قَالَ He said qāla O Musa yāmūsā Indeed, I innī have chosen you iṣ'ṭafaytuka over ʿalā the people l-nāsi with My Messages birisālātī and with My words wabikalāmī So take fakhudh what mā I have given you ātaytuka and be wakun among mina the grateful l-shākirīna
[Allāh] said, "O Moses, I have chosen you over the people with My messages and My words [to you]. So take what I have given you and be among the grateful."
وَكَتَبْنَا And We ordained (laws) wakatabnā for him lahu in fī the tablets l-alwāḥi of min every kulli thing shayin an instruction mawʿiẓatan and explanation watafṣīlan for every likulli thing shayin So take them fakhudh'hā with firmness biquwwatin and order wamur your people qawmaka (to) take yakhudhū (the) best of it bi-aḥsanihā I will show you sa-urīkum (the) home dāra (of) the defiantly disobedient l-fāsiqīna
And We wrote for him on the tablets [something] of all things - instruction and explanation for all things, [saying], "Take them with determination and order your people to take the best of it. I will show you the home of the defiantly disobedient."1
سَأَصْرِفُ I will turn away sa-aṣrifu from ʿan My Signs āyātiya those who alladhīna are arrogant yatakabbarūna in fī the earth l-arḍi without bighayri [the] right l-ḥaqi and if wa-in they see yaraw every kulla sign āyatin not lā (will) they believe yu'minū in it bihā And if wa-in they see yaraw (the) way sabīla (of) the righteousness l-rush'di not lā (will) they take it yattakhidhūhu (as) a way sabīlan but if wa-in they see yaraw (the) way sabīla (of) [the] error l-ghayi they will take it yattakhidhūhu (as) a way sabīlan That dhālika (is) because they bi-annahum denied kadhabū Our Signs biāyātinā and they were wakānū of them ʿanhā heedless ghāfilīna
I will turn away from My signs those who are arrogant upon the earth without right; and if they should see every sign, they will not believe in it. And if they see the way of consciousness,1 they will not adopt it as a way; but if they see the way of error, they will adopt it as a way. That is because they have denied Our signs and they were heedless of them.
وَٱلَّذِينَ And those who wa-alladhīna denied kadhabū Our Signs biāyātinā and (the) meeting waliqāi (of) the Hereafter l-ākhirati worthless ḥabiṭat (are) their deeds aʿmāluhum Will hal they be recompensed yuj'zawna except illā (for) what mā they used to kānū do yaʿmalūna
Those who denied Our signs and the meeting of the Hereafter - their deeds have become worthless. Are they recompensed except for what they used to do?
وَٱتَّخَذَ And took wa-ittakhadha (the) people qawmu (of) Musa mūsā from min after him baʿdihi from min their ornaments ḥuliyyihim a calf ʿij'lan an image jasadan [for] it lahu (had) a lowing sound khuwārun Did not alam they see yaraw that it annahu (could) not lā speak to them yukallimuhum and not walā guide them yahdīhim (to) a way sabīlan They took it (for worship) ittakhadhūhu and they were wakānū wrongdoers ẓālimīna
And the people of Moses made, after [his departure], from their ornaments a calf - an image having a lowing sound. Did they not see that it could neither speak to them nor guide them to a way? They took it [for worship], and they were wrongdoers.
وَلَمَّا And when walammā (it was made to) fall suqiṭa into fī their hands aydīhim and they saw wara-aw that they annahum (had) indeed qad gone astray ḍallū they said qālū If la-in not lam has Mercy on us yarḥamnā Our Lord rabbunā and forgive wayaghfir [for] us lanā we will surely be lanakūnanna among mina the losers l-khāsirīna
And when regret overcame them1 and they saw that they had gone astray, they said, "If our Lord does not have mercy upon us and forgive us, we will surely be among the losers."
