaqub

wayaʿqūba

نَافِلَةًۭ ۖ

(in) addition

nāfilatan

وَكُلًّۭا

and all

wakullan

جَعَلْنَا

We made

jaʿalnā

صَـٰلِحِينَ

righteous

ṣāliḥīna

٧٢

And We gave him Isaac and Jacob in addition, and all [of them] We made righteous.

— Saheeh International

وَجَعَلْنَـٰهُمْ

And We made them

wajaʿalnāhum

أَئِمَّةًۭ

leaders

a-immatan

يَهْدُونَ

they guide

yahdūna

بِأَمْرِنَا

by Our Command

bi-amrinā

وَأَوْحَيْنَآ

And We inspired

wa-awḥaynā

إِلَيْهِمْ

to them

ilayhim

فِعْلَ

(the) doing

fiʿ'la

ٱلْخَيْرَٰتِ

(of) good deeds

l-khayrāti

وَإِقَامَ

and establishment

wa-iqāma

ٱلصَّلَوٰةِ

(of) the prayer

l-ṣalati

وَإِيتَآءَ

and giving

waītāa

ٱلزَّكَوٰةِ ۖ

(of) zakah

l-zakati

وَكَانُوا۟

and they were

wakānū

لَنَا

of Us

lanā

عَـٰبِدِينَ

worshippers

ʿābidīna

٧٣

And We made them leaders guiding by Our command. And We inspired to them the doing of good deeds, establishment of prayer, and giving of zakāh; and they were worshippers of Us.

— Saheeh International

وَلُوطًا

And (to) Lut

walūṭan

ءَاتَيْنَـٰهُ

We gave him

ātaynāhu

حُكْمًۭا

judgment

ḥuk'man

وَعِلْمًۭا

and knowledge

waʿil'man

وَنَجَّيْنَـٰهُ

and We saved him

wanajjaynāhu

مِنَ

from

mina

ٱلْقَرْيَةِ

the town

l-qaryati

ٱلَّتِى

which

allatī

كَانَت

was

kānat

تَّعْمَلُ

doing

taʿmalu

ٱلْخَبَـٰٓئِثَ ۗ

wicked deeds

l-khabāitha

إِنَّهُمْ

Indeed, they

innahum

كَانُوا۟

were

kānū

قَوْمَ

a people

qawma

سَوْءٍۢ

evil

sawin

فَـٰسِقِينَ

defiantly disobedient

fāsiqīna

٧٤

And to Lot We gave judgement and knowledge, and We saved him from the city that was committing wicked deeds. Indeed, they were a people of evil, defiantly disobedient.

— Saheeh International

وَأَدْخَلْنَـٰهُ

And We admitted him

wa-adkhalnāhu

فِى

into

رَحْمَتِنَآ ۖ

Our Mercy

raḥmatinā

إِنَّهُۥ

Indeed, he

innahu

مِنَ

(was) of

mina

ٱلصَّـٰلِحِينَ

the righteous

l-ṣāliḥīna

٧٥

And We admitted him into Our mercy. Indeed, he was of the righteous.

— Saheeh International

وَنُوحًا

And Nuh

wanūḥan

إِذْ

when

idh

نَادَىٰ

he called

nādā

مِن

before

min

قَبْلُ

before

qablu

فَٱسْتَجَبْنَا

so We responded

fa-is'tajabnā

لَهُۥ

to him

lahu

فَنَجَّيْنَـٰهُ

and We saved him

fanajjaynāhu

وَأَهْلَهُۥ

and his family

wa-ahlahu

مِنَ

from

mina

ٱلْكَرْبِ

the affliction

l-karbi

ٱلْعَظِيمِ

[the] great

l-ʿaẓīmi

٧٦

And [mention] Noah, when he called [to Allāh]1 before [that time], so We responded to him and saved him and his family from the great affliction [i.e., the flood].

— Saheeh International

وَنَصَرْنَـٰهُ

And We helped him

wanaṣarnāhu

مِنَ

from

mina

ٱلْقَوْمِ

the people

l-qawmi

ٱلَّذِينَ

who

alladhīna

كَذَّبُوا۟

denied

kadhabū

بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَآ ۚ

Our Signs

biāyātinā

إِنَّهُمْ

Indeed, they

innahum

كَانُوا۟

were

kānū

قَوْمَ

a people

qawma

سَوْءٍۢ

evil

sawin

فَأَغْرَقْنَـٰهُمْ

so We drowned them

fa-aghraqnāhum

أَجْمَعِينَ

all

ajmaʿīna

٧٧

And We aided [i.e., saved] him from the people who denied Our signs. Indeed, they were a people of evil, so We drowned them, all together.

