خُشَّعًا (Will be) humbled khushaʿan their eyes abṣāruhum they will come forth yakhrujūna from mina the graves l-ajdāthi as if they (were) ka-annahum locusts jarādun spreading muntashirun
Their eyes humbled, they will emerge from the graves as if they were locusts spreading,
مُّهْطِعِينَ Racing ahead muh'ṭiʿīna towards ilā the caller l-dāʿi Will say yaqūlu the disbelievers l-kāfirūna This hādhā (is) a Day yawmun difficult ʿasirun
Racing ahead toward the Caller. The disbelievers will say, "This is a difficult Day."
۞ كَذَّبَتْ Denied kadhabat before them qablahum (the) people qawmu (of) Nuh nūḥin and they denied fakadhabū Our slave ʿabdanā and said waqālū A madman majnūnun and he was repelled wa-uz'dujira
The people of Noah denied before them, and they denied Our servant and said, "A madman," and he was repelled.
فَدَعَا So he called fadaʿā his Lord rabbahu I am annī one overpowered maghlūbun so help fa-intaṣir
So he invoked his Lord, "Indeed, I am overpowered, so help."
فَفَتَحْنَآ So We opened fafataḥnā (the) gates abwāba (of) heaven l-samāi with water bimāin pouring down mun'hamirin
Then We opened the gates of the heaven with rain pouring down
وَفَجَّرْنَا And We caused to burst wafajjarnā the earth l-arḍa (with) springs ʿuyūnan so met fal-taqā the water(s) l-māu for ʿalā a matter amrin already qad predestined qudira
And caused the earth to burst with springs, and the waters met for a matter already predestined.
وَحَمَلْنَـٰهُ And We carried him waḥamalnāhu on ʿalā (ark) made of planks dhāti (ark) made of planks alwāḥin and nails wadusurin
And We carried him on a [construction of] planks and nails,
تَجْرِى Sailing tajrī before Our eyes bi-aʿyuninā a reward jazāan for (he) who liman was kāna denied kufira
Sailing under Our observation as reward for he who had been denied.
وَلَقَد And certainly walaqad We left it taraknāhā (as) a Sign āyatan so is (there) fahal any min who will receive admonition muddakirin
And We left it as a sign, so is there any who will remember?
فَكَيْفَ So how fakayfa was kāna My punishment ʿadhābī and My warnings wanudhuri
And how [severe] were My punishment and warning.1
وَلَقَدْ And certainly walaqad We have made easy yassarnā the Quran l-qur'āna for remembrance lildhik'ri so is (there) fahal any min who will receive admonition muddakirin
And We have certainly made the Qur’ān easy for remembrance, so is there any who will remember?
كَذَّبَتْ Denied kadhabat Aad ʿādun so how fakayfa was kāna My punishment ʿadhābī and My warnings wanudhuri
ʿAad denied; and how [severe] were My punishment and warning.
إِنَّآ Indeed, We innā [We] sent arsalnā upon them ʿalayhim a wind rīḥan furious ṣarṣaran on fī a day yawmi (of) misfortune naḥsin continuous mus'tamirrin
Indeed, We sent upon them a screaming wind on a day of continuous misfortune,
تَنزِعُ Plucking out tanziʿu men l-nāsa as if they (were) ka-annahum trunks aʿjāzu (of) date-palms nakhlin uprooted munqaʿirin
Extracting the people1 as if they were trunks of palm trees uprooted.
فَكَيْفَ So how fakayfa was kāna My punishment ʿadhābī and My warnings wanudhuri
And how [severe] were My punishment and warning.
وَلَقَدْ And certainly walaqad We have made easy yassarnā the Quran l-qur'āna for remembrance lildhik'ri so is (there) fahal any min who will receive admonition muddakirin
And We have certainly made the Qur’ān easy for remembrance, so is there any who will remember?
كَذَّبَتْ Denied kadhabat Thamud thamūdu the warnings bil-nudhuri
Thamūd denied the warning.
فَقَالُوٓا۟ And said faqālū Is (it) a human being abasharan among us minnā one wāḥidan (that) we should follow him nattabiʿuhu Indeed, we innā then idhan (will be) surely in lafī error ḍalālin and madness wasuʿurin
And said, "Is it one human being1 among us that we should follow? Indeed, we would then be in error and madness.
أَءُلْقِىَ Has been sent a-ul'qiya the Reminder l-dhik'ru to him ʿalayhi from min among us bayninā Nay bal he huwa (is) a liar kadhābun insolent ashirun
Has the message been sent down upon him from among us? Rather, he is an insolent liar."
سَيَعْلَمُونَ They will know sayaʿlamūna tomorrow ghadan who mani (is) the liar l-kadhābu the insolent one l-ashiru
They will know tomorrow who is the insolent liar.
إِنَّا Indeed, We innā (are) sending mur'silū the she-camel l-nāqati (as) a trial fit'natan for them lahum so watch them fa-ir'taqib'hum and be patient wa-iṣ'ṭabir
Indeed, We are sending the she-camel as trial for them, so watch them and be patient.1
