كَلَّآ

Nay

kallā

إِنَّ

Indeed

inna

كِتَـٰبَ

(the) record

kitāba

ٱلْفُجَّارِ

(of) the wicked

l-fujāri

لَفِى

(is) surely in

lafī

سِجِّينٍۢ

Sijjin

sijjīnin

٧

No! Indeed, the record of the wicked is in sijjeen.

— Saheeh International

وَمَآ

And what

wamā

أَدْرَىٰكَ

can make you know

adrāka

مَا

what

سِجِّينٌۭ

(is) Sijjin

sijjīnun

٨

And what can make you know what is sijjeen?

— Saheeh International

كِتَـٰبٌۭ

A book

kitābun

مَّرْقُومٌۭ

written

marqūmun

٩

It is [their destination1 recorded in] a register inscribed.

— Saheeh International

وَيْلٌۭ

Woe

waylun

يَوْمَئِذٍۢ

that Day

yawma-idhin

لِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَ

to the deniers

lil'mukadhibīna

١٠

Woe, that Day, to the deniers,

— Saheeh International

ٱلَّذِينَ

Those who

alladhīna

يُكَذِّبُونَ

deny

yukadhibūna

بِيَوْمِ

(the) Day

biyawmi

ٱلدِّينِ

(of) the Judgment

l-dīni

١١

Who deny the Day of Recompense.

— Saheeh International

وَمَا

And not

wamā

يُكَذِّبُ

can deny

yukadhibu

بِهِۦٓ

[of] it

bihi

إِلَّا

except

illā

كُلُّ

every

kullu

مُعْتَدٍ

transgressor

muʿ'tadin

أَثِيمٍ

sinful

athīmin

١٢

And none deny it except every sinful transgressor.

— Saheeh International

إِذَا

When

idhā

تُتْلَىٰ

are recited

tut'lā

عَلَيْهِ

to him

ʿalayhi

ءَايَـٰتُنَا

Our Verses

āyātunā

قَالَ

he says

qāla

أَسَـٰطِيرُ

Stories

asāṭīru

ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ

(of) the former (people)

l-awalīna

١٣

When Our verses are recited to him, he says, "Legends of the former peoples."

— Saheeh International

كَلَّا ۖ

Nay

kallā

بَلْ ۜ

But

bal

رَانَ

(the) stain has covered

rāna

عَلَىٰ

[over]

ʿalā

قُلُوبِهِم

their hearts

qulūbihim

مَّا

(for) what

كَانُوا۟

they used to

kānū

يَكْسِبُونَ

earn

yaksibūna

١٤

No! Rather, the stain has covered their hearts of that which they were earning.1

— Saheeh International

كَلَّآ

Nay

kallā

إِنَّهُمْ

Indeed, they

innahum

عَن

from

ʿan

رَّبِّهِمْ

their Lord

rabbihim

يَوْمَئِذٍۢ

that Day

yawma-idhin

لَّمَحْجُوبُونَ

surely will be partitioned

lamaḥjūbūna

١٥

No! Indeed, from their Lord, that Day, they will be partitioned.1

— Saheeh International

ثُمَّ

Then

thumma

إِنَّهُمْ

indeed, they

innahum

لَصَالُوا۟

(surely) will burn

laṣālū

ٱلْجَحِيمِ

(in) the Hellfire

l-jaḥīmi

١٦

Then indeed, they will [enter and] burn in Hellfire.

— Saheeh International

ثُمَّ

Then

thumma

يُقَالُ

it will be said

yuqālu

هَـٰذَا

This

hādhā

ٱلَّذِى

(is) what

alladhī

كُنتُم

you used to

kuntum

بِهِۦ

[of it]

bihi

تُكَذِّبُونَ

deny

tukadhibūna

١٧

Then it will be said [to them], "This is what you used to deny."

— Saheeh International

كَلَّآ

Nay

kallā

إِنَّ

Indeed

inna

كِتَـٰبَ

(the) record

kitāba

ٱلْأَبْرَارِ

(of) the righteous

l-abrāri

لَفِى

(will be) surely in

lafī

عِلِّيِّينَ

Illiyin

ʿilliyyīna

١٨

No! Indeed, the record of the righteous is in ʿilliyyūn.

— Saheeh International

وَمَآ

And what

wamā

أَدْرَىٰكَ

can make you know

adrāka

مَا

what

عِلِّيُّونَ

(is) Illiyun

ʿilliyyūna

١٩

And what can make you know what is ʿilliyyūn?