— Saheeh International

وَدَاوُۥدَ

And Dawud

wadāwūda

وَسُلَيْمَـٰنَ

and Sulaiman

wasulaymāna

إِذْ

when

idh

يَحْكُمَانِ

they judged

yaḥkumāni

فِى

concerning

ٱلْحَرْثِ

the field

l-ḥarthi

إِذْ

when

idh

نَفَشَتْ

pastured

nafashat

فِيهِ

in it

fīhi

غَنَمُ

sheep

ghanamu

ٱلْقَوْمِ

(of) a people

l-qawmi

وَكُنَّا

and We were

wakunnā

لِحُكْمِهِمْ

to their judgment

liḥuk'mihim

شَـٰهِدِينَ

witness

shāhidīna

٧٨

And [mention] David and Solomon, when they judged concerning the field - when the sheep of a people overran it [at night],1 and We were witness to their judgement.

— Saheeh International

فَفَهَّمْنَـٰهَا

And We gave understanding of it

fafahhamnāhā

سُلَيْمَـٰنَ ۚ

(to) Sulaiman

sulaymāna

وَكُلًّا

and (to) each

wakullan

ءَاتَيْنَا

We gave

ātaynā

حُكْمًۭا

judgment

ḥuk'man

وَعِلْمًۭا ۚ

and knowledge

waʿil'man

وَسَخَّرْنَا

And We subjected

wasakharnā

مَعَ

with

maʿa

دَاوُۥدَ

Dawud

dāwūda

ٱلْجِبَالَ

the mountains

l-jibāla

يُسَبِّحْنَ

(to) glorify Our praises

yusabbiḥ'na

وَٱلطَّيْرَ ۚ

and the birds

wal-ṭayra

وَكُنَّا

And We were

wakunnā

فَـٰعِلِينَ

the Doers

fāʿilīna

٧٩

And We gave understanding of it [i.e., the case] to Solomon, and to each [of them] We gave judgement and knowledge. And We subjected the mountains to exalt [Us], along with David and [also] the birds. And We were doing [that].1

— Saheeh International

وَعَلَّمْنَـٰهُ

And We taught him

waʿallamnāhu

صَنْعَةَ

(the) making

ṣanʿata

لَبُوسٍۢ

(of) coats of armor

labūsin

لَّكُمْ

for you

lakum

لِتُحْصِنَكُم

to protect you

lituḥ'ṣinakum

مِّنۢ

from

min

بَأْسِكُمْ ۖ

your battle

basikum

فَهَلْ

Then will

fahal

أَنتُمْ

you

antum

شَـٰكِرُونَ

(be) grateful

shākirūna

٨٠

And We taught him the fashioning of coats of armor to protect you from your [enemy in] battle. So will you then be grateful?

— Saheeh International

وَلِسُلَيْمَـٰنَ

And to Sulaiman

walisulaymāna

ٱلرِّيحَ

the wind

l-rīḥa

عَاصِفَةًۭ

forcefully

ʿāṣifatan

تَجْرِى

blowing

tajrī

بِأَمْرِهِۦٓ

by his command

bi-amrihi

إِلَى

to

ilā

ٱلْأَرْضِ

the land

l-arḍi

ٱلَّتِى

which

allatī

بَـٰرَكْنَا

We blessed

bāraknā

فِيهَا ۚ

[in it]

fīhā

وَكُنَّا

And We are

wakunnā

بِكُلِّ

of every

bikulli

شَىْءٍ

thing

shayin

عَـٰلِمِينَ

Knowers

ʿālimīna

٨١

And to Solomon [We subjected] the wind, blowing forcefully, proceeding by his command toward the land which We had blessed. And We are ever, of all things, Knowing.

