خُشَّعًا

(Will be) humbled

khushaʿan

أَبْصَـٰرُهُمْ

their eyes

abṣāruhum

يَخْرُجُونَ

they will come forth

yakhrujūna

مِنَ

from

mina

ٱلْأَجْدَاثِ

the graves

l-ajdāthi

كَأَنَّهُمْ

as if they (were)

ka-annahum

جَرَادٌۭ

locusts

jarādun

مُّنتَشِرٌۭ

spreading

muntashirun

٧

Their eyes humbled, they will emerge from the graves as if they were locusts spreading,

— Saheeh International

مُّهْطِعِينَ

Racing ahead

muh'ṭiʿīna

إِلَى

towards

ilā

ٱلدَّاعِ ۖ

the caller

l-dāʿi

يَقُولُ

Will say

yaqūlu

ٱلْكَـٰفِرُونَ

the disbelievers

l-kāfirūna

هَـٰذَا

This

hādhā

يَوْمٌ

(is) a Day

yawmun

عَسِرٌۭ

difficult

ʿasirun

٨

Racing ahead toward the Caller. The disbelievers will say, "This is a difficult Day."

— Saheeh International

۞ كَذَّبَتْ

Denied

kadhabat

قَبْلَهُمْ

before them

qablahum

قَوْمُ

(the) people

qawmu

نُوحٍۢ

(of) Nuh

nūḥin

فَكَذَّبُوا۟

and they denied

fakadhabū

عَبْدَنَا

Our slave

ʿabdanā

وَقَالُوا۟

and said

waqālū

مَجْنُونٌۭ

A madman

majnūnun

وَٱزْدُجِرَ

and he was repelled

wa-uz'dujira

٩

The people of Noah denied before them, and they denied Our servant and said, "A madman," and he was repelled.

— Saheeh International

فَدَعَا

So he called

fadaʿā

رَبَّهُۥٓ

his Lord

rabbahu

أَنِّى

I am

annī

مَغْلُوبٌۭ

one overpowered

maghlūbun

فَٱنتَصِرْ

so help

fa-intaṣir

١٠

So he invoked his Lord, "Indeed, I am overpowered, so help."

— Saheeh International

فَفَتَحْنَآ

So We opened

fafataḥnā

أَبْوَٰبَ

(the) gates

abwāba

ٱلسَّمَآءِ

(of) heaven

l-samāi

بِمَآءٍۢ

with water

bimāin

مُّنْهَمِرٍۢ

pouring down

mun'hamirin

١١

Then We opened the gates of the heaven with rain pouring down

— Saheeh International

وَفَجَّرْنَا

And We caused to burst

wafajjarnā

ٱلْأَرْضَ

the earth

l-arḍa

عُيُونًۭا

(with) springs

ʿuyūnan

فَٱلْتَقَى

so met

fal-taqā

ٱلْمَآءُ

the water(s)

l-māu

عَلَىٰٓ

for

ʿalā

أَمْرٍۢ

a matter

amrin

قَدْ

already

qad

قُدِرَ

predestined

qudira

١٢

And caused the earth to burst with springs, and the waters met for a matter already predestined.

— Saheeh International

وَحَمَلْنَـٰهُ

And We carried him

waḥamalnāhu

عَلَىٰ

on

ʿalā

ذَاتِ

(ark) made of planks

dhāti

أَلْوَٰحٍۢ

(ark) made of planks

alwāḥin

وَدُسُرٍۢ

and nails

wadusurin

١٣

And We carried him on a [construction of] planks and nails,

— Saheeh International

تَجْرِى

Sailing

tajrī

بِأَعْيُنِنَا

before Our eyes

bi-aʿyuninā

جَزَآءًۭ

a reward

jazāan

لِّمَن

for (he) who

liman

كَانَ

was

kāna

كُفِرَ

denied

kufira

١٤

Sailing under Our observation as reward for he who had been denied.

— Saheeh International

وَلَقَد

And certainly

walaqad

تَّرَكْنَـٰهَآ

We left it

taraknāhā

ءَايَةًۭ

(as) a Sign

āyatan

فَهَلْ

so is (there)

fahal

مِن

any

min

مُّدَّكِرٍۢ

who will receive admonition

muddakirin

١٥

And We left it as a sign, so is there any who will remember?

