يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا O yāayyuhā (you) who alladhīna believe āmanū When idhā (the) call is made nūdiya for (the) prayer lilṣṣalati on min (the) day yawmi (of) Friday l-jumuʿati then hasten fa-is'ʿaw to ilā (the) remembrance dhik'ri (of) Allah l-lahi and leave wadharū the business l-bayʿa That dhālikum (is) better khayrun for you lakum if in you kuntum know taʿlamūna
O you who have believed, when [the adhān] is called for the prayer on the day of Jumuʿah [Friday], then proceed to the remembrance of Allāh and leave trade. That is better for you, if you only knew.
فَإِذَا Then when fa-idhā is concluded quḍiyati the prayer l-ṣalatu then disperse fa-intashirū in fī the land l-arḍi and seek wa-ib'taghū from min (the) Bounty faḍli (of) Allah l-lahi and remember wa-udh'kurū Allah l-laha much kathīran so that you may laʿallakum succeed tuf'liḥūna
And when the prayer has been concluded, disperse within the land and seek from the bounty of Allāh, and remember Allāh often that you may succeed.
وَإِذَا And when wa-idhā they saw ra-aw a transaction tijāratan or aw a sport lahwan they rushed infaḍḍū to it ilayhā and left you watarakūka standing qāiman Say qul What mā (is) with ʿinda Allah l-lahi (is) better khayrun than mina the sport l-lahwi and from wamina (any) transaction l-tijārati And Allah wal-lahu (is the) Best khayru (of) the Providers l-rāziqīna
But [on one occasion] when they saw a transaction or a diversion, [O Muḥammad], they rushed to it and left you standing. Say, "What is with Allāh is better than diversion and than a transaction, and Allāh is the best of providers."
Al-Munāfiqūn
The Hypocrites

المنافقون
إِذَا When idhā come to you jāaka the hypocrites l-munāfiqūna they say qālū We testify nashhadu that you innaka (are) surely (the) Messenger larasūlu (of) Allah l-lahi And Allah wal-lahu knows yaʿlamu that you innaka (are) surely His Messenger larasūluhu and Allah wal-lahu testifies yashhadu that inna the hypocrites l-munāfiqīna (are) surely liars lakādhibūna
When the hypocrites come to you, [O Muḥammad], they say, "We testify that you are the Messenger of Allāh." And Allāh knows that you are His Messenger, and Allāh testifies that the hypocrites are liars.
ٱتَّخَذُوٓا۟ They take ittakhadhū their oaths aymānahum (as) a cover junnatan so they turn away faṣaddū from ʿan (the) Way sabīli (of) Allah l-lahi Indeed, [they] innahum evil is sāa what mā they used to kānū do yaʿmalūna
They have taken their oaths as a cover, so they averted [people] from the way of Allāh. Indeed, it was evil that they were doing.
ذَٰلِكَ That dhālika (is) because bi-annahum they believed āmanū then thumma they disbelieved kafarū so were sealed faṭubiʿa [upon] ʿalā their hearts qulūbihim so they fahum (do) not lā understand yafqahūna
That is because they believed, and then they disbelieved; so their hearts were sealed over, and they do not understand.
۞ وَإِذَا And when wa-idhā you see them ra-aytahum pleases you tuʿ'jibuka their bodies ajsāmuhum and if wa-in they speak yaqūlū you listen tasmaʿ to their speech liqawlihim as if they (were) ka-annahum pieces of wood khushubun propped up musannadatun They think yaḥsabūna every kulla shout ṣayḥatin (is) against them ʿalayhim They humu (are) the enemy l-ʿaduwu so beware of them fa-iḥ'dharhum May destroy them qātalahumu Allah l-lahu How annā are they deluded yu'fakūna
And when you see them, their forms please you, and if they speak, you listen to their speech. [They are] as if they were pieces of wood propped up1 - they think that every shout is against them. They are the enemy, so beware of them. May Allāh destroy them; how are they deluded?