— Saheeh International

وَمِنَ

And of

wamina

ٱلشَّيَـٰطِينِ

the devils

l-shayāṭīni

مَن

(were some) who

man

يَغُوصُونَ

would dive

yaghūṣūna

لَهُۥ

for him

lahu

وَيَعْمَلُونَ

and would do

wayaʿmalūna

عَمَلًۭا

work

ʿamalan

دُونَ

other than

dūna

ذَٰلِكَ ۖ

that

dhālika

وَكُنَّا

And We were

wakunnā

لَهُمْ

of them

lahum

حَـٰفِظِينَ

Guardians

ḥāfiẓīna

٨٢

And of the devils [i.e., jinn] were those who dived for him and did work other than that. And We were of them a guardian.1

— Saheeh International

۞ وَأَيُّوبَ

And Ayub

wa-ayyūba

إِذْ

when

idh

نَادَىٰ

he called

nādā

رَبَّهُۥٓ

(to) his Lord

rabbahu

أَنِّى

Indeed, [I]

annī

مَسَّنِىَ

has touched me

massaniya

ٱلضُّرُّ

the adversity

l-ḍuru

وَأَنتَ

and You

wa-anta

أَرْحَمُ

(are) Most Merciful

arḥamu

ٱلرَّٰحِمِينَ

(of) the Merciful

l-rāḥimīna

٨٣

And [mention] Job, when he called to his Lord, "Indeed, adversity has touched me, and You are the most merciful of the merciful."

— Saheeh International

فَٱسْتَجَبْنَا

So We responded

fa-is'tajabnā

لَهُۥ

to him

lahu

فَكَشَفْنَا

and We removed

fakashafnā

مَا

what

بِهِۦ

(was) on him

bihi

مِن

of

min

ضُرٍّۢ ۖ

(the) adversity

ḍurrin

وَءَاتَيْنَـٰهُ

And We gave him

waātaynāhu

أَهْلَهُۥ

his family

ahlahu

وَمِثْلَهُم

and (the) like thereof

wamith'lahum

مَّعَهُمْ

with them

maʿahum

رَحْمَةًۭ

(as) Mercy

raḥmatan

مِّنْ

from Ourselves

min

عِندِنَا

from Ourselves

ʿindinā

وَذِكْرَىٰ

and a reminder

wadhik'rā

لِلْعَـٰبِدِينَ

for the worshippers

lil'ʿābidīna

٨٤

So We responded to him and removed what afflicted him of adversity. And We gave him [back] his family and the like thereof with them as mercy from Us and a reminder for the worshippers [of Allāh].

— Saheeh International

وَإِسْمَـٰعِيلَ

And Ishmael

wa-is'māʿīla

وَإِدْرِيسَ

and Idris

wa-id'rīsa

وَذَا

and Dhul-Kifl

wadhā

ٱلْكِفْلِ ۖ

and Dhul-Kifl

l-kif'li

كُلٌّۭ

all

kullun

مِّنَ

(were) of

mina

ٱلصَّـٰبِرِينَ

the patient ones

l-ṣābirīna

٨٥

And [mention] Ishmael and Idrees and Dhul-Kifl; all were of the patient.

— Saheeh International

وَأَدْخَلْنَـٰهُمْ

And We admitted them

wa-adkhalnāhum

فِى

in

رَحْمَتِنَآ ۖ

Our Mercy

raḥmatinā

إِنَّهُم

Indeed, they

innahum

مِّنَ

(were) of

mina

ٱلصَّـٰلِحِينَ

the righteous

l-ṣāliḥīna

٨٦

And We admitted them into Our mercy. Indeed, they were of the righteous.

— Saheeh International

وَذَا

And Dhun-Nun

wadhā

ٱلنُّونِ

And Dhun-Nun

l-nūni

إِذ

when

idh

ذَّهَبَ

he went

dhahaba

مُغَـٰضِبًۭا

(while) angry

mughāḍiban

فَظَنَّ

and thought

faẓanna

أَن

that

an

لَّن

never

lan

نَّقْدِرَ

We would decree

naqdira

عَلَيْهِ

upon him

ʿalayhi

فَنَادَىٰ

Then he called

fanādā

فِى

in

ٱلظُّلُمَـٰتِ

the darkness(es)

l-ẓulumāti

أَن

that

an

لَّآ

(There is) no

إِلَـٰهَ

god

ilāha

إِلَّآ

except

illā

أَنتَ

You

anta

سُبْحَـٰنَكَ

Glory be to You

sub'ḥānaka

إِنِّى

Indeed, [I]

innī

كُنتُ

I am

kuntu

مِنَ

of

mina

ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ

the wrongdoers

l-ẓālimīna

٨٧

And [mention] the man of the fish [i.e., Jonah], when he went off in anger1 and thought that We would not decree [anything] upon him.2 And he called out within the darknesses,3 "There is no deity except You; exalted are You. Indeed, I have been of the wrongdoers."

