فَلَوْلَا

So why not

falawlā

كَانَتْ

was

kānat

قَرْيَةٌ

any town

qaryatun

ءَامَنَتْ

that believed

āmanat

فَنَفَعَهَآ

and benefited it

fanafaʿahā

إِيمَـٰنُهَآ

its faith

īmānuhā

إِلَّا

except

illā

قَوْمَ

the people

qawma

يُونُسَ

(of) Yunus

yūnusa

لَمَّآ

When

lammā

ءَامَنُوا۟

they believed

āmanū

كَشَفْنَا

We removed

kashafnā

عَنْهُمْ

from them

ʿanhum

عَذَابَ

(the) punishment

ʿadhāba

ٱلْخِزْىِ

(of) the disgrace

l-khiz'yi

فِى

in

ٱلْحَيَوٰةِ

the life

l-ḥayati

ٱلدُّنْيَا

of the world

l-dun'yā

وَمَتَّعْنَـٰهُمْ

and We granted them enjoyment

wamattaʿnāhum

إِلَىٰ

for

ilā

حِينٍۢ

a time

ḥīnin

٩٨

Then has there not been a [single] city that believed so its faith benefited it except the people of Jonah? When they believed, We removed from them the punishment of disgrace in worldly life and gave them enjoyment [i.e., provision] for a time.

— Saheeh International

وَلَوْ

And if

walaw

شَآءَ

(had) willed

shāa

رَبُّكَ

your Lord

rabbuka

لَـَٔامَنَ

surely, (would) have believed

laāmana

مَن

who

man

فِى

(are) in

ٱلْأَرْضِ

the earth

l-arḍi

كُلُّهُمْ

all of them

kulluhum

جَمِيعًا ۚ

together

jamīʿan

أَفَأَنتَ

Then, will you

afa-anta

تُكْرِهُ

compel

tuk'rihu

ٱلنَّاسَ

the mankind

l-nāsa

حَتَّىٰ

until

ḥattā

يَكُونُوا۟

they become

yakūnū

مُؤْمِنِينَ

believers

mu'minīna

٩٩

And had your Lord willed, those on earth would have believed - all of them entirely. Then, [O Muḥammad], would you compel the people in order that they become believers?

— Saheeh International

وَمَا

And not

wamā

كَانَ

is

kāna

لِنَفْسٍ

for a soul

linafsin

أَن

to

an

تُؤْمِنَ

believe

tu'mina

إِلَّا

except

illā

بِإِذْنِ

by (the) permission

bi-idh'ni

ٱللَّهِ ۚ

(of) Allah

l-lahi

وَيَجْعَلُ

And He will place

wayajʿalu

ٱلرِّجْسَ

the wrath

l-rij'sa

عَلَى

on

ʿalā

ٱلَّذِينَ

those who

alladhīna

لَا

(do) not

يَعْقِلُونَ

use reason

yaʿqilūna

١٠٠

And it is not for a soul [i.e., anyone] to believe except by permission of Allāh, and He will place defilement1 upon those who will not use reason.

— Saheeh International

قُلِ

Say

quli

ٱنظُرُوا۟

See

unẓurū

مَاذَا

what

mādhā

فِى

(is) in

ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ

the heavens

l-samāwāti

وَٱلْأَرْضِ ۚ

and the earth

wal-arḍi

وَمَا

But not

wamā

تُغْنِى

will avail

tugh'nī

ٱلْـَٔايَـٰتُ

the Signs

l-āyātu

وَٱلنُّذُرُ

and the warners

wal-nudhuru

عَن

to

ʿan

قَوْمٍۢ

a people

qawmin

لَّا

(who do) not

يُؤْمِنُونَ

believe

yu'minūna

١٠١

Say, "Observe what is in the heavens and the earth." But of no avail will be signs or warners to a people who do not believe.

