ق

قٓ ۚ

Qaf

qaf

وَٱلْقُرْءَانِ

By the Quran

wal-qur'āni

ٱلْمَجِيدِ

the Glorious

l-majīdi

١

Qāf.1 By the honored Qur’ān...2

— Saheeh International

بَلْ

Nay

bal

عَجِبُوٓا۟

they wonder

ʿajibū

أَن

that

an

جَآءَهُم

has come to them

jāahum

مُّنذِرٌۭ

a warner

mundhirun

مِّنْهُمْ

from them

min'hum

فَقَالَ

So say

faqāla

ٱلْكَـٰفِرُونَ

the disbelievers

l-kāfirūna

هَـٰذَا

This

hādhā

شَىْءٌ

(is) a thing

shayon

عَجِيبٌ

amazing

ʿajībun

٢

But they wonder that there has come to them a warner from among themselves, and the disbelievers say, "This is an amazing thing.

— Saheeh International

أَءِذَا

What! When

a-idhā

مِتْنَا

we die

mit'nā

وَكُنَّا

and have become

wakunnā

تُرَابًۭا ۖ

dust

turāban

ذَٰلِكَ

That

dhālika

رَجْعٌۢ

(is) a return

rajʿun

بَعِيدٌۭ

far

baʿīdun

٣

When we have died and have become dust, [we will return to life]? That is a distant [i.e., unlikely] return."

— Saheeh International

قَدْ

Certainly

qad

عَلِمْنَا

We know

ʿalim'nā

مَا

what

تَنقُصُ

diminishes

tanquṣu

ٱلْأَرْضُ

the earth

l-arḍu

مِنْهُمْ ۖ

of them

min'hum

وَعِندَنَا

and with Us

waʿindanā

كِتَـٰبٌ

(is) a Book

kitābun

حَفِيظٌۢ

guarded

ḥafīẓun

٤

We know what the earth diminishes [i.e., consumes] of them, and with Us is a retaining record.

— Saheeh International

بَلْ

Nay

bal

كَذَّبُوا۟

they denied

kadhabū

بِٱلْحَقِّ

the truth

bil-ḥaqi

لَمَّا

when

lammā

جَآءَهُمْ

it came (to) them

jāahum

فَهُمْ

so they

fahum

فِىٓ

(are) in

أَمْرٍۢ

a state

amrin

مَّرِيجٍ

confused

marījin

٥

But they denied the truth when it came to them, so they are in a confused condition.

— Saheeh International

أَفَلَمْ

Then do not

afalam

يَنظُرُوٓا۟

they look

yanẓurū

إِلَى

at

ilā

ٱلسَّمَآءِ

the sky

l-samāi

فَوْقَهُمْ

above them

fawqahum

كَيْفَ

how

kayfa

بَنَيْنَـٰهَا

We structured it

banaynāhā

وَزَيَّنَّـٰهَا

and adorned it

wazayyannāhā

وَمَا

and not

wamā

لَهَا

for it

lahā

مِن

any

min

فُرُوجٍۢ

rifts

furūjin

٦

Have they not looked at the heaven above them - how We structured it and adorned it and [how] it has no rifts?

— Saheeh International

وَٱلْأَرْضَ

And the earth

wal-arḍa

مَدَدْنَـٰهَا

We have spread it out

madadnāhā

وَأَلْقَيْنَا

and cast

wa-alqaynā

فِيهَا

therein

fīhā

رَوَٰسِىَ

firmly set mountains

rawāsiya

وَأَنۢبَتْنَا

and We made to grow

wa-anbatnā

فِيهَا

therein

fīhā

مِن

of

min

كُلِّ

every

kulli

زَوْجٍۭ

kind

zawjin

بَهِيجٍۢ

beautiful

bahījin

٧

And the earth - We spread it out and cast therein firmly set mountains and made grow therein [something] of every beautiful kind,

— Saheeh International

تَبْصِرَةًۭ

Giving insight

tabṣiratan

وَذِكْرَىٰ

and a reminder

wadhik'rā

لِكُلِّ

for every

likulli

عَبْدٍۢ

slave

ʿabdin

مُّنِيبٍۢ

who turns

munībin

٨

Giving insight and a reminder for every servant who turns [to Allāh].