— Saheeh International

فَٱسْتَجَبْنَا

So We responded

fa-is'tajabnā

لَهُۥ

to him

lahu

وَنَجَّيْنَـٰهُ

and We saved him

wanajjaynāhu

مِنَ

from

mina

ٱلْغَمِّ ۚ

the distress

l-ghami

وَكَذَٰلِكَ

And thus

wakadhālika

نُـۨجِى

We save

nunjī

ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ

the believers

l-mu'minīna

٨٨

So We responded to him and saved him from the distress. And thus do We save the believers.

— Saheeh International

وَزَكَرِيَّآ

And Zakariya

wazakariyyā

إِذْ

when

idh

نَادَىٰ

he called

nādā

رَبَّهُۥ

(to) his Lord

rabbahu

رَبِّ

My Lord

rabbi

لَا

(Do) not

تَذَرْنِى

leave me

tadharnī

فَرْدًۭا

alone

fardan

وَأَنتَ

while You

wa-anta

خَيْرُ

(are) [the] Best

khayru

ٱلْوَٰرِثِينَ

(of) the inheritors

l-wārithīna

٨٩

And [mention] Zechariah, when he called to his Lord, "My Lord, do not leave me alone [with no heir], while You are the best of inheritors."

— Saheeh International

فَٱسْتَجَبْنَا

So We responded

fa-is'tajabnā

لَهُۥ

to him

lahu

وَوَهَبْنَا

and We bestowed

wawahabnā

لَهُۥ

on him

lahu

يَحْيَىٰ

Yahya

yaḥyā

وَأَصْلَحْنَا

and We cured

wa-aṣlaḥnā

لَهُۥ

for him

lahu

زَوْجَهُۥٓ ۚ

his wife

zawjahu

إِنَّهُمْ

Indeed, they

innahum

كَانُوا۟

used (to)

kānū

يُسَـٰرِعُونَ

hasten

yusāriʿūna

فِى

in

ٱلْخَيْرَٰتِ

good deeds

l-khayrāti

وَيَدْعُونَنَا

and they supplicate to Us

wayadʿūnanā

رَغَبًۭا

(in) hope

raghaban

وَرَهَبًۭا ۖ

and fear

warahaban

وَكَانُوا۟

and they were

wakānū

لَنَا

to Us

lanā

خَـٰشِعِينَ

humbly submissive

khāshiʿīna

٩٠

So We responded to him, and We gave to him John, and amended for him his wife. Indeed, they used to hasten to good deeds and supplicate1 Us in hope and fear, and they were to Us humbly submissive.

— Saheeh International

وَٱلَّتِىٓ

And she who

wa-allatī

أَحْصَنَتْ

guarded

aḥṣanat

فَرْجَهَا

her chastity

farjahā

فَنَفَخْنَا

so We breathed

fanafakhnā

فِيهَا

into her

fīhā

مِن

of

min

رُّوحِنَا

Our Spirit

rūḥinā

وَجَعَلْنَـٰهَا

and We made her

wajaʿalnāhā

وَٱبْنَهَآ

and her son

wa-ib'nahā

ءَايَةًۭ

a sign

āyatan

لِّلْعَـٰلَمِينَ

for the worlds

lil'ʿālamīna

٩١

And [mention] the one who guarded her chastity [i.e., Mary], so We blew into her [garment] through Our angel [i.e., Gabriel], and We made her and her son a sign for the worlds.

— Saheeh International

إِنَّ

Indeed

inna

هَـٰذِهِۦٓ

this

hādhihi

أُمَّتُكُمْ

(is) your religion

ummatukum

أُمَّةًۭ

religion

ummatan

وَٰحِدَةًۭ

one

wāḥidatan

وَأَنَا۠

and I Am

wa-anā

رَبُّكُمْ

your Lord

rabbukum

فَٱعْبُدُونِ

so worship Me

fa-uʿ'budūni

٩٢

Indeed this, your religion, is one religion,1 and I am your Lord, so worship Me.

