قَالَ

He said

qāla

هَلْ

Should

hal

ءَامَنُكُمْ

I entrust you

āmanukum

عَلَيْهِ

with him

ʿalayhi

إِلَّا

except

illā

كَمَآ

as

kamā

أَمِنتُكُمْ

I entrusted you

amintukum

عَلَىٰٓ

with

ʿalā

أَخِيهِ

his brother

akhīhi

مِن

before

min

قَبْلُ ۖ

before

qablu

فَٱللَّهُ

But Allah

fal-lahu

خَيْرٌ

(is) the best

khayrun

حَـٰفِظًۭا ۖ

Guardian

ḥāfiẓan

وَهُوَ

and He

wahuwa

أَرْحَمُ

(is the) Most Merciful

arḥamu

ٱلرَّٰحِمِينَ

(of) the merciful

l-rāḥimīna

٦٤

He said, "Should I entrust you with him except [under coercion] as I entrusted you with his brother before? But Allāh is the best guardian, and He is the most merciful of the merciful."

— Saheeh International

وَلَمَّا

And when

walammā

فَتَحُوا۟

they opened

fataḥū

مَتَـٰعَهُمْ

their baggage

matāʿahum

وَجَدُوا۟

they found

wajadū

بِضَـٰعَتَهُمْ

their merchandise

biḍāʿatahum

رُدَّتْ

returned

ruddat

إِلَيْهِمْ ۖ

to them

ilayhim

قَالُوا۟

They said

qālū

يَـٰٓأَبَانَا

O our father

yāabānā

مَا

What

نَبْغِى ۖ

(could) we desire

nabghī

هَـٰذِهِۦ

This

hādhihi

بِضَـٰعَتُنَا

(is) our merchandise

biḍāʿatunā

رُدَّتْ

returned

ruddat

إِلَيْنَا ۖ

to us

ilaynā

وَنَمِيرُ

And we will get provision

wanamīru

أَهْلَنَا

(for) our family

ahlanā

وَنَحْفَظُ

and we will protect

wanaḥfaẓu

أَخَانَا

our brother

akhānā

وَنَزْدَادُ

and get an increase

wanazdādu

كَيْلَ

measure

kayla

بَعِيرٍۢ ۖ

(of) a camel's (load)

baʿīrin

ذَٰلِكَ

That

dhālika

كَيْلٌۭ

(is) a measurement

kaylun

يَسِيرٌۭ

easy

yasīrun

٦٥

And when they opened their baggage, they found their merchandise returned to them. They said, "O our father, what [more] could we desire? This is our merchandise returned to us. And we will obtain supplies [i.e., food] for our family and protect our brother and obtain an increase of a camel's load; that is an easy measurement."1

— Saheeh International

قَالَ

He said

Never

أُرْسِلَهُۥ

will I send him

ur'silahu

مَعَكُمْ

with you

maʿakum

حَتَّىٰ

until

ḥattā

تُؤْتُونِ

you give to me

tu'tūni

مَوْثِقًۭا

a promise

mawthiqan

مِّنَ

by

mina

ٱللَّهِ

Allah

l-lahi

لَتَأْتُنَّنِى

that surely you will bring him to me

latatunnanī

بِهِۦٓ

that surely you will bring him to me

bihi

إِلَّآ

unless

illā

أَن

that

an

يُحَاطَ

you are surrounded

yuḥāṭa

بِكُمْ ۖ

you are surrounded

bikum

فَلَمَّآ

And when

falammā

ءَاتَوْهُ

they had given him

ātawhu

مَوْثِقَهُمْ

their promise

mawthiqahum

قَالَ

he said

qāla

ٱللَّهُ

Allah

l-lahu

عَلَىٰ

over

ʿalā

مَا

what

نَقُولُ

we say

naqūlu

وَكِيلٌۭ

(is) a Guardian

wakīlun

٦٦

[Jacob] said, "Never will I send him with you until you give me a promise [i.e., oath] by Allāh that you will bring him [back] to me, unless you should be surrounded [i.e., overcome by enemies]." And when they had given their promise, he said, "Allāh, over what we say, is Entrusted."1

