The Victory
﷽
الفتح
إِنَّا Indeed innā We have given victory fataḥnā to you laka a victory fatḥan clear mubīnan
Indeed, We have given you, [O Muḥammad], a clear conquest1
لِّيَغْفِرَ That may forgive liyaghfira for you laka Allah l-lahu what mā preceded taqaddama of min your sins dhanbika and what wamā will follow ta-akhara and complete wayutimma His favor niʿ'matahu upon you ʿalayka and guide you wayahdiyaka (to) a Path ṣirāṭan Straight mus'taqīman
That Allāh may forgive for you what preceded of your sin [i.e., errors] and what will follow and complete His favor upon you and guide you to a straight path
وَيَنصُرَكَ And Allah may help you wayanṣuraka And Allah may help you l-lahu (with) a help naṣran mighty ʿazīzan
And [that] Allāh may aid you with a mighty victory.
هُوَ He huwa (is) the One Who alladhī sent down anzala [the] tranquility l-sakīnata in(to) fī (the) hearts qulūbi (of) the believers l-mu'minīna that they may increase liyazdādū (in) faith īmānan with maʿa their faith īmānihim And for Allah walillahi (are the) hosts junūdu (of) the heavens l-samāwāti and the earth wal-arḍi and Allah wakāna and Allah l-lahu (is) All-Knower ʿalīman All-Wise ḥakīman
It is He who sent down tranquility into the hearts of the believers that they would increase in faith along with their [present] faith. And to Allāh belong the soldiers of the heavens and the earth, and ever is Allāh Knowing and Wise.
لِّيُدْخِلَ That He may admit liyud'khila the believing men l-mu'minīna and the believing women wal-mu'mināti (to) Gardens jannātin flow tajrī from min underneath them taḥtihā the rivers l-anhāru (to) abide forever khālidīna therein fīhā and (to) remove wayukaffira from them ʿanhum their misdeeds sayyiātihim and is wakāna that dhālika with ʿinda Allah l-lahi a success fawzan great ʿaẓīman
[And] that He may admit the believing men and the believing women to gardens beneath which rivers flow to abide therein eternally and remove from them their misdeeds - and ever is that, in the sight of Allāh, a great attainment
وَيُعَذِّبَ And He (may) punish wayuʿadhiba the hypocrite men l-munāfiqīna and the hypocrite women wal-munāfiqāti and the polytheist men wal-mush'rikīna and the polytheist women wal-mush'rikāti who assume l-ẓānīna about Allah bil-lahi an assumption ẓanna evil l-sawi Upon them ʿalayhim (is) a turn dāiratu (of) evil l-sawi and Allah's wrath (is) waghaḍiba and Allah's wrath (is) l-lahu upon them ʿalayhim and He has cursed them walaʿanahum and prepared wa-aʿadda for them lahum Hell jahannama and evil wasāat (is the) destination maṣīran
And [that] He may punish the hypocrite men and hypocrite women, and the polytheist men and polytheist women - those who assume about Allāh an assumption of evil nature. Upon them is a misfortune of evil nature; and Allāh has become angry with them and has cursed them and prepared for them Hell, and evil it is as a destination.
وَلِلَّهِ And for Allah walillahi (are the) hosts junūdu (of) the heavens l-samāwāti and the earth wal-arḍi and Allah wakāna and Allah l-lahu (is) All-Mighty ʿazīzan All-Wise ḥakīman
And to Allāh belong the soldiers of the heavens and the earth. And ever is Allāh Exalted in Might and Wise.
إِنَّآ Indeed, We innā [We] have sent you arsalnāka (as) a witness shāhidan and (as) a bearer of glad tidings wamubashiran and (as) a warner wanadhīran
Indeed, We have sent you as a witness and a bringer of good tidings and a warner
لِّتُؤْمِنُوا۟ That you may believe litu'minū in Allah bil-lahi and His Messenger warasūlihi and (may) honor him watuʿazzirūhu and respect him watuwaqqirūhu and glorify Him watusabbiḥūhu morning buk'ratan and evening wa-aṣīlan
That you [people] may believe in Allāh and His Messenger and honor him and respect him [i.e., the Prophet (ﷺ)] and exalt Him [i.e., Allāh] morning and afternoon.
إِنَّ Indeed inna those who alladhīna pledge allegiance to you yubāyiʿūnaka only innamā they pledge allegiance yubāyiʿūna (to) Allah l-laha (The) Hand yadu (of) Allah l-lahi (is) over fawqa their hands aydīhim Then whoever faman breaks (his oath) nakatha then only fa-innamā he breaks yankuthu against ʿalā himself nafsihi and whoever waman fulfils awfā what bimā he has covenanted ʿāhada (with) ʿalayhu Allah l-laha soon He will give him fasayu'tīhi a reward ajran great ʿaẓīman
Indeed, those who pledge allegiance to you, [O Muḥammad] - they are actually pledging allegiance to Allāh. The hand1 of Allāh is over their hands.2 So he who breaks his word only breaks it to the detriment of himself. And he who fulfills that which he has promised Allāh - He will give him a great reward.
