وَمَا

And not

wamā

تَسْـَٔلُهُمْ

you ask them

tasaluhum

عَلَيْهِ

for it

ʿalayhi

مِنْ

any

min

أَجْرٍ ۚ

reward

ajrin

إِنْ

Not

in

هُوَ

(is) it

huwa

إِلَّا

but

illā

ذِكْرٌۭ

a reminder

dhik'run

لِّلْعَـٰلَمِينَ

to the worlds

lil'ʿālamīna

١٠٤

And you do not ask of them for it any payment. It is not except a reminder to the worlds.

— Saheeh International

وَكَأَيِّن

And how many

waka-ayyin

مِّنْ

of

min

ءَايَةٍۢ

a Sign

āyatin

فِى

in

ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ

the heavens

l-samāwāti

وَٱلْأَرْضِ

and the earth

wal-arḍi

يَمُرُّونَ

they pass

yamurrūna

عَلَيْهَا

over it

ʿalayhā

وَهُمْ

while they

wahum

عَنْهَا

(are) from them

ʿanhā

مُعْرِضُونَ

the ones who turn away

muʿ'riḍūna

١٠٥

And how many a sign within the heavens and earth do they pass over while they, therefrom, are turning away.

— Saheeh International

وَمَا

And not

wamā

يُؤْمِنُ

believe

yu'minu

أَكْثَرُهُم

most of them

aktharuhum

بِٱللَّهِ

in Allah

bil-lahi

إِلَّا

except

illā

وَهُم

while they

wahum

مُّشْرِكُونَ

associate partners with Him

mush'rikūna

١٠٦

And most of them believe not in Allāh except while they associate others with Him.

— Saheeh International

أَفَأَمِنُوٓا۟

Do they then feel secure

afa-aminū

أَن

(against) that

an

تَأْتِيَهُمْ

comes to them

tatiyahum

غَـٰشِيَةٌۭ

an overwhelming

ghāshiyatun

مِّنْ

[of]

min

عَذَابِ

punishment

ʿadhābi

ٱللَّهِ

(of) Allah

l-lahi

أَوْ

or

aw

تَأْتِيَهُمُ

comes to them

tatiyahumu

ٱلسَّاعَةُ

the Hour

l-sāʿatu

بَغْتَةًۭ

suddenly

baghtatan

وَهُمْ

while they

wahum

لَا

(do) not

يَشْعُرُونَ

perceive

yashʿurūna

١٠٧

Then do they feel secure that there will not come to them an overwhelming [aspect] of the punishment of Allāh or that the Hour will not come upon them suddenly while they do not perceive?

— Saheeh International

قُلْ

Say

qul

هَـٰذِهِۦ

This

hādhihi

سَبِيلِىٓ

(is) my way

sabīlī

أَدْعُوٓا۟

I invite

adʿū

إِلَى

to

ilā

ٱللَّهِ ۚ

Allah

l-lahi

عَلَىٰ

with

ʿalā

بَصِيرَةٍ

insight

baṣīratin

أَنَا۠

I

anā

وَمَنِ

and whoever

wamani

ٱتَّبَعَنِى ۖ

follows me

ittabaʿanī

وَسُبْحَـٰنَ

And Glory be

wasub'ḥāna

ٱللَّهِ

(to) Allah

l-lahi

وَمَآ

and not

wamā

أَنَا۠

I am

anā

مِنَ

of

mina

ٱلْمُشْرِكِينَ

the polytheists

l-mush'rikīna

١٠٨

Say, "This is my way; I invite to Allāh with insight, I and those who follow me. And exalted is Allāh; and I am not of those who associate others with Him."

