فَإِن But if fa-in not lam you find tajidū in it fīhā anyone aḥadan then (do) not falā enter it tadkhulūhā until ḥattā permission has been given yu'dhana to you lakum And if wa-in it is said qīla to you lakumu Go back ir'jiʿū then go back fa-ir'jiʿū it huwa (is) purer azkā for you lakum And Allah wal-lahu of what bimā you do taʿmalūna (is) All-Knower ʿalīmun
And if you do not find anyone therein, do not enter them until permission has been given you. And if it is said to you, "Go back,"1 then go back; it is purer for you. And Allāh is Knowing of what you do.
لَّيْسَ Not laysa upon you ʿalaykum (is) any blame junāḥun that an you enter tadkhulū houses buyūtan not ghayra inhabited maskūnatin in it fīhā (is) a provision matāʿun for you lakum And Allah wal-lahu knows yaʿlamu what mā you reveal tub'dūna and what wamā you conceal taktumūna
There is no blame upon you for entering houses not inhabited in which there is convenience1 for you. And Allāh knows what you reveal and what you conceal.
قُل Say qul to the believing men lil'mu'minīna they should lower yaghuḍḍū their gaze min their gaze abṣārihim and they should guard wayaḥfaẓū their chastity furūjahum That dhālika (is) purer azkā for them lahum Indeed inna Allah l-laha (is) All-Aware khabīrun of what bimā they do yaṣnaʿūna
Tell the believing men to reduce [some] of their vision1 and guard their private parts.2 That is purer for them. Indeed, Allāh is [fully] Aware of what they do.
وَقُل And say waqul to the believing women lil'mu'mināti (that) they should lower yaghḍuḍ'na [of] min their gaze abṣārihinna and they should guard wayaḥfaẓna their chastity furūjahunna and not walā (to) display yub'dīna their adornment zīnatahunna except illā what mā is apparent ẓahara of it min'hā And let them draw walyaḍrib'na their head covers bikhumurihinna over ʿalā their bosoms juyūbihinna and not walā (to) display yub'dīna their adornment zīnatahunna except illā to their husbands libuʿūlatihinna or aw their fathers ābāihinna or aw fathers ābāi (of) their husbands buʿūlatihinna or aw their sons abnāihinna or aw sons abnāi (of) their husbands buʿūlatihinna or aw their brothers ikh'wānihinna or aw sons banī (of) their brothers ikh'wānihinna or aw sons banī (of) their sisters akhawātihinna or aw their women nisāihinna or aw what mā possess malakat their right hands aymānuhunna or awi the attendants l-tābiʿīna having no physical desire ghayri having no physical desire ulī having no physical desire l-ir'bati among mina [the] men l-rijāli or awi [the] children l-ṭif'li who alladhīna (are) not lam aware yaẓharū of ʿalā private aspects ʿawrāti (of) the women l-nisāi And not walā let them stamp yaḍrib'na their feet bi-arjulihinna to make known liyuʿ'lama what mā they conceal yukh'fīna of min their adornment zīnatihinna And turn watūbū to ilā Allah l-lahi altogether jamīʿan O believers ayyuha O believers l-mu'minūna So that you may laʿallakum succeed tuf'liḥūna
And tell the believing women to reduce [some] of their vision1 and guard their private parts and not expose their adornment2 except that which [necessarily] appears thereof3 and to wrap [a portion of] their headcovers over their chests and not expose their adornment [i.e., beauty] except to their husbands, their fathers, their husbands' fathers, their sons, their husbands' sons, their brothers, their brothers' sons, their sisters' sons, their women, that which their right hands possess [i.e., slaves], or those male attendants having no physical desire,4 or children who are not yet aware of the private aspects of women. And let them not stamp their feet to make known what they conceal of their adornment. And turn to Allāh in repentance, all of you, O believers, that you might succeed.
