قَالَ (Allah) said qāla What mā prevented you manaʿaka that not allā you prostrate tasjuda when idh I commanded you amartuka (Shaitaan) said qāla I am anā better khayrun than him min'hu You created me khalaqtanī from min fire nārin and You created him wakhalaqtahu from min clay ṭīnin
[Allāh] said, "What prevented you from prostrating when I commanded you?" [Satan] said, "I am better than him. You created me from fire and created him from clay [i.e., earth]."
قَالَ (Allah) said qāla Then go down fa-ih'biṭ from it min'hā for not famā it is yakūnu for you laka that an you be arrogant tatakabbara in it fīhā So get out fa-ukh'ruj indeed, you innaka (are) of mina the disgraced ones l-ṣāghirīna
[Allāh] said, "Descend from it [i.e., Paradise], for it is not for you to be arrogant therein. So get out; indeed, you are of the debased."
قَالَ (Shaitaan) said qāla Give me respite anẓir'nī till ilā (the) Day yawmi they are raised up yub'ʿathūna
[Satan] said, "Reprieve me until the Day they are resurrected."
قَالَ (Allah) said qāla Indeed, you innaka (are) of mina the ones given respite l-munẓarīna
[Allāh] said, "Indeed, you are of those reprieved."
قَالَ (Shaitaan) said qāla Because fabimā You have sent me astray aghwaytanī surely I will sit la-aqʿudanna for them lahum (on) Your path ṣirāṭaka the straight l-mus'taqīma
[Satan] said, "Because You have put me in error, I will surely sit in wait for them [i.e., mankind] on Your straight path.
ثُمَّ Then thumma surely, I will come to them laātiyannahum from min before bayni them aydīhim and from wamin behind them khalfihim and from waʿan their right aymānihim and from waʿan their left shamāilihim and not walā You (will) find tajidu most of them aktharahum grateful shākirīna
Then I will come to them from before them and from behind them and on their right and on their left, and You will not find most of them grateful [to You]."
قَالَ (Allah) said qāla Get out ukh'ruj of it min'hā disgraced madhūman and expelled madḥūran Certainly, whoever laman follows you tabiʿaka among them min'hum surely, I will fill la-amla-anna Hell jahannama with you minkum all ajmaʿīna
[Allāh] said, "Depart from it [i.e., Paradise], reproached and expelled. Whoever follows you among them - I will surely fill Hell with you, all together."
وَيَـٰٓـَٔادَمُ And O Adam wayāādamu Dwell us'kun you anta and your wife wazawjuka (in) the Garden l-janata and you both eat fakulā from min wherever ḥaythu you both wish shi'tumā but (do) not walā approach [both of you] taqrabā this hādhihi [the] tree l-shajarata lest you both be fatakūnā among mina the wrongdoers l-ẓālimīna
And "O Adam, dwell, you and your wife, in Paradise and eat from wherever you will but do not approach this tree, lest you be among the wrongdoers."
فَوَسْوَسَ Then whispered fawaswasa to both of them lahumā the Shaitaan l-shayṭānu to make apparent liyub'diya to both of them lahumā what mā was concealed wūriya from both of them ʿanhumā of min their shame sawātihimā And he said waqāla (Did) not mā forbid you both nahākumā your Lord rabbukumā from ʿan this hādhihi [the] tree l-shajarati except illā that an you two become takūnā Angels malakayni or aw you two become takūnā of mina the immortals l-khālidīna
But Satan whispered to them to make apparent to them that which was concealed from them of their private parts. He said, "Your Lord did not forbid you this tree except that you become angels or become of the immortal."
وَقَاسَمَهُمَآ And he swore (to) both of them waqāsamahumā Indeed, I am innī to both of you lakumā among lamina the sincere advisors l-nāṣiḥīna
And he swore [by Allāh] to them, "Indeed, I am to you from among the sincere advisors."
فَدَلَّىٰهُمَا So he made both of them fall fadallāhumā by deception bighurūrin Then when falammā they both tasted dhāqā the tree l-shajarata became apparent badat to both of them lahumā their shame sawātuhumā and they began waṭafiqā (to) fasten yakhṣifāni over themselves ʿalayhimā from min (the) leaves waraqi (of) the Garden l-janati And called them both wanādāhumā their Lord rabbuhumā Did not alam I forbid you both anhakumā from ʿan this til'kumā [the] tree l-shajarati and [I] say wa-aqul to both of you lakumā that inna [the] Shaitaan l-shayṭāna to both of you lakumā (is) an enemy ʿaduwwun open mubīnun
So he made them fall, through deception. And when they tasted of the tree, their private parts became apparent to them, and they began to fasten together over themselves from the leaves of Paradise. And their Lord called to them, "Did I not forbid you from that tree and tell you that Satan is to you a clear enemy?"
