hha-meem

١

Ḥā, Meem.1

— Saheeh International

تَنزِيلٌۭ

A revelation

tanzīlun

مِّنَ

from

mina

ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ

the Most Gracious

l-raḥmāni

ٱلرَّحِيمِ

the Most Merciful

l-raḥīmi

٢

[This is] a revelation from the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful -

— Saheeh International

كِتَـٰبٌۭ

A Book

kitābun

فُصِّلَتْ

are detailed

fuṣṣilat

ءَايَـٰتُهُۥ

its Verses

āyātuhu

قُرْءَانًا

a Quran

qur'ānan

عَرَبِيًّۭا

(in) Arabic

ʿarabiyyan

لِّقَوْمٍۢ

for a people

liqawmin

يَعْلَمُونَ

(who) know

yaʿlamūna

٣

A Book whose verses have been detailed, an Arabic Qur’ān1 for a people who know,

— Saheeh International

بَشِيرًۭا

A giver of glad tidings

bashīran

وَنَذِيرًۭا

and a warner

wanadhīran

فَأَعْرَضَ

but turn away

fa-aʿraḍa

أَكْثَرُهُمْ

most of them

aktharuhum

فَهُمْ

so they

fahum

لَا

(do) not

يَسْمَعُونَ

hear

yasmaʿūna

٤

As a giver of good tidings and a warner; but most of them turn away, so they do not hear.

— Saheeh International

وَقَالُوا۟

And they say

waqālū

قُلُوبُنَا

Our hearts

qulūbunā

فِىٓ

(are) in

أَكِنَّةٍۢ

coverings

akinnatin

مِّمَّا

from what

mimmā

تَدْعُونَآ

you call us

tadʿūnā

إِلَيْهِ

to it

ilayhi

وَفِىٓ

and in

wafī

ءَاذَانِنَا

our ears

ādhāninā

وَقْرٌۭ

(is) deafness

waqrun

وَمِنۢ

and between us

wamin

بَيْنِنَا

and between us

bayninā

وَبَيْنِكَ

and between you

wabaynika

حِجَابٌۭ

(is) a screen

ḥijābun

فَٱعْمَلْ

So work

fa-iʿ'mal

إِنَّنَا

indeed, we

innanā

عَـٰمِلُونَ

(are) working

ʿāmilūna

٥

And they say, "Our hearts are within coverings [i.e., screened] from that to which you invite us, and in our ears is deafness, and between us and you is a partition, so work;1 indeed, we are working."

— Saheeh International

قُلْ

Say

qul

إِنَّمَآ

Only

innamā

أَنَا۠

I am

anā

بَشَرٌۭ

a man

basharun

مِّثْلُكُمْ

like you

mith'lukum

يُوحَىٰٓ

it is revealed

yūḥā

إِلَىَّ

to me

ilayya

أَنَّمَآ

that

annamā

إِلَـٰهُكُمْ

your god

ilāhukum

إِلَـٰهٌۭ

(is) God

ilāhun

وَٰحِدٌۭ

One

wāḥidun

فَٱسْتَقِيمُوٓا۟

so take a Straight Path

fa-is'taqīmū

إِلَيْهِ

to Him

ilayhi

وَٱسْتَغْفِرُوهُ ۗ

and ask His forgiveness

wa-is'taghfirūhu

وَوَيْلٌۭ

And woe

wawaylun

لِّلْمُشْرِكِينَ

to the polytheists

lil'mush'rikīna

٦

Say, [O Muḥammad], "I am only a man like you to whom it has been revealed that your god is but one God; so take a straight course to Him and seek His forgiveness." And woe to those who associate others with Allāh

— Saheeh International

ٱلَّذِينَ

Those who

alladhīna

لَا

(do) not

يُؤْتُونَ

give

yu'tūna

ٱلزَّكَوٰةَ

the zakah

l-zakata

وَهُم

and they

wahum

بِٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ

in the Hereafter

bil-ākhirati

هُمْ

they

hum

كَـٰفِرُونَ

(are) disbelievers

kāfirūna

٧

Those who do not give zakāh, and in the Hereafter they are disbelievers.

— Saheeh International

إِنَّ

Indeed

inna

ٱلَّذِينَ

those who

alladhīna

ءَامَنُوا۟

believe

āmanū

وَعَمِلُوا۟

and do

waʿamilū

ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ

righteous deeds

l-ṣāliḥāti

لَهُمْ

for them

lahum

أَجْرٌ

(is) a reward

ajrun

غَيْرُ

never ending

ghayru

مَمْنُونٍۢ

never ending

mamnūnin

٨

Indeed, those who believe and do righteous deeds - for them is a reward uninterrupted.

— Saheeh International

۞ قُلْ

Say

qul

أَئِنَّكُمْ

Do you indeed

a-innakum

لَتَكْفُرُونَ

[surely] disbelieve

latakfurūna

بِٱلَّذِى

in the One Who

bi-alladhī

خَلَقَ

created

khalaqa

ٱلْأَرْضَ

the earth

l-arḍa

فِى

in

يَوْمَيْنِ

two periods

yawmayni

وَتَجْعَلُونَ

and you set up

watajʿalūna

لَهُۥٓ

with Him

lahu

أَندَادًۭا ۚ

rivals

andādan

ذَٰلِكَ

That

dhālika

رَبُّ

(is the) Lord

rabbu

ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ

(of) the worlds

l-ʿālamīna

٩

Say, "Do you indeed disbelieve in He who created the earth in two days and attribute to Him equals? That is the Lord of the worlds."

— Saheeh International

وَجَعَلَ

And He placed

wajaʿala

فِيهَا

therein

fīhā

رَوَٰسِىَ

firmly-set mountains

rawāsiya

مِن

above it

min

فَوْقِهَا

above it

fawqihā

وَبَـٰرَكَ

and He blessed

wabāraka

فِيهَا

therein

fīhā

وَقَدَّرَ

and determined

waqaddara

فِيهَآ

therein

fīhā

أَقْوَٰتَهَا

its sustenance

aqwātahā

فِىٓ

in

أَرْبَعَةِ

four

arbaʿati

أَيَّامٍۢ

periods

ayyāmin

سَوَآءًۭ

equal

sawāan

لِّلسَّآئِلِينَ

for those who ask

lilssāilīna

١٠

And He placed on it [i.e., the earth] firmly set mountains over its surface, and He blessed it and determined therein its [creatures'] sustenance in four days without distinction1 - for [the information of] those who ask.

— Saheeh International

ثُمَّ

Then

thumma

ٱسْتَوَىٰٓ

He directed (Himself)

is'tawā

إِلَى

towards

ilā

ٱلسَّمَآءِ

the heaven

l-samāi

وَهِىَ

while it (was)

wahiya

دُخَانٌۭ

smoke

dukhānun

فَقَالَ

and He said

faqāla

لَهَا

to it

lahā

وَلِلْأَرْضِ

and to the earth

walil'arḍi

ٱئْتِيَا

Come both of you

i'tiyā

طَوْعًا

willingly

ṭawʿan

أَوْ

or

aw

كَرْهًۭا

unwillingly

karhan

قَالَتَآ

They both said

qālatā

أَتَيْنَا

We come

ataynā

طَآئِعِينَ

willingly

ṭāiʿīna

١١

Then He directed Himself1 to the heaven while it was smoke and said to it and to the earth, "Come [into being],2 willingly or by compulsion." They said, "We have come willingly."
