وَمَآ And whatever wamā you have been given ūtītum from min things shayin (is) an enjoyment famatāʿu (of the) life l-ḥayati (of) the world l-dun'yā and its adornment wazīnatuhā And what wamā (is) with ʿinda Allah l-lahi (is) better khayrun and more lasting wa-abqā So (will) not afalā you use intellect taʿqilūna
And whatever thing you [people] have been given - it is [only for] the enjoyment of worldly life and its adornment. And what is with Allāh is better and more lasting; so will you not use reason?
أَفَمَن Then is (he) whom afaman We have promised him waʿadnāhu a promise waʿdan good ḥasanan and he fahuwa (will) meet it lāqīhi like (the one) whom kaman We provided him mattaʿnāhu enjoyment matāʿa (of the) life l-ḥayati (of) the world l-dun'yā then thumma he huwa (on the) Day yawma (of) the Resurrection l-qiyāmati (will be) among mina those presented l-muḥ'ḍarīna
Then is he whom We have promised a good promise which he will meet [i.e., obtain] like he for whom We provided enjoyment of worldly life [but] then he is, on the Day of Resurrection, among those presented [for punishment in Hell]?
وَيَوْمَ And (the) Day wayawma He will call them yunādīhim and say fayaqūlu Where ayna (are) My partners shurakāiya whom alladhīna you used (to) kuntum claim tazʿumūna
And [warn of] the Day He will call them and say, "Where are My 'partners' which you used to claim?"
قَالَ (Will) say qāla those alladhīna (has) come true ḥaqqa against whom ʿalayhimu the Word l-qawlu Our Lord rabbanā These hāulāi (are) those whom alladhīna we led astray aghwaynā We led them astray aghwaynāhum as kamā we were astray ghawaynā We declare our innocence tabarranā before You ilayka Not mā they used (to) kānū worship us iyyānā worship us yaʿbudūna
Those upon whom the word1 will have come into effect will say, "Our Lord, these are the ones we led to error. We led them to error just as we were in error. We declare our disassociation [from them] to You. They did not used to worship [i.e., obey] us."2
وَقِيلَ And it will be said waqīla Call id'ʿū your partners shurakāakum And they will call them fadaʿawhum but not falam they will respond yastajībū to them lahum and they will see wara-awū the punishment l-ʿadhāba If only law [that] they annahum had been kānū guided yahtadūna
And it will be said, "Invoke your 'partners,'" and they will invoke them; but they will not respond to them, and they will see the punishment. If only they had followed guidance!
وَيَوْمَ And (the) Day wayawma He will call them yunādīhim and say fayaqūlu What mādhā did you answer ajabtumu the Messengers l-mur'salīna
And [mention] the Day He will call them and say, "What did you answer the messengers?"
فَعَمِيَتْ But (will) be obscure faʿamiyat to them ʿalayhimu the information l-anbāu that day yawma-idhin so they fahum will not ask one another lā will not ask one another yatasāalūna
But the information1 will be unapparent to them that Day, so they will not [be able to] ask one another.
فَأَمَّا But as for fa-ammā (him) who man repented tāba and believed waāmana and did waʿamila righteousness ṣāliḥan then perhaps faʿasā [that] an he will be yakūna of mina the successful ones l-muf'liḥīna
But as for one who had repented, believed, and done righteousness, it is expected [i.e., promised by Allāh] that he will be among the successful.
وَرَبُّكَ And your Lord warabbuka creates yakhluqu what mā He wills yashāu and chooses wayakhtāru Not mā they have kāna for them lahumu the choice l-khiyaratu Glory be sub'ḥāna (to) Allah l-lahi and High is He wataʿālā above what ʿammā they associate (with Him) yush'rikūna
And your Lord creates what He wills and chooses; not for them was the choice. Exalted is Allāh and high above what they associate with Him.
وَرَبُّكَ And your Lord warabbuka knows yaʿlamu what mā conceals tukinnu their breasts ṣudūruhum and what wamā they declare yuʿ'linūna
And your Lord knows what their breasts conceal and what they declare.
وَهُوَ And He wahuwa (is) Allah l-lahu (there is) no lā god ilāha but illā He huwa To Him lahu (are due) all praises l-ḥamdu in fī the first l-ūlā and the last wal-ākhirati And for Him walahu (is) the Decision l-ḥuk'mu and to Him wa-ilayhi you will be returned tur'jaʿūna
And He is Allāh; there is no deity except Him. To Him is [due all] praise in the first [life] and the Hereafter. And His is the [final] decision, and to Him you will be returned.
