Al-Burūj
The Mansions of the Stars
﷽
البروج
وَٱلسَّمَآءِ By the sky wal-samāi containing dhāti the constellations l-burūji
By the sky containing great stars
وَشَاهِدٍۢ And (the) witness washāhidin and what is witnessed wamashhūdin
And [by] the witness and what is witnessed,
قُتِلَ Destroyed were qutila (the) companions aṣḥābu (of) the pit l-ukh'dūdi
Destroyed [i.e., cursed] were the companions of the trench1
ٱلنَّارِ (Of) the fire al-nāri full dhāti (of) the fuel l-waqūdi
[Containing] the fire full of fuel,
إِذْ When idh they hum by it ʿalayhā (were) sitting quʿūdun
When they were sitting near it.
وَهُمْ And they wahum over ʿalā what mā they were doing yafʿalūna to the believers bil-mu'minīna witnesses shuhūdun
And they, to what they were doing against the believers, were witnesses. 1
وَمَا And not wamā they resented naqamū [of] them min'hum except illā that an they believed yu'minū in Allah bil-lahi the All-Mighty l-ʿazīzi the Praiseworthy l-ḥamīdi
And they resented them not except because they believed in Allāh, the Exalted in Might, the Praiseworthy,
ٱلَّذِى The One Who alladhī for Him lahu (is) the dominion mul'ku (of) the heavens l-samāwāti and the earth wal-arḍi and Allah wal-lahu on ʿalā every kulli thing shayin (is) a Witness shahīdun
To whom belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth. And Allāh, over all things, is Witness.1
إِنَّ Indeed inna those who alladhīna persecuted fatanū the believing men l-mu'minīna and the believing women wal-mu'mināti then thumma not lam they repented yatūbū then for them falahum (is the) punishment ʿadhābu (of) Hell jahannama and for them walahum (is the) punishment ʿadhābu (of) the Burning Fire l-ḥarīqi
Indeed, those who have tortured1 the believing men and believing women and then have not repented will have the punishment of Hell, and they will have the punishment of the Burning Fire.
إِنَّ Indeed inna those who alladhīna believe āmanū and do waʿamilū the righteous deeds l-ṣāliḥāti for them lahum (will be) Gardens jannātun flow tajrī from min underneath it taḥtihā the rivers l-anhāru That dhālika (is) the success l-fawzu the great l-kabīru
Indeed, those who have believed and done righteous deeds will have gardens beneath which rivers flow. That is the great attainment.
إِنَّ Indeed inna (the) Grip baṭsha (of) your Lord rabbika (is) surely strong lashadīdun
Indeed, the assault [i.e., vengeance] of your Lord is severe.
إِنَّهُۥ Indeed He innahu He huwa originates yub'di-u and repeats wayuʿīdu
Indeed, it is He who originates [creation] and repeats.
وَهُوَ And He wahuwa (is) the Oft-Forgiving l-ghafūru the Most Loving l-wadūdu
And He is the Forgiving, the Affectionate,
ذُو Owner (of) dhū the Throne l-ʿarshi the Glorious l-majīdu
Honorable Owner of the Throne,
فَعَّالٌۭ Doer faʿʿālun of what limā He intends yurīdu
Effecter of what He intends.
هَلْ Has hal come to you atāka (the) story ḥadīthu (of) the hosts l-junūdi
Has there reached you the story of the soldiers -
بَلِ Nay bali Those who alladhīna disbelieve kafarū (are) in fī denial takdhībin
But they who disbelieve are in [persistent] denial,
وَٱللَّهُ But Allah wal-lahu from min behind them warāihim encompasses muḥīṭun
While Allāh encompasses them from behind.1
بَلْ Nay bal It huwa (is) a Quran qur'ānun Glorious majīdun
But this is an honored Qur’ān
فِى In fī a Tablet lawḥin Guarded maḥfūẓin
[Inscribed] in a Preserved Slate.
