عَلَى

On

ʿalā

ٱلْأَرَآئِكِ

the thrones

l-arāiki

يَنظُرُونَ

observing

yanẓurūna

٣٥

On adorned couches, observing.

— Saheeh International

هَلْ

Have (not)

hal

ثُوِّبَ

been rewarded

thuwwiba

ٱلْكُفَّارُ

the disbelievers

l-kufāru

مَا

(for) what

كَانُوا۟

they used to

kānū

يَفْعَلُونَ

do

yafʿalūna

٣٦

Have the disbelievers [not] been rewarded [this Day] for what they used to do?

— Saheeh International

Al-'Inshiqāq

The Sundering

الإنشقاق

إِذَا

When

idhā

ٱلسَّمَآءُ

the sky

l-samāu

ٱنشَقَّتْ

is split asunder

inshaqqat

١

When the sky has split [open]

— Saheeh International

وَأَذِنَتْ

And has listened

wa-adhinat

لِرَبِّهَا

to its Lord

lirabbihā

وَحُقَّتْ

and was obligated

waḥuqqat

٢

And has listened [i.e., responded]1 to its Lord and was obligated [to do so]

— Saheeh International

وَإِذَا

And when

wa-idhā

ٱلْأَرْضُ

the earth

l-arḍu

مُدَّتْ

is spread

muddat

٣

And when the earth has been extended1

— Saheeh International

وَأَلْقَتْ

And has cast out

wa-alqat

مَا

what

فِيهَا

(is) in it

fīhā

وَتَخَلَّتْ

and becomes empty

watakhallat

٤

And has cast out that within it1 and relinquished [it].

— Saheeh International

وَأَذِنَتْ

And has listened

wa-adhinat

لِرَبِّهَا

to its Lord

lirabbihā

وَحُقَّتْ

and was obligated

waḥuqqat

٥

And has listened [i.e., responded] to its Lord and was obligated [to do so] -

— Saheeh International

يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا

O

yāayyuhā

ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ

mankind

l-insānu

إِنَّكَ

Indeed, you

innaka

كَادِحٌ

(are) laboring

kādiḥun

إِلَىٰ

to

ilā

رَبِّكَ

your Lord

rabbika

كَدْحًۭا

(with) exertion

kadḥan

فَمُلَـٰقِيهِ

and you (will) meet Him

famulāqīhi

٦

O mankind, indeed you are laboring toward your Lord with [great] exertion1 and will meet it.2

— Saheeh International

فَأَمَّا

Then as for

fa-ammā

مَنْ

(him) who

man

أُوتِىَ

is given

ūtiya

كِتَـٰبَهُۥ

his record

kitābahu

بِيَمِينِهِۦ

in his right (hand)

biyamīnihi

٧

Then as for he who is given his record in his right hand,

— Saheeh International

فَسَوْفَ

Then soon

fasawfa

يُحَاسَبُ

his account will be taken

yuḥāsabu

حِسَابًۭا

an account

ḥisāban

يَسِيرًۭا

easy

yasīran

٨

He will be judged with an easy account

— Saheeh International

وَيَنقَلِبُ

And he will return

wayanqalibu

إِلَىٰٓ

to

ilā

أَهْلِهِۦ

his people

ahlihi

مَسْرُورًۭا

happily

masrūran

٩

And return to his people in happiness.

— Saheeh International

وَأَمَّا

But as for

wa-ammā

مَنْ

(him) who

man

أُوتِىَ

is given

ūtiya

كِتَـٰبَهُۥ

his record

kitābahu

وَرَآءَ

behind

warāa

ظَهْرِهِۦ

his back

ẓahrihi

١٠

But as for he who is given his record behind his back,

— Saheeh International

فَسَوْفَ

Then soon

fasawfa

يَدْعُوا۟

he will call

yadʿū

ثُبُورًۭا

(for) destruction

thubūran

١١

He will cry out for destruction

— Saheeh International

وَيَصْلَىٰ

And he will burn

wayaṣlā

سَعِيرًا

(in) a Blaze

saʿīran

١٢

And [enter to] burn in a Blaze.