— Saheeh International

وَمَآ

And not

wamā

أَرْسَلْنَا

We sent

arsalnā

مِن

before you

min

قَبْلِكَ

before you

qablika

إِلَّا

but

illā

رِجَالًۭا

men

rijālan

نُّوحِىٓ

We revealed

nūḥī

إِلَيْهِم

to them

ilayhim

مِّنْ

from (among)

min

أَهْلِ

(the) people

ahli

ٱلْقُرَىٰٓ ۗ

(of) the townships

l-qurā

أَفَلَمْ

So have not

afalam

يَسِيرُوا۟

they traveled

yasīrū

فِى

in

ٱلْأَرْضِ

the earth

l-arḍi

فَيَنظُرُوا۟

and seen

fayanẓurū

كَيْفَ

how

kayfa

كَانَ

was

kāna

عَـٰقِبَةُ

(the) end

ʿāqibatu

ٱلَّذِينَ

(of) those who

alladhīna

مِن

(were) before them

min

قَبْلِهِمْ ۗ

(were) before them

qablihim

وَلَدَارُ

And surely the home

waladāru

ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ

(of) the Hereafter

l-ākhirati

خَيْرٌۭ

(is) best

khayrun

لِّلَّذِينَ

for those who

lilladhīna

ٱتَّقَوْا۟ ۗ

fear Allah

ittaqaw

أَفَلَا

Then will not

afalā

تَعْقِلُونَ

you use reason

taʿqilūna

١٠٩

And We sent not before you [as messengers] except men to whom We revealed from among the people of cities. So have they1 not traveled through the earth and observed how was the end of those before them? And the home of the Hereafter is best for those who fear Allāh; then will you not reason?

— Saheeh International

حَتَّىٰٓ

Until

ḥattā

إِذَا

when

idhā

ٱسْتَيْـَٔسَ

gave up hope

is'tayasa

ٱلرُّسُلُ

the Messengers

l-rusulu

وَظَنُّوٓا۟

and thought

waẓannū

أَنَّهُمْ

that they

annahum

قَدْ

certainly

qad

كُذِبُوا۟

were denied

kudhibū

جَآءَهُمْ

then came to them

jāahum

نَصْرُنَا

Our help

naṣrunā

فَنُجِّىَ

and was saved

fanujjiya

مَن

whom

man

نَّشَآءُ ۖ

We willed

nashāu

وَلَا

And not

walā

يُرَدُّ

(can) be repelled

yuraddu

بَأْسُنَا

Our punishment

basunā

عَنِ

from

ʿani

ٱلْقَوْمِ

the people

l-qawmi

ٱلْمُجْرِمِينَ

(who are) criminals

l-muj'rimīna

١١٠

[They continued] until, when the messengers despaired and were certain that they had been denied, there came to them Our victory, and whoever We willed was saved. And Our punishment cannot be repelled from the people who are criminals.

— Saheeh International

لَقَدْ

Verily

laqad

كَانَ

(there) is

kāna

فِى

in

قَصَصِهِمْ

their stories

qaṣaṣihim

عِبْرَةٌۭ

a lesson

ʿib'ratun

لِّأُو۟لِى

for men

li-ulī

ٱلْأَلْبَـٰبِ ۗ

(of) understanding

l-albābi

مَا

Not

كَانَ

(it) is

kāna

حَدِيثًۭا

a narration

ḥadīthan

يُفْتَرَىٰ

invented

yuf'tarā

وَلَـٰكِن

but

walākin

تَصْدِيقَ

a confirmation

taṣdīqa

ٱلَّذِى

(of that) which

alladhī

بَيْنَ

(was) before it

bayna

يَدَيْهِ

(was) before it

yadayhi

وَتَفْصِيلَ

and a detailed explanation

watafṣīla

كُلِّ

(of) all

kulli

شَىْءٍۢ

things

shayin

وَهُدًۭى

and a guidance

wahudan

وَرَحْمَةًۭ

and mercy

waraḥmatan

لِّقَوْمٍۢ

for a people

liqawmin

يُؤْمِنُونَ

who believe

yu'minūna

١١١

There was certainly in their stories a lesson for those of understanding. Never was it [i.e., the Qur’ān] a narration invented, but a confirmation of what was before it and a detailed explanation of all things and guidance and mercy for a people who believe.