سَيَقُولُ Will say sayaqūlu to you laka those who remained behind l-mukhalafūna of mina the Bedouins l-aʿrābi Kept us busy shaghalatnā our properties amwālunā and our families wa-ahlūnā so ask forgiveness fa-is'taghfir for us lanā They say yaqūlūna with their tongues bi-alsinatihim what mā is not laysa in fī their hearts qulūbihim Say qul Then who faman has power yamliku for you lakum against mina Allah l-lahi (in) anything shayan if in He intends arāda for you bikum harm ḍarran or aw He intends arāda for you bikum a benefit nafʿan Nay bal is kāna Allah l-lahu of what bimā you do taʿmalūna All-Aware khabīran
Those who remained behind1 of the bedouins will say to you, "Our properties and our families occupied us, so ask forgiveness for us." They say with their tongues what is not within their hearts. Say, "Then who could prevent Allāh at all if He intended for you harm or intended for you benefit? Rather, ever is Allāh, of what you do, Aware.
بَلْ Nay bal you thought ẓanantum that an (would) never lan return yanqaliba the Messenger l-rasūlu and the believers wal-mu'minūna to ilā their families ahlīhim ever abadan that was made fair-seeming wazuyyina that was made fair-seeming dhālika in fī your hearts qulūbikum And you assumed waẓanantum an assumption ẓanna evil l-sawi and you became wakuntum a people qawman ruined būran
But you thought that the Messenger and the believers would never return to their families, ever, and that was made pleasing in your hearts. And you assumed an assumption of evil and became a people ruined."
وَمَن And whoever waman (has) not believed lam (has) not believed yu'min in Allah bil-lahi and His Messenger warasūlihi then indeed, We fa-innā [We] have prepared aʿtadnā for the disbelievers lil'kāfirīna a Blazing Fire saʿīran
And whoever has not believed in Allāh and His Messenger - then indeed, We have prepared for the disbelievers a Blaze.
وَلِلَّهِ And for Allah walillahi (is the) kingdom mul'ku (of) the heavens l-samāwāti and the earth wal-arḍi He forgives yaghfiru whom liman He wills yashāu and punishes wayuʿadhibu whom man He wills yashāu And is wakāna Allah l-lahu Oft-Forgiving ghafūran Most Merciful raḥīman
And to Allāh belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth. He forgives whom He wills and punishes whom He wills. And ever is Allāh Forgiving and Merciful.
سَيَقُولُ Will say sayaqūlu those who remained behind l-mukhalafūna when idhā you set forth inṭalaqtum towards ilā (the) spoils of war maghānima to take it litakhudhūhā Allow us dharūnā (to) follow you nattabiʿ'kum They wish yurīdūna to an change yubaddilū (the) Words kalāma (of) Allah l-lahi Say qul Never lan will you follow us tattabiʿūnā Thus kadhālikum Allah said qāla Allah said l-lahu before min before qablu Then they will say fasayaqūlūna Nay bal you envy us taḥsudūnanā Nay bal they were kānū not lā understanding yafqahūna except illā a little qalīlan
Those who remained1 behind will say when you set out toward the war booty to take it, "Let us follow you." They wish to change the words of Allāh. Say, "Never will you follow us. Thus did Allāh say before." So they will say, "Rather, you envy us." But [in fact] they were not understanding except a little.2
قُل Say qul to those who remained behind lil'mukhallafīna of mina the Bedouins l-aʿrābi You will be called satud'ʿawna to ilā a people qawmin possessors of military might ulī possessors of military might basin great shadīdin you will fight them tuqātilūnahum or aw they will submit yus'limūna Then if fa-in you obey tuṭīʿū Allah will give you yu'tikumu Allah will give you l-lahu a reward ajran good ḥasanan but if wa-in you turn away tatawallaw as kamā you turned away tawallaytum before min before qablu He will punish you yuʿadhib'kum (with) a punishment ʿadhāban painful alīman
Say to those who remained behind of the bedouins, "You will be called to [face] a people of great military might; you may fight them, or they will submit.1 So if you obey, Allāh will give you a good reward; but if you turn away as you turned away before, He will punish you with a painful punishment."