— Saheeh International

وَنَزَّلْنَا

And We have sent down

wanazzalnā

مِنَ

from

mina

ٱلسَّمَآءِ

the sky

l-samāi

مَآءًۭ

water

māan

مُّبَـٰرَكًۭا

blessed

mubārakan

فَأَنۢبَتْنَا

then We made to grow

fa-anbatnā

بِهِۦ

thereby

bihi

جَنَّـٰتٍۢ

gardens

jannātin

وَحَبَّ

and grain

waḥabba

ٱلْحَصِيدِ

(for) the harvest

l-ḥaṣīdi

٩

And We have sent down blessed rain from the sky and made grow thereby gardens and grain from the harvest

— Saheeh International

وَٱلنَّخْلَ

And the palms trees

wal-nakhla

بَاسِقَـٰتٍۢ

tall

bāsiqātin

لَّهَا

for it

lahā

طَلْعٌۭ

(are) layers

ṭalʿun

نَّضِيدٌۭ

arranged

naḍīdun

١٠

And lofty palm trees having fruit arranged in layers -

— Saheeh International

رِّزْقًۭا

A provision

riz'qan

لِّلْعِبَادِ ۖ

for the slaves

lil'ʿibādi

وَأَحْيَيْنَا

and We give life

wa-aḥyaynā

بِهِۦ

therewith

bihi

بَلْدَةًۭ

(to) a land

baldatan

مَّيْتًۭا ۚ

dead

maytan

كَذَٰلِكَ

Thus

kadhālika

ٱلْخُرُوجُ

(will be) the coming forth

l-khurūju

١١

As provision for the servants, and We have given life thereby to a dead land. Thus is the emergence [i.e., resurrection].

— Saheeh International

كَذَّبَتْ

Denied

kadhabat

قَبْلَهُمْ

before them

qablahum

قَوْمُ

(the) people

qawmu

نُوحٍۢ

(of) Nuh

nūḥin

وَأَصْحَـٰبُ

and (the) companions

wa-aṣḥābu

ٱلرَّسِّ

(of) Ar-Raas

l-rasi

وَثَمُودُ

and Thamud

wathamūdu

١٢

The people of Noah denied before them,1 and the companions of the well2 and Thamūd

— Saheeh International

وَعَادٌۭ

And Aad

waʿādun

وَفِرْعَوْنُ

and Firaun

wafir'ʿawnu

وَإِخْوَٰنُ

and (the) brothers

wa-ikh'wānu

لُوطٍۢ

(of) Lut

lūṭin

١٣

And ʿAad and Pharaoh and the brothers [i.e., people] of Lot

— Saheeh International

وَأَصْحَـٰبُ

And (the) companions

wa-aṣḥābu

ٱلْأَيْكَةِ

(of) the wood

l-aykati

وَقَوْمُ

and (the) people

waqawmu

تُبَّعٍۢ ۚ

(of) Tubba

tubbaʿin

كُلٌّۭ

All

kullun

كَذَّبَ

denied

kadhaba

ٱلرُّسُلَ

the Messengers

l-rusula

فَحَقَّ

so was fulfilled

faḥaqqa

وَعِيدِ

My Threat

waʿīdi

١٤

And the companions of the thicket and the people of Tubbaʿ. All denied the messengers, so My threat was justly fulfilled.

— Saheeh International

أَفَعَيِينَا

Were We then tired

afaʿayīnā

بِٱلْخَلْقِ

with the creation

bil-khalqi

ٱلْأَوَّلِ ۚ

the first

l-awali

بَلْ

Nay

bal

هُمْ

they

hum

فِى

(are) in

لَبْسٍۢ

doubt

labsin

مِّنْ

about

min

خَلْقٍۢ

a creation

khalqin

جَدِيدٍۢ

new

jadīdin

١٥

Did We fail in the first creation? But they are in confusion over a new creation.

