At-Tīn

The Fig

التين

وَٱلتِّينِ

By the fig

wal-tīni

وَٱلزَّيْتُونِ

and the olive

wal-zaytūni

١

By the fig and the olive1

— Saheeh International

وَطُورِ

And (the) Mount

waṭūri

سِينِينَ

Sinai

sīnīna

٢

And [by] Mount Sinai

— Saheeh International

وَهَـٰذَا

And this

wahādhā

ٱلْبَلَدِ

[the] city

l-baladi

ٱلْأَمِينِ

[the] secure

l-amīni

٣

And [by] this secure city [i.e., Makkah],

— Saheeh International

لَقَدْ

Indeed

laqad

خَلَقْنَا

We created

khalaqnā

ٱلْإِنسَـٰنَ

man

l-insāna

فِىٓ

in

أَحْسَنِ

(the) best

aḥsani

تَقْوِيمٍۢ

mould

taqwīmin

٤

We have certainly created man in the best of stature;1

— Saheeh International

ثُمَّ

Then

thumma

رَدَدْنَـٰهُ

We returned him

radadnāhu

أَسْفَلَ

(to the) lowest

asfala

سَـٰفِلِينَ

(of the) low

sāfilīna

٥

Then We return him to the lowest of the low,1

— Saheeh International

إِلَّا

Except

illā

ٱلَّذِينَ

those who

alladhīna

ءَامَنُوا۟

believe

āmanū

وَعَمِلُوا۟

and do

waʿamilū

ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ

righteous deeds

l-ṣāliḥāti

فَلَهُمْ

then for them

falahum

أَجْرٌ

(is a) reward

ajrun

غَيْرُ

never

ghayru

مَمْنُونٍۢ

ending

mamnūnin

٦

Except for those who believe and do righteous deeds, for they will have a reward uninterrupted.

— Saheeh International

فَمَا

Then what

famā

يُكَذِّبُكَ

causes you to deny

yukadhibuka

بَعْدُ

after (this)

baʿdu

بِٱلدِّينِ

the judgment

bil-dīni

٧

So what yet causes you to deny the Recompense?1

— Saheeh International

أَلَيْسَ

Is not

alaysa

ٱللَّهُ

Allah

l-lahu

بِأَحْكَمِ

(the) Most Just

bi-aḥkami

ٱلْحَـٰكِمِينَ

(of) the Judges

l-ḥākimīna

٨

Is not Allāh the most just of judges?

— Saheeh International

Al-`Alaq

The Clot

ٱقْرَأْ

Read

iq'ra

بِٱسْمِ

in (the) name

bi-is'mi

رَبِّكَ

(of) your Lord

rabbika

ٱلَّذِى

the One Who

alladhī

خَلَقَ

created

khalaqa

Recite in the name of your Lord who created

— Saheeh International

خَلَقَ

He created

khalaqa

ٱلْإِنسَـٰنَ

man

l-insāna

مِنْ

from

min

عَلَقٍ

a clinging substance

ʿalaqin

٢

Created man from a clinging substance.

— Saheeh International

ٱقْرَأْ

Read

iq'ra

وَرَبُّكَ

and your Lord

warabbuka

ٱلْأَكْرَمُ

(is) the Most Generous

l-akramu

٣

Recite, and your Lord is the most Generous -

— Saheeh International

ٱلَّذِى

The One Who

alladhī

عَلَّمَ

taught

ʿallama

بِٱلْقَلَمِ

by the pen

bil-qalami

٤

Who taught by the pen

— Saheeh International

عَلَّمَ

Taught

ʿallama

ٱلْإِنسَـٰنَ

man

l-insāna

مَا

what

لَمْ

not

lam

يَعْلَمْ

he knew

yaʿlam

٥

Taught man that which he knew not.

— Saheeh International

كَلَّآ

Nay

kallā

إِنَّ

Indeed

inna

ٱلْإِنسَـٰنَ

man

l-insāna

لَيَطْغَىٰٓ

surely transgresses

layaṭghā

٦

No! [But] indeed, man transgresses

— Saheeh International

أَن

That

an

رَّءَاهُ

he sees himself

raāhu

ٱسْتَغْنَىٰٓ

self-sufficient

is'taghnā

٧

Because he sees himself self-sufficient.

— Saheeh International

إِنَّ

Indeed

inna

إِلَىٰ

to

ilā

رَبِّكَ

your Lord

rabbika

ٱلرُّجْعَىٰٓ

(is) the return

l-ruj'ʿā

٨

Indeed, to your Lord is the return.

— Saheeh International

أَرَءَيْتَ

Have you seen

ara-ayta

ٱلَّذِى

the one who

alladhī

يَنْهَىٰ

forbids

yanhā

٩

Have you seen the one who forbids

— Saheeh International

عَبْدًا

A slave

ʿabdan

إِذَا

when

idhā

صَلَّىٰٓ

he prays

ṣallā

١٠

A servant when he prays?

— Saheeh International

أَرَءَيْتَ

Have you seen

ara-ayta

إِن

if

in

كَانَ

he is

kāna

عَلَى

upon

ʿalā

ٱلْهُدَىٰٓ

[the] guidance

l-hudā

١١

Have you seen if he is upon guidance

— Saheeh International

أَوْ

Or

aw

أَمَرَ

he enjoins

amara

بِٱلتَّقْوَىٰٓ

[of the] righteousness

bil-taqwā

١٢

Or enjoins righteousness?

— Saheeh International

أَرَءَيْتَ

Have you seen

ara-ayta

إِن

if

in

كَذَّبَ

he denies

kadhaba

وَتَوَلَّىٰٓ

and turns away

watawallā

١٣

Have you seen if he denies and turns away -

— Saheeh International

أَلَمْ

Does not

alam

يَعْلَم

he know

yaʿlam

بِأَنَّ

that

bi-anna

ٱللَّهَ

Allah

l-laha

يَرَىٰ

sees

yarā

١٤

Does he not know that Allāh sees?

— Saheeh International

كَلَّا

Nay

kallā

لَئِن

If

la-in

لَّمْ

not

lam

يَنتَهِ

he desists

yantahi

لَنَسْفَعًۢا

surely We will drag him

lanasfaʿan

بِٱلنَّاصِيَةِ

by the forelock

bil-nāṣiyati

١٥

No! If he does not desist, We will surely drag him by the forelock1

— Saheeh International

نَاصِيَةٍۢ

A forelock

nāṣiyatin

كَـٰذِبَةٍ

lying

kādhibatin

خَاطِئَةٍۢ

sinful

khāṭi-atin

١٦

A lying, sinning forelock.

— Saheeh International

فَلْيَدْعُ

Then let him call

falyadʿu

نَادِيَهُۥ

his associates

nādiyahu

١٧

Then let him call his associates;

— Saheeh International

سَنَدْعُ

We will call

sanadʿu

ٱلزَّبَانِيَةَ

the Angels of Hell

l-zabāniyata

١٨

We will call the angels of Hell.1

— Saheeh International

كَلَّا

Nay

kallā

لَا

(Do) not

تُطِعْهُ

obey him

tuṭiʿ'hu

وَٱسْجُدْ

But prostrate

wa-us'jud

وَٱقْتَرِب ۩

and draw near (to Allah)

wa-iq'tarib

١٩

No! Do not obey him. But prostrate and draw near [to Allāh].

— Saheeh International