— Saheeh International

وَتَقَطَّعُوٓا۟

But they cut off

wataqaṭṭaʿū

أَمْرَهُم

their affair

amrahum

بَيْنَهُمْ ۖ

among themselves

baynahum

كُلٌّ

all

kullun

إِلَيْنَا

to Us

ilaynā

رَٰجِعُونَ

(will) return

rājiʿūna

٩٣

And [yet] they divided their affair [i.e., that of their religion] among themselves,1 [but] all to Us will return.

— Saheeh International

فَمَن

Then whoever

faman

يَعْمَلْ

does

yaʿmal

مِنَ

[of]

mina

ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ

[the] righteous deeds

l-ṣāliḥāti

وَهُوَ

while he

wahuwa

مُؤْمِنٌۭ

(is) a believer

mu'minun

فَلَا

then not

falā

كُفْرَانَ

(will be) rejected

kuf'rāna

لِسَعْيِهِۦ

[of] his effort

lisaʿyihi

وَإِنَّا

And indeed, We

wa-innā

لَهُۥ

of it

lahu

كَـٰتِبُونَ

(are) Recorders

kātibūna

٩٤

So whoever does righteous deeds while he is a believer - no denial will there be for his effort,1 and indeed We [i.e., Our angels], of it, are recorders.

— Saheeh International

وَحَرَٰمٌ

And (there is) prohibition

waḥarāmun

عَلَىٰ

upon

ʿalā

قَرْيَةٍ

a city

qaryatin

أَهْلَكْنَـٰهَآ

which We have destroyed

ahlaknāhā

أَنَّهُمْ

that they

annahum

لَا

not

يَرْجِعُونَ

will return

yarjiʿūna

٩٥

And it is prohibited to [the people of] a city which We have destroyed that they will [ever] return1

— Saheeh International

حَتَّىٰٓ

Until

ḥattā

إِذَا

when

idhā

فُتِحَتْ

has been opened

futiḥat

يَأْجُوجُ

(for) the Yajuj

yajūju

وَمَأْجُوجُ

and Majuj

wamajūju

وَهُم

and they

wahum

مِّن

from

min

كُلِّ

every

kulli

حَدَبٍۢ

elevation

ḥadabin

يَنسِلُونَ

descend

yansilūna

٩٦

Until when [the dam of] Gog and Magog has been opened and they, from every elevation, descend

— Saheeh International

وَٱقْتَرَبَ

And has approached

wa-iq'taraba

ٱلْوَعْدُ

the promise

l-waʿdu

ٱلْحَقُّ

[the] true

l-ḥaqu

فَإِذَا

then behold

fa-idhā

هِىَ

[it]

hiya

شَـٰخِصَةٌ

(are) staring

shākhiṣatun

أَبْصَـٰرُ

(the) eyes

abṣāru

ٱلَّذِينَ

(of) those who

alladhīna

كَفَرُوا۟

disbelieved

kafarū

يَـٰوَيْلَنَا

O woe to us

yāwaylanā

قَدْ

Verily

qad

كُنَّا

we had been

kunnā

فِى

in

غَفْلَةٍۢ

heedlessness

ghaflatin

مِّنْ

of

min

هَـٰذَا

this

hādhā

بَلْ

nay

bal

كُنَّا

we were

kunnā

ظَـٰلِمِينَ

wrongdoers

ẓālimīna

٩٧

And [when] the true promise [i.e., the resurrection] has approached; then suddenly the eyes of those who disbelieved will be staring [in horror, while they say], "O woe to us; we had been unmindful of this; rather, we were wrongdoers."

— Saheeh International

إِنَّكُمْ

Indeed, you

innakum

وَمَا

and what

wamā

تَعْبُدُونَ

you worship

taʿbudūna

مِن

besides Allah

min

دُونِ

besides Allah

dūni

ٱللَّهِ

besides Allah

l-lahi

حَصَبُ

(are) firewood

ḥaṣabu

جَهَنَّمَ

(of) Hell

jahannama

أَنتُمْ

You

antum

لَهَا

to it

lahā

وَٰرِدُونَ

will come

wāridūna

٩٨

Indeed, you [disbelievers] and what you worship other than Allāh are the firewood of Hell. You will be coming to [enter] it.

