وَلَمَّا And when walammā returned rajaʿa Musa mūsā to ilā his people qawmihi angry ghaḍbāna and grieved asifan he said qāla Evil is what bi'samā you have done in my place khalaftumūnī from min after me baʿdī Were you impatient aʿajil'tum (over the) matter amra (of) your Lord rabbikum And he cast down wa-alqā the tablets l-alwāḥa and seized wa-akhadha by head birasi his brother akhīhi dragging him yajurruhu to himself ilayhi He said qāla O son ib'na (of) my mother umma Indeed inna the people l-qawma considered me weak is'taḍʿafūnī and were about to wakādū kill me yaqtulūnanī So (let) not falā rejoice tush'mit over me biya the enemies l-aʿdāa and (do) not walā place me tajʿalnī with maʿa the people l-qawmi (who are) wrongdoing l-ẓālimīna
And when Moses returned to his people, angry and grieved, he said, "How wretched is that by which you have replaced me after [my departure]. Were you impatient over the matter of your Lord?" And he threw down the tablets and seized his brother by [the hair of] his head, pulling him toward him. [Aaron] said, "O son of my mother, indeed the people overpowered me and were about to kill me, so let not the enemies rejoice over me1 and do not place me among the wrongdoing people."
قَالَ He said qāla O my Lord rabbi Forgive igh'fir me lī and my brother wali-akhī and admit us wa-adkhil'nā into fī Your Mercy raḥmatika for You wa-anta (are) the Most Merciful arḥamu (of) the merciful l-rāḥimīna
[Moses] said, "My Lord, forgive me and my brother and admit us into Your mercy, for You are the most merciful of the merciful."
إِنَّ Indeed inna those who alladhīna took ittakhadhū the calf l-ʿij'la will reach them sayanāluhum wrath ghaḍabun from min their Lord rabbihim and humiliation wadhillatun in fī the life l-ḥayati (of) the world l-dun'yā And thus wakadhālika We recompense najzī the ones who invent (falsehood) l-muf'tarīna
Indeed, those who took the calf [for worship] will obtain anger from their Lord and humiliation in the life of this world, and thus do We recompense the inventors [of falsehood].
وَٱلَّذِينَ And those who wa-alladhīna do ʿamilū the evil deeds l-sayiāti then thumma repented tābū from min after that baʿdihā and believed waāmanū indeed inna your Lord rabbaka from min after that baʿdihā (is) surely Oft-Forgiving laghafūrun Most Merciful raḥīmun
But those who committed misdeeds and then repented after them and believed - indeed your Lord, thereafter, is Forgiving and Merciful.
وَلَمَّا And when walammā was calmed sakata from ʿan Musa mūsā the anger l-ghaḍabu he took (up) akhadha the tablets l-alwāḥa and in wafī their inscription nus'khatihā (was) guidance hudan and mercy waraḥmatun for those who lilladhīna [they] hum of their Lord lirabbihim (are) fearful yarhabūna
And when the anger subsided in Moses, he took up the tablets; and in their inscription was guidance and mercy for those who are fearful of their Lord.
وَٱخْتَارَ And chose wa-ikh'tāra Musa mūsā (from) his people qawmahu seventy sabʿīna men rajulan for Our appointment limīqātinā Then when falammā seized them akhadhathumu the earthquake l-rajfatu he said qāla O my Lord rabbi If law you (had) willed shi'ta You (could) have destroyed them ahlaktahum from min before qablu and me wa-iyyāya Would You destroy us atuh'likunā for what bimā did faʿala the foolish l-sufahāu among us minnā Not in it (was) hiya but illā Your trial fit'natuka You let go astray tuḍillu by it bihā whom man You will tashāu and You guide watahdī whom man You will tashāu You anta (are) our Protector waliyyunā so forgive fa-igh'fir us lanā and have mercy upon us wa-ir'ḥamnā and You wa-anta (are) Best khayru (of) Forgivers l-ghāfirīna
And Moses chose from his people seventy men for Our appointment.1 And when the earthquake seized them,2 he said, "My Lord, if You had willed, You could have destroyed them before and me [as well]. Would You destroy us for what the foolish among us have done? This is not but Your trial by which You send astray whom You will and guide whom You will. You are our Protector, so forgive us and have mercy upon us; and You are the best of forgivers.
