أُبَلِّغُكُمْ I convey to you uballighukum Messages risālāti (of) my Lord rabbī and I am wa-anā to you lakum an adviser nāṣiḥun trustworthy amīnun
I convey to you the messages of my Lord, and I am to you a trustworthy adviser.
أَوَعَجِبْتُمْ Do you wonder awaʿajib'tum that an has come to you jāakum a reminder dhik'run from min your Lord rabbikum on ʿalā a man rajulin among you minkum that he may warn you liyundhirakum And remember wa-udh'kurū when idh He made you jaʿalakum successors khulafāa from min after baʿdi (the) people qawmi (of) Nuh nūḥin and increased you wazādakum in fī the stature l-khalqi extensively baṣ'ṭatan So remember fa-udh'kurū (the) Bounties ālāa (of) Allah l-lahi so that you may laʿallakum succeed tuf'liḥūna
Then do you wonder that there has come to you a reminder from your Lord through a man from among you, that he may warn you? And remember when He made you successors after the people of Noah and increased you in stature extensively. So remember the favors of Allāh that you might succeed."
قَالُوٓا۟ They said qālū Have you come to us aji'tanā that we (should) worship linaʿbuda Allah l-laha Alone waḥdahu and we forsake wanadhara what mā used to kāna worship yaʿbudu our forefathers ābāunā Then bring us fatinā of what bimā you promise us taʿidunā if in you are kunta of mina the truthful l-ṣādiqīna
They said, "Have you come to us that we should worship Allāh alone and leave what our fathers have worshipped? Then bring us what you promise us,1 if you should be of the truthful."
قَالَ He said qāla Verily qad has fallen waqaʿa upon you ʿalaykum from min your Lord rabbikum punishment rij'sun and anger waghaḍabun Do you dispute with me atujādilūnanī concerning fī names asmāin you have named them sammaytumūhā you antum and your forefathers waābāukum Not mā (has been) sent down nazzala (by) Allah l-lahu for it bihā any min authority sul'ṭānin Then wait fa-intaẓirū indeed, I am innī with you maʿakum of mina the ones who wait l-muntaẓirīna
[Hūd] said, "Already have defilement and anger fallen upon you from your Lord. Do you dispute with me concerning [mere] names you have named them,1 you and your fathers, for which Allāh has not sent down any authority? Then wait; indeed, I am with you among those who wait."
فَأَنجَيْنَـٰهُ So We saved him fa-anjaynāhu and those wa-alladhīna with him maʿahu by Mercy biraḥmatin from Us minnā And We cut off waqaṭaʿnā the roots dābira (of) those who alladhīna denied kadhabū Our Signs biāyātinā and not wamā they were kānū believers mu'minīna
So We saved him and those with him by mercy from Us. And We eliminated those who denied Our signs, and they were not [at all] believers.
وَإِلَىٰ And to wa-ilā Thamud thamūda (We sent) their brother akhāhum Salih ṣāliḥan He said qāla O my people yāqawmi Worship uʿ'budū Allah l-laha not mā for you lakum any min god ilāhin other than Him ghayruhu Verily qad has come to you jāatkum a clear proof bayyinatun from min your Lord rabbikum This hādhihi (is) a she-camel nāqatu (of) Allah l-lahi (it is) for you lakum a Sign āyatan So you leave her fadharūhā (to) eat takul on fī (the) earth arḍi (of) Allah l-lahi and (do) not walā touch her tamassūhā with harm bisūin lest seizes you fayakhudhakum a punishment ʿadhābun painful alīmun
And to the Thamūd [We sent] their brother Ṣāliḥ. He said, "O my people, worship Allāh; you have no deity other than Him. There has come to you clear evidence from your Lord. This is the she-camel of Allāh [sent] to you as a sign. So leave her to eat within Allāh's land and do not touch her with harm, lest there seize you a painful punishment.