— Saheeh International

كِتَـٰبٌۭ

A book

kitābun

مَّرْقُومٌۭ

written

marqūmun

٢٠

It is [their destination1 recorded in] a register inscribed

— Saheeh International

يَشْهَدُهُ

Witness it

yashhaduhu

ٱلْمُقَرَّبُونَ

those brought near

l-muqarabūna

٢١

Which is witnessed by those brought near [to Allāh].

— Saheeh International

إِنَّ

Indeed

inna

ٱلْأَبْرَارَ

the righteous

l-abrāra

لَفِى

(will be) surely in

lafī

نَعِيمٍ

bliss

naʿīmin

٢٢

Indeed, the righteous will be in pleasure

— Saheeh International

عَلَى

On

ʿalā

ٱلْأَرَآئِكِ

thrones

l-arāiki

يَنظُرُونَ

observing

yanẓurūna

٢٣

On adorned couches, observing.

— Saheeh International

تَعْرِفُ

You will recognize

taʿrifu

فِى

in

وُجُوهِهِمْ

their faces

wujūhihim

نَضْرَةَ

(the) radiance

naḍrata

ٱلنَّعِيمِ

(of) bliss

l-naʿīmi

٢٤

You will recognize in their faces the radiance of pleasure.

— Saheeh International

يُسْقَوْنَ

They will be given to drink

yus'qawna

مِن

of

min

رَّحِيقٍۢ

a pure wine

raḥīqin

مَّخْتُومٍ

sealed

makhtūmin

٢٥

They will be given to drink [pure] wine1 [which was] sealed.

— Saheeh International

خِتَـٰمُهُۥ

Its seal

khitāmuhu

مِسْكٌۭ ۚ

(will be of) musk

mis'kun

وَفِى

And for

wafī

ذَٰلِكَ

that

dhālika

فَلْيَتَنَافَسِ

let aspire

falyatanāfasi

ٱلْمُتَنَـٰفِسُونَ

the aspirers

l-mutanāfisūna

٢٦

The last of it1 is musk. So for this let the competitors compete.

— Saheeh International

وَمِزَاجُهُۥ

And its mixture

wamizājuhu

مِن

(is) of

min

تَسْنِيمٍ

Tasneem

tasnīmin

٢٧

And its mixture is of Tasneem,1

— Saheeh International

عَيْنًۭا

A spring

ʿaynan

يَشْرَبُ

will drink

yashrabu

بِهَا

from it

bihā

ٱلْمُقَرَّبُونَ

those brought near

l-muqarabūna

٢٨

A spring from which those near [to Allāh] drink.

— Saheeh International

إِنَّ

Indeed

inna

ٱلَّذِينَ

those who

alladhīna

أَجْرَمُوا۟

committed crimes

ajramū

كَانُوا۟

used to

kānū

مِنَ

at

mina

ٱلَّذِينَ

those who

alladhīna

ءَامَنُوا۟

believed

āmanū

يَضْحَكُونَ

laugh

yaḍḥakūna

٢٩

Indeed, those who committed crimes used to laugh at those who believed.

— Saheeh International

وَإِذَا

And when

wa-idhā

مَرُّوا۟

they passed

marrū

بِهِمْ

by them

bihim

يَتَغَامَزُونَ

they winked at one another

yataghāmazūna

٣٠

And when they passed by them, they would exchange derisive glances.

— Saheeh International

وَإِذَا

And when

wa-idhā

ٱنقَلَبُوٓا۟

they returned

inqalabū

إِلَىٰٓ

to

ilā

أَهْلِهِمُ

their people

ahlihimu

ٱنقَلَبُوا۟

they would return

inqalabū

فَكِهِينَ

jesting

fakihīna

٣١

And when they returned to their people, they would return jesting.

— Saheeh International

وَإِذَا

And when

wa-idhā

رَأَوْهُمْ

they saw them

ra-awhum

قَالُوٓا۟

they said

qālū

إِنَّ

Indeed

inna

هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ

these

hāulāi

لَضَآلُّونَ

surely have gone astray

laḍāllūna

٣٢

And when they saw them, they would say, "Indeed, those are truly lost."

— Saheeh International

وَمَآ

But not

wamā

أُرْسِلُوا۟

they had been sent

ur'silū

عَلَيْهِمْ

over them

ʿalayhim

حَـٰفِظِينَ

(as) guardians

ḥāfiẓīna

٣٣

But they had not been sent as guardians over them.

— Saheeh International

فَٱلْيَوْمَ

So today

fal-yawma

ٱلَّذِينَ

those who

alladhīna

ءَامَنُوا۟

believed

āmanū

مِنَ

at

mina

ٱلْكُفَّارِ

the disbelievers

l-kufāri

يَضْحَكُونَ

they will laugh

yaḍḥakūna

٣٤

So Today1 those who believed are laughing at the disbelievers,

— Saheeh International
