كَذَٰلِكَ Thus kadhālika We relate naquṣṣu to you ʿalayka from min (the) news anbāi (of) what mā has preceded qad has preceded sabaqa And certainly waqad We have given you ātaynāka from min Us ladunnā a Reminder dhik'ran
Thus, [O Muḥammad], We relate to you from the news of what has preceded. And We have certainly given you from Us a message [i.e., the Qur’ān].
مَّنْ Whoever man turns away aʿraḍa from it ʿanhu then indeed, he fa-innahu will bear yaḥmilu (on the) Day yawma (of) Resurrection l-qiyāmati a burden wiz'ran
Whoever turns away from it - then indeed, he will bear on the Day of Resurrection a burden [i.e., great sin],
خَـٰلِدِينَ Abiding forever khālidīna in it fīhi and evil wasāa for them lahum (on the) Day yawma (of) the Resurrection l-qiyāmati (as) a load ḥim'lan
[Abiding] eternally therein,1 and evil it is for them on the Day of Resurrection as a load -
يَوْمَ (The) Day yawma will be blown yunfakhu in fī the Trumpet l-ṣūri and We will gather wanaḥshuru the criminals l-muj'rimīna that Day yawma-idhin blue-eyed zur'qan
The Day the Horn will be blown. And We will gather the criminals, that Day, blue-eyed.1
يَتَخَـٰفَتُونَ They are murmuring yatakhāfatūna among themselves baynahum Not in you remained labith'tum except (for) illā ten ʿashran
They will murmur among themselves, "You remained not but ten [days in the world]."
نَّحْنُ We naḥnu know best aʿlamu what bimā they will say yaqūlūna when idh will say yaqūlu (the) best of them amthaluhum (in) conduct ṭarīqatan Not in you remained labith'tum except (for) illā a day yawman
We are most knowing of what they say when the best of them in manner [i.e., wisdom or speech] will say, "You remained not but one day."
وَيَسْـَٔلُونَكَ And they ask you wayasalūnaka about ʿani the mountains l-jibāli so say faqul Will blast them yansifuhā my Lord rabbī (into) particles nasfan
And they ask you about the mountains, so say, "My Lord will blow them away with a blast.1
فَيَذَرُهَا Then He will leave it fayadharuhā a level qāʿan plain ṣafṣafan
And He will leave it [i.e., the earth] a level plain;
لَّا Not lā you will see tarā in it fīhā any crookedness ʿiwajan and not walā any curve amtan
You will not see therein a depression or an elevation."
يَوْمَئِذٍۢ On that Day yawma-idhin they will follow yattabiʿūna the caller l-dāʿiya no lā deviation ʿiwaja from it lahu And (will be) humbled wakhashaʿati the voices l-aṣwātu for the Most Gracious lilrraḥmāni so not falā you will hear tasmaʿu except illā a faint sound hamsan
That Day, they [i.e., everyone] will follow [the call of] the Caller1 [with] no deviation therefrom, and [all] voices will be stilled before the Most Merciful, so you will not hear except a whisper [of footsteps].
يَوْمَئِذٍۢ (On) that Day yawma-idhin not lā will benefit tanfaʿu the intercession l-shafāʿatu except illā (to) whom man has given permission adhina [to him] lahu the Most Gracious l-raḥmānu and He has accepted waraḍiya for him lahu a word qawlan
That Day, no intercession will benefit except [that of] one to whom the Most Merciful has given permission and has accepted his word.
يَعْلَمُ He knows yaʿlamu what mā (is) before them bayna (is) before them aydīhim and what wamā (is) behind them khalfahum while not walā they encompass yuḥīṭūna it bihi (in) knowledge ʿil'man
He [i.e., Allāh] knows what is [presently] before them and what will be after them,1 but they do not encompass it [i.e., what He knows] in knowledge.
۞ وَعَنَتِ And (will be) humbled waʿanati the faces l-wujūhu before the Ever-Living lil'ḥayyi the Self-Subsisting l-qayūmi And verily waqad will have failed khāba (he) who man carried ḥamala wrongdoing ẓul'man
And [all] faces will be humbled before the Ever-Living, the Self-Sustaining.1 And he will have failed who carries injustice.2
وَمَن But (he) who waman does yaʿmal of mina the righteous deeds l-ṣāliḥāti while he wahuwa (is) a believer mu'minun then not falā he will fear yakhāfu injustice ẓul'man and not walā deprivation haḍman
But he who does of righteous deeds while he is a believer - he will neither fear injustice nor deprivation.
وَكَذَٰلِكَ And thus wakadhālika We have sent it down anzalnāhu (the) Quran qur'ānan (in) Arabic ʿarabiyyan and We have explained waṣarrafnā in it fīhi of mina the warnings l-waʿīdi that they may laʿallahum fear yattaqūna or aw it may cause yuḥ'dithu [for] them lahum remembrance dhik'ran
And thus We have sent it down as an Arabic Qur’ān1 and have diversified therein the warnings that perhaps they will avoid [sin] or it would cause them remembrance.