لَّيْسَ Not is laysa upon ʿalā the blind l-aʿmā any blame ḥarajun and not walā on ʿalā the lame l-aʿraji any blame ḥarajun and not walā on ʿalā the sick l-marīḍi any blame ḥarajun And whoever waman obeys yuṭiʿi Allah l-laha and His Messenger warasūlahu He will admit him yud'khil'hu (to) Gardens jannātin flow tajrī from min underneath them taḥtihā the rivers l-anhāru but whoever waman turns away yatawalla He will punish him yuʿadhib'hu (with) a punishment ʿadhāban painful alīman
There is not upon the blind any guilt or upon the lame any guilt or upon the ill any guilt [for remaining behind]. And whoever obeys Allāh and His Messenger - He will admit him to gardens beneath which rivers flow; but whoever turns away - He will punish him with a painful punishment.
۞ لَّقَدْ Certainly laqad Allah was pleased raḍiya Allah was pleased l-lahu with ʿani the believers l-mu'minīna when idh they pledged allegiance to you yubāyiʿūnaka under taḥta the tree l-shajarati and He knew faʿalima what mā (was) in fī their hearts qulūbihim so He sent down fa-anzala the tranquility l-sakīnata upon them ʿalayhim and rewarded them wa-athābahum (with) a victory fatḥan near qarīban
Certainly was Allāh pleased with the believers when they pledged allegiance to you, [O Muḥammad], under the tree, and He knew what was in their hearts, so He sent down tranquility upon them and rewarded them with an imminent conquest1
وَمَغَانِمَ And spoils of war wamaghānima much kathīratan that they will take yakhudhūnahā and is wakāna Allah l-lahu All-Mighty ʿazīzan All-Wise ḥakīman
And much war booty which they will take. And ever is Allāh Exalted in Might and Wise.
وَعَدَكُمُ Allah has promised you waʿadakumu Allah has promised you l-lahu spoils of war maghānima much kathīratan that you will take it takhudhūnahā and He has hastened faʿajjala for you lakum this hādhihi and has withheld wakaffa (the) hands aydiya (of) the people l-nāsi from you ʿankum that it may be walitakūna a sign āyatan for the believers lil'mu'minīna and He may guide you wayahdiyakum (to the) Path ṣirāṭan Straight mus'taqīman
Allāh has promised you much booty that you will take [in the future] and has hastened for you this [victory] and withheld the hands of people from you - that it may be a sign for the believers and [that] He may guide you to a straight path.
وَأُخْرَىٰ And others wa-ukh'rā not lam you had power taqdirū over them ʿalayhā surely qad Allah encompassed aḥāṭa Allah encompassed l-lahu them bihā and is wakāna Allah l-lahu over ʿalā all kulli things shayin All-Powerful qadīran
And [He promises] other [victories] that you were [so far] unable to [realize] which Allāh has already encompassed.1 And ever is Allāh, over all things, competent.
وَلَوْ And if walaw fight you qātalakumu those who alladhīna disbelieve kafarū surely they would turn lawallawū the backs l-adbāra Then thumma not lā they would find yajidūna any protector waliyyan and not walā any helper naṣīran
And if those [Makkans] who disbelieve had fought you, they would have turned their backs [in flight]. Then they would not find a protector or a helper.
سُنَّةَ (The established) way sunnata (of) Allah l-lahi which allatī passed away qad passed away khalat before min before qablu and never walan you will find tajida in (the) way of Allah lisunnati in (the) way of Allah l-lahi any change tabdīlan
[This is] the established way of Allāh which has occurred before. And never will you find in the way of Allāh any change.
وَهُوَ And He wahuwa (is) the One Who alladhī withheld kaffa their hands aydiyahum from you ʿankum and your hands wa-aydiyakum from them ʿanhum within bibaṭni Makkah makkata after min after baʿdi that an He gave you victory aẓfarakum over them ʿalayhim And is wakāna Allah l-lahu of what bimā you do taʿmalūna All-Seer baṣīran
And it is He who withheld their hands from you and your hands from them within [the area of] Makkah after He caused you to overcome them. And ever is Allāh, of what you do, Seeing.
