The Cleaving

الإنفطار
إِذَا When idhā the sky l-samāu (is) cleft asunder infaṭarat
When the sky breaks apart
وَإِذَا And when wa-idhā the stars l-kawākibu scatter intatharat
And when the stars fall, scattering,
وَإِذَا And when wa-idhā the seas l-biḥāru are made to gush forth fujjirat
And when the seas are erupted
وَإِذَا And when wa-idhā the graves l-qubūru are overturned buʿ'thirat
And when the [contents of] graves are scattered [i.e., exposed],
عَلِمَتْ Will know ʿalimat a soul nafsun what mā it has sent forth qaddamat and left behind wa-akharat
A soul will [then] know what it has put forth and kept back.
يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا O yāayyuhā man l-insānu What mā has deceived you gharraka concerning your Lord birabbika the Most Noble l-karīmi
O mankind, what has deceived you concerning your Lord, the Generous,
ٱلَّذِى Who alladhī created you khalaqaka then fashioned you fasawwāka then balanced you faʿadalaka
Who created you, proportioned you, and balanced you?
فِىٓ In fī whatever ayyi form ṣūratin what mā He willed shāa He assembled you rakkabaka
In whatever form He willed has He assembled you.
كَلَّا Nay kallā But bal you deny tukadhibūna the Judgment bil-dīni
No! But you deny the Recompense.
وَإِنَّ And indeed wa-inna over you ʿalaykum (are) surely guardians laḥāfiẓīna
And indeed, [appointed] over you are keepers,1
يَعْلَمُونَ They know yaʿlamūna whatever mā you do tafʿalūna
They know whatever you do.
إِنَّ Indeed inna the righteous l-abrāra (will be) surely in lafī bliss naʿīmin
Indeed, the righteous will be in pleasure,
وَإِنَّ And indeed wa-inna the wicked l-fujāra (will be) surely in lafī Hellfire jaḥīmin
And indeed, the wicked will be in Hellfire.
يَصْلَوْنَهَا They will burn (in) it yaṣlawnahā (on the) Day yawma (of) the Judgment l-dīni
They will [enter to] burn therein on the Day of Recompense,
وَمَا And not wamā they hum from it ʿanhā (will be) absent bighāibīna
And never therefrom will they be absent.
وَمَآ And what wamā can make you know adrāka what mā (is the) Day yawmu (of) the Judgment l-dīni
And what can make you know what is the Day of Recompense?
ثُمَّ Then thumma what mā can make you know adrāka what mā (is the) Day yawmu (of) the Judgment l-dīni
Then, what can make you know what is the Day of Recompense?
يَوْمَ (The) Day yawma not lā will have power tamliku a soul nafsun for a soul linafsin anything shayan and the Command wal-amru that Day yawma-idhin (will be) with Allah lillahi
It is the Day when a soul will not possess for another soul [power to do] a thing; and the command, that Day, is [entirely] with Allāh.
Al-Muţaffifīn
The Defrauding
﷽
المطففين
وَيْلٌۭ Woe waylun to those who give less lil'muṭaffifīna
Woe to those who give less [than due],1
ٱلَّذِينَ Those who alladhīna when idhā they take a measure ik'tālū from ʿalā the people l-nāsi they take in full yastawfūna
Who, when they take a measure from people, take in full.
وَإِذَا But when wa-idhā they give by measure (to) them kālūhum or aw they weigh (for) them wazanūhum they give less yukh'sirūna
But if they give by measure or by weight to them, they cause loss.
أَلَا Do not alā think yaẓunnu those ulāika that they annahum (will be) resurrected mabʿūthūna
Do they not think that they will be resurrected
يَوْمَ (The) Day yawma will stand yaqūmu mankind l-nāsu before (the) Lord lirabbi (of) the worlds l-ʿālamīna
The Day when mankind will stand before the Lord of the worlds?