— Saheeh International

لَوْ

If

law

كَانَ

were

kāna

هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ

these

hāulāi

ءَالِهَةًۭ

gods

ālihatan

مَّا

not

وَرَدُوهَا ۖ

they (would) have come to it

waradūhā

وَكُلٌّۭ

And all

wakullun

فِيهَا

therein

fīhā

خَـٰلِدُونَ

will abide forever

khālidūna

٩٩

Had these [false deities] been [actual] gods, they would not have come to it, but all are eternal therein.

— Saheeh International

لَهُمْ

For them

lahum

فِيهَا

therein

fīhā

زَفِيرٌۭ

(is) sighing

zafīrun

وَهُمْ

and they

wahum

فِيهَا

therein

fīhā

لَا

not

يَسْمَعُونَ

will hear

yasmaʿūna

١٠٠

For them therein is heavy sighing, and they therein will not hear.

— Saheeh International

إِنَّ

Indeed

inna

ٱلَّذِينَ

those

alladhīna

سَبَقَتْ

has gone forth

sabaqat

لَهُم

for them

lahum

مِّنَّا

from Us

minnā

ٱلْحُسْنَىٰٓ

the good

l-ḥus'nā

أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ

those

ulāika

عَنْهَا

from it

ʿanhā

مُبْعَدُونَ

(will be) removed far

mub'ʿadūna

١٠١

Indeed, those for whom the best [reward] has preceded from Us - they are from it far removed.

— Saheeh International

لَا

Not

يَسْمَعُونَ

they will hear

yasmaʿūna

حَسِيسَهَا ۖ

(the) slightest sound of it

ḥasīsahā

وَهُمْ

and they

wahum

فِى

in

مَا

what

ٱشْتَهَتْ

desire

ish'tahat

أَنفُسُهُمْ

their souls

anfusuhum

خَـٰلِدُونَ

will abide forever

khālidūna

١٠٢

They will not hear its sound, while they are, in that which their souls desire, abiding eternally.

— Saheeh International

لَا

Not

يَحْزُنُهُمُ

will grieve them

yaḥzunuhumu

ٱلْفَزَعُ

the terror

l-fazaʿu

ٱلْأَكْبَرُ

[the] greatest

l-akbaru

وَتَتَلَقَّىٰهُمُ

and will meet them

watatalaqqāhumu

ٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةُ

the Angels

l-malāikatu

هَـٰذَا

This

hādhā

يَوْمُكُمُ

(is) your Day

yawmukumu

ٱلَّذِى

which

alladhī

كُنتُمْ

you were

kuntum

تُوعَدُونَ

promised

tūʿadūna

١٠٣

They will not be grieved by the greatest terror,1 and the angels will meet them, [saying], "This is your Day which you have been promised" -

— Saheeh International

يَوْمَ

(The) Day

yawma

نَطْوِى

We will fold

naṭwī

ٱلسَّمَآءَ

the heaven

l-samāa

كَطَىِّ

like (the) folding

kaṭayyi

ٱلسِّجِلِّ

(of) a scroll

l-sijili

لِلْكُتُبِ ۚ

for records

lil'kutubi

كَمَا

As

kamā

بَدَأْنَآ

We began

badanā

أَوَّلَ

(the) first

awwala

خَلْقٍۢ

creation

khalqin

نُّعِيدُهُۥ ۚ

We will repeat it

nuʿīduhu

وَعْدًا

a promise

waʿdan

عَلَيْنَآ ۚ

upon Us

ʿalaynā

إِنَّا

Indeed, We

innā

كُنَّا

We are

kunnā

فَـٰعِلِينَ

(the) Doers

fāʿilīna

١٠٤

The Day when We will fold the heaven like the folding of a [written] sheet for the records. As We began the first creation, We will repeat it. [That is] a promise binding upon Us. Indeed, We will do it.1

— Saheeh International

وَلَقَدْ

And verily

walaqad

كَتَبْنَا

We have written

katabnā

فِى

in

ٱلزَّبُورِ

the Scripture

l-zabūri

مِنۢ

after

min

بَعْدِ

after

baʿdi

ٱلذِّكْرِ

the mention

l-dhik'ri

أَنَّ

that

anna

ٱلْأَرْضَ

the earth

l-arḍa

يَرِثُهَا

will inherit it

yarithuhā

عِبَادِىَ

My slaves

ʿibādiya

ٱلصَّـٰلِحُونَ

the righteous

l-ṣāliḥūna

١٠٥

And We have already written in the book [of Psalms]1 after the [previous] mention2 that the land [of Paradise] is inherited by My righteous servants.

