لَهُۥ To Him lahu (is) supplication daʿwatu (of) the truth l-ḥaqi And those whom wa-alladhīna they invoke yadʿūna besides Him min besides Him dūnihi not lā they respond yastajībūna to them lahum with a thing bishayin except illā like one who stretches kabāsiṭi his hands kaffayhi towards ilā water l-māi to reach liyablugha his mouth fāhu but not wamā it huwa reaches it bibālighihi And not wamā (is) the supplication duʿāu (of) the disbelievers l-kāfirīna but illā in fī error ḍalālin
To Him [alone] is the supplication of truth. And those they call upon besides Him do not respond to them with a thing, except as one who stretches his hands toward water [from afar, calling it] to reach his mouth, but it will not reach it [thus].1 And the supplication of the disbelievers is not but in error [i.e., futility].
وَلِلَّهِ And to Allah walillahi prostrates yasjudu whoever man (is) in fī the heavens l-samāwāti and the earth wal-arḍi willingly ṭawʿan or unwillingly wakarhan and (so do) their shadows waẓilāluhum in the mornings bil-ghuduwi and in the afternoons wal-āṣāli
And to Allāh prostrates whoever is within the heavens and the earth, willingly or by compulsion, and their shadows [as well] in the mornings and the afternoons.
قُلْ Say qul Who man (is) the Lord rabbu (of) the heavens l-samāwāti and the earth wal-arḍi Say quli Allah l-lahu Say qul Have you then taken afa-ittakhadhtum from min besides Him dūnihi protectors awliyāa not lā they have power yamlikūna for themselves li-anfusihim (to) benefit nafʿan and not walā (to) harm ḍarran Say qul Is hal equal yastawī the blind l-aʿmā and the seeing wal-baṣīru Or am is hal equal tastawī the darkness[es] l-ẓulumātu and the light wal-nūru Or am they attribute jaʿalū to Allah lillahi partners shurakāa who created khalaqū like His creation kakhalqihi so that seemed alike fatashābaha the creation l-khalqu to them ʿalayhim Say quli Allah l-lahu (is) the Creator khāliqu of all kulli things shayin and He wahuwa (is) the One l-wāḥidu the Irresistible l-qahāru
Say, "Who is Lord of the heavens and earth?" Say, "Allāh." Say, "Have you then taken besides Him allies not possessing [even] for themselves any benefit or any harm?" Say, "Is the blind equivalent to the seeing? Or is darkness equivalent to light? Or have they attributed to Allāh partners who created like His creation so that the creation [of each] seemed similar to them?"1 Say, "Allāh is the Creator of all things, and He is the One, the Prevailing."2
أَنزَلَ He sends down anzala from mina the sky l-samāi water māan and flows fasālat the valleys awdiyatun according to their measure biqadarihā and carries fa-iḥ'tamala the torrent l-saylu a foam zabadan rising rābiyan And from what wamimmā they heat yūqidūna [on] it ʿalayhi in fī the fire l-nāri in order to make ib'tighāa ornaments ḥil'yatin or aw utensils matāʿin a foam zabadun like it mith'luhu Thus kadhālika sets forth yaḍribu Allah l-lahu the truth l-ḥaqa and the falsehood wal-bāṭila Then as for fa-ammā the foam l-zabadu it passes away fayadhhabu (as) scum jufāan and as for wa-ammā what mā benefits yanfaʿu the mankind l-nāsa remains fayamkuthu in fī the earth l-arḍi Thus kadhālika Allah sets forth yaḍribu Allah sets forth l-lahu the examples l-amthāla
He sends down from the sky, rain, and valleys flow according to their capacity, and the torrent carries a rising foam. And from that [ore] which they heat in the fire, desiring adornments and utensils, is a foam like it. Thus Allāh presents [the example of] truth and falsehood. As for the foam, it vanishes, [being] cast off; but as for that which benefits the people, it remains on the earth. Thus does Allāh present examples.
لِلَّذِينَ For those who lilladhīna responded is'tajābū to their Lord lirabbihimu (is) the bliss l-ḥus'nā And for those who wa-alladhīna (did) not lam respond yastajībū to Him lahu if law that anna they had lahum whatever mā (is) in fī the earth l-arḍi all jamīʿan and like of it wamith'lahu with it maʿahu surely they would offer ransom la-if'tadaw with it bihi Those ulāika for them lahum (is) a terrible sūu reckoning l-ḥisābi and their abode wamawāhum (is) Hell jahannamu and wretched wabi'sa (is) the resting place l-mihādu
For those who have responded to their Lord is the best [reward], but those who did not respond to Him - if they had all that is in the earth entirely and the like of it with it, they would [attempt to] ransom themselves thereby. Those will have the worst account, and their refuge is Hell, and wretched is the resting place.
