يَـٰبَنِىَّ O my sons yābaniyya Go idh'habū and inquire fataḥassasū about min Yusuf yūsufa and his brother wa-akhīhi and not walā despair tāy'asū of min (the) Mercy of Allah rawḥi (the) Mercy of Allah l-lahi Indeed innahu none lā despairs yāy'asu of min (the) Mercy of Allah rawḥi (the) Mercy of Allah l-lahi except illā the people l-qawmu the disbelievers l-kāfirūna
O my sons, go and find out about Joseph and his brother and despair not of relief from Allāh. Indeed, no one despairs of relief from Allāh except the disbelieving people."
فَلَمَّا So when falammā they entered dakhalū upon him ʿalayhi they said qālū O Aziz yāayyuhā O Aziz l-ʿazīzu Has touched us massanā and our family wa-ahlanā the adversity l-ḍuru and we have come waji'nā with goods bibiḍāʿatin (of) little value muz'jātin but pay (in) full fa-awfi to us lanā the measure l-kayla and be charitable wataṣaddaq to us ʿalaynā Indeed inna Allah l-laha rewards yajzī the charitable l-mutaṣadiqīna
So when they entered upon him [i.e., Joseph], they said, "O ʿAzeez, adversity has touched us and our family, and we have come with goods poor in quality, but give us full measure and be charitable to us. Indeed, Allāh rewards the charitable."
قَالَ He said qāla Do hal you know ʿalim'tum what mā you did faʿaltum with Yusuf biyūsufa and his brother wa-akhīhi when idh you were antum ignorant jāhilūna
He said, "Do you know what you did with Joseph and his brother when you were ignorant?"
قَالُوٓا۟ They said qālū Are you indeed a-innaka surely you la-anta Yusuf yūsufu He said qāla I am anā Yusuf yūsufu and this wahādhā (is) my brother akhī Indeed qad Allah has been gracious manna Allah has been gracious l-lahu to us ʿalaynā Indeed, he innahu who man fears Allah yattaqi and (is) patient wayaṣbir then indeed fa-inna Allah l-laha (does) not lā let go waste yuḍīʿu (the) reward ajra (of) the good-doers l-muḥ'sinīna
They said, "Are you indeed Joseph?" He said, "I am Joseph, and this is my brother. Allāh has certainly favored us. Indeed, he who fears Allāh and is patient, then indeed, Allāh does not allow to be lost the reward of those who do good."
قَالُوا۟ They said qālū By Allah tal-lahi certainly laqad Allah has preferred you ātharaka Allah has preferred you l-lahu over us ʿalaynā and indeed wa-in we have been kunnā sinners lakhāṭiīna
They said, "By Allāh, certainly has Allāh preferred you over us, and indeed, we have been sinners."
قَالَ He said qāla No lā blame tathrība upon you ʿalaykumu today l-yawma Allah will forgive yaghfiru Allah will forgive l-lahu you lakum and He wahuwa (is) the Most Merciful arḥamu (of) those who show mercy l-rāḥimīna
He said, "No blame will there be upon you today. May Allāh forgive you; and He is the most merciful of the merciful.
ٱذْهَبُوا۟ Go idh'habū with this shirt of mine biqamīṣī with this shirt of mine hādhā and cast it fa-alqūhu over ʿalā (the) face wajhi (of) my father abī he will regain sight yati he will regain sight baṣīran And bring to me watūnī your family bi-ahlikum all together ajmaʿīna
Take this, my shirt, and cast it over the face of my father; he will become seeing. And bring me your family, all together."
وَلَمَّا And when walammā departed faṣalati the caravan l-ʿīru their father said qāla their father said abūhum Indeed, I innī [I] find la-ajidu (the) smell rīḥa (of) Yusuf yūsufa if not lawlā that an you think me weakened in mind tufannidūni
And when the caravan departed [from Egypt], their father said,1 "Indeed, I find the smell of Joseph [and would say that he was alive] if you did not think me weakened in mind."
قَالُوا۟ They said qālū By Allah tal-lahi indeed, you innaka surely (are) in lafī your error ḍalālika old l-qadīmi
They said, "By Allāh, indeed you are in your [same] old error."
