Ar-Ra`d

The Thunder

الرعد

الٓمٓر ۚ

Alif Laam Mim Ra

alif-lam-meem-ra

تِلْكَ

These

til'ka

ءَايَـٰتُ

(are) the Verses

āyātu

ٱلْكِتَـٰبِ ۗ

(of) the Book

l-kitābi

وَٱلَّذِىٓ

And that which

wa-alladhī

أُنزِلَ

has been revealed

unzila

إِلَيْكَ

to you

ilayka

مِن

from

min

رَّبِّكَ

your Lord

rabbika

ٱلْحَقُّ

(is) the truth

l-ḥaqu

وَلَـٰكِنَّ

but

walākinna

أَكْثَرَ

most

akthara

ٱلنَّاسِ

(of) the mankind

l-nāsi

لَا

(do) not

يُؤْمِنُونَ

believe

yu'minūna

١

Alif, Lām, Meem, Rā.1 These are the verses of the Book; and what has been revealed to you from your Lord is the truth, but most of the people do not believe.

— Saheeh International

ٱللَّهُ

Allah

al-lahu

ٱلَّذِى

(is) the One Who

alladhī

رَفَعَ

raised

rafaʿa

ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ

the heavens

l-samāwāti

بِغَيْرِ

without

bighayri

عَمَدٍۢ

pillars

ʿamadin

تَرَوْنَهَا ۖ

that you see

tarawnahā

ثُمَّ

then

thumma

ٱسْتَوَىٰ

He established

is'tawā

عَلَى

on

ʿalā

ٱلْعَرْشِ ۖ

the Throne

l-ʿarshi

وَسَخَّرَ

and subjected

wasakhara

ٱلشَّمْسَ

the sun

l-shamsa

وَٱلْقَمَرَ ۖ

and the moon

wal-qamara

كُلٌّۭ

each

kullun

يَجْرِى

running

yajrī

لِأَجَلٍۢ

for a term

li-ajalin

مُّسَمًّۭى ۚ

appointed

musamman

يُدَبِّرُ

He arranges

yudabbiru

ٱلْأَمْرَ

the matter

l-amra

يُفَصِّلُ

He details

yufaṣṣilu

ٱلْـَٔايَـٰتِ

the Signs

l-āyāti

لَعَلَّكُم

so that you may

laʿallakum

بِلِقَآءِ

in the meeting

biliqāi

رَبِّكُمْ

(with) your Lord

rabbikum

تُوقِنُونَ

believe with certainty

tūqinūna

٢

It is Allāh who erected the heavens without pillars that you [can] see; then He established Himself above the Throne1 and made subject2 the sun and the moon, each running [its course] for a specified term. He arranges [each] matter; He details the signs that you may, of the meeting with your Lord, be certain.

— Saheeh International

وَهُوَ

And He

wahuwa

ٱلَّذِى

(is) the One Who

alladhī

مَدَّ

spread

madda

ٱلْأَرْضَ

the earth

l-arḍa

وَجَعَلَ

and placed

wajaʿala

فِيهَا

in it

fīhā

رَوَٰسِىَ

firm mountains

rawāsiya

وَأَنْهَـٰرًۭا ۖ

and rivers

wa-anhāran

وَمِن

and from

wamin

كُلِّ

all

kulli

ٱلثَّمَرَٰتِ

(of) the fruits

l-thamarāti

جَعَلَ

He made

jaʿala

فِيهَا

in it

fīhā

زَوْجَيْنِ

pairs

zawjayni

ٱثْنَيْنِ ۖ

two

ith'nayni

يُغْشِى

He covers

yugh'shī

ٱلَّيْلَ

the night

al-layla

ٱلنَّهَارَ ۚ

(with) the day

l-nahāra

إِنَّ

Indeed

inna

فِى

in

ذَٰلِكَ

that

dhālika

لَـَٔايَـٰتٍۢ

surely (are) Signs

laāyātin

لِّقَوْمٍۢ

for a people

liqawmin

يَتَفَكَّرُونَ

who ponder

yatafakkarūna

٣

And it is He who spread the earth and placed therein firmly set mountains and rivers; and from all of the fruits He made therein two mates; He causes the night to cover the day. Indeed in that are signs for a people who give thought.

— Saheeh International

وَفِى

And in

wafī

ٱلْأَرْضِ

the earth

l-arḍi

قِطَعٌۭ

are tracks

qiṭaʿun

مُّتَجَـٰوِرَٰتٌۭ

neighboring

mutajāwirātun

وَجَنَّـٰتٌۭ

and gardens

wajannātun

مِّنْ

of

min

أَعْنَـٰبٍۢ

grapevines

aʿnābin

وَزَرْعٌۭ

and crops

wazarʿun

وَنَخِيلٌۭ

and date-palms

wanakhīlun

صِنْوَانٌۭ

trees (growing) from a single root

ṣin'wānun

وَغَيْرُ

and not

waghayru

صِنْوَانٍۢ

trees (growing) from a single root

ṣin'wānin

يُسْقَىٰ

watered

yus'qā

بِمَآءٍۢ

with water

bimāin

وَٰحِدٍۢ

one

wāḥidin

وَنُفَضِّلُ

but We cause to exceed

wanufaḍḍilu

بَعْضَهَا

some of them

baʿḍahā

عَلَىٰ

over

ʿalā

بَعْضٍۢ

others

baʿḍin

فِى

in

ٱلْأُكُلِ ۚ

the fruit

l-ukuli

إِنَّ

Indeed

inna

فِى

in

ذَٰلِكَ

that

dhālika

لَـَٔايَـٰتٍۢ

surely (are) Signs

laāyātin

لِّقَوْمٍۢ

for a people

liqawmin

يَعْقِلُونَ

who use reason

yaʿqilūna

٤

And within the land are neighboring plots and gardens of grapevines and crops and palm trees, [growing] several from a root or otherwise,1 watered with one water; but We make some of them exceed others in [quality of] fruit. Indeed in that are signs for a people who reason.

— Saheeh International

۞ وَإِن

And if

wa-in

تَعْجَبْ

you (are) astonished

taʿjab

فَعَجَبٌۭ

then astonishing

faʿajabun

قَوْلُهُمْ

(is) their saying

qawluhum

أَءِذَا

When

a-idhā

كُنَّا

we are

kunnā

تُرَٰبًا

dust

turāban

أَءِنَّا

will we

a-innā

لَفِى

(be) indeed, in

lafī

خَلْقٍۢ

a creation

khalqin

جَدِيدٍ ۗ

new

jadīdin

أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ

Those

ulāika

ٱلَّذِينَ

(are) the ones who

alladhīna

كَفَرُوا۟

disbelieved

kafarū

بِرَبِّهِمْ ۖ

in their Lord

birabbihim

وَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ

and those

wa-ulāika

ٱلْأَغْلَـٰلُ

the iron chains

l-aghlālu

فِىٓ

(will be) in

أَعْنَاقِهِمْ ۖ

their necks

aʿnāqihim

وَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ

those

wa-ulāika

أَصْحَـٰبُ

(are the) companions

aṣḥābu

ٱلنَّارِ ۖ

(of) the Fire

l-nāri

هُمْ

they

hum

فِيهَا

in it

fīhā

خَـٰلِدُونَ

(will) abide forever

khālidūna

٥

And if you are astonished,1 [O Muḥammad] - then astonishing is their saying, "When we are dust, will we indeed be [brought] into a new creation?" Those are the ones who have disbelieved in their Lord, and those will have shackles2 upon their necks, and those are the companions of the Fire; they will abide therein eternally.
