فَقَضَىٰهُنَّ

Then He completed them

faqaḍāhunna

سَبْعَ

(as) seven

sabʿa

سَمَـٰوَاتٍۢ

heavens

samāwātin

فِى

in

يَوْمَيْنِ

two periods

yawmayni

وَأَوْحَىٰ

and He revealed

wa-awḥā

فِى

in

كُلِّ

each

kulli

سَمَآءٍ

heaven

samāin

أَمْرَهَا ۚ

its affair

amrahā

وَزَيَّنَّا

And We adorned

wazayyannā

ٱلسَّمَآءَ

the heaven

l-samāa

ٱلدُّنْيَا

[the world]

l-dun'yā

بِمَصَـٰبِيحَ

with lamps

bimaṣābīḥa

وَحِفْظًۭا ۚ

and (to) guard

waḥif'ẓan

ذَٰلِكَ

That

dhālika

تَقْدِيرُ

(is the) Decree

taqdīru

ٱلْعَزِيزِ

(of) the All-Mighty

l-ʿazīzi

ٱلْعَلِيمِ

the All-Knower

l-ʿalīmi

١٢

And He completed them as seven heavens within two days and inspired [i.e., made known] in each heaven its command. And We adorned the nearest heaven with lamps [i.e., stars, for beauty] and as protection.1 That is the determination of the Exalted in Might, the Knowing.

— Saheeh International

فَإِنْ

But if

fa-in

أَعْرَضُوا۟

they turn away

aʿraḍū

فَقُلْ

then say

faqul

أَنذَرْتُكُمْ

I have warned you

andhartukum

صَـٰعِقَةًۭ

(of) a thunderbolt

ṣāʿiqatan

مِّثْلَ

like

mith'la

صَـٰعِقَةِ

(the) thunderbolt

ṣāʿiqati

عَادٍۢ

(of) Aad

ʿādin

وَثَمُودَ

and Thamud

wathamūda

١٣

But if they turn away, then say, "I have warned you of a thunderbolt like the thunderbolt [that struck] ʿAad and Thamūd.

— Saheeh International

إِذْ

When

idh

جَآءَتْهُمُ

came to them

jāathumu

ٱلرُّسُلُ

the Messengers

l-rusulu

مِنۢ

from before them

min

بَيْنِ

from before them

bayni

أَيْدِيهِمْ

from before them

aydīhim

وَمِنْ

and from

wamin

خَلْفِهِمْ

behind them

khalfihim

أَلَّا

(saying) "Do not

allā

تَعْبُدُوٓا۟

worship

taʿbudū

إِلَّا

except

illā

ٱللَّهَ ۖ

Allah

l-laha

قَالُوا۟

They said

qālū

لَوْ

If

law

شَآءَ

(had) willed

shāa

رَبُّنَا

our Lord

rabbunā

لَأَنزَلَ

surely, He (would have) sent down

la-anzala

مَلَـٰٓئِكَةًۭ

Angels

malāikatan

فَإِنَّا

So indeed, we

fa-innā

بِمَآ

in what

bimā

أُرْسِلْتُم

you have been sent

ur'sil'tum

بِهِۦ

with

bihi

كَـٰفِرُونَ

(are) disbelievers

kāfirūna

١٤

[That occurred] when the messengers had come to them before them and after them, [saying], "Worship not except Allāh." They said, "If our Lord had willed,1 He would have sent down the angels, so indeed we, in that with which you have been sent, are disbelievers."

— Saheeh International

فَأَمَّا

Then as for

fa-ammā

عَادٌۭ

Aad

ʿādun

فَٱسْتَكْبَرُوا۟

they were arrogant

fa-is'takbarū

فِى

in

ٱلْأَرْضِ

the land

l-arḍi

بِغَيْرِ

without

bighayri

ٱلْحَقِّ

[the] right

l-ḥaqi

وَقَالُوا۟

and they said

waqālū

مَنْ

Who

man

أَشَدُّ

(is) mightier

ashaddu

مِنَّا

than us

minnā

قُوَّةً ۖ

(in) strength

quwwatan

أَوَلَمْ

Do not

awalam

يَرَوْا۟

they see

yaraw

أَنَّ

that

anna

ٱللَّهَ

Allah

l-laha

ٱلَّذِى

the One Who

alladhī

خَلَقَهُمْ

created them

khalaqahum

هُوَ

He

huwa

أَشَدُّ

(is) Mightier

ashaddu

مِنْهُمْ

than them

min'hum

قُوَّةًۭ ۖ

(in) strength

quwwatan

وَكَانُوا۟

But they used to

wakānū

بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَا

in Our Signs

biāyātinā

يَجْحَدُونَ

deny

yajḥadūna

١٥

As for ʿAad, they were arrogant upon the earth without right and said, "Who is greater than us in strength?" Did they not consider that Allāh who created them was greater than them in strength? But they were rejecting Our signs.