— Saheeh International

إِنَّهُۥ

Indeed, he

innahu

كَانَ

had been

kāna

فِىٓ

among

أَهْلِهِۦ

his people

ahlihi

مَسْرُورًا

happy

masrūran

١٣

Indeed, he had [once] been among his people in happiness;

— Saheeh International

إِنَّهُۥ

Indeed, he

innahu

ظَنَّ

(had) thought

ẓanna

أَن

that

an

لَّن

never

lan

يَحُورَ

he would return

yaḥūra

١٤

Indeed, he had thought he would never return [to Allāh].

— Saheeh International

بَلَىٰٓ

Yes

balā

إِنَّ

Indeed

inna

رَبَّهُۥ

his Lord

rabbahu

كَانَ

was

kāna

بِهِۦ

of him

bihi

بَصِيرًۭا

All-Seer

baṣīran

١٥

But yes! Indeed, his Lord was ever, of him, Seeing.

— Saheeh International

فَلَآ

But nay

falā

أُقْسِمُ

I swear

uq'simu

بِٱلشَّفَقِ

by the twilight glow

bil-shafaqi

١٦

So I swear by the twilight glow

— Saheeh International

وَٱلَّيْلِ

And the night

wa-al-layli

وَمَا

and what

wamā

وَسَقَ

it envelops

wasaqa

١٧

And [by] the night and what it envelops

— Saheeh International

وَٱلْقَمَرِ

And the moon

wal-qamari

إِذَا

when

idhā

ٱتَّسَقَ

it becomes full

ittasaqa

١٨

And [by] the moon when it becomes full

— Saheeh International

لَتَرْكَبُنَّ

You will surely embark

latarkabunna

طَبَقًا

(to) stage

ṭabaqan

عَن

from

ʿan

طَبَقٍۢ

stage

ṭabaqin

١٩

[That] you will surely embark upon [i.e., experience] state after state.1

— Saheeh International

فَمَا

So what

famā

لَهُمْ

(is) for them

lahum

لَا

not

يُؤْمِنُونَ

they believe

yu'minūna

٢٠

So what is [the matter] with them [that] they do not believe,

— Saheeh International

وَإِذَا

And when

wa-idhā

قُرِئَ

is recited

quri-a

عَلَيْهِمُ

to them

ʿalayhimu

ٱلْقُرْءَانُ

the Quran

l-qur'ānu

لَا

not

يَسْجُدُونَ ۩

they prostrate

yasjudūna

٢١

And when the Qur’ān is recited to them, they do not prostrate [to Allāh]?

— Saheeh International

بَلِ

Nay

bali

ٱلَّذِينَ

Those who

alladhīna

كَفَرُوا۟

disbelieved

kafarū

يُكَذِّبُونَ

deny

yukadhibūna

٢٢

But those who have disbelieved deny,

— Saheeh International

وَٱللَّهُ

And Allah

wal-lahu

أَعْلَمُ

(is) most knowing

aʿlamu

بِمَا

of what

bimā

يُوعُونَ

they keep within themselves

yūʿūna

٢٣

And Allāh is most knowing of what they keep within themselves.

— Saheeh International

فَبَشِّرْهُم

so give them tidings

fabashir'hum

بِعَذَابٍ

of a punishment

biʿadhābin

أَلِيمٍ

painful

alīmin

٢٤

So give them tidings of a painful punishment,

— Saheeh International

إِلَّا

Except

illā

ٱلَّذِينَ

those who

alladhīna

ءَامَنُوا۟

believe

āmanū

وَعَمِلُوا۟

and do

waʿamilū

ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ

righteous deeds

l-ṣāliḥāti

لَهُمْ

For them

lahum

أَجْرٌ

(is) a reward

ajrun

غَيْرُ

never

ghayru

مَمْنُونٍۭ

ending

mamnūnin

٢٥

Except for those who believe and do righteous deeds. For them is a reward uninterrupted.
