قَالَ He said qāla Its knowledge ʿil'muhā (is) with ʿinda my Lord rabbī in fī a Record kitābin Not lā errs yaḍillu my Lord rabbī and not walā forgets yansā
[Moses] said, "The knowledge thereof is with my Lord in a record. My Lord neither errs nor forgets."
ٱلَّذِى The One Who alladhī made jaʿala for you lakumu the earth l-arḍa (as) a bed mahdan and inserted wasalaka for you lakum therein fīhā ways subulan and sent down wa-anzala from mina the sky l-samāi water māan then We (have) brought forth fa-akhrajnā with it bihi pairs azwājan of min plants nabātin diverse shattā
[It is He] who has made for you the earth as a bed [spread out] and inserted therein for you roadways and sent down from the sky, rain and produced thereby categories of various plants.
كُلُوا۟ Eat kulū and pasture wa-ir'ʿaw your cattle anʿāmakum Indeed inna in fī that dhālika surely (are) Signs laāyātin for possessors li-ulī (of) intelligence l-nuhā
Eat [therefrom] and pasture your livestock. Indeed in that are signs for those of intelligence.
۞ مِنْهَا From it min'hā We created you khalaqnākum and in it wafīhā We will return you nuʿīdukum and from it wamin'hā We will bring you out nukh'rijukum time tāratan another ukh'rā
From it [i.e., the earth] We created you, and into it We will return you, and from it We will extract you another time.
وَلَقَدْ And verily walaqad We showed him araynāhu Our Signs āyātinā all of them kullahā but he denied fakadhaba and refused wa-abā
And We certainly showed him [i.e., Pharaoh] Our signs - all of them - but he denied and refused.
قَالَ He said qāla Have you come to us aji'tanā to drive us out litukh'rijanā of min our land arḍinā with your magic bisiḥ'rika O Musa yāmūsā
He said, "Have you come to us to drive us out of our land with your magic, O Moses?
فَلَنَأْتِيَنَّكَ Then we will surely produce for you falanatiyannaka magic bisiḥ'rin like it mith'lihi So make fa-ij'ʿal between us baynanā and between you wabaynaka an appointment mawʿidan not lā we will fail it nukh'lifuhu [we] naḥnu and not walā you anta (in) a place makānan even suwan
Then we will surely bring you magic like it, so make between us and you an appointment, which we will not fail to keep and neither will you, in a place assigned."1
قَالَ He said qāla Your appointment mawʿidukum (is on the) day yawmu (of) the festival l-zīnati and that wa-an will be assembled yuḥ'shara the people l-nāsu (at) forenoon ḍuḥan
[Moses] said, "Your appointment is on the day of the festival when the people assemble at mid-morning."1
فَتَوَلَّىٰ Then went away fatawallā Firaun fir'ʿawnu and put together fajamaʿa his plan kaydahu then thumma came atā
So Pharaoh went away, put together his plan, and then came [to Moses].
قَالَ Said qāla to them lahum Musa mūsā Woe to you waylakum (Do) not lā invent taftarū against ʿalā Allah l-lahi a lie kadhiban lest He will destroy you fayus'ḥitakum with a punishment biʿadhābin And verily waqad he failed khāba who mani invented if'tarā
Moses said to them [i.e., the magicians summoned by Pharaoh], "Woe to you! Do not invent a lie against Allāh or He will exterminate you with a punishment; and he has failed who invents [such falsehood]."
فَتَنَـٰزَعُوٓا۟ Then they disputed fatanāzaʿū (in) their affair amrahum among them baynahum and they kept secret wa-asarrū the private conversation l-najwā
So they disputed over their affair among themselves and concealed their private conversation.
قَالُوٓا۟ They said qālū Indeed in these two hādhāni [two] magicians lasāḥirāni they intend yurīdāni that an they drive you out yukh'rijākum of min your land arḍikum with their magic bisiḥ'rihimā and do away wayadhhabā with your way biṭarīqatikumu the exemplary l-muth'lā
They said, "Indeed, these are two magicians who want to drive you out of your land with their magic and do away with your most exemplary way [i.e., religion or tradition].
فَأَجْمِعُوا۟ So put together fa-ajmiʿū your plan kaydakum then thumma come i'tū (in) a line ṣaffan And verily waqad (will be) successful aflaḥa today l-yawma who mani overcomes is'taʿlā
So resolve upon your plan and then come [forward] in line. And he has succeeded today who overcomes."
