سَبَّحَ Glorifies sabbaḥa [to] Allah lillahi whatever mā (is) in fī the heavens l-samāwāti and whatever wamā (is) in fī the earth l-arḍi And He wahuwa (is) the All-Mighty l-ʿazīzu the All-Wise l-ḥakīmu
Whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth exalts Allāh,1 and He is the Exalted in Might, the Wise.
هُوَ He huwa (is) the One Who alladhī expelled akhraja those who alladhīna disbelieved kafarū from min (the) People ahli (of) the Scripture l-kitābi from min their homes diyārihim at (the) first li-awwali gathering l-ḥashri Not mā you think ẓanantum that an they would leave yakhrujū and they thought waẓannū that [they] annahum would defend them māniʿatuhum their fortresses ḥuṣūnuhum against mina Allah l-lahi But came to them fa-atāhumu Allah l-lahu from min where ḥaythu not lam they expected yaḥtasibū and He cast waqadhafa into fī their hearts qulūbihimu [the] terror l-ruʿ'ba they destroyed yukh'ribūna their houses buyūtahum with their hands bi-aydīhim and the hands wa-aydī (of) the believers l-mu'minīna So take a lesson fa-iʿ'tabirū O those endowed yāulī (with) insight l-abṣāri
It is He who expelled the ones who disbelieved among the People of the Scripture1 from their homes at the first gathering.2 You did not think they would leave, and they thought that their fortresses would protect them from Allāh; but [the decree of] Allāh came upon them from where they had not expected, and He cast terror into their hearts [so] they destroyed their houses by their [own] hands and the hands of the believers. So take warning, O people of vision.
وَلَوْلَآ And if not walawlā [that] an (had) decreed kataba Allah l-lahu for them ʿalayhimu the exile l-jalāa certainly He (would) have punished them laʿadhabahum in fī the world l-dun'yā and for them walahum in fī the Hereafter l-ākhirati (is) a punishment ʿadhābu (of) the Fire l-nāri
And if not that Allāh had decreed for them evacuation, He would have punished them in [this] world, and for them in the Hereafter is the punishment of the Fire.
ذَٰلِكَ That dhālika (is) because [they] bi-annahum they opposed shāqqū Allah l-laha and His Messenger warasūlahu And whoever waman opposes yushāqqi Allah l-laha then indeed fa-inna Allah l-laha (is) severe shadīdu (in) penalty l-ʿiqābi
That is because they opposed Allāh and His Messenger. And whoever opposes Allāh - then indeed, Allāh is severe in penalty.
مَا Whatever mā you cut down qaṭaʿtum of min (the) palm-trees līnatin or aw you left them taraktumūhā standing qāimatan on ʿalā their roots uṣūlihā it (was) by the permission fabi-idh'ni (of) Allah l-lahi and that He may disgrace waliyukh'ziya the defiantly disobedient l-fāsiqīna
Whatever you have cut down of [their] palm trees or left standing on their trunks - it was by permission of Allāh and so He would disgrace the defiantly disobedient.
وَمَآ And what wamā (was) restored afāa (by) Allah l-lahu to ʿalā His Messenger rasūlihi from them min'hum then not famā you made expedition awjaftum for it ʿalayhi of min horses khaylin and not walā camels rikābin but walākinna Allah l-laha gives power yusalliṭu (to) His Messengers rusulahu over ʿalā whom man He wills yashāu And Allah wal-lahu (is) on ʿalā every kulli thing shayin All-Powerful qadīrun
And what Allāh restored [of property] to His Messenger from them - you did not spur for it [in an expedition] any horses or camels,1 but Allāh gives His messengers power over whom He wills, and Allāh is over all things competent.
مَّآ What mā (was) restored afāa (by) Allah l-lahu to ʿalā His Messenger rasūlihi from min (the) people ahli (of) the towns l-qurā (it is) for Allah falillahi and His Messenger walilrrasūli and for those walidhī (of) the kindred l-qur'bā and the orphans wal-yatāmā and the needy wal-masākīni and wa-ib'ni the wayfarer l-sabīli that kay not lā it becomes yakūna a (perpetual) circulation dūlatan between bayna the rich l-aghniyāi among you minkum And whatever wamā gives you ātākumu the Messenger l-rasūlu take it fakhudhūhu and whatever wamā he forbids you nahākum from it ʿanhu refrain fa-intahū And fear wa-ittaqū Allah l-laha Indeed inna Allah l-laha (is) severe shadīdu (in) penalty l-ʿiqābi
And what Allāh restored to His Messenger from the people of the towns - it is for Allāh and for the Messenger and for [his] near relatives1 and orphans and the needy and the [stranded] traveler2 - so that it will not be a perpetual distribution among the rich from among you. And whatever the Messenger has given you - take; and what he has forbidden you - refrain from. And fear Allāh; indeed, Allāh is severe in penalty.
