يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا O you yāayyuhā who alladhīna believe āmanū Verily innamā the intoxicants l-khamru and [the] games of chance wal-maysiru and (sacrifices at) altars wal-anṣābu and divining arrows wal-azlāmu (are an) abomination rij'sun from min (the) work ʿamali (of) the Shaitaan l-shayṭāni so avoid it fa-ij'tanibūhu so that you may laʿallakum (be) successful tuf'liḥūna
O you who have believed, indeed, intoxicants, gambling, [sacrificing on] stone alters [to other than Allāh], and divining arrows are but defilement from the work of Satan, so avoid1 it that you may be successful.
إِنَّمَا Only innamā intends yurīdu the Shaitaan l-shayṭānu to an cause yūqiʿa between you baynakumu [the] enmity l-ʿadāwata and [the] hatred wal-baghḍāa through fī intoxicants l-khamri and gambling wal-maysiri and hinders you wayaṣuddakum from ʿan (the) remembrance dhik'ri (of) Allah l-lahi and from waʿani the prayer l-ṣalati So will fahal you antum (be) the ones who abstain muntahūna
Satan only wants to cause between you animosity and hatred through intoxicants and gambling and to avert you from the remembrance of Allāh and from prayer. So will you not desist?
وَأَطِيعُوا۟ And obey wa-aṭīʿū Allah l-laha and obey wa-aṭīʿū the Messenger l-rasūla and beware wa-iḥ'dharū And if fa-in you turn away tawallaytum then know fa-iʿ'lamū only annamā upon ʿalā Our Messenger rasūlinā (is to) convey (the Message) l-balāghu clearly l-mubīnu
And obey Allāh and obey the Messenger and beware. And if you turn away - then know that upon Our Messenger is only [the responsibility for] clear notification.
لَيْسَ Not laysa on ʿalā those who alladhīna believe āmanū and do waʿamilū the good deeds l-ṣāliḥāti any sin junāḥun for what fīmā they ate ṭaʿimū when idhā that mā they fear (Allah) ittaqaw and they believe waāmanū and they do waʿamilū [the] good deeds l-ṣāliḥāti then thumma they fear (Allah) ittaqaw and believe waāmanū then thumma they fear (Allah) ittaqaw and do good wa-aḥsanū and Allah wal-lahu loves yuḥibbu the good-doers l-muḥ'sinīna
There is not upon those who believe and do righteousness [any] blame concerning what they have eaten [in the past] if they [now] fear Allāh and believe and do righteous deeds, and then fear Allāh and believe, and then fear Allāh and do good; and Allāh loves the doers of good.
يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا O you yāayyuhā who alladhīna believe āmanū Surely will test you layabluwannakumu Allah l-lahu through something bishayin of mina the game l-ṣaydi can reach it tanāluhu your hands aydīkum and your spears warimāḥukum that may make evident liyaʿlama Allah l-lahu who man fears Him yakhāfuhu in the unseen bil-ghaybi And whoever famani transgressed iʿ'tadā after baʿda that dhālika then for him falahu (is) a punishment ʿadhābun painful alīmun
O you who have believed, Allāh will surely test you through something of the game that your hands and spears [can] reach, that Allāh may make evident those who fear Him unseen. And whoever transgresses after that - for him is a painful punishment.
يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا O you yāayyuhā who alladhīna believe āmanū (Do) not lā kill taqtulū the game l-ṣayda while you wa-antum (are in) Ihram ḥurumun And whoever waman killed it qatalahu among you minkum intentionally mutaʿammidan then penalty fajazāon (is) similar mith'lu (to) what mā he killed qatala of mina the cattle l-naʿami judging yaḥkumu it bihi two men dhawā just ʿadlin among you minkum (as) an offering hadyan reaching bāligha the Kabah l-kaʿbati or aw an expiation kaffāratun feeding ṭaʿāmu needy people masākīna or aw equivalent ʿadlu (of) that dhālika (in) fasting ṣiyāman that he may taste liyadhūqa (the) consequence wabāla (of) his deed amrihi Pardoned ʿafā (by) Allah l-lahu what ʿammā (has) passed salafa but whoever waman returned ʿāda then will take retribution fayantaqimu Allah l-lahu from him min'hu And Allah wal-lahu (is) All-Mighty ʿazīzun Owner dhū (of) Retribution intiqāmin
O you who have believed, do not kill game while you are in the state of iḥrām.1 And whoever of you kills it intentionally - the penalty is an equivalent from sacrificial animals to what he killed, as judged by two just men among you as an offering [to Allāh] delivered to the Kaʿbah, or an expiation: the feeding of needy people or the equivalent of that in fasting, that he may taste the consequence of his matter [i.e., deed]. Allāh has pardoned what is past; but whoever returns [to violation], then Allāh will take retribution from him. And Allāh is Exalted in Might and Owner of Retribution.2