— Saheeh International

وَلَقَدْ

And certainly

walaqad

خَلَقْنَا

We created

khalaqnā

ٱلْإِنسَـٰنَ

man

l-insāna

وَنَعْلَمُ

and We know

wanaʿlamu

مَا

what

تُوَسْوِسُ

whispers

tuwaswisu

بِهِۦ

to him

bihi

نَفْسُهُۥ ۖ

his soul

nafsuhu

وَنَحْنُ

and We

wanaḥnu

أَقْرَبُ

(are) nearer

aqrabu

إِلَيْهِ

to him

ilayhi

مِنْ

than

min

حَبْلِ

(his) jugular vein

ḥabli

ٱلْوَرِيدِ

(his) jugular vein

l-warīdi

١٦

And We have already created man and know what his soul whispers to him, and We are closer1 to him than [his] jugular vein.

— Saheeh International

إِذْ

When

idh

يَتَلَقَّى

receive

yatalaqqā

ٱلْمُتَلَقِّيَانِ

the two receivers

l-mutalaqiyāni

عَنِ

on

ʿani

ٱلْيَمِينِ

the right

l-yamīni

وَعَنِ

and on

waʿani

ٱلشِّمَالِ

the left

l-shimāli

قَعِيدٌۭ

seated

qaʿīdun

١٧

When the two receivers [i.e., recording angels] receive,1 seated on the right and on the left.

— Saheeh International

مَّا

Not

يَلْفِظُ

he utters

yalfiẓu

مِن

any

min

قَوْلٍ

word

qawlin

إِلَّا

but

illā

لَدَيْهِ

with him

ladayhi

رَقِيبٌ

(is) an observer

raqībun

عَتِيدٌۭ

ready

ʿatīdun

١٨

He [i.e., man] utters no word except that with him is an observer prepared [to record].

— Saheeh International

وَجَآءَتْ

And will come

wajāat

سَكْرَةُ

(the) stupor

sakratu

ٱلْمَوْتِ

(of) death

l-mawti

بِٱلْحَقِّ ۖ

in truth

bil-ḥaqi

ذَٰلِكَ

That

dhālika

مَا

(is) what

كُنتَ

you were

kunta

مِنْهُ

[from it]

min'hu

تَحِيدُ

avoiding

taḥīdu

١٩

And the intoxication of death will bring the truth; that is what you were trying to avoid.

— Saheeh International

وَنُفِخَ

And will be blown

wanufikha

فِى

[in]

ٱلصُّورِ ۚ

the trumpet

l-ṣūri

ذَٰلِكَ

That

dhālika

يَوْمُ

(is the) Day

yawmu

ٱلْوَعِيدِ

(of) the Warning

l-waʿīdi

٢٠

And the Horn will be blown. That is the Day of [carrying out] the threat.

— Saheeh International

وَجَآءَتْ

And will come

wajāat

كُلُّ

every

kullu

نَفْسٍۢ

soul

nafsin

مَّعَهَا

with it

maʿahā

سَآئِقٌۭ

a driver

sāiqun

وَشَهِيدٌۭ

and a witness

washahīdun

٢١

And every soul will come, with it a driver and a witness.1

— Saheeh International

لَّقَدْ

Certainly

laqad

كُنتَ

you were

kunta

فِى

in

غَفْلَةٍۢ

heedlessness

ghaflatin

مِّنْ

of

min

هَـٰذَا

this

hādhā

فَكَشَفْنَا

So We have removed

fakashafnā

عَنكَ

from you

ʿanka

غِطَآءَكَ

your cover

ghiṭāaka

فَبَصَرُكَ

so your sight

fabaṣaruka

ٱلْيَوْمَ

today

l-yawma

حَدِيدٌۭ

(is) sharp

ḥadīdun

٢٢

[It will be said], "You were certainly in unmindfulness of this, and We have removed from you your cover,1 so your sight, this Day, is sharp."

