إِنَّ Indeed inna this hādhā surely it (is) lahuwa the narration l-qaṣaṣu [the] true l-ḥaqu And (there is) no wamā (of) min god ilāhin except illā Allah l-lahu And indeed wa-inna Allah l-laha surely He lahuwa (is) the All-Mighty l-ʿazīzu the All-Wise l-ḥakīmu
Indeed, this is the true narration. And there is no deity except Allāh. And indeed, Allāh is the Exalted in Might, the Wise.
فَإِن And if fa-in they turn back tawallaw then indeed fa-inna Allah l-laha (is) All-Knowing ʿalīmun of the corrupters bil-muf'sidīna
But if they turn away, then indeed - Allāh is Knowing of the corrupters.
قُلْ Say qul O People yāahla (of) the Book l-kitābi Come taʿālaw to ilā a word kalimatin equitable sawāin between us baynanā and between you wabaynakum that not allā we worship naʿbuda except illā Allah l-laha and not walā we associate partners nush'rika with Him bihi anything shayan and not walā take yattakhidha some of us baʿḍunā (to) others baʿḍan (as) lords arbāban from min besides dūni Allah l-lahi Then if fa-in they turn away tawallaw then say faqūlū Bear witness ish'hadū that we bi-annā (are) Muslims mus'limūna
Say, "O People of the Scripture, come to a word that is equitable between us and you - that we will not worship except Allāh and not associate anything with Him and not take one another as lords instead of Allāh."1 But if they turn away, then say, "Bear witness that we are Muslims [submitting to Him]."
يَـٰٓأَهْلَ O People yāahla (of) the Book l-kitābi Why lima (do) you argue tuḥājjūna concerning fī Ibrahim ib'rāhīma while not wamā was revealed unzilati the Taurat l-tawrātu and the Injeel wal-injīlu except illā from min after him baʿdihi Then why don't afalā you use your intellect taʿqilūna
O People of the Scripture, why do you argue about Abraham while the Torah and the Gospel were not revealed until after him? Then will you not reason?
هَـٰٓأَنتُمْ Here you are hāantum those who hāulāi argued ḥājajtum about what fīmā [for] you lakum of it bihi (have some) knowledge ʿil'mun Then why falima (do) you argue tuḥājjūna about what fīmā not laysa for you lakum of it bihi (any) knowledge ʿil'mun And Allah wal-lahu knows yaʿlamu while you wa-antum (do) not lā know taʿlamūna
Here you are - those who have argued about that of which you have [some] knowledge, but why do you argue about that of which you have no knowledge? And Allāh knows, while you know not.
مَا Not mā was kāna Ibrahim ib'rāhīmu a Jew yahūdiyyan and not walā a Christian naṣrāniyyan [and] but walākin he was kāna a true ḥanīfan Muslim mus'liman and not wamā he was kāna from mina the polytheists l-mush'rikīna
Abraham was neither a Jew nor a Christian, but he was one inclining toward truth, a Muslim [submitting to Allāh]. And he was not of the polytheists.1
إِنَّ Indeed inna the best to claim relationship awlā (of) people l-nāsi with Ibrahim bi-ib'rāhīma (are) those who lalladhīna follow him ittabaʿūhu and this wahādhā [the] Prophet l-nabiyu and those who wa-alladhīna believe[d] āmanū And Allah wal-lahu (is) a Guardian waliyyu (of) the believers l-mu'minīna
Indeed, the most worthy of Abraham among the people are those who followed him [in submission to Allāh] and this prophet [i.e., Muḥammad (ﷺ)] and those who believe [in his message]. And Allāh is the Ally1 of the believers.
وَدَّت Wished waddat a group ṭāifatun from min (the) People ahli (of) the Book l-kitābi if law they could lead you astray yuḍillūnakum and not wamā they lead astray yuḍillūna except illā themselves anfusahum and not wamā they perceive yashʿurūna
A faction of the People of the Scripture wish they could mislead you. But they do not mislead except themselves, and they perceive [it] not.
يَـٰٓأَهْلَ O People yāahla (of) the Book l-kitābi Why do lima you deny takfurūna [in] the Signs biāyāti (of) Allah l-lahi while you wa-antum bear witness tashhadūna
O People of the Scripture, why do you disbelieve in the verses of Allāh1 while you witness [to their truth]?
