وَإِذَا And when wa-idhā reach balagha the children l-aṭfālu among you minkumu the puberty l-ḥuluma then let them ask permission falyastadhinū as kamā asked permission is'tadhana those who alladhīna (were) before them min (were) before them qablihim Thus kadhālika Allah makes clear yubayyinu Allah makes clear l-lahu for you lakum His Verses āyātihi And Allah wal-lahu (is) All-Knower ʿalīmun All-Wise ḥakīmun
And when the children among you reach puberty, let them ask permission [at all times] as those before them have done. Thus does Allāh make clear to you His verses; and Allāh is Knowing and Wise.
وَٱلْقَوَٰعِدُ And postmenopausal wal-qawāʿidu among mina the women l-nisāi who allātī (do) not lā have desire yarjūna (for) marriage nikāḥan then not is falaysa on them ʿalayhinna any blame junāḥun that an they put aside yaḍaʿna their (outer) garments thiyābahunna not ghayra displaying mutabarrijātin their adornment bizīnatin And that wa-an they modestly refrain yastaʿfif'na (is) better khayrun for them lahunna And Allah wal-lahu (is) All-Hearer samīʿun All-Knower ʿalīmun
And women of post-menstrual age who have no desire for marriage - there is no blame upon them for putting aside their outer garments [but] not displaying adornment. But to modestly refrain [from that] is better for them. And Allāh is Hearing and Knowing.
لَّيْسَ Not is laysa on ʿalā the blind l-aʿmā any blame ḥarajun and not walā on ʿalā the lame l-aʿraji any blame ḥarajun and not walā on ʿalā the sick l-marīḍi any blame ḥarajun and not walā on ʿalā yourselves anfusikum that an you eat takulū from min your houses buyūtikum or aw houses buyūti (of) your fathers ābāikum or aw houses buyūti (of) your mothers ummahātikum or aw houses buyūti (of) your brothers ikh'wānikum or aw houses buyūti (of) your sisters akhawātikum or aw houses buyūti (of) your paternal uncles aʿmāmikum or aw houses buyūti (of) your paternal aunts ʿammātikum or aw houses buyūti (of) your maternal uncles akhwālikum or aw houses buyūti (of) your maternal aunts khālātikum or aw what mā you possess malaktum its keys mafātiḥahu or aw your friend ṣadīqikum Not is laysa on you ʿalaykum any blame junāḥun that an you eat takulū together jamīʿan or aw separately ashtātan But when fa-idhā you enter dakhaltum houses buyūtan then greet fasallimū [on] ʿalā yourselves anfusikum a greeting taḥiyyatan from min from ʿindi Allah l-lahi blessed mubārakatan (and) good ṭayyibatan Thus kadhālika Allah makes clear yubayyinu Allah makes clear l-lahu for you lakumu the Verses l-āyāti so that you may laʿallakum understand taʿqilūna
There is not upon the blind [any] constraint nor upon the lame constraint nor upon the ill constraint nor upon yourselves when you eat from your [own] houses or the houses of your fathers or the houses of your mothers or the houses of your brothers or the houses of your sisters or the houses of your father's brothers or the houses of your father's sisters or the houses of your mother's brothers or the houses of your mother's sisters or [from houses] whose keys you possess or [from the house] of your friend. There is no blame upon you whether you eat together or separately. But when you enter houses, give greetings of peace1 upon each other - a greeting from Allāh, blessed and good. Thus does Allāh make clear to you the verses [of ordinance] that you may understand.