— Saheeh International

وَقَالَ

And (will) say

waqāla

قَرِينُهُۥ

his companion

qarīnuhu

هَـٰذَا

This

hādhā

مَا

(is) what

لَدَىَّ

(is) with me

ladayya

عَتِيدٌ

ready

ʿatīdun

٢٣

And his companion, [the angel], will say, "This [record] is what is with me, prepared."

— Saheeh International

أَلْقِيَا

Throw

alqiyā

فِى

in (to)

جَهَنَّمَ

Hell

jahannama

كُلَّ

every

kulla

كَفَّارٍ

disbeliever

kaffārin

عَنِيدٍۢ

stubborn

ʿanīdin

٢٤

[Allāh will say], "Throw into Hell every obstinate disbeliever,

— Saheeh International

مَّنَّاعٍۢ

Forbidder

mannāʿin

لِّلْخَيْرِ

of good

lil'khayri

مُعْتَدٍۢ

transgressor

muʿ'tadin

مُّرِيبٍ

doubter

murībin

٢٥

Preventer of good, aggressor, and doubter,

— Saheeh International

ٱلَّذِى

Who

alladhī

جَعَلَ

made

jaʿala

مَعَ

with

maʿa

ٱللَّهِ

Allah

l-lahi

إِلَـٰهًا

a god

ilāhan

ءَاخَرَ

another

ākhara

فَأَلْقِيَاهُ

so throw him

fa-alqiyāhu

فِى

in(to)

ٱلْعَذَابِ

the punishment

l-ʿadhābi

ٱلشَّدِيدِ

the severe

l-shadīdi

٢٦

Who made [as equal] with Allāh another deity; then throw him into the severe punishment."

— Saheeh International

۞ قَالَ

Will say

qāla

قَرِينُهُۥ

his companion

qarīnuhu

رَبَّنَا

Our Lord

rabbanā

مَآ

not

أَطْغَيْتُهُۥ

I made him transgress

aṭghaytuhu

وَلَـٰكِن

but

walākin

كَانَ

he was

kāna

فِى

in

ضَلَـٰلٍۭ

error

ḍalālin

بَعِيدٍۢ

far

baʿīdin

٢٧

His [devil] companion will say, "Our Lord, I did not make him transgress, but he [himself] was in extreme error."

— Saheeh International

قَالَ

He will say

qāla

لَا

(Do) not

تَخْتَصِمُوا۟

dispute

takhtaṣimū

لَدَىَّ

(in) My presence

ladayya

وَقَدْ

and indeed

waqad

قَدَّمْتُ

I sent forth

qaddamtu

إِلَيْكُم

to you

ilaykum

بِٱلْوَعِيدِ

the Warning

bil-waʿīdi

٢٨

[Allāh] will say, "Do not dispute before Me, while I had already presented to you the threat [i.e., warning].

— Saheeh International

مَا

Not

يُبَدَّلُ

will be changed

yubaddalu

ٱلْقَوْلُ

the word

l-qawlu

لَدَىَّ

with Me

ladayya

وَمَآ

and not

wamā

أَنَا۠

I Am

anā

بِظَلَّـٰمٍۢ

unjust

biẓallāmin

لِّلْعَبِيدِ

to My slaves

lil'ʿabīdi

٢٩

The word [i.e., decree] will not be changed with Me, and never will I be unjust to the servants."

— Saheeh International

يَوْمَ

(The) Day

yawma

نَقُولُ

We will say

naqūlu

لِجَهَنَّمَ

to Hell

lijahannama

هَلِ

Are

hali

ٱمْتَلَأْتِ

you filled

im'talati

وَتَقُولُ

And it will say

wataqūlu

هَلْ

Are

hal

مِن

(there) any

min

مَّزِيدٍۢ

more

mazīdin

٣٠

On the Day We will say to Hell, "Have you been filled?" and it will say, "Are there some more,"

— Saheeh International

وَأُزْلِفَتِ

And will be brought near

wa-uz'lifati

ٱلْجَنَّةُ

the Paradise

l-janatu

لِلْمُتَّقِينَ

to the righteous

lil'muttaqīna

غَيْرَ

not

ghayra

بَعِيدٍ

far

baʿīdin

٣١

And Paradise will be brought near to the righteous, not far,

— Saheeh International

هَـٰذَا

This

hādhā

مَا

(is) what

تُوعَدُونَ

you were promised

tūʿadūna

لِكُلِّ

for everyone

likulli

أَوَّابٍ

who turns

awwābin

حَفِيظٍۢ

(and) who keeps

ḥafīẓin

٣٢

[It will be said], "This is what you were promised - for every returner [to Allāh] and keeper [of His covenant].

