أَسْكِنُوهُنَّ

Lodge them

askinūhunna

مِنْ

from

حَيْثُ

where

ḥaythu

سَكَنتُم

you dwell

مِّن

(out) of

min

وُجْدِكُمْ

your means

wuj'dikum

وَلَا

and (do) not

walā

تُضَآرُّوهُنَّ

harm them

tuḍārrūhunna

لِتُضَيِّقُوا۟

to distress

lituḍayyiqū

عَلَيْهِنَّ ۚ

[on] them

ʿalayhinna

وَإِن

And if

wa-in

كُنَّ

they are

kunna

أُو۟لَـٰتِ

those (who are)

ulāti

حَمْلٍۢ

pregnant

ḥamlin

فَأَنفِقُوا۟

then spend

fa-anfiqū

عَلَيْهِنَّ

on them

ʿalayhinna

حَتَّىٰ

until

ḥattā

يَضَعْنَ

they deliver

yaḍaʿna

حَمْلَهُنَّ ۚ

their burden

ḥamlahunna

فَإِنْ

Then if

fa-in

أَرْضَعْنَ

they suckle

arḍaʿna

لَكُمْ

for you

lakum

فَـَٔاتُوهُنَّ

then give them

faātūhunna

أُجُورَهُنَّ ۖ

their payment

ujūrahunna

وَأْتَمِرُوا۟

and consult

watamirū

بَيْنَكُم

among yourselves

baynakum

بِمَعْرُوفٍۢ ۖ

with kindness

bimaʿrūfin

وَإِن

but if

wa-in

تَعَاسَرْتُمْ

you disagree

taʿāsartum

فَسَتُرْضِعُ

then may suckle

fasatur'ḍiʿu

لَهُۥٓ

for him

lahu

أُخْرَىٰ

another (women)

ukh'rā

٦

Lodge them1 [in a section] of where you dwell out of your means and do not harm them in order to oppress them.2 And if they should be pregnant, then spend on them until they give birth. And if they breastfeed for you, then give them their payment and confer among yourselves in the acceptable way; but if you are in discord, then there may breastfeed for him [i.e., the father] another woman.3

— Saheeh International

(by) Allah

l-lahu

لَا

Does not

يُكَلِّفُ

burden

yukallifu

ٱللَّهُ

Allah

l-lahu

نَفْسًا

any soul

nafsan

إِلَّا

except

illā

مَآ

(with) what

ءَاتَىٰهَا ۚ

He has given it

ātāhā

سَيَجْعَلُ

Will bring about

sayajʿalu

ٱللَّهُ

Allah

l-lahu

بَعْدَ

after

baʿda

عُسْرٍۢ

hardship

ʿus'rin

يُسْرًۭا

ease

yus'ran

٧

Let a man of wealth spend from his wealth, and he whose provision is restricted - let him spend from what Allāh has given him. Allāh does not charge a soul except [according to] what He has given it. Allāh will bring about, after hardship, ease [i.e., relief].

— Saheeh International

وَكَأَيِّن

And how many

waka-ayyin

مِّن

of

min

قَرْيَةٍ

a town

qaryatin

عَتَتْ

rebelled

ʿatat

عَنْ

against

ʿan

أَمْرِ

(the) Command

amri

رَبِّهَا

(of) its Lord

rabbihā

وَرُسُلِهِۦ

and His Messengers

warusulihi

فَحَاسَبْنَـٰهَا

so We took it to account

faḥāsabnāhā

حِسَابًۭا

an account

ḥisāban

شَدِيدًۭا

severe

shadīdan

وَعَذَّبْنَـٰهَا

and We punished it

waʿadhabnāhā

عَذَابًۭا

a punishment

ʿadhāban

نُّكْرًۭا

terrible

nuk'ran

٨

And how many a city was insolent toward the command of its Lord and His messengers, so We took it to severe account and punished it with a terrible punishment.

— Saheeh International

فَذَاقَتْ

So it tasted

fadhāqat

وَبَالَ

(the bad) consequence

wabāla

أَمْرِهَا

(of) its affair

amrihā

وَكَانَ

and was

wakāna

عَـٰقِبَةُ

(the) end

ʿāqibatu

أَمْرِهَا

(of) its affair

amrihā

خُسْرًا

loss

khus'ran

٩

And it tasted the bad consequence of its affair [i.e., rebellion], and the outcome of its affair was loss.

