فَلَمَّآ Then when falammā [that] an arrived jāa the bearer of glad tidings l-bashīru he cast it alqāhu over ʿalā his face wajhihi then returned (his) sight fa-ir'tadda then returned (his) sight baṣīran He said qāla Did not alam I say aqul to you lakum indeed, I innī [I] know aʿlamu from mina Allah l-lahi what mā not lā you know taʿlamūna
And when the bearer of good tidings1 arrived, he cast it over his face, and he returned [once again] seeing. He said, "Did I not tell you that I know from Allāh that which you do not know?"
قَالُوا۟ They said qālū O our father yāabānā Ask forgiveness is'taghfir for us lanā (of) our sins dhunūbanā Indeed, we innā have been kunnā sinners khāṭiīna
They said, "O our father, ask for us forgiveness of our sins; indeed, we have been sinners."
قَالَ He said qāla Soon sawfa I will ask forgiveness astaghfiru for you lakum (from) my Lord rabbī Indeed, He innahu He huwa (is) the Oft-Forgiving l-ghafūru the Most Merciful l-raḥīmu
He said, "I will ask forgiveness for you from my Lord. Indeed, it is He who is the Forgiving, the Merciful."
فَلَمَّا Then when falammā they entered dakhalū upon ʿalā Yusuf yūsufa he took āwā to himself ilayhi his parents abawayhi and said waqāla Enter ud'khulū Egypt miṣ'ra if in Allah wills shāa Allah wills l-lahu safe āminīna
And when they entered upon Joseph, he took his parents to himself [i.e., embraced them] and said, "Enter Egypt, Allāh willing, safe [and secure]."
وَرَفَعَ And he raised warafaʿa his parents abawayhi upon ʿalā the throne l-ʿarshi and they fell down wakharrū to him lahu prostrate sujjadan And he said waqāla O my father yāabati This hādhā (is the) interpretation tawīlu (of) my dream ru'yāya (of) before min (of) before qablu Verily qad has made it jaʿalahā my Lord rabbī true ḥaqqan And indeed waqad He was good aḥsana to me bī when idh He took me out akhrajanī of mina the prison l-sij'ni and brought wajāa you bikum from mina the bedouin life l-badwi after min after baʿdi [that] an had caused discord nazagha the Shaitaan l-shayṭānu between me baynī and between wabayna my brothers ikh'watī Indeed inna my Lord rabbī (is) Most Subtle laṭīfun to what limā He wills yashāu Indeed, He innahu He huwa (is) the All-Knower l-ʿalīmu the All-Wise l-ḥakīmu
And he raised his parents upon the throne, and they bowed to him in prostration.1 And he said, "O my father, this is the explanation of my vision of before. My Lord has made it reality. And He was certainly good to me when He took me out of prison and brought you [here] from bedouin life after Satan had induced [estrangement] between me and my brothers. Indeed, my Lord is Subtle2 in what He wills. Indeed, it is He who is the Knowing, the Wise.
۞ رَبِّ My Lord rabbi indeed qad you have given me ātaytanī of mina the sovereignty l-mul'ki and taught me waʿallamtanī of min the interpretation tawīli of the events l-aḥādīthi Creator fāṭira (of) the heavens l-samāwāti and the earth wal-arḍi You anta (are) my Protector waliyyī in fī the world l-dun'yā and the Hereafter wal-ākhirati Cause me to die tawaffanī (as) a Muslim mus'liman and join me wa-alḥiq'nī with the righteous bil-ṣāliḥīna
My Lord, You have given me [something] of sovereignty and taught me of the interpretation of dreams. Creator of the heavens and earth, You are my protector in this world and the Hereafter. Cause me to die a Muslim and join me with the righteous."
ذَٰلِكَ That dhālika (is) from min the news anbāi (of) the unseen l-ghaybi which We reveal nūḥīhi to you ilayka And not wamā you were kunta with them ladayhim when idh they put together ajmaʿū their plan amrahum while they wahum (were) plotting yamkurūna
That is from the news of the unseen which We reveal, [O Muḥammad], to you. And you were not with them when they put together their plan while they conspired.
وَمَآ And not wamā most aktharu (of) the mankind l-nāsi even though walaw you desire ḥaraṣta (will be) believers bimu'minīna
And most of the people, although you strive [for it], are not believers.