— Saheeh International

مَّنْ

Who

man

خَشِىَ

feared

khashiya

ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنَ

the Most Gracious

l-raḥmāna

بِٱلْغَيْبِ

in the unseen

bil-ghaybi

وَجَآءَ

and came

wajāa

بِقَلْبٍۢ

with a heart

biqalbin

مُّنِيبٍ

returning

munībin

٣٣

Who feared the Most Merciful in the unseen and came with a heart returning [in repentance].

— Saheeh International

ٱدْخُلُوهَا

Enter it

ud'khulūhā

بِسَلَـٰمٍۢ ۖ

in peace

bisalāmin

ذَٰلِكَ

That

dhālika

يَوْمُ

(is) a Day

yawmu

ٱلْخُلُودِ

(of) Eternity

l-khulūdi

٣٤

Enter it in peace. This is the Day of Eternity."

— Saheeh International

لَهُم

For them

lahum

مَّا

whatever

يَشَآءُونَ

they wish

yashāūna

فِيهَا

therein

fīhā

وَلَدَيْنَا

and with Us

waladaynā

مَزِيدٌۭ

(is) more

mazīdun

٣٥

They will have whatever they wish therein, and with Us is more.

— Saheeh International

وَكَمْ

And how many

wakam

أَهْلَكْنَا

We destroyed

ahlaknā

قَبْلَهُم

before them

qablahum

مِّن

of

min

قَرْنٍ

a generation

qarnin

هُمْ

they

hum

أَشَدُّ

(were) stronger

ashaddu

مِنْهُم

than them

min'hum

بَطْشًۭا

(in) power

baṭshan

فَنَقَّبُوا۟

so they explored

fanaqqabū

فِى

throughout

ٱلْبِلَـٰدِ

the lands

l-bilādi

هَلْ

Is (there)

hal

مِن

any

min

مَّحِيصٍ

place of escape

maḥīṣin

٣٦

And how many a generation before them did We destroy who were greater than them in [striking] power and had explored throughout the lands. Is there any place of escape?

— Saheeh International

إِنَّ

Indeed

inna

فِى

in

ذَٰلِكَ

that

dhālika

لَذِكْرَىٰ

surely, is a reminder

ladhik'rā

لِمَن

for (one) who

liman

كَانَ

is

kāna

لَهُۥ

for him

lahu

قَلْبٌ

a heart

qalbun

أَوْ

or

aw

أَلْقَى

(who) gives ear

alqā

ٱلسَّمْعَ

(who) gives ear

l-samʿa

وَهُوَ

while he

wahuwa

شَهِيدٌۭ

(is) a witness

shahīdun

٣٧

Indeed in that is a reminder for whoever has a heart or who listens while he is present [in mind].

— Saheeh International

وَلَقَدْ

And certainly

walaqad

خَلَقْنَا

We created

khalaqnā

ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ

the heavens

l-samāwāti

وَٱلْأَرْضَ

and the earth

wal-arḍa

وَمَا

and whatever

wamā

بَيْنَهُمَا

(is) between both of them

baynahumā

فِى

in

سِتَّةِ

six

sittati

أَيَّامٍۢ

periods

ayyāmin

وَمَا

and (did) not

wamā

مَسَّنَا

touch Us

massanā

مِن

any

min

لُّغُوبٍۢ

fatigue

lughūbin

٣٨

And We did certainly create the heavens and earth and what is between them in six days, and there touched Us no weariness.