هُمُ They humu (are) those who alladhīna disbelieved kafarū and hindered you waṣaddūkum from ʿani Al-Masjid Al-Haraam l-masjidi Al-Masjid Al-Haraam l-ḥarāmi while the offering wal-hadya (was) prevented maʿkūfan from an reaching yablugha its place (of sacrifice) maḥillahu And if not walawlā (for) men rijālun believing mu'minūna and women wanisāon believing mu'minātun not lam you knew them taʿlamūhum that an you may trample them taṭaūhum and would befall you fatuṣībakum from them min'hum any harm maʿarratun without bighayri knowledge ʿil'min That Allah may admit liyud'khila That Allah may admit l-lahu to fī His Mercy raḥmatihi whom man He wills yashāu If law they had been apart tazayyalū surely, We would have punished laʿadhabnā those who alladhīna disbelieved kafarū among them min'hum (with) a punishment ʿadhāban painful alīman
They are the ones who disbelieved and obstructed you from al-Masjid al-Ḥarām while the offering1 was prevented from reaching its place of sacrifice. And if not for believing men and believing women whom you did not know - that you might trample [i.e., kill] them and there would befall you because of them dishonor without [your] knowledge - [you would have been permitted to enter Makkah]. [This was so] that Allāh might admit to His mercy whom He willed. If they had been apart [from them], We would have punished those who disbelieved among them with painful punishment
إِذْ When idh had put jaʿala those who alladhīna disbelieved kafarū in fī their hearts qulūbihimu disdain l-ḥamiyata (the) disdain ḥamiyyata (of the time of) ignorance l-jāhiliyati Then Allah sent down fa-anzala Then Allah sent down l-lahu His tranquility sakīnatahu upon ʿalā His Messenger rasūlihi and upon waʿalā the believers l-mu'minīna and made them adhere wa-alzamahum (to the) word kalimata (of) righteousness l-taqwā and they were wakānū more deserving aḥaqqa of it bihā and worthy of it wa-ahlahā And is wakāna Allah l-lahu of every bikulli thing shayin All-Knower ʿalīman
When those who disbelieved had put into their hearts chauvinism - the chauvinism of the time of ignorance. But Allāh sent down His tranquility upon His Messenger and upon the believers and imposed upon them the word of righteousness, and they were more deserving of it and worthy of it. And ever is Allāh, of all things, Knowing.
لَّقَدْ Certainly laqad Allah has fulfilled ṣadaqa Allah has fulfilled l-lahu His Messenger's rasūlahu vision l-ru'yā in truth bil-ḥaqi Surely, you will enter latadkhulunna Al-Masjid Al-Haraam l-masjida Al-Masjid Al-Haraam l-ḥarāma if in Allah wills shāa Allah wills l-lahu secure āminīna having shaved muḥalliqīna your heads ruūsakum and shortened wamuqaṣṣirīna not lā fearing takhāfūna But He knew faʿalima what mā not lam you knew taʿlamū and He made fajaʿala besides min besides dūni that dhālika a victory fatḥan near qarīban
Certainly has Allāh showed to His Messenger the vision [i.e., dream] in truth. You will surely enter al-Masjid al-Ḥarām, if Allāh wills, in safety, with your heads shaved and [hair] shortened,1 not fearing [anyone]. He knew what you did not know and has arranged before that a conquest near [at hand].
هُوَ He huwa (is) the One Who alladhī (has) sent arsala His Messenger rasūlahu with guidance bil-hudā and (the) religion wadīni the true l-ḥaqi that He (may) make it prevail liyuẓ'hirahu over ʿalā the religions l-dīni all kullihi And sufficient is wakafā Allah bil-lahi (as) a Witness shahīdan
It is He who sent His Messenger with guidance and the religion of truth to manifest it over all religion. And sufficient is Allāh as Witness.
مُّحَمَّدٌۭ Muhammad muḥammadun (is the) Messenger rasūlu of Allah l-lahi and those who wa-alladhīna (are) with him maʿahu (are) firm ashiddāu against ʿalā the disbelievers l-kufāri and merciful ruḥamāu among themselves baynahum You see them tarāhum bowing rukkaʿan and prostrating sujjadan seeking yabtaghūna Bounty faḍlan from Allah mina from Allah l-lahi and pleasure wariḍ'wānan Their mark sīmāhum (is) on fī their faces wujūhihim from min (the) trace athari (of) the prostration l-sujūdi That dhālika (is) their similitude mathaluhum in fī the Taurah l-tawrāti And their similitude wamathaluhum in fī the Injeel l-injīli (is) like a seed kazarʿin (which) sends forth akhraja its shoot shaṭahu then strengthens it faāzarahu then it becomes thick fa-is'taghlaẓa and it stands fa-is'tawā upon ʿalā its stem sūqihi delighting yuʿ'jibu the sowers l-zurāʿa that He (may) enrage liyaghīẓa by them bihimu the disbelievers l-kufāra Allah has promised waʿada Allah has promised l-lahu those who alladhīna believe āmanū and do waʿamilū righteous deeds l-ṣāliḥāti among them min'hum forgiveness maghfiratan and a reward wa-ajran great ʿaẓīman
Muḥammad is the Messenger of Allāh; and those with him are forceful against the disbelievers, merciful among themselves. You see them bowing and prostrating [in prayer], seeking bounty from Allāh and [His] pleasure. Their sign is in their faces from the effect of prostration [i.e., prayer]. That is their description in the Torah. And their description in the Gospel is as a plant which produces its offshoots and strengthens them so they grow firm and stand upon their stalks, delighting the sowers - so that He [i.e., Allāh] may enrage by them1 the disbelievers. Allāh has promised those who believe and do righteous deeds among them forgiveness and a great reward.