لِلْفُقَرَآءِ For the poor lil'fuqarāi emigrants l-muhājirīna those who alladhīna were expelled ukh'rijū from min their homes diyārihim and their properties wa-amwālihim seeking yabtaghūna bounty faḍlan from mina Allah l-lahi and pleasure wariḍ'wānan and helping wayanṣurūna Allah l-laha and His Messenger warasūlahu Those ulāika they humu (are) the truthful l-ṣādiqūna
For the poor emigrants who were expelled from their homes and their properties, seeking bounty from Allāh and [His] approval and supporting [the cause of] Allāh and His Messenger, [there is also a share]. Those are the truthful.
وَٱلَّذِينَ And those who wa-alladhīna settled tabawwaū (in) the home l-dāra and (accepted) faith wal-īmāna from min before them qablihim love yuḥibbūna (those) who man emigrated hājara to them ilayhim and not walā they find yajidūna in fī their breasts ṣudūrihim any want ḥājatan of what mimmā they were given ūtū but prefer wayu'thirūna over ʿalā themselves anfusihim even though walaw was kāna with them bihim poverty khaṣāṣatun And whoever waman is saved yūqa (from) stinginess shuḥḥa (of) his soul nafsihi then those fa-ulāika [they] humu (are) the successful ones l-muf'liḥūna
And [also for] those who were settled in the Home [i.e.,al-Madīnah] and [adopted] the faith before them.1 They love those who emigrated to them and find not any want in their breasts of what they [i.e., the emigrants] were given but give [them] preference over themselves, even though they are in privation. And whoever is protected from the stinginess of his soul - it is those who will be the successful.
وَٱلَّذِينَ And those who wa-alladhīna came jāū from min after them baʿdihim they say yaqūlūna Our Lord rabbanā forgive igh'fir us lanā and our brothers wali-ikh'wāninā who alladhīna preceded us sabaqūnā in faith bil-īmāni and (do) not walā put tajʿal in fī our hearts qulūbinā any rancor ghillan towards those who lilladhīna believed āmanū Our Lord rabbanā indeed You innaka (are) Full of Kindness raūfun Most Merciful raḥīmun
And [there is a share for] those who come after them, saying, "Our Lord, forgive us and our brothers who preceded us in faith and put not in our hearts [any] resentment toward those who have believed. Our Lord, indeed You are Kind and Merciful."
۞ أَلَمْ Do not alam you see tara [to] ilā those who alladhīna (were) hypocrites nāfaqū saying yaqūlūna to their brothers li-ikh'wānihimu those who alladhīna disbelieved kafarū among min the People ahli (of) the Scripture l-kitābi If la-in you are expelled ukh'rij'tum surely we will leave lanakhrujanna with you maʿakum and not walā we will obey nuṭīʿu concerning you fīkum anyone aḥadan ever abadan and if wa-in you are fought qūtil'tum certainly we will help you lananṣurannakum And Allah wal-lahu bears witness yashhadu that they innahum (are) surely liars lakādhibūna
Have you not considered those who practice hypocrisy, saying to their brothers [i.e., associates] who have disbelieved among the People of the Scripture, "If you are expelled, we will surely leave with you, and we will not obey, in regard to you, anyone - ever; and if you are fought, we will surely aid you." But Allāh testifies that they are liars.
لَئِنْ If la-in they are expelled ukh'rijū not lā they will leave yakhrujūna with them maʿahum and if wala-in they are fought qūtilū not lā they will help them yanṣurūnahum And if wala-in they help them naṣarūhum certainly they will turn layuwallunna (their) backs l-adbāra then thumma not lā they will be helped yunṣarūna
If they are expelled, they will not leave with them, and if they are fought, they will not aid them. And [even] if they should aid them, they will surely turn their backs; then [thereafter] they will not be aided.
لَأَنتُمْ Certainly you la-antum (are) more intense ashaddu (in) fear rahbatan in fī their breasts ṣudūrihim than mina Allah l-lahi That dhālika (is) because they bi-annahum (are) a people qawmun (who do) not lā understand yafqahūna
You [believers] are more fearful within their breasts than Allāh. That is because they are a people who do not understand.
لَا Not lā will they fight you yuqātilūnakum all jamīʿan except illā in fī towns quran fortified muḥaṣṣanatin or aw from min behind warāi walls judurin Their violence basuhum among themselves baynahum (is) severe shadīdun You think they taḥsabuhum (are) united jamīʿan but their hearts waqulūbuhum (are) divided shattā That dhālika (is) because they bi-annahum (are) a people qawmun not lā they reason yaʿqilūna
They will not fight you all except within fortified cities or from behind walls. Their violence [i.e., enmity] among themselves is severe. You think they are together, but their hearts are diverse. That is because they are a people who do not reason.
