يُبَصَّرُونَهُمْ ۚ

They will be made to see each other

yubaṣṣarūnahum

يَوَدُّ

Would wish

yawaddu

ٱلْمُجْرِمُ

the criminal

l-muj'rimu

لَوْ

if

law

يَفْتَدِى

he (could be) ransomed

yaftadī

مِنْ

from

min

عَذَابِ

(the) punishment

ʿadhābi

يَوْمِئِذٍۭ

(of) that Day

yawmi-idhin

بِبَنِيهِ

by his children

bibanīhi

١١

They will be shown each other. The criminal will wish that he could be ransomed from the punishment of that Day by his children.

— Saheeh International

وَصَـٰحِبَتِهِۦ

And his spouse

waṣāḥibatihi

وَأَخِيهِ

and his brother

wa-akhīhi

١٢

And his wife and his brother

— Saheeh International

وَفَصِيلَتِهِ

And his nearest kindred

wafaṣīlatihi

ٱلَّتِى

who

allatī

تُـْٔوِيهِ

sheltered him

tu'wīhi

١٣

And his nearest kindred who shelter him.

— Saheeh International

وَمَن

And whoever

waman

فِى

(is) on

ٱلْأَرْضِ

the earth

l-arḍi

جَمِيعًۭا

all

jamīʿan

ثُمَّ

then

thumma

يُنجِيهِ

it (could) save him

yunjīhi

١٤

And whoever is on earth entirely [so] then it could save him.

— Saheeh International

كَلَّآ ۖ

By no means

kallā

إِنَّهَا

Indeed, it (is)

innahā

لَظَىٰ

surely a Flame of Hell

laẓā

١٥

No!1 Indeed, it is the Flame [of Hell],

— Saheeh International

نَزَّاعَةًۭ

A remover

nazzāʿatan

لِّلشَّوَىٰ

of the skin of the head

lilshawā

١٦

A remover of exteriors.1

— Saheeh International

تَدْعُوا۟

Inviting

tadʿū

مَنْ

(him) who

man

أَدْبَرَ

turned his back

adbara

وَتَوَلَّىٰ

and went away

watawallā

١٧

It invites he who turned his back [on truth] and went away [from obedience]

— Saheeh International

وَجَمَعَ

And collected

wajamaʿa

فَأَوْعَىٰٓ

and hoarded

fa-awʿā

١٨

And collected [wealth] and hoarded.

— Saheeh International

۞ إِنَّ

Indeed

inna

ٱلْإِنسَـٰنَ

the man

l-insāna

خُلِقَ

was created

khuliqa

هَلُوعًا

anxious

halūʿan

١٩

Indeed, mankind was created anxious:

— Saheeh International

إِذَا

When

idhā

مَسَّهُ

touches him

massahu

ٱلشَّرُّ

the evil

l-sharu

جَزُوعًۭا

distressed

jazūʿan

٢٠

When evil touches him, impatient,

— Saheeh International

وَإِذَا

And when

wa-idhā

مَسَّهُ

touches him

massahu

ٱلْخَيْرُ

the good

l-khayru

مَنُوعًا

withholding

manūʿan

٢١

And when good touches him, withholding [of it],

— Saheeh International

إِلَّا

Except

illā

ٱلْمُصَلِّينَ

those who pray

l-muṣalīna

٢٢

Except the observers of prayer -

— Saheeh International

ٱلَّذِينَ

Those who

alladhīna

هُمْ

[they]

hum

عَلَىٰ

at

ʿalā

صَلَاتِهِمْ

their prayer

ṣalātihim

دَآئِمُونَ

(are) constant

dāimūna

٢٣

Those who are constant in their prayer

— Saheeh International

وَٱلَّذِينَ

And those who

wa-alladhīna

فِىٓ

in

أَمْوَٰلِهِمْ

their wealth

amwālihim

حَقٌّۭ

(is) a right

ḥaqqun

مَّعْلُومٌۭ

known

maʿlūmun

٢٤

And those within whose wealth is a known right1

— Saheeh International

لِّلسَّآئِلِ

For the one who asks

lilssāili

وَٱلْمَحْرُومِ

and the deprived

wal-maḥrūmi

٢٥

For the petitioner and the deprived -

— Saheeh International

وَٱلَّذِينَ

And those who

wa-alladhīna

يُصَدِّقُونَ

accept (the) truth

yuṣaddiqūna

بِيَوْمِ

(of the) Day

biyawmi

ٱلدِّينِ

(of) the Judgment

l-dīni

٢٦

And those who believe in the Day of Recompense

— Saheeh International

وَٱلَّذِينَ

And those who

wa-alladhīna

هُم

[they]