— Saheeh International

فَٱصْبِرْ

So be patient

fa-iṣ'bir

عَلَىٰ

over

ʿalā

مَا

what

يَقُولُونَ

they say

yaqūlūna

وَسَبِّحْ

and glorify

wasabbiḥ

بِحَمْدِ

(the) praise

biḥamdi

رَبِّكَ

(of) your Lord

rabbika

قَبْلَ

before

qabla

طُلُوعِ

(the) rising

ṭulūʿi

ٱلشَّمْسِ

(of) the sun

l-shamsi

وَقَبْلَ

and before

waqabla

ٱلْغُرُوبِ

the setting

l-ghurūbi

٣٩

So be patient, [O Muḥammad], over what they say and exalt [Allāh] with praise of your Lord before the rising of the sun and before its setting,

— Saheeh International

وَمِنَ

And of

wamina

ٱلَّيْلِ

the night

al-layli

فَسَبِّحْهُ

glorify Him

fasabbiḥ'hu

وَأَدْبَـٰرَ

and after

wa-adbāra

ٱلسُّجُودِ

the prostration

l-sujūdi

٤٠

And [in part] of the night exalt Him and after prostration [i.e., prayer].

— Saheeh International

وَٱسْتَمِعْ

And listen

wa-is'tamiʿ

يَوْمَ

(The) Day

yawma

يُنَادِ

will call

yunādi

ٱلْمُنَادِ

the caller

l-munādi

مِن

from

min

مَّكَانٍۢ

a place

makānin

قَرِيبٍۢ

near

qarībin

٤١

And listen on the Day when the Caller1 will call out from a place that is near -

— Saheeh International

يَوْمَ

(The) Day

yawma

يَسْمَعُونَ

they will hear

yasmaʿūna

ٱلصَّيْحَةَ

the Blast

l-ṣayḥata

بِٱلْحَقِّ ۚ

in truth

bil-ḥaqi

ذَٰلِكَ

That

dhālika

يَوْمُ

(is the) Day

yawmu

ٱلْخُرُوجِ

(of) coming forth

l-khurūji

٤٢

The Day they will hear the blast [of the Horn] in truth. That is the Day of Emergence [from the graves].

— Saheeh International

إِنَّا

Indeed, We

innā

نَحْنُ

[We]

naḥnu

نُحْىِۦ

[We] give life

nuḥ'yī

وَنُمِيتُ

and [We] cause death

wanumītu

وَإِلَيْنَا

and to Us

wa-ilaynā

ٱلْمَصِيرُ

(is) the final return

l-maṣīru

٤٣

Indeed, it is We who give life and cause death, and to Us is the destination

— Saheeh International

يَوْمَ

(The) Day

yawma

تَشَقَّقُ

will split

tashaqqaqu

ٱلْأَرْضُ

the earth

l-arḍu

عَنْهُمْ

from them

ʿanhum

سِرَاعًۭا ۚ

hurrying

sirāʿan

ذَٰلِكَ

That

dhālika

حَشْرٌ

(is) a gathering

ḥashrun

عَلَيْنَا

for Us

ʿalaynā

يَسِيرٌۭ

easy

yasīrun

٤٤

On the Day the earth breaks away from them [and they emerge] rapidly; that is a gathering easy for Us.

— Saheeh International

نَّحْنُ

We

naḥnu

أَعْلَمُ

know best

aʿlamu

بِمَا

[of] what

bimā

يَقُولُونَ ۖ

they say

yaqūlūna

وَمَآ

and not

wamā

أَنتَ

(are) you

anta

عَلَيْهِم

over them

ʿalayhim

بِجَبَّارٍۢ ۖ

the one to compel

bijabbārin

فَذَكِّرْ

But remind

fadhakkir

بِٱلْقُرْءَانِ

with the Quran

bil-qur'āni

مَن

whoever

man

يَخَافُ

fears

yakhāfu

وَعِيدِ

My threat

waʿīdi

٤٥

We are most knowing of what they say, and you are not over them a tyrant.1 But remind by the Qur’ān whoever fears My threat.