— Saheeh International

إِنَّ

Indeed

inna

فِى

in

هَـٰذَا

this

hādhā

لَبَلَـٰغًۭا

surely is a Message

labalāghan

لِّقَوْمٍ

for a people

liqawmin

عَـٰبِدِينَ

worshippers

ʿābidīna

١٠٦

Indeed, in this [Qur’ān] is notification for a worshipping people.

— Saheeh International

وَمَآ

And not

wamā

أَرْسَلْنَـٰكَ

We have sent you

arsalnāka

إِلَّا

but

illā

رَحْمَةًۭ

(as) a mercy

raḥmatan

لِّلْعَـٰلَمِينَ

for the worlds

lil'ʿālamīna

١٠٧

And We have not sent you, [O Muḥammad], except as a mercy to the worlds.

— Saheeh International

قُلْ

Say

qul

إِنَّمَا

Only

innamā

يُوحَىٰٓ

it is revealed

yūḥā

إِلَىَّ

to me

ilayya

أَنَّمَآ

that

annamā

إِلَـٰهُكُمْ

your god

ilāhukum

إِلَـٰهٌۭ

(is) God

ilāhun

وَٰحِدٌۭ ۖ

One

wāḥidun

فَهَلْ

so will

fahal

أَنتُم

you

antum

مُّسْلِمُونَ

submit (to Him)

mus'limūna

١٠٨

Say, "It is only revealed to me that your god is but one God; so will you be Muslims [in submission to Him]?"

— Saheeh International

فَإِن

But if

fa-in

تَوَلَّوْا۟

they turn away

tawallaw

فَقُلْ

then say

faqul

ءَاذَنتُكُمْ

I (have) announced to you

ādhantukum

عَلَىٰ

equally

ʿalā

سَوَآءٍۢ ۖ

equally

sawāin

وَإِنْ

And not

wa-in

أَدْرِىٓ

I know

adrī

أَقَرِيبٌ

whether is near

aqarībun

أَم

or

am

بَعِيدٌۭ

far

baʿīdun

مَّا

what

تُوعَدُونَ

you are promised

tūʿadūna

١٠٩

But if they turn away, then say, "I have announced to [all of] you equally.1 And I know not whether near or far is that which you are promised.

— Saheeh International

إِنَّهُۥ

Indeed, He

innahu

يَعْلَمُ

knows

yaʿlamu

ٱلْجَهْرَ

the declared

l-jahra

مِنَ

[of]

mina

ٱلْقَوْلِ

[the] speech

l-qawli

وَيَعْلَمُ

and He knows

wayaʿlamu

مَا

what

تَكْتُمُونَ

you conceal

taktumūna

١١٠

Indeed, He knows what is declared of speech, and He knows what you conceal.

— Saheeh International

وَإِنْ

And not

wa-in

أَدْرِى

I know

adrī

لَعَلَّهُۥ

perhaps it may be

laʿallahu

فِتْنَةٌۭ

a trial

fit'natun

لَّكُمْ

for you

lakum

وَمَتَـٰعٌ

and an enjoyment

wamatāʿun

إِلَىٰ

for

ilā

حِينٍۢ

a time

ḥīnin

١١١

And I know not; perhaps it1 is a trial for you and enjoyment for a time."

— Saheeh International

قَـٰلَ

He said

qāla

رَبِّ

My Lord

rabbi

ٱحْكُم

judge

uḥ'kum

بِٱلْحَقِّ ۗ

in truth

bil-ḥaqi

وَرَبُّنَا

And our Lord

warabbunā

ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنُ

(is) the Most Gracious

l-raḥmānu

ٱلْمُسْتَعَانُ

the One Whose help is sought

l-mus'taʿānu

عَلَىٰ

against

ʿalā

مَا

what

تَصِفُونَ

you attribute

taṣifūna

١١٢

[The Prophet (ﷺ)] has said, "My Lord, judge [between us] in truth. And our Lord is the Most Merciful, the one whose help is sought against that which you describe."1

— Saheeh International