hum

مِّنْ

of

min

عَذَابِ

(the) punishment

ʿadhābi

رَبِّهِم

(of) their Lord

rabbihim

مُّشْفِقُونَ

(are) fearful

mush'fiqūna

٢٧

And those who are fearful of the punishment of their Lord -

— Saheeh International

إِنَّ

Indeed

inna

عَذَابَ

(the) punishment

ʿadhāba

رَبِّهِمْ

(of) your Lord

rabbihim

غَيْرُ

(is) not

ghayru

مَأْمُونٍۢ

to be felt secure (of)

mamūnin

٢٨

Indeed, the punishment of their Lord is not that from which one is safe -

— Saheeh International

وَٱلَّذِينَ

And those who

wa-alladhīna

هُمْ

[they]

hum

لِفُرُوجِهِمْ

their modesty

lifurūjihim

حَـٰفِظُونَ

(are) guardians

ḥāfiẓūna

٢٩

And those who guard their private parts

— Saheeh International

إِلَّا

Except

illā

عَلَىٰٓ

from

ʿalā

أَزْوَٰجِهِمْ

their spouses

azwājihim

أَوْ

or

aw

مَا

what

مَلَكَتْ

they possess

malakat

أَيْمَـٰنُهُمْ

rightfully

aymānuhum

فَإِنَّهُمْ

then indeed, they

fa-innahum

غَيْرُ

(are) not

ghayru

مَلُومِينَ

blameworthy

malūmīna

٣٠

Except from their wives or those their right hands possess,1 for indeed, they are not to be blamed -

— Saheeh International

فَمَنِ

But whoever

famani

ٱبْتَغَىٰ

seeks

ib'taghā

وَرَآءَ

beyond

warāa

ذَٰلِكَ

that

dhālika

فَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ

then those

fa-ulāika

هُمُ

[they]

humu

ٱلْعَادُونَ

(are) the transgressors

l-ʿādūna

٣١

But whoever seeks beyond that, then they are the transgressors -

— Saheeh International

وَٱلَّذِينَ

And those who

wa-alladhīna

هُمْ

[they]

hum

لِأَمَـٰنَـٰتِهِمْ

of their trusts

li-amānātihim

وَعَهْدِهِمْ

and their promise

waʿahdihim

رَٰعُونَ

(are) observers

rāʿūna

٣٢

And those who are to their trusts and promises attentive.

— Saheeh International

وَٱلَّذِينَ

And those who

wa-alladhīna

هُم

[they]

hum

بِشَهَـٰدَٰتِهِمْ

in their testimonies

bishahādātihim

قَآئِمُونَ

stand firm

qāimūna

٣٣

And those who are in their testimonies upright

— Saheeh International

وَٱلَّذِينَ

And those who

wa-alladhīna

هُمْ

[they]

hum

عَلَىٰ

on

ʿalā

صَلَاتِهِمْ

their prayer

ṣalātihim

يُحَافِظُونَ

keep a guard

yuḥāfiẓūna

٣٤

And those who [carefully] maintain their prayer:

— Saheeh International

أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ

Those

ulāika

فِى

(will be) in

جَنَّـٰتٍۢ

Gardens

jannātin

مُّكْرَمُونَ

honored

muk'ramūna

٣٥

They will be in gardens,1 honored.

— Saheeh International

فَمَالِ

So what is with

famāli

ٱلَّذِينَ

those who

alladhīna

كَفَرُوا۟

disbelieve

kafarū

قِبَلَكَ

before you

qibalaka

مُهْطِعِينَ

(they) hasten

muh'ṭiʿīna

٣٦

So what is [the matter] with those who disbelieve, hastening [from] before you, [O Muḥammad],

— Saheeh International

عَنِ

On

ʿani

ٱلْيَمِينِ

the right

l-yamīni

وَعَنِ

and on

waʿani

ٱلشِّمَالِ

the left

l-shimāli

عِزِينَ

(in) separate groups

ʿizīna

٣٧

[To sit] on [your] right and [your] left in separate groups?1

— Saheeh International

أَيَطْمَعُ

Does long

ayaṭmaʿu

كُلُّ

every

kullu

ٱمْرِئٍۢ

person

im'ri-in

مِّنْهُمْ

among them

min'hum

أَن

that

an

يُدْخَلَ

he enters

yud'khala

جَنَّةَ

a Garden

jannata

نَعِيمٍۢ

(of) Delight

naʿīmin

٣٨

Does every person among them aspire to enter a garden of pleasure?

— Saheeh International

كَلَّآ ۖ

By no means

kallā

إِنَّا

Indeed, We

innā

خَلَقْنَـٰهُم

[We] have created them

khalaqnāhum

مِّمَّا

from what

mimmā

يَعْلَمُونَ

they know

yaʿlamūna

٣٩

No! Indeed, We have created them from that which they know.1

— Saheeh International
