وَٱذْكُرُوٓا۟ And remember wa-udh'kurū when idh He made you jaʿalakum successors khulafāa from min after baʿdi Aad ʿādin and settled you wabawwa-akum in fī the earth l-arḍi You take tattakhidhūna from min its plains suhūlihā palaces quṣūran and you carve out watanḥitūna the mountains l-jibāla (as) homes buyūtan So remember fa-udh'kurū (the) Bounties ālāa (of) Allah l-lahi and (do) not walā act wickedly taʿthaw in fī (the) earth l-arḍi spreading corruption muf'sidīna
And remember when He made you successors after the ʿAad and settled you in the land, [and] you take for yourselves palaces from its plains and carve from the mountains, homes. Then remember the favors of Allāh and do not commit abuse on the earth, spreading corruption."
قَالَ Said qāla the chiefs l-mala-u those alladhīna (who) were arrogant is'takbarū among min his people qawmihi to those who lilladhīna were oppressed us'tuḍ'ʿifū [to] those who liman believed āmana among them min'hum Do you know ataʿlamūna that anna Salih ṣāliḥan (is the) one sent mur'salun from min his Lord rabbihi They said qālū Indeed, we innā in what bimā he has been sent ur'sila with [it] bihi (are) believers mu'minūna
Said the eminent ones who were arrogant among his people to those who were oppressed - to those who believed among them, "Do you [actually] know that Ṣāliḥ is sent from his Lord?" They said, "Indeed we, in that with which he was sent, are believers."
قَالَ Said qāla those who alladhīna were arrogant is'takbarū Indeed we innā in that which bi-alladhī you believe āmantum in it bihi (are) disbelievers kāfirūna
Said those who were arrogant, "Indeed we, in that which you have believed, are disbelievers."
فَعَقَرُوا۟ Then they hamstrung faʿaqarū the she-camel l-nāqata and (were) insolent waʿataw towards ʿan (the) command amri (of) their Lord rabbihim and they said waqālū O Salih yāṣāliḥu Bring us i'tinā what bimā you promise us taʿidunā if in you are kunta of mina the Messengers l-mur'salīna
So they hamstrung the she-camel and were insolent toward the command of their Lord and said, "O Ṣāliḥ, bring us what you promise us, if you should be of the messengers."
فَأَخَذَتْهُمُ So seized them fa-akhadhathumu the earthquake l-rajfatu then they became fa-aṣbaḥū in fī their homes dārihim fallen prone jāthimīna
So the earthquake seized them, and they became within their home [corpses] fallen prone.
فَتَوَلَّىٰ So he turned away fatawallā from them ʿanhum and he said waqāla O my people yāqawmi Verily laqad I have conveyed to you ablaghtukum (the) Message risālata (of) my Lord rabbī and [I] advised wanaṣaḥtu [to] you lakum but walākin not lā you like tuḥibbūna the advisers l-nāṣiḥīna
And he [i.e., Ṣāliḥ] turned away from them and said, "O my people, I had certainly conveyed to you the message of my Lord and advised you, but you do not like advisors."
وَلُوطًا And Lut walūṭan when idh he said qāla to his people liqawmihi Do you commit atatūna (such) immorality l-fāḥishata not mā has preceded you sabaqakum therein bihā any min one aḥadin of mina the worlds l-ʿālamīna
And [We had sent] Lot when he said to his people, "Do you commit such immorality as no one has preceded you with from among the worlds [i.e., peoples]?
إِنَّكُمْ Indeed, you innakum you approach latatūna the men l-rijāla lustfully shahwatan from min instead of dūni the women l-nisāi Nay bal you antum (are) a people qawmun (who) commit excesses mus'rifūna
Indeed, you approach men with desire, instead of women. Rather, you are a transgressing people."
