وَقَالَ And Firaun said waqāla And Firaun said fir'ʿawnu Bring to me i'tūnī every bikulli magician sāḥirin learned ʿalīmin
And Pharaoh said, "Bring to me every learned magician."
فَلَمَّا So when falammā came jāa the magicians l-saḥaratu said qāla to them lahum Musa mūsā Throw alqū whatever mā you antum (wish to) throw mul'qūna
So when the magicians came, Moses said to them, "Throw down whatever you will throw."
فَلَمَّآ Then when falammā they (had) thrown alqaw Musa said qāla Musa said mūsā What mā you have brought ji'tum [it] bihi (is) the magic l-siḥ'ru Indeed inna Allah l-laha will nullify it sayub'ṭiluhu Indeed inna Allah l-laha (does) not lā amend yuṣ'liḥu the work ʿamala (of) the corrupters l-muf'sidīna
And when they had thrown, Moses said, "What you have brought is [only] magic. Indeed, Allāh will expose its worthlessness. Indeed, Allāh does not amend the work of corrupters.
وَيُحِقُّ And Allah will establish wayuḥiqqu And Allah will establish l-lahu the truth l-ḥaqa by His words bikalimātihi even if walaw dislike it kariha the criminals l-muj'rimūna
And Allāh will establish the truth by His words, even if the criminals dislike it."
فَمَآ But none famā believed āmana Musa limūsā except illā (the) offspring dhurriyyatun among min his people qawmihi for ʿalā fear khawfin of min Firaun fir'ʿawna and their chiefs wamala-ihim lest an they persecute them yaftinahum And indeed wa-inna Firaun fir'ʿawna (was) a tyrant laʿālin in fī the earth l-arḍi and indeed, he wa-innahu (was) of lamina the ones who commit excesses l-mus'rifīna
But no one believed Moses, except [some] offspring [i.e., youths] among his people, for fear of Pharaoh and his establishment that they would persecute them. And indeed, Pharaoh was haughty within the land, and indeed, he was of the transgressors.
وَقَالَ And Musa said waqāla And Musa said mūsā O my people yāqawmi If in you have kuntum believed āmantum in Allah bil-lahi then on Him faʿalayhi put your trust tawakkalū if in you are kuntum Muslims mus'limīna
And Moses said, "O my people, if you have believed in Allāh, then rely upon Him, if you should be Muslims [i.e., submitting to Him]."
فَقَالُوا۟ Then they said faqālū Upon ʿalā Allah l-lahi we put our trust tawakkalnā Our Lord rabbanā (Do) not lā make us tajʿalnā a trial fit'natan for the people lil'qawmi the wrongdoers l-ẓālimīna
So they said, "Upon Allāh do we rely. Our Lord, make us not [objects of] trial for the wrongdoing people
وَنَجِّنَا And save us wanajjinā by Your Mercy biraḥmatika from mina the people l-qawmi the disbelievers l-kāfirīna
And save us by Your mercy from the disbelieving people."
وَأَوْحَيْنَآ And We inspired wa-awḥaynā to ilā Musa mūsā and his brother wa-akhīhi that an Settle tabawwaā your people liqawmikumā in Egypt bimiṣ'ra (in) houses buyūtan and make wa-ij'ʿalū your houses buyūtakum (as) places of worship qib'latan and establish wa-aqīmū the prayer l-ṣalata And give glad tidings wabashiri (to) the believers l-mu'minīna
And We inspired to Moses and his brother, "Settle your people in Egypt in houses and make your houses [facing the] qiblah1 and establish prayer and give good tidings to the believers."
وَقَالَ And Musa said waqāla And Musa said mūsā Our Lord rabbanā Indeed, You innaka have given ātayta Firaun fir'ʿawna and his chiefs wamala-ahu splendor zīnatan and wealth wa-amwālan in fī the life l-ḥayati (of) the world l-dun'yā Our Lord rabbanā That they may lead astray liyuḍillū from ʿan Your way sabīlika Our Lord rabbanā Destroy iṭ'mis [on] ʿalā their wealth amwālihim and harden wa-ush'dud [on] ʿalā their hearts qulūbihim so (that) not falā they believe yu'minū until ḥattā they see yarawū the punishment l-ʿadhāba the painful l-alīma
And Moses said, "Our Lord, indeed You have given Pharaoh and his establishment splendor and wealth in the worldly life, our Lord, that they may lead [men] astray from Your way. Our Lord, obliterate their wealth and harden their hearts so that they will not believe until they see the painful punishment."