— Saheeh International

فَأَرْسَلْنَا

So We sent

fa-arsalnā

عَلَيْهِمْ

upon them

ʿalayhim

رِيحًۭا

a wind

rīḥan

صَرْصَرًۭا

furious

ṣarṣaran

فِىٓ

in

أَيَّامٍۢ

(the) days

ayyāmin

نَّحِسَاتٍۢ

(of) misfortune

naḥisātin

لِّنُذِيقَهُمْ

that We may make them taste

linudhīqahum

عَذَابَ

(the) punishment

ʿadhāba

ٱلْخِزْىِ

(of) disgrace

l-khiz'yi

فِى

in

ٱلْحَيَوٰةِ

the life

l-ḥayati

ٱلدُّنْيَا ۖ

(of) the world

l-dun'yā

وَلَعَذَابُ

And surely, (the) punishment

walaʿadhābu

ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ

(of) the Hereafter

l-ākhirati

أَخْزَىٰ ۖ

(is) more disgracing

akhzā

وَهُمْ

and they

wahum

لَا

will not be helped

يُنصَرُونَ

will not be helped

yunṣarūna

١٦

So We sent upon them a screaming wind during days of misfortune to make them taste the punishment of disgrace in the worldly life; but the punishment of the Hereafter is more disgracing, and they will not be helped.

— Saheeh International

وَأَمَّا

And as for

wa-ammā

ثَمُودُ

Thamud

thamūdu

فَهَدَيْنَـٰهُمْ

We guided them

fahadaynāhum

فَٱسْتَحَبُّوا۟

but they preferred

fa-is'taḥabbū

ٱلْعَمَىٰ

[the] blindness

l-ʿamā

عَلَى

over

ʿalā

ٱلْهُدَىٰ

the guidance

l-hudā

فَأَخَذَتْهُمْ

so seized them

fa-akhadhathum

صَـٰعِقَةُ

a thunderbolt

ṣāʿiqatu

ٱلْعَذَابِ

(of) the punishment

l-ʿadhābi

ٱلْهُونِ

humiliating

l-hūni

بِمَا

for what

bimā

كَانُوا۟

they used to

kānū

يَكْسِبُونَ

earn

yaksibūna

١٧

And as for Thamūd, We guided them, but they preferred blindness over guidance, so the thunderbolt of humiliating punishment seized them for what they used to earn.

— Saheeh International

وَنَجَّيْنَا

And We saved

wanajjaynā

ٱلَّذِينَ

those who

alladhīna

ءَامَنُوا۟

believed

āmanū

وَكَانُوا۟

and used to

wakānū

يَتَّقُونَ

fear (Allah)

yattaqūna

١٨

And We saved those who believed and used to fear Allāh.

— Saheeh International

وَيَوْمَ

And (the) Day

wayawma

يُحْشَرُ

will be gathered

yuḥ'sharu

أَعْدَآءُ

(the) enemies

aʿdāu

ٱللَّهِ

(of) Allah

l-lahi

إِلَى

to

ilā

ٱلنَّارِ

the Fire

l-nāri

فَهُمْ

then they

fahum

يُوزَعُونَ

will be assembled in rows

yūzaʿūna

١٩

And [mention, O Muḥammad], the Day when the enemies of Allāh will be gathered to the Fire while they are [driven], assembled in rows,

— Saheeh International

حَتَّىٰٓ

Until

ḥattā

إِذَا

when

idhā

مَا

when

جَآءُوهَا

they come to it

jāūhā

شَهِدَ

(will) testify

shahida

عَلَيْهِمْ

against them

ʿalayhim

سَمْعُهُمْ

their hearing

samʿuhum

وَأَبْصَـٰرُهُمْ

and their sight

wa-abṣāruhum

وَجُلُودُهُم

and their skins

wajulūduhum

بِمَا

(as) to what

bimā

كَانُوا۟

they used to

kānū

يَعْمَلُونَ

do

yaʿmalūna

٢٠

Until, when they reach it, their hearing and their eyes and their skins will testify against them of what they used to do.

— Saheeh International
