ذَٰلِكَ That dhālika (is) because [they] bi-annahum they opposed shāqqū Allah l-laha and His Messenger warasūlahu And whoever waman opposes yushāqqi Allah l-laha then indeed fa-inna Allah l-laha (is) severe shadīdu (in) penalty l-ʿiqābi
That is because they opposed Allāh and His Messenger. And whoever opposes Allāh - then indeed, Allāh is severe in penalty.
مَا Whatever mā you cut down qaṭaʿtum of min (the) palm-trees līnatin or aw you left them taraktumūhā standing qāimatan on ʿalā their roots uṣūlihā it (was) by the permission fabi-idh'ni (of) Allah l-lahi and that He may disgrace waliyukh'ziya the defiantly disobedient l-fāsiqīna
Whatever you have cut down of [their] palm trees or left standing on their trunks - it was by permission of Allāh and so He would disgrace the defiantly disobedient.
وَمَآ And what wamā (was) restored afāa (by) Allah l-lahu to ʿalā His Messenger rasūlihi from them min'hum then not famā you made expedition awjaftum for it ʿalayhi of min horses khaylin and not walā camels rikābin but walākinna Allah l-laha gives power yusalliṭu (to) His Messengers rusulahu over ʿalā whom man He wills yashāu And Allah wal-lahu (is) on ʿalā every kulli thing shayin All-Powerful qadīrun
And what Allāh restored [of property] to His Messenger from them - you did not spur for it [in an expedition] any horses or camels,1 but Allāh gives His messengers power over whom He wills, and Allāh is over all things competent.
مَّآ What mā (was) restored afāa (by) Allah l-lahu to ʿalā His Messenger rasūlihi from min (the) people ahli (of) the towns l-qurā (it is) for Allah falillahi and His Messenger walilrrasūli and for those walidhī (of) the kindred l-qur'bā and the orphans wal-yatāmā and the needy wal-masākīni and wa-ib'ni the wayfarer l-sabīli that kay not lā it becomes yakūna a (perpetual) circulation dūlatan between bayna the rich l-aghniyāi among you minkum And whatever wamā gives you ātākumu the Messenger l-rasūlu take it fakhudhūhu and whatever wamā he forbids you nahākum from it ʿanhu refrain fa-intahū And fear wa-ittaqū Allah l-laha Indeed inna Allah l-laha (is) severe shadīdu (in) penalty l-ʿiqābi
And what Allāh restored to His Messenger from the people of the towns - it is for Allāh and for the Messenger and for [his] near relatives1 and orphans and the needy and the [stranded] traveler2 - so that it will not be a perpetual distribution among the rich from among you. And whatever the Messenger has given you - take; and what he has forbidden you - refrain from. And fear Allāh; indeed, Allāh is severe in penalty.
لِلْفُقَرَآءِ For the poor lil'fuqarāi emigrants l-muhājirīna those who alladhīna were expelled ukh'rijū from min their homes diyārihim and their properties wa-amwālihim seeking yabtaghūna bounty faḍlan from mina Allah l-lahi and pleasure wariḍ'wānan and helping wayanṣurūna Allah l-laha and His Messenger warasūlahu Those ulāika they humu (are) the truthful l-ṣādiqūna
For the poor emigrants who were expelled from their homes and their properties, seeking bounty from Allāh and [His] approval and supporting [the cause of] Allāh and His Messenger, [there is also a share]. Those are the truthful.
وَٱلَّذِينَ And those who wa-alladhīna settled tabawwaū (in) the home l-dāra and (accepted) faith wal-īmāna from min before them qablihim love yuḥibbūna (those) who man emigrated hājara to them ilayhim and not walā they find yajidūna in fī their breasts ṣudūrihim any want ḥājatan of what mimmā they were given ūtū but prefer wayu'thirūna over ʿalā themselves anfusihim even though walaw was kāna with them bihim poverty khaṣāṣatun And whoever waman is saved yūqa (from) stinginess shuḥḥa (of) his soul nafsihi then those fa-ulāika [they] humu (are) the successful ones l-muf'liḥūna
And [also for] those who were settled in the Home [i.e.,al-Madīnah] and [adopted] the faith before them.1 They love those who emigrated to them and find not any want in their breasts of what they [i.e., the emigrants] were given but give [them] preference over themselves, even though they are in privation. And whoever is protected from the stinginess of his soul - it is those who will be the successful.
