وَإِذَا And when wa-idhā they listen samiʿū (to) what mā has been revealed unzila to ilā the Messenger l-rasūli you see tarā their eyes aʿyunahum overflowing tafīḍu with mina the tears l-damʿi for what mimmā they recognized ʿarafū of mina the truth l-ḥaqi They say yaqūlūna Our Lord rabbanā we have believed āmannā so write us fa-uk'tub'nā with maʿa the witnesses l-shāhidīna
And when they hear what has been revealed to the Messenger, you see their eyes overflowing with tears because of what they have recognized of the truth. They say, "Our Lord, we have believed, so register us among the witnesses.
وَمَا And what wamā for us (that) lanā not lā we believe nu'minu in Allah bil-lahi and what wamā came (to) us jāanā from mina the truth l-ḥaqi And we hope wanaṭmaʿu that an will admit us yud'khilanā our Lord rabbunā with maʿa the people l-qawmi the righteous l-ṣāliḥīna
And why should we not believe in Allāh and what has come to us of the truth? And we aspire that our Lord will admit us [to Paradise] with the righteous people."
فَأَثَـٰبَهُمُ So rewarded them fa-athābahumu Allah l-lahu for what bimā they said qālū (with) Gardens jannātin flows tajrī from min underneath them taḥtihā the rivers l-anhāru will abide forever khālidīna in it fīhā And that wadhālika (is the) reward jazāu (of) the good-doers l-muḥ'sinīna
So Allāh rewarded them for what they said1 with gardens [in Paradise] beneath which rivers flow, wherein they abide eternally. And that is the reward of doers of good.
وَٱلَّذِينَ And those who wa-alladhīna disbelieved kafarū and denied wakadhabū Our Signs biāyātinā those ulāika (are the) companions aṣḥābu (of) the Hellfire l-jaḥīmi
But those who disbelieved and denied Our signs - they are the companions of Hellfire.
يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا O you yāayyuhā who alladhīna believe āmanū (Do) not lā make unlawful tuḥarrimū (the) good things ṭayyibāti (of) what mā has (been) made lawful aḥalla (by) Allah l-lahu for you lakum and (do) not walā transgress taʿtadū Indeed inna Allah l-laha (does) not lā love yuḥibbu the transgressors l-muʿ'tadīna
O you who have believed, do not prohibit the good things which Allāh has made lawful to you and do not transgress. Indeed, Allāh does not like transgressors.
وَكُلُوا۟ And eat wakulū of what mimmā has provided you razaqakumu Allah l-lahu lawful ḥalālan good ṭayyiban And fear wa-ittaqū Allah l-laha the One alladhī you (are) antum in Him bihi believers mu'minūna
And eat of what Allāh has provided for you [which is] lawful and good. And fear Allāh, in whom you are believers.
لَا Not lā will call you to account yuākhidhukumu Allah l-lahu for the thoughtless utterances bil-laghwi in fī your oaths aymānikum but walākin He will call you to account yuākhidhukum for what bimā you contracted ʿaqqadttumu (of) the oath l-aymāna So its expiation fakaffāratuhu (is) feeding iṭ'ʿāmu (of) ten ʿasharati needy people masākīna of min average awsaṭi (of) what mā you feed tuṭ'ʿimūna your families ahlīkum or aw clothing them kis'watuhum or aw freeing taḥrīru a slave raqabatin But whoever faman (does) not lam find yajid (that), then fasting faṣiyāmu (for) three thalāthati days ayyāmin That dhālika (is the) expiation kaffāratu (of) your oaths aymānikum when idhā you have sworn ḥalaftum And guard wa-iḥ'faẓū your oaths aymānakum Thus kadhālika makes clear yubayyinu Allah l-lahu to you lakum His Verses āyātihi so that you may laʿallakum (be) grateful tashkurūna
Allāh will not impose blame upon you for what is meaningless1 in your oaths, but He will impose blame upon you for [breaking] what you intended of oaths. So its expiation2 is the feeding of ten needy people from the average of that which you feed your [own] families or clothing them or the freeing of a slave. But whoever cannot find [or afford it] - then a fast of three days [is required]. That is the expiation for oaths when you have sworn. But guard your oaths.3 Thus does Allāh make clear to you His verses [i.e., revealed law] that you may be grateful.
