Al-Burūj

The Mansions of the Stars

البروج

وَٱلسَّمَآءِ

By the sky

wal-samāi

ذَاتِ

containing

dhāti

ٱلْبُرُوجِ

the constellations

l-burūji

١

By the sky containing great stars

— Saheeh International

وَٱلْيَوْمِ

And the Day

wal-yawmi

ٱلْمَوْعُودِ

Promised

l-mawʿūdi

٢

And [by] the promised Day

— Saheeh International

وَشَاهِدٍۢ

And (the) witness

washāhidin

وَمَشْهُودٍۢ

and what is witnessed

wamashhūdin

٣

And [by] the witness and what is witnessed,

— Saheeh International

قُتِلَ

Destroyed were

qutila

أَصْحَـٰبُ

(the) companions

aṣḥābu

ٱلْأُخْدُودِ

(of) the pit

l-ukh'dūdi

٤

Destroyed [i.e., cursed] were the companions of the trench1

— Saheeh International

ٱلنَّارِ

(Of) the fire

al-nāri

ذَاتِ

full

dhāti

ٱلْوَقُودِ

(of) the fuel

l-waqūdi

٥

[Containing] the fire full of fuel,

— Saheeh International

إِذْ

When

idh

هُمْ

they

hum

عَلَيْهَا

by it

ʿalayhā

قُعُودٌۭ

(were) sitting

quʿūdun

٦

When they were sitting near it.

— Saheeh International

وَهُمْ

And they

wahum

عَلَىٰ

over

ʿalā

مَا

what

يَفْعَلُونَ

they were doing

yafʿalūna

بِٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ

to the believers

bil-mu'minīna

شُهُودٌۭ

witnesses

shuhūdun

٧

And they, to what they were doing against the believers, were witnesses. 1

— Saheeh International

وَمَا

And not

wamā

نَقَمُوا۟

they resented

naqamū

مِنْهُمْ

[of] them

min'hum

إِلَّآ

except

illā

أَن

that

an

يُؤْمِنُوا۟

they believed

yu'minū

بِٱللَّهِ

in Allah

bil-lahi

ٱلْعَزِيزِ

the All-Mighty

l-ʿazīzi

ٱلْحَمِيدِ

the Praiseworthy

l-ḥamīdi

٨

And they resented them not except because they believed in Allāh, the Exalted in Might, the Praiseworthy,

— Saheeh International

ٱلَّذِى

The One Who

alladhī

لَهُۥ

for Him

lahu

مُلْكُ

(is) the dominion

mul'ku

ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ

(of) the heavens

l-samāwāti

وَٱلْأَرْضِ ۚ

and the earth

wal-arḍi

وَٱللَّهُ

and Allah

wal-lahu

عَلَىٰ

on

ʿalā

كُلِّ

every

kulli

شَىْءٍۢ

thing

shayin

شَهِيدٌ

(is) a Witness

shahīdun

٩

To whom belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth. And Allāh, over all things, is Witness.1

— Saheeh International

إِنَّ

Indeed

inna

ٱلَّذِينَ

those who

alladhīna

فَتَنُوا۟

persecuted

fatanū

ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ

the believing men

l-mu'minīna

وَٱلْمُؤْمِنَـٰتِ

and the believing women

wal-mu'mināti

ثُمَّ

then

thumma

لَمْ

not

lam

يَتُوبُوا۟

they repented

yatūbū

فَلَهُمْ

then for them

falahum

عَذَابُ

(is the) punishment

ʿadhābu

جَهَنَّمَ

(of) Hell

jahannama

وَلَهُمْ

and for them

walahum

عَذَابُ

(is the) punishment

ʿadhābu

ٱلْحَرِيقِ

(of) the Burning Fire

l-ḥarīqi

١٠

Indeed, those who have tortured1 the believing men and believing women and then have not repented will have the punishment of Hell, and they will have the punishment of the Burning Fire.

— Saheeh International

إِنَّ

Indeed

inna

ٱلَّذِينَ

those who

alladhīna

ءَامَنُوا۟

believe

āmanū

وَعَمِلُوا۟

and do

waʿamilū

ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ

the righteous deeds

l-ṣāliḥāti

لَهُمْ

for them

lahum

جَنَّـٰتٌۭ

(will be) Gardens

jannātun

تَجْرِى

flow

tajrī

مِن

from

min

تَحْتِهَا

underneath it

taḥtihā

ٱلْأَنْهَـٰرُ ۚ

the rivers

l-anhāru

ذَٰلِكَ

That

dhālika

ٱلْفَوْزُ

(is) the success

l-fawzu

ٱلْكَبِيرُ

the great

l-kabīru

١١

Indeed, those who have believed and done righteous deeds will have gardens beneath which rivers flow. That is the great attainment.

— Saheeh International

إِنَّ

Indeed

inna

بَطْشَ

(the) Grip

baṭsha

رَبِّكَ

(of) your Lord

rabbika

لَشَدِيدٌ

(is) surely strong

lashadīdun

١٢

Indeed, the assault [i.e., vengeance] of your Lord is severe.

— Saheeh International

إِنَّهُۥ

Indeed He

innahu

هُوَ

He

huwa

يُبْدِئُ

originates

yub'di-u

وَيُعِيدُ

and repeats

wayuʿīdu

١٣

Indeed, it is He who originates [creation] and repeats.

— Saheeh International

وَهُوَ

And He

wahuwa

ٱلْغَفُورُ

(is) the Oft-Forgiving

l-ghafūru

ٱلْوَدُودُ

the Most Loving

l-wadūdu

١٤

And He is the Forgiving, the Affectionate,

— Saheeh International

ذُو

Owner (of)

dhū

ٱلْعَرْشِ

the Throne

l-ʿarshi

ٱلْمَجِيدُ

the Glorious

l-majīdu

١٥

Honorable Owner of the Throne,

— Saheeh International

فَعَّالٌۭ

Doer

faʿʿālun

لِّمَا

of what

limā

يُرِيدُ

He intends

yurīdu

١٦

Effecter of what He intends.

— Saheeh International

هَلْ

Has

hal

أَتَىٰكَ

come to you

atāka

حَدِيثُ

(the) story

ḥadīthu

ٱلْجُنُودِ

(of) the hosts

l-junūdi

١٧

Has there reached you the story of the soldiers -

— Saheeh International

فِرْعَوْنَ

Firaun

fir'ʿawna

وَثَمُودَ

and Thamud

wathamūda

١٨

[Those of] Pharaoh and Thamūd?

— Saheeh International

بَلِ

Nay

bali

ٱلَّذِينَ

Those who

alladhīna

كَفَرُوا۟

disbelieve

kafarū

فِى

(are) in

تَكْذِيبٍۢ

denial

takdhībin

١٩

But they who disbelieve are in [persistent] denial,

— Saheeh International

وَٱللَّهُ

But Allah

wal-lahu

مِن

from

min

وَرَآئِهِم

behind them

warāihim

مُّحِيطٌۢ

encompasses

muḥīṭun

٢٠

While Allāh encompasses them from behind.1

— Saheeh International

بَلْ

Nay

bal

هُوَ

It

huwa

قُرْءَانٌۭ

(is) a Quran

qur'ānun

مَّجِيدٌۭ

Glorious

majīdun

٢١

But this is an honored Qur’ān

— Saheeh International

فِى

In

لَوْحٍۢ

a Tablet

lawḥin

مَّحْفُوظٍۭ

Guarded

maḥfūẓin

٢٢

[Inscribed] in a Preserved Slate.

— Saheeh International