— Saheeh International

وَقَالَ

And he said

waqāla

يَـٰبَنِىَّ

O my sons

yābaniyya

لَا

(Do) not

تَدْخُلُوا۟

enter

tadkhulū

مِنۢ

from

min

بَابٍۢ

one gate

bābin

وَٰحِدٍۢ

one gate

wāḥidin

وَٱدْخُلُوا۟

but enter

wa-ud'khulū

مِنْ

from

min

أَبْوَٰبٍۢ

gates

abwābin

مُّتَفَرِّقَةٍۢ ۖ

different

mutafarriqatin

وَمَآ

And not

wamā

أُغْنِى

I can avail

ugh'nī

عَنكُم

you

ʿankum

مِّنَ

against

mina

ٱللَّهِ

Allah

l-lahi

مِن

any

min

شَىْءٍ ۖ

thing

shayin

إِنِ

Not

ini

ٱلْحُكْمُ

(is) the decision

l-ḥuk'mu

إِلَّا

except

illā

لِلَّهِ ۖ

with Allah

lillahi

عَلَيْهِ

upon Him

ʿalayhi

تَوَكَّلْتُ ۖ

I put my trust

tawakkaltu

وَعَلَيْهِ

and upon Him

waʿalayhi

فَلْيَتَوَكَّلِ

let put (their) trust

falyatawakkali

ٱلْمُتَوَكِّلُونَ

the ones who put trust

l-mutawakilūna

٦٧

And he said, "O my sons, do not enter from one gate but enter from different gates; and I cannot avail you against [the decree of] Allāh at all. The decision is only for Allāh; upon Him I have relied, and upon Him let those who would rely [indeed] rely."

— Saheeh International

وَلَمَّا

And when

walammā

دَخَلُوا۟

they entered

أَبُوهُم

their father

مَّا

كَانَ

ٱللَّهِ

Allah

l-lahi

شَىْءٍ

إِلَّا

illā

حَاجَةًۭ

(it was) a need

ḥājatan

فِى

نَفْسِ

Yaqub's soul

nafsi

يَعْقُوبَ

Yaqub's soul

yaʿqūba

قَضَىٰهَا ۚ

which he carried out

qaḍāhā

وَإِنَّهُۥ

And indeed, he

wa-innahu

لَذُو

(was) a possessor

ladhū

عِلْمٍۢ

(of) knowledge

ʿil'min

لِّمَا

because

limā

عَلَّمْنَـٰهُ

We had taught him

ʿallamnāhu

وَلَـٰكِنَّ

but

walākinna

أَكْثَرَ

most

akthara

ٱلنَّاسِ

(of) the people

l-nāsi

لَا

(do) not

يَعْلَمُونَ

know

yaʿlamūna

٦٨

And when they entered from where their father had ordered them, it did not avail them against Allāh at all except [it was] a need [i.e., concern] within the soul of Jacob, which he satisfied. And indeed, he was a possessor of knowledge because of what We had taught him, but most of the people do not know.

— Saheeh International

وَلَمَّا

And when

walammā

دَخَلُوا۟

they entered

dakhalū

عَلَىٰ

upon

ʿalā

يُوسُفَ

Yusuf

yūsufa

ءَاوَىٰٓ

he took

āwā

إِلَيْهِ

to himself

ilayhi

أَخَاهُ ۖ

his brother

akhāhu

قَالَ

He said

qāla

إِنِّىٓ

Indeed, I

innī

أَنَا۠

[I] am

anā

أَخُوكَ

your brother

akhūka

فَلَا

so (do) not

falā

تَبْتَئِسْ

grieve

tabta-is

بِمَا

for what

bimā

كَانُوا۟

they used (to)

kānū

يَعْمَلُونَ

do

yaʿmalūna

٦٩

And when they entered upon Joseph, he took his brother to himself; he said, "Indeed, I am your brother, so do not despair over what they used to do [to me]."

— Saheeh International