— Saheeh International

فَهَلْ

Then do

fahal

يَنتَظِرُونَ

they wait

yantaẓirūna

إِلَّا

except

illā

مِثْلَ

like

mith'la

أَيَّامِ

the days

ayyāmi

ٱلَّذِينَ

(of) those who

alladhīna

خَلَوْا۟

passed away

khalaw

مِن

before them

min

قَبْلِهِمْ ۚ

before them

qablihim

قُلْ

Say

qul

فَٱنتَظِرُوٓا۟

Then wait

fa-intaẓirū

إِنِّى

indeed, I (am)

innī

مَعَكُم

with you

maʿakum

مِّنَ

among

mina

ٱلْمُنتَظِرِينَ

the ones who wait

l-muntaẓirīna

١٠٢

So do they wait except for like [what occurred in] the days of those who passed on before them? Say, "Then wait; indeed, I am with you among those who wait."

— Saheeh International

ثُمَّ

Then

thumma

نُنَجِّى

We will save

nunajjī

رُسُلَنَا

Our Messengers

rusulanā

وَٱلَّذِينَ

and those who

wa-alladhīna

ءَامَنُوا۟ ۚ

believe

āmanū

كَذَٰلِكَ

Thus

kadhālika

حَقًّا

(it is) an obligation

ḥaqqan

عَلَيْنَا

upon Us

ʿalaynā

نُنجِ

(that) We save

nunji

ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ

the believers

l-mu'minīna

١٠٣

Then We will save Our messengers and those who have believed. Thus, it is an obligation upon Us that We save the believers.1

— Saheeh International

قُلْ

Say

qul

يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا

O mankind

yāayyuhā

ٱلنَّاسُ

O mankind

l-nāsu

إِن

If

in

كُنتُمْ

you are

kuntum

فِى

in

شَكٍّۢ

doubt

shakkin

مِّن

of

min

دِينِى

my religion

dīnī

فَلَآ

then not

falā

أَعْبُدُ

I worship

aʿbudu

ٱلَّذِينَ

those whom

alladhīna

تَعْبُدُونَ

you worship

taʿbudūna

مِن

besides Allah

min

دُونِ

besides Allah

dūni

ٱللَّهِ

besides Allah

l-lahi

وَلَـٰكِنْ

but

walākin

أَعْبُدُ

I worship

aʿbudu

ٱللَّهَ

Allah

l-laha

ٱلَّذِى

the One Who

alladhī

يَتَوَفَّىٰكُمْ ۖ

causes you to die

yatawaffākum

وَأُمِرْتُ

And I am commanded

wa-umir'tu

أَنْ

that

an

أَكُونَ

I be

akūna

مِنَ

of

mina

ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ

the believers

l-mu'minīna

١٠٤

Say, [O Muḥammad], "O people, if you are in doubt as to my religion - then I do not worship those which you worship besides Allāh; but I worship Allāh, who causes your death. And I have been commanded to be of the believers

— Saheeh International

وَأَنْ

And that

wa-an

أَقِمْ

Direct

aqim

وَجْهَكَ

your face

wajhaka

لِلدِّينِ

to the religion

lilddīni

حَنِيفًۭا

upright

ḥanīfan

وَلَا

and (do) not

walā

تَكُونَنَّ

be

takūnanna

مِنَ

of

mina

ٱلْمُشْرِكِينَ

the polytheists

l-mush'rikīna

١٠٥

And [commanded], 'Direct your face [i.e., self] toward the religion, inclining to truth, and never be of those who associate others with Allāh;

— Saheeh International

وَلَا

And (do) not

walā

تَدْعُ

invoke

tadʿu

مِن

besides Allah

min

دُونِ

besides Allah

dūni

ٱللَّهِ

besides Allah

l-lahi

مَا

what

لَا

(will) not

يَنفَعُكَ

benefit you

yanfaʿuka

وَلَا

and not

walā

يَضُرُّكَ ۖ

harm you

yaḍurruka

فَإِن

But if

fa-in

فَعَلْتَ

you did so

faʿalta

فَإِنَّكَ

indeed, you

fa-innaka

إِذًۭا

then (will be)

idhan

مِّنَ

of

mina

ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ

the wrongdoers

l-ẓālimīna

١٠٦

And do not invoke1 besides Allāh that which neither benefits you nor harms you, for if you did, then indeed you would be of the wrongdoers.'"2

— Saheeh International
