هُنَالِكَ There only hunālika invoked daʿā Zakariya zakariyyā his Lord rabbahu he said qāla My Lord rabbi grant hab [for] me lī from min Yourself ladunka offspring dhurriyyatan pure ṭayyibatan Indeed, You innaka (are) All-Hearer samīʿu (of) the prayer l-duʿāi
At that, Zechariah called upon his Lord, saying, "My Lord, grant me from Yourself a good offspring. Indeed, You are the Hearer of supplication."
فَنَادَتْهُ Then called him fanādathu the Angels l-malāikatu when he wahuwa (was) standing qāimun praying yuṣallī in fī the prayer chamber l-miḥ'rābi Indeed anna Allah l-laha gives you glad tidings yubashiruka of Yahya biyaḥyā confirming muṣaddiqan [of] a Word bikalimatin from mina Allah l-lahi and a noble wasayyidan and chaste waḥaṣūran and a Prophet wanabiyyan among mina the righteous l-ṣāliḥīna
So the angels called him while he was standing in prayer in the chamber, "Indeed, Allāh gives you good tidings of John, confirming a word1 from Allāh and [who will be] honorable, abstaining [from women], and a prophet from among the righteous."
قَالَ He said qāla My Lord rabbi how annā can (there) be yakūnu for me lī a son ghulāmun and verily waqad has reached me balaghaniya [the] old age l-kibaru and my wife wa-im'ra-atī (is) [a] barren ʿāqirun He said qāla Thus kadhālika Allah l-lahu does yafʿalu what mā He wills yashāu
He said, "My Lord, how will I have a boy when I have reached old age and my wife is barren?" He [the angel] said, "Such is Allāh; He does what He wills."
قَالَ He said qāla My Lord rabbi make ij'ʿal for me lī a sign āyatan He said qāla your sign āyatuka (is) that not allā you will speak tukallima (to) the people l-nāsa (for) three thalāthata days ayyāmin except illā (with) gestures ramzan And remember wa-udh'kur your Lord rabbaka much kathīran and glorify (Him) wasabbiḥ in the evening bil-ʿashiyi and (in) the morning wal-ib'kāri
He said, "My Lord, make for me a sign." He said, "Your sign is that you will not [be able to] speak to the people for three days except by gesture. And remember your Lord much and exalt [Him with praise] in the evening and the morning."
وَإِذْ And when wa-idh said qālati the Angels l-malāikatu O Maryam yāmaryamu Indeed inna Allah l-laha (has) chosen you iṣ'ṭafāki and purified you waṭahharaki and chosen you wa-iṣ'ṭafāki over ʿalā (the) women nisāi (of) the worlds l-ʿālamīna
And [mention] when the angels said, "O Mary, indeed Allāh has chosen you and purified you and chosen you above the women of the worlds.
يَـٰمَرْيَمُ O Maryam yāmaryamu Be obedient uq'nutī to your Lord lirabbiki and prostrate wa-us'judī and bow down wa-ir'kaʿī with maʿa those who bow down l-rākiʿīna
O Mary, be devoutly obedient to your Lord and prostrate and bow with those who bow [in prayer]."
ذَٰلِكَ That dhālika (is) from min (the) news anbāi (of) the unseen l-ghaybi We reveal it nūḥīhi to you ilayka And not wamā you were kunta with them ladayhim when idh they cast yul'qūna their pens aqlāmahum (as to) which of them ayyuhum takes charge (of) yakfulu Maryam maryama and not wamā you were kunta with them ladayhim when idh they (were) disputing yakhtaṣimūna
That is from the news of the unseen which We reveal to you, [O Muḥammad]. And you were not with them when they cast their pens1 as to which of them should be responsible for Mary. Nor were you with them when they disputed.
إِذْ When idh said qālati the Angels l-malāikatu O Maryam yāmaryamu Indeed inna Allah l-laha gives you glad tidings yubashiruki of a word bikalimatin from Him min'hu his name us'muhu (is) the Messiah l-masīḥu Isa ʿīsā son ub'nu (of) Maryam maryama honored wajīhan in fī the world l-dun'yā and (in) the Hereafter wal-ākhirati and of wamina those brought near (to Allah) l-muqarabīna
[And mention] when the angels said, "O Mary, indeed Allāh gives you good tidings of a word1 from Him, whose name will be the Messiah, Jesus, the son of Mary - distinguished in this world and the Hereafter and among those brought near [to Allāh].
