۞ يَـٰبَنِىٓ O Children yābanī (of) Adam ādama Take khudhū your adornment zīnatakum at ʿinda every kulli masjid masjidin and eat wakulū and drink wa-ish'rabū but (do) not walā be extravagant tus'rifū Indeed, He innahu (does) not lā love yuḥibbu the extravagant ones l-mus'rifīna
O children of Adam, take your adornment [i.e., wear your clothing] at every masjid,1 and eat and drink, but be not excessive. Indeed, He likes not those who commit excess.
قُلْ Say qul Who man has forbidden ḥarrama (the) adornment zīnata (from) Allah l-lahi which allatī He has brought forth akhraja for His slaves liʿibādihi and the pure things wal-ṭayibāti of mina sustenance l-riz'qi Say qul They hiya (are) for those who lilladhīna believe āmanū during fī the life l-ḥayati (of) the world l-dun'yā exclusively (for them) khāliṣatan (on the) Day yawma (of) Resurrection l-qiyāmati Thus kadhālika We explain nufaṣṣilu the Signs l-āyāti for (the) people liqawmin who know yaʿlamūna
Say, "Who has forbidden the adornment of [i.e., from] Allāh which He has produced for His servants and the good [lawful] things of provision?" Say, "They are for those who believed during the life of this world, exclusively [for them] on the Day of Resurrection." Thus do We detail the verses for a people who know.
قُلْ Say qul Only innamā (had) forbidden ḥarrama my Lord rabbiya the shameful deeds l-fawāḥisha what mā (is) apparent ẓahara of it min'hā and what wamā is concealed baṭana and the sin wal-ith'ma and the oppression wal-baghya without bighayri [the] right l-ḥaqi and that wa-an you associate (others) tush'rikū with Allah bil-lahi what mā not lam He (has) sent down yunazzil of it bihi any authority sul'ṭānan and that wa-an you say taqūlū about ʿalā Allah l-lahi what mā not lā you know taʿlamūna
Say, "My Lord has only forbidden immoralities - what is apparent of them and what is concealed - and sin,1 and oppression without right, and that you associate with Allāh that for which He has not sent down authority, and that you say about Allāh that which you do not know."
وَلِكُلِّ And for every walikulli nation ummatin (is a fixed) term ajalun So when fa-idhā comes jāa their term ajaluhum (they can) not lā seek to delay yastakhirūna an hour sāʿatan and not walā seek to advance (it) yastaqdimūna
And for every nation is a [specified] term. So when their time has come, they will not remain behind an hour, nor will they precede [it].
يَـٰبَنِىٓ O Children yābanī (of) Adam ādama If immā come to you yatiyannakum Messengers rusulun from you minkum relating yaquṣṣūna to you ʿalaykum My Verses āyātī then whoever famani fears Allah ittaqā and reforms wa-aṣlaḥa then no falā fear khawfun on them ʿalayhim and not walā they hum will grieve yaḥzanūna
O children of Adam, if there come to you messengers from among you relating to you My verses [i.e., scriptures and laws], then whoever fears Allāh and reforms - there will be no fear concerning them, nor will they grieve.
وَٱلَّذِينَ But those who wa-alladhīna deny kadhabū Our Verses biāyātinā and (are) arrogant wa-is'takbarū towards them ʿanhā those ulāika (are the) companions aṣḥābu (of) the Fire l-nāri they hum in it fīhā will abide forever khālidūna
But the ones who deny Our verses and are arrogant toward them - those are the companions of the Fire; they will abide therein eternally.
فَمَنْ Then who faman (is) more unjust aẓlamu than (one) who mimmani invented if'tarā against ʿalā Allah l-lahi a lie kadhiban or aw denies kadhaba His Verses biāyātihi Those ulāika will reach them yanāluhum their portion naṣībuhum from mina the Book l-kitābi until ḥattā when idhā comes to them jāathum Our messengers (Angels) rusulunā (to) take them in death yatawaffawnahum they say qālū Where are ayna those (whom) mā you used to kuntum invoke tadʿūna from min besides dūni Allah l-lahi They say qālū They strayed ḍallū from us ʿannā and they (will) testify washahidū against ʿalā themselves anfusihim that they annahum were kānū disbelievers kāfirīna
And who is more unjust than one who invents about Allāh a lie or denies His verses? Those will attain their portion of the decree1 until, when Our messengers [i.e., angels] come to them to take them in death, they will say, "Where are those you used to invoke besides Allāh?" They will say, "They have departed from us," and will bear witness against themselves that they were disbelievers.
