وَلَقَدْ And certainly walaqad We have created dharanā for Hell lijahannama many kathīran of mina the jinn l-jini and men wal-insi For them lahum (are) hearts qulūbun (but) not lā they understand yafqahūna with them bihā and for them walahum (are) eyes aʿyunun (but) not lā they see yub'ṣirūna with them bihā and for them walahum (are) ears ādhānun (but) not lā they hear yasmaʿūna with them bihā Those ulāika (are) like cattle kal-anʿāmi nay bal they hum (are) more astray aḍallu Those ulāika they humu (are) the heedless l-ghāfilūna
And We have certainly created for Hell many of the jinn and mankind. They have hearts with which they do not understand, they have eyes with which they do not see, and they have ears with which they do not hear. Those are like livestock; rather, they are more astray.1 It is they who are the heedless.
وَلِلَّهِ And for Allah walillahi (are) the names l-asmāu the most beautiful l-ḥus'nā so invoke Him fa-id'ʿūhu by them bihā And leave wadharū those who alladhīna deviate yul'ḥidūna concerning fī His names asmāihi They will be recompensed sayuj'zawna for what mā they used to kānū do yaʿmalūna
And to Allāh belong the best names, so invoke Him by them. And leave [the company of] those who practice deviation concerning His names.1 They will be recompensed for what they have been doing.
وَمِمَّنْ And of (those) whom wamimman We have created khalaqnā (is) a nation ummatun who guides yahdūna with the truth bil-ḥaqi and thereby wabihi they establish justice yaʿdilūna
And among those We created is a community1 which guides by truth and thereby establishes justice.
وَٱلَّذِينَ But those who wa-alladhīna denied kadhabū Our Signs biāyātinā We will gradually lead them sanastadrijuhum from min where ḥaythu not lā they know yaʿlamūna
But those who deny Our signs - We will progressively lead them [to destruction]1 from where they do not know.
وَأُمْلِى And I will give respite wa-um'lī to them lahum Indeed inna My plan kaydī (is) firm matīnun
And I will give them time. Indeed, My plan is firm.
أَوَلَمْ Do not awalam they reflect yatafakkarū Not mā in their companion biṣāḥibihim [of] min (is) any madness jinnatin Not in he huwa (is) but illā a warner nadhīrun clear mubīnun
Then do they not give thought? There is in their companion [i.e., Muḥammad (ﷺ)] no madness. He is not but a clear warner.
أَوَلَمْ Do not awalam they look yanẓurū in fī (the) dominion malakūti (of) the heavens l-samāwāti and the earth wal-arḍi and what wamā has (been) created khalaqa (by) Allah l-lahu of min (every)thing shayin and that wa-an perhaps ʿasā [that] an has yakūna verily qadi come near iq'taraba their term ajaluhum So in what fabi-ayyi statement ḥadīthin after this baʿdahu will they believe yu'minūna
Do they not look into the realm of the heavens and the earth and everything that Allāh has created and [think] that perhaps their appointed time has come near? So in what statement [i.e., message] hereafter will they believe?
مَن Whoever man (is) let go astray yuḍ'lili (by) Allah l-lahu then (there is) no falā guide hādiya for him lahu And He leaves them wayadharuhum in fī their transgression ṭugh'yānihim wandering blindly yaʿmahūna
Whoever Allāh sends astray - there is no guide for him. And He leaves them in their transgression, wandering blindly.
يَسْـَٔلُونَكَ They ask you yasalūnaka about ʿani the Hour l-sāʿati when will be ayyāna its appointed time mur'sāhā Say qul Only innamā its knowledge ʿil'muhā (is) with ʿinda my Lord rabbī no (one) lā can reveal [it] yujallīhā its time liwaqtihā except illā Him huwa It lays heavily thaqulat in fī the heavens l-samāwāti and the earth wal-arḍi Not lā will it come to you tatīkum but illā suddenly baghtatan They ask you yasalūnaka as if you ka-annaka (were) well informed ḥafiyyun about it ʿanhā Say qul Only innamā its knowledge ʿil'muhā (is) with ʿinda Allah l-lahi but walākinna most akthara (of) the people l-nāsi (do) not lā know yaʿlamūna
They ask you, [O Muḥammad], about the Hour: when is its arrival?1 Say, "Its knowledge is only with my Lord. None will reveal its time except Him. It lays heavily2 upon the heavens and the earth. It will not come upon you except unexpectedly." They ask you as if you are familiar with it. Say, "Its knowledge is only with Allāh, but most of the people do not know."
