يَـٰبَنِىَّ

O my sons

yābaniyya

ٱذْهَبُوا۟

Go

idh'habū

فَتَحَسَّسُوا۟

and inquire

fataḥassasū

مِن

about

min

يُوسُفَ

Yusuf

yūsufa

وَأَخِيهِ

and his brother

wa-akhīhi

وَلَا

and not

walā

تَا۟يْـَٔسُوا۟

despair

tāy'asū

مِن

of

min

رَّوْحِ

(the) Mercy of Allah

rawḥi

ٱللَّهِ ۖ

(the) Mercy of Allah

l-lahi

إِنَّهُۥ

Indeed

innahu

لَا

none

يَا۟يْـَٔسُ

despairs

yāy'asu

مِن

of

min

رَّوْحِ

(the) Mercy of Allah

rawḥi

ٱللَّهِ

(the) Mercy of Allah

l-lahi

إِلَّا

except

illā

ٱلْقَوْمُ

the people

l-qawmu

ٱلْكَـٰفِرُونَ

the disbelievers

l-kāfirūna

٨٧

O my sons, go and find out about Joseph and his brother and despair not of relief from Allāh. Indeed, no one despairs of relief from Allāh except the disbelieving people."

— Saheeh International

فَلَمَّا

So when

falammā

دَخَلُوا۟

they entered

dakhalū

عَلَيْهِ

upon him

ʿalayhi

قَالُوا۟

they said

qālū

يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا

O Aziz

yāayyuhā

ٱلْعَزِيزُ

O Aziz

l-ʿazīzu

مَسَّنَا

Has touched us

massanā

وَأَهْلَنَا

and our family

wa-ahlanā

ٱلضُّرُّ

the adversity

l-ḍuru

وَجِئْنَا

and we have come

waji'nā

بِبِضَـٰعَةٍۢ

with goods

bibiḍāʿatin

مُّزْجَىٰةٍۢ

(of) little value

muz'jātin

فَأَوْفِ

but pay (in) full

fa-awfi

لَنَا

to us

lanā

ٱلْكَيْلَ

the measure

l-kayla

وَتَصَدَّقْ

and be charitable

wataṣaddaq

عَلَيْنَآ ۖ

to us

ʿalaynā

إِنَّ

Indeed

inna

ٱللَّهَ

Allah

l-laha

يَجْزِى

rewards

yajzī

ٱلْمُتَصَدِّقِينَ

the charitable

l-mutaṣadiqīna

٨٨

So when they entered upon him [i.e., Joseph], they said, "O ʿAzeez, adversity has touched us and our family, and we have come with goods poor in quality, but give us full measure and be charitable to us. Indeed, Allāh rewards the charitable."

— Saheeh International

قَالَ

He said

عَلِمْتُم

you know

ʿalim'tum

مَّا

what

فَعَلْتُم

you did

faʿaltum

بِيُوسُفَ

with Yusuf

biyūsufa

وَأَخِيهِ

and his brother

wa-akhīhi

إِذْ

when

idh

أَنتُمْ

you were

antum

جَـٰهِلُونَ

ignorant

jāhilūna

٨٩

He said, "Do you know what you did with Joseph and his brother when you were ignorant?"