— Saheeh International

أَعَدَّ

Has prepared

aʿadda

ٱللَّهُ

Allah

l-lahu

لَهُمْ

for them

lahum

عَذَابًۭا

a punishment

ʿadhāban

شَدِيدًۭا ۖ

severe

shadīdan

فَٱتَّقُوا۟

So fear

fa-ittaqū

ٱللَّهَ

Allah

l-laha

يَـٰٓأُو۟لِى

O men

yāulī

ٱلْأَلْبَـٰبِ

(of) understanding

l-albābi

ٱلَّذِينَ

those who

alladhīna

ءَامَنُوا۟ ۚ

have believed

āmanū

قَدْ

Indeed

qad

أَنزَلَ

Has sent down

anzala

ٱللَّهُ

Allah

l-lahu

إِلَيْكُمْ

to you

ilaykum

ذِكْرًۭا

a Message

dhik'ran

١٠

Allāh has prepared for them a severe punishment; so fear Allāh, O you of understanding who have believed. Allāh has sent down to you a message [i.e., the Qur’ān].1

— Saheeh International

رَّسُولًۭا

A Messenger

rasūlan

يَتْلُوا۟

reciting

yatlū

عَلَيْكُمْ

to you

ʿalaykum

ءَايَـٰتِ

(the) Verses

āyāti

ٱللَّهِ

(of) Allah

l-lahi

مُبَيِّنَـٰتٍۢ

clear

mubayyinātin

لِّيُخْرِجَ

that he may bring out

liyukh'rija

ٱلَّذِينَ

those who

alladhīna

ءَامَنُوا۟

believe

āmanū

وَعَمِلُوا۟

and do

waʿamilū

ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ

righteous deeds

l-ṣāliḥāti

مِنَ

from

mina

ٱلظُّلُمَـٰتِ

the darkness[es]

l-ẓulumāti

إِلَى

towards

ilā

ٱلنُّورِ ۚ

the light

l-nūri

وَمَن

And whoever

waman

يُؤْمِنۢ

believes

yu'min

بِٱللَّهِ

in Allah

bil-lahi

وَيَعْمَلْ

and does

wayaʿmal

صَـٰلِحًۭا

righteous deeds

ṣāliḥan

يُدْخِلْهُ

He will admit him

yud'khil'hu

جَنَّـٰتٍۢ

(into) Gardens

jannātin

تَجْرِى

flow

tajrī

مِن

from

min

تَحْتِهَا

underneath it

taḥtihā

ٱلْأَنْهَـٰرُ

the rivers

l-anhāru

خَـٰلِدِينَ

abiding

khālidīna

فِيهَآ

therein

fīhā

أَبَدًۭا ۖ

forever

abadan

قَدْ

Indeed

qad

أَحْسَنَ

Has been (granted) good

aḥsana

ٱللَّهُ

(by) Allah

l-lahu

لَهُۥ

for him

lahu

رِزْقًا

provision

riz'qan

١١

[He sent] a Messenger [i.e., Muḥammad (ﷺ)] reciting to you the distinct verses of Allāh that He may bring out those who believe and do righteous deeds from darknesses into the light. And whoever believes in Allāh and does righteousness - He will admit him into gardens beneath which rivers flow to abide therein forever. Allāh will have perfected for him a provision.

— Saheeh International

ٱللَّهُ

alladhī

خَلَقَ

created

khalaqa

سَبْعَ

seven

sabʿa

سَمَـٰوَٰتٍۢ

heavens

samāwātin

وَمِنَ

and of

wamina

ٱلْأَرْضِ

the earth

l-arḍi

مِثْلَهُنَّ

(the) like of them

mith'lahunna

يَتَنَزَّلُ

Descends

yatanazzalu

ٱلْأَمْرُ

the command

l-amru

بَيْنَهُنَّ

between them

baynahunna

لِتَعْلَمُوٓا۟

that you may know

litaʿlamū

أَنَّ

that

anna

ٱللَّهَ

Allah

l-laha

عَلَىٰ

(is) on

ʿalā

كُلِّ

every

kulli

شَىْءٍۢ

thing

shayin

قَدِيرٌۭ

All-Powerful

qadīrun

وَأَنَّ

And that

wa-anna

ٱللَّهَ

Allah

l-laha

قَدْ

indeed

qad

أَحَاطَ

encompasses

aḥāṭa

بِكُلِّ

all

bikulli

شَىْءٍ

things

shayin

عِلْمًۢا

(in) knowledge

ʿil'man

١٢

It is Allāh who has created seven heavens and of the earth, the like of them.1 [His] command descends among them so you may know that Allāh is over all things competent and that Allāh has encompassed all things in knowledge.

— Saheeh International
