وَأَنَا And I wa-anā (have) chosen you ikh'tartuka so listen fa-is'tamiʿ to what limā is revealed yūḥā
And I have chosen you, so listen to what is revealed [to you].
إِنَّنِىٓ Indeed, [I] innanī I Am anā Allah l-lahu (There is) no lā god ilāha but illā I anā so worship Me fa-uʿ'bud'nī and establish wa-aqimi the prayer l-ṣalata for My remembrance lidhik'rī
Indeed, I am Allāh. There is no deity except Me, so worship Me and establish prayer for My remembrance.
إِنَّ Indeed inna the Hour l-sāʿata (will be) coming ātiyatun I almost akādu [I] hide it ukh'fīhā that may be recompensed lituj'zā every kullu soul nafsin for what bimā it strives tasʿā
Indeed, the Hour is coming - I almost conceal it1 - so that every soul may be recompensed according to that for which it strives.
فَلَا So (do) not falā (let) avert you yaṣuddannaka from it ʿanhā (one) who man (does) not lā believe yu'minu in it bihā and follows wa-ittabaʿa his desires hawāhu lest you perish fatardā
So do not let one avert you from it1 who does not believe in it and follows his desire, for you [then] would perish.
وَمَا And what wamā (is) that til'ka in your right hand biyamīnika O Musa yāmūsā
And what is that in your right hand, O Moses?"
قَالَ He said qāla It hiya (is) my staff ʿaṣāya I lean atawakka-u upon it ʿalayhā and I bring down leaves wa-ahushu with it bihā for ʿalā my sheep ghanamī and for me waliya in it fīhā (are) uses maāribu other ukh'rā
He said, "It is my staff; I lean upon it, and I bring down leaves for my sheep and I have therein other uses."
قَالَ He said qāla Throw it down alqihā O Musa yāmūsā
[Allāh] said, "Throw it down, O Moses."
فَأَلْقَىٰهَا So he threw it down fa-alqāhā and behold fa-idhā It hiya (was) a snake ḥayyatun moving swiftly tasʿā
So he threw it down, and thereupon it was a snake, moving swiftly.
قَالَ He said qāla Seize it khudh'hā and (do) not walā fear takhaf We will return it sanuʿīduhā (to) its state sīratahā the former l-ūlā
[Allāh] said, "Seize it and fear not; We will return it to its former condition.
وَٱضْمُمْ And draw near wa-uḍ'mum your hand yadaka to ilā your side janāḥika it will come out takhruj white bayḍāa without any min without any ghayri disease sūin (as) a sign āyatan another ukh'rā
And draw in your hand to your side; it will come out white without disease - another sign,
لِنُرِيَكَ That We may show you linuriyaka of min Our Signs āyātinā the Greatest l-kub'rā
That We may show you [some] of Our greater signs.
ٱذْهَبْ Go idh'hab to ilā Firaun fir'ʿawna Indeed, he innahu (has) transgressed ṭaghā
Go to Pharaoh. Indeed, he has transgressed [i.e., tyrannized]."
قَالَ He said qāla My Lord rabbi Expand ish'raḥ for me lī my breast ṣadrī
[Moses] said, "My Lord, expand [i.e., relax] for me my breast [with assurance]
وَٱحْلُلْ And untie wa-uḥ'lul (the) knot ʿuq'datan from min my tongue lisānī
And untie the knot from my tongue
يَفْقَهُوا۟ That they may understand yafqahū my speech qawlī
That they may understand my speech.
وَٱجْعَل And appoint wa-ij'ʿal for me lī a minister wazīran from min my family ahlī
And appoint for me a minister [i.e., assistant] from my family -
ٱشْدُدْ Reinforce ush'dud through him bihi my strength azrī
Increase through him my strength
وَأَشْرِكْهُ And make him share wa-ashrik'hu [in] fī my task amrī
And let him share my task
كَىْ That kay we may glorify You nusabbiḥaka much kathīran
That we may exalt You much
وَنَذْكُرَكَ And [we] remember You wanadhkuraka much kathīran
And remember You much.
إِنَّكَ Indeed, [You] innaka You are kunta of us binā All-Seer baṣīran
Indeed, You are of us ever Seeing."
قَالَ He said qāla Verily qad you are granted ūtīta your request su'laka O Musa yāmūsā
[Allāh] said, "You have been granted your request, O Moses.
وَلَقَدْ And indeed walaqad We conferred a favor manannā on you ʿalayka another time marratan another time ukh'rā
And We had already conferred favor upon you another time,