— Saheeh International

قَالُوٓا۟

They said

qālū

أَءِنَّكَ

Are you indeed

a-innaka

لَأَنتَ

surely you

la-anta

يُوسُفُ ۖ

Yusuf

yūsufu

قَالَ

He said

qāla

أَنَا۠

I am

anā

يُوسُفُ

Yusuf

yūsufu

وَهَـٰذَآ

and this

wahādhā

أَخِى ۖ

(is) my brother

akhī

قَدْ

Indeed

qad

مَنَّ

Allah has been gracious

manna

ٱللَّهُ

Allah has been gracious

l-lahu

عَلَيْنَآ ۖ

to us

ʿalaynā

إِنَّهُۥ

Indeed, he

innahu

مَن

who

man

يَتَّقِ

fears Allah

yattaqi

وَيَصْبِرْ

and (is) patient

wayaṣbir

فَإِنَّ

then indeed

fa-inna

ٱللَّهَ

Allah

l-laha

لَا

(does) not

يُضِيعُ

let go waste

yuḍīʿu

أَجْرَ

(the) reward

ajra

ٱلْمُحْسِنِينَ

(of) the good-doers

l-muḥ'sinīna

٩٠

They said, "Are you indeed Joseph?" He said, "I am Joseph, and this is my brother. Allāh has certainly favored us. Indeed, he who fears Allāh and is patient, then indeed, Allāh does not allow to be lost the reward of those who do good."

— Saheeh International

قَالُوا۟

They said

qālū

تَٱللَّهِ

By Allah

tal-lahi

لَقَدْ

certainly

laqad

ءَاثَرَكَ

Allah has preferred you

ātharaka

ٱللَّهُ

Allah has preferred you

l-lahu

عَلَيْنَا

over us

ʿalaynā

وَإِن

and indeed

wa-in

كُنَّا

we have been

kunnā

لَخَـٰطِـِٔينَ

sinners

lakhāṭiīna

٩١

They said, "By Allāh, certainly has Allāh preferred you over us, and indeed, we have been sinners."

— Saheeh International

قَالَ

He said

qāla

لَا

No

تَثْرِيبَ

blame

tathrība

عَلَيْكُمُ

upon you

ʿalaykumu

ٱلْيَوْمَ ۖ

today

l-yawma

يَغْفِرُ

Allah will forgive

yaghfiru

ٱللَّهُ

Allah will forgive

l-lahu

لَكُمْ ۖ

you

lakum

وَهُوَ

and He

wahuwa

أَرْحَمُ

(is) the Most Merciful

arḥamu

ٱلرَّٰحِمِينَ

(of) those who show mercy

l-rāḥimīna

٩٢

He said, "No blame will there be upon you today. May Allāh forgive you; and He is the most merciful of the merciful.

— Saheeh International

ٱذْهَبُوا۟

Go

idh'habū

بِقَمِيصِى

with this shirt of mine

biqamīṣī

هَـٰذَا

with this shirt of mine

hādhā

فَأَلْقُوهُ

and cast it

fa-alqūhu

عَلَىٰ

over

ʿalā

وَجْهِ

(the) face

wajhi

أَبِى

(of) my father

abī

يَأْتِ

he will regain sight

yati

بَصِيرًۭا

he will regain sight

baṣīran

وَأْتُونِى

And bring to me

watūnī

بِأَهْلِكُمْ

your family

bi-ahlikum

أَجْمَعِينَ

all together

ajmaʿīna

٩٣

Take this, my shirt, and cast it over the face of my father; he will become seeing. And bring me your family, all together."

— Saheeh International

وَلَمَّا

And when

walammā

فَصَلَتِ

departed

faṣalati

ٱلْعِيرُ

the caravan

l-ʿīru

قَالَ

their father said

qāla

أَبُوهُمْ

their father said

abūhum

إِنِّى

Indeed, I

innī

لَأَجِدُ

[I] find

la-ajidu

رِيحَ

(the) smell

rīḥa

يُوسُفَ ۖ

(of) Yusuf

yūsufa

لَوْلَآ

if not

lawlā

أَن

that

an

تُفَنِّدُونِ

you think me weakened in mind

tufannidūni

٩٤

And when the caravan departed [from Egypt], their father said,1 "Indeed, I find the smell of Joseph [and would say that he was alive] if you did not think me weakened in mind."

— Saheeh International

قَالُوا۟

They said

qālū

تَٱللَّهِ

By Allah

tal-lahi

إِنَّكَ

indeed, you

innaka

لَفِى

surely (are) in

lafī

ضَلَـٰلِكَ

your error

ḍalālika

ٱلْقَدِيمِ

old

l-qadīmi

٩٥

They said, "By Allāh, indeed you are in your [same] old error."

— Saheeh International
