وَأَنكِحُوا۟ And marry wa-ankiḥū the single l-ayāmā among you minkum and the righteous wal-ṣāliḥīna among min your male slaves ʿibādikum and your female slaves wa-imāikum If in they are yakūnū poor fuqarāa Allah will enrich them yugh'nihimu Allah will enrich them l-lahu from min His Bounty faḍlihi And Allah wal-lahu (is) All-Encompassing wāsiʿun All-Knowing ʿalīmun
And marry the unmarried among you and the righteous among your male slaves and female slaves. If they should be poor, Allāh will enrich them from His bounty, and Allāh is all-Encompassing and Knowing.
وَلْيَسْتَعْفِفِ And let be chaste walyastaʿfifi those who alladhīna (do) not lā find yajidūna (means for) marriage nikāḥan until ḥattā Allah enriches them yugh'niyahumu Allah enriches them l-lahu from min His Bounty faḍlihi And those who wa-alladhīna seek yabtaghūna the writing l-kitāba from (those) whom mimmā possess malakat your right hands aymānukum then give them (the) writing fakātibūhum if in you know ʿalim'tum in them fīhim any good khayran and give them waātūhum from min the wealth of Allah māli the wealth of Allah l-lahi which alladhī He has given you ātākum And (do) not walā compel tuk'rihū your slave girls fatayātikum to ʿalā [the] prostitution l-bighāi if in they desire aradna chastity taḥaṣṣunan that you may seek litabtaghū temporary gain ʿaraḍa (of) the life l-ḥayati (of) the world l-dun'yā And whoever waman compels them yuk'rihhunna then indeed fa-inna Allah l-laha after min after baʿdi their compulsion ik'rāhihinna (is) Oft-Forgiving ghafūrun Most Merciful raḥīmun
But let them who find not [the means for] marriage abstain [from sexual relations] until Allāh enriches them from His bounty. And those who seek a contract [for eventual emancipation] from among whom your right hands possess1 - then make a contract with them if you know there is within them goodness and give them from the wealth of Allāh which He has given you. And do not compel your slave girls to prostitution, if they desire chastity, to seek [thereby] the temporary interests of worldly life. And if someone should compel them, then indeed, Allāh is [to them], after their compulsion, Forgiving and Merciful.
وَلَقَدْ And verily walaqad We have sent down anzalnā to you ilaykum Verses āyātin clear mubayyinātin and an example wamathalan of mina those who alladhīna passed away khalaw before you min before you qablikum and an admonition wamawʿiẓatan for those who fear (Allah) lil'muttaqīna
And We have certainly sent down to you distinct verses1 and examples from those who passed on before you and an admonition for those who fear Allāh.
۞ ٱللَّهُ Allah al-lahu (is the) Light nūru (of) the heavens l-samāwāti and the earth wal-arḍi (The) example mathalu (of) His Light nūrihi (is) like a niche kamish'katin in it fīhā (is) a lamp miṣ'bāḥun the lamp l-miṣ'bāḥu (is) in fī a glass zujājatin the glass l-zujājatu as if it were ka-annahā a star kawkabun brilliant durriyyun (which) is lit yūqadu from min a tree shajaratin blessed mubārakatin an olive zaytūnatin not lā (of the) east sharqiyyatin and not walā (of the) west gharbiyyatin would almost yakādu its oil zaytuhā glow yuḍīu even if walaw not lam touched it tamsashu fire nārun Light nūrun upon ʿalā Light nūrin Allah guides yahdī Allah guides l-lahu to His Light linūrihi whom man He wills yashāu And Allah sets forth wayaḍribu And Allah sets forth l-lahu the examples l-amthāla for the mankind lilnnāsi And Allah wal-lahu of every bikulli thing shayin (is) All-Knower ʿalīmun
Allāh is the Light1 of the heavens and the earth. The example of His light2 is like a niche within which is a lamp;3 the lamp is within glass, the glass as if it were a pearly [white] star lit from [the oil of] a blessed olive tree, neither of the east nor of the west, whose oil would almost glow even if untouched by fire. Light upon light. Allāh guides to His light whom He wills. And Allāh presents examples for the people, and Allāh is Knowing of all things.
فِى In fī houses buyūtin (which) Allah ordered adhina (which) Allah ordered l-lahu that an they be raised tur'faʿa and be mentioned wayudh'kara in them fīhā His name us'muhu Glorify yusabbiḥu [to] Him lahu in them fīhā in the mornings bil-ghuduwi and (in) the evenings wal-āṣāli
[Such niches are] in houses [i.e., mosques] which Allāh has ordered to be raised and that His name be mentioned [i.e., praised] therein; exalting Him within them in the morning and the evenings1