كَمَثَلِ Like (the) example kamathali (of) those alladhīna from min before them qablihim shortly qarīban they tasted dhāqū (the) evil result wabāla (of) their affair amrihim and for them walahum (is) a punishment ʿadhābun painful alīmun
[Theirs is] like the example of those shortly before them: they tasted the bad consequence of their affair, and they will have a painful punishment.
كَمَثَلِ Like (the) example kamathali (of) the Shaitaan l-shayṭāni when idh he says qāla to man lil'insāni Disbelieve uk'fur But when falammā he disbelieves kafara he says qāla Indeed, I am innī disassociated barīon from you minka Indeed, [I] innī I fear akhāfu Allah l-laha (the) Lord rabba (of) the worlds l-ʿālamīna
[The hypocrites are] like the example of Satan when he says to man, "Disbelieve." But when he disbelieves, he says, "Indeed, I am disassociated from you. Indeed, I fear Allāh, Lord of the worlds."
فَكَانَ So will be fakāna (the) end of both of them ʿāqibatahumā that they annahumā (will be) in fī the Fire l-nāri abiding forever khālidayni therein fīhā And that wadhālika (is the) recompense jazāu (of) the wrongdoers l-ẓālimīna
So the outcome for both of them is that they will be in the Fire, abiding eternally therein. And that is the recompense of the wrongdoers.
يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا O yāayyuhā you (who) alladhīna believe āmanū Fear ittaqū Allah l-laha and let look waltanẓur every soul nafsun what mā it has sent forth qaddamat for tomorrow lighadin and fear wa-ittaqū Allah l-laha Indeed inna Allah l-laha (is) All-Aware khabīrun of what bimā you do taʿmalūna
O you who have believed, fear Allāh. And let every soul look to what it has put forth for tomorrow - and fear Allāh. Indeed, Allāh is Aware of what you do.
وَلَا And (do) not walā be takūnū like those who ka-alladhīna forgot nasū Allah l-laha so He made them forget fa-ansāhum themselves anfusahum Those ulāika [they] humu (are) the defiantly disobedient l-fāsiqūna
And be not like those who forgot Allāh, so He made them forget themselves. Those are the defiantly disobedient.
لَا Not lā equal yastawī (are the) companions aṣḥābu (of) the Fire l-nāri and (the) companions wa-aṣḥābu (of) Paradise l-janati (The) companions aṣḥābu (of) Paradise l-janati they humu (are) the achievers l-fāizūna
Not equal are the companions of the Fire and the companions of Paradise. The companions of Paradise - they are the attainers [of success].
لَوْ If law We (had) sent down anzalnā this hādhā Quran l-qur'āna on ʿalā a mountain jabalin surely you (would) have seen it lara-aytahu humbled khāshiʿan breaking asunder mutaṣaddiʿan from min (the) fear khashyati (of) Allah l-lahi And these watil'ka examples l-amthālu We present them naḍribuhā to the people lilnnāsi so that they may laʿallahum give thought yatafakkarūna
If We had sent down this Qur’ān upon a mountain, you would have seen it humbled and splitting from fear of Allāh. And these examples We present to the people that perhaps they will give thought.
هُوَ He huwa (is) Allah l-lahu the One Who alladhī (there is) no lā god ilāha but illā He huwa (the) All-Knower ʿālimu (of) the unseen l-ghaybi and the witnessed wal-shahādati He huwa (is) the Most Gracious l-raḥmānu the Most Merciful l-raḥīmu
He is Allāh, other than whom there is no deity, Knower of the unseen and the witnessed.1 He is the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful.
هُوَ He huwa (is) Allah l-lahu the One Who alladhī (there is) no lā god ilāha but illā He huwa the Sovereign l-maliku the Holy One l-qudūsu the Giver of Peace l-salāmu the Giver of Security l-mu'minu the Guardian l-muhayminu the All-Mighty l-ʿazīzu the Irresistible l-jabāru the Supreme l-mutakabiru Glory (be to) sub'ḥāna Allah l-lahi from what ʿammā they associate (with Him) yush'rikūna
He is Allāh, other than whom there is no deity, the Sovereign,1 the Pure,2 the Perfection,3 the Grantor of Security,4 the Overseer,5 the Exalted in Might,6 the Compeller,7 the Superior.8 Exalted is Allāh above whatever they associate with Him.
هُوَ He huwa (is) Allah l-lahu the Creator l-khāliqu the Inventor l-bāri-u the Fashioner l-muṣawiru For Him lahu (are) the names l-asmāu the beautiful l-ḥus'nā Glorifies yusabbiḥu Him lahu whatever mā (is) in fī the heavens l-samāwāti and the earth wal-arḍi And He wahuwa (is) the All-Mighty l-ʿazīzu the All-Wise l-ḥakīmu
He is Allāh, the Creator,1 the Producer,2 the Fashioner;3 to Him belong the best names.4 Whatever is in the heavens and earth is exalting Him. And He is the Exalted in Might, the Wise.5
