وَٱلْبَلَدُ And the land wal-baladu [the] pure l-ṭayibu comes forth yakhruju its vegetation nabātuhu by (the) permission bi-idh'ni (of) its Lord rabbihi but which wa-alladhī is bad khabutha (does) not lā come forth yakhruju except illā (with) difficulty nakidan Thus kadhālika We explain nuṣarrifu the Signs l-āyāti for a people liqawmin who are grateful yashkurūna
And the good land - its vegetation emerges by permission of its Lord; but that which is bad - nothing emerges except sparsely, with difficulty. Thus do We diversify the signs for a people who are grateful.
لَقَدْ Certainly laqad We sent arsalnā Nuh nūḥan to ilā his people qawmihi and he said faqāla O my people yāqawmi Worship uʿ'budū Allah l-laha not mā for you lakum any min god ilāhin other than Him ghayruhu Indeed, I innī [I] fear akhāfu for you ʿalaykum punishment ʿadhāba (of the) Day yawmin Great ʿaẓīmin
We had certainly sent Noah to his people, and he said, "O my people, worship Allāh; you have no deity other than Him. Indeed, I fear for you the punishment of a tremendous Day."
قَالَ Said qāla the chiefs l-mala-u of min his people qawmihi Indeed, we innā surely see you lanarāka in fī error ḍalālin clear mubīnin
Said the eminent among his people, "Indeed, we see you in clear error."
قَالَ He said qāla O my people yāqawmi There is not laysa in me bī error ḍalālatun but I am walākinnī a Messenger rasūlun from min (the) Lord rabbi (of) the worlds l-ʿālamīna
[Noah] said, "O my people, there is not error in me, but I am a messenger from the Lord of the worlds.
أُبَلِّغُكُمْ I convey to you uballighukum the Messages risālāti (of) my Lord rabbī and [I] advise wa-anṣaḥu [to] you lakum and I know wa-aʿlamu from mina Allah l-lahi what mā not lā you know taʿlamūna
I convey to you the messages of my Lord and advise you; and I know from Allāh what you do not know.
أَوَعَجِبْتُمْ Do you wonder awaʿajib'tum that an has come to you jāakum a reminder dhik'run from min your Lord rabbikum on ʿalā a man rajulin among you minkum that he may warn you liyundhirakum and that you may fear walitattaqū and so that you may walaʿallakum receive mercy tur'ḥamūna
Then do you wonder that there has come to you a reminder from your Lord through a man from among you, that he may warn you and that you may fear Allāh so you might receive mercy?"
فَكَذَّبُوهُ But they denied him fakadhabūhu so We saved him fa-anjaynāhu and those who wa-alladhīna (were) with him maʿahu in fī the ship l-ful'ki And We drowned wa-aghraqnā those who alladhīna denied kadhabū Our Verses biāyātinā Indeed, they innahum were kānū a people qawman blind ʿamīna
But they denied him, so We saved him and those who were with him in the ship. And We drowned those who denied Our signs. Indeed, they were a blind people.1
۞ وَإِلَىٰ And to wa-ilā Aad ʿādin (We sent) their brother akhāhum Hud hūdan He said qāla O my people yāqawmi Worship uʿ'budū Allah l-laha not mā for you lakum any min god ilāhin other than Him ghayruhu Then will not afalā you fear (Allah) tattaqūna
And to the ʿAad [We sent] their brother Hūd. He said, "O my people, worship Allāh; you have no deity other than Him. Then will you not fear Him?"
قَالَ Said qāla the chiefs l-mala-u (of) those who alladhīna disbelieved kafarū from min his people qawmihi Indeed, we innā surely, see you lanarāka in fī foolishness safāhatin and indeed, we wa-innā [we] think you lanaẓunnuka (are) of mina the liars l-kādhibīna
Said the eminent ones who disbelieved among his people, "Indeed, we see you in foolishness, and indeed, we think you are of the liars."
قَالَ He said qāla O my people yāqawmi There is not laysa in me bī foolishness safāhatun but I am walākinnī a Messenger rasūlun from min (the) Lord rabbi (of) the worlds l-ʿālamīna
[Hūd] said, "O my people, there is not foolishness in me, but I am a messenger from the Lord of the worlds.
