رِجَالٌۭ Men rijālun not lā distracts them tul'hīhim trade tijāratun and not walā sale bayʿun from ʿan (the) remembrance of Allah dhik'ri (the) remembrance of Allah l-lahi and (from) establishing wa-iqāmi the prayer l-ṣalati and giving waītāi zakah l-zakati They fear yakhāfūna a Day yawman will turn about tataqallabu therein fīhi the hearts l-qulūbu and the eyes wal-abṣāru
[Are] men whom neither commerce nor sale distracts from the remembrance of Allāh and performance of prayer and giving of zakāh. They fear a Day in which the hearts and eyes will [fearfully] turn about -
لِيَجْزِيَهُمُ That Allah may reward them liyajziyahumu That Allah may reward them l-lahu (with the) best aḥsana (of) what mā they did ʿamilū and increase them wayazīdahum from min His Bounty faḍlihi And Allah wal-lahu provides yarzuqu whom man He wills yashāu without bighayri measure ḥisābin
That Allāh may reward them [according to] the best of what they did and increase them from His bounty. And Allāh gives provision to whom He wills without account [i.e., limit].
وَٱلَّذِينَ But those who wa-alladhīna disbelieve kafarū their deeds aʿmāluhum (are) like a mirage kasarābin in a lowland biqīʿatin thinks it yaḥsabuhu the thirsty one l-ẓamānu (to be) water māan until ḥattā when idhā he comes to it jāahu not lam he finds it yajid'hu (to be) anything shayan but he finds wawajada Allah l-laha before him ʿindahu He will pay him in full fawaffāhu his due ḥisābahu And Allah wal-lahu (is) swift sarīʿu (in) the account l-ḥisābi
But those who disbelieved - their deeds are like a mirage in a lowland which a thirsty one thinks is water until, when he comes to it, he finds it is nothing but finds Allāh before him, and He will pay him in full his due; and Allāh is swift in account.
أَوْ Or aw (is) like (the) darkness[es] kaẓulumātin in fī a sea baḥrin deep lujjiyyin covers it yaghshāhu a wave mawjun on it min on it fawqihi a wave mawjun on it min on it fawqihi a cloud saḥābun darkness[es] ẓulumātun some of it baʿḍuhā on fawqa others baʿḍin When idhā he puts out akhraja his hand yadahu hardly lam hardly yakad he (can) see it yarāhā And (for) whom waman not lam Allah (has) made yajʿali Allah (has) made l-lahu for him lahu a light nūran then not famā for him lahu (is) any min light nūrin
Or [they are] like darknesses within an unfathomable sea which is covered by waves, upon which are waves, over which are clouds - darknesses, some of them upon others. When one puts out his hand [therein], he can hardly see it. And he to whom Allāh has not granted light - for him there is no light.
أَلَمْ Do not alam you see tara that anna Allah l-laha glorify yusabbiḥu Him lahu whoever man (is) in fī the heavens l-samāwāti and the earth wal-arḍi and the birds wal-ṭayru (with) wings outspread ṣāffātin Each one kullun verily qad knows ʿalima its prayer ṣalātahu and its glorification watasbīḥahu And Allah wal-lahu (is) All-Knower ʿalīmun of what bimā they do yafʿalūna
Do you not see that Allāh is exalted by whomever is within the heavens and the earth and [by] the birds with wings spread [in flight]? Each [of them] has known his [means of] prayer and exalting [Him], and Allāh is Knowing of what they do.
وَلِلَّهِ And to Allah (belongs) walillahi (the) dominion mul'ku (of) the heavens l-samāwāti and the earth wal-arḍi And to wa-ilā Allah l-lahi (is) the destination l-maṣīru
And to Allāh belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth, and to Allāh is the destination.
أَلَمْ Do not alam you see tara that anna Allah l-laha drives yuz'jī clouds saḥāban then thumma joins yu-allifu between them baynahu then thumma makes them yajʿaluhu (into) a mass rukāman then you see fatarā the rain l-wadqa come forth yakhruju from min their midst khilālihi And He sends down wayunazzilu from mina (the) sky l-samāi [from] min mountains jibālin within it fīhā [of] min (is) hail baradin and He strikes fayuṣību with it bihi whom man He wills yashāu and averts it wayaṣrifuhu from ʿan whom man He wills yashāu Nearly yakādu (the) flash sanā (of) its lighting barqihi takes away yadhhabu the sight bil-abṣāri
Do you not see that Allāh drives clouds? Then He brings them together; then He makes them into a mass, and you see the rain emerge from within it. And He sends down from the sky, mountains [of clouds] within which is hail, and He strikes with it whom He wills and averts it from whom He wills. The flash of its lightning almost takes away the eyesight.