— Saheeh International

فَكَيْفَ

So how

fakayfa

كَانَ

was

kāna

عَذَابِى

My punishment

ʿadhābī

وَنُذُرِ

and My warnings

wanudhuri

١٦

And how [severe] were My punishment and warning.1

— Saheeh International

وَلَقَدْ

And certainly

walaqad

يَسَّرْنَا

We have made easy

yassarnā

ٱلْقُرْءَانَ

the Quran

l-qur'āna

لِلذِّكْرِ

for remembrance

lildhik'ri

فَهَلْ

so is (there)

fahal

مِن

any

min

مُّدَّكِرٍۢ

who will receive admonition

muddakirin

١٧

And We have certainly made the Qur’ān easy for remembrance, so is there any who will remember?

— Saheeh International

كَذَّبَتْ

Denied

عَادٌۭ

Aad

ʿādun

فَكَيْفَ

so how

fakayfa

كَانَ

was

kāna

عَذَابِى

My punishment

ʿadhābī

وَنُذُرِ

and My warnings

wanudhuri

١٨

ʿAad denied; and how [severe] were My punishment and warning.

— Saheeh International

إِنَّآ

Indeed, We

innā

أَرْسَلْنَا

[We] sent

arsalnā

عَلَيْهِمْ

upon them

ʿalayhim

رِيحًۭا

a wind

rīḥan

صَرْصَرًۭا

furious

ṣarṣaran

فِى

on

يَوْمِ

a day

yawmi

نَحْسٍۢ

(of) misfortune

naḥsin

مُّسْتَمِرٍّۢ

continuous

mus'tamirrin

١٩

Indeed, We sent upon them a screaming wind on a day of continuous misfortune,

— Saheeh International

تَنزِعُ

Plucking out

tanziʿu

ٱلنَّاسَ

men

l-nāsa

كَأَنَّهُمْ

as if they (were)

ka-annahum

أَعْجَازُ

trunks

aʿjāzu

نَخْلٍۢ

(of) date-palms

nakhlin

مُّنقَعِرٍۢ

uprooted

munqaʿirin

٢٠

Extracting the people1 as if they were trunks of palm trees uprooted.

— Saheeh International

فَكَيْفَ

So how

fakayfa

كَانَ

was

kāna

عَذَابِى

My punishment

ʿadhābī

وَنُذُرِ

and My warnings

wanudhuri

٢١

And how [severe] were My punishment and warning.

— Saheeh International

وَلَقَدْ

And certainly

walaqad

يَسَّرْنَا

We have made easy

yassarnā

ٱلْقُرْءَانَ

the Quran

l-qur'āna

لِلذِّكْرِ

for remembrance

lildhik'ri

فَهَلْ

so is (there)

fahal

مِن

any

min

مُّدَّكِرٍۢ

who will receive admonition

muddakirin

٢٢

And We have certainly made the Qur’ān easy for remembrance, so is there any who will remember?

— Saheeh International

كَذَّبَتْ

Denied

kadhabat

ثَمُودُ

Thamud

thamūdu

بِٱلنُّذُرِ

the warnings

bil-nudhuri

٢٣

Thamūd denied the warning.

— Saheeh International

فَقَالُوٓا۟

And said

faqālū

أَبَشَرًۭا

Is (it) a human being

abasharan

مِّنَّا

among us

minnā

وَٰحِدًۭا

one

wāḥidan

نَّتَّبِعُهُۥٓ

(that) we should follow him

nattabiʿuhu

إِنَّآ

Indeed, we

innā

إِذًۭا

then

idhan

لَّفِى

(will be) surely in

lafī

ضَلَـٰلٍۢ

error

ḍalālin

وَسُعُرٍ

and madness

wasuʿurin

٢٤

And said, "Is it one human being1 among us that we should follow? Indeed, we would then be in error and madness.

— Saheeh International

أَءُلْقِىَ

Has been sent

a-ul'qiya

ٱلذِّكْرُ

the Reminder

l-dhik'ru

عَلَيْهِ

to him

ʿalayhi

مِنۢ

from

min

بَيْنِنَا

among us

bayninā

بَلْ

Nay

bal

هُوَ

he

huwa

كَذَّابٌ

(is) a liar

kadhābun

أَشِرٌۭ

insolent

ashirun

٢٥

Has the message been sent down upon him from among us? Rather, he is an insolent liar."

— Saheeh International

سَيَعْلَمُونَ

They will know

sayaʿlamūna

غَدًۭا

tomorrow

ghadan

مَّنِ

who

mani

ٱلْكَذَّابُ

(is) the liar

l-kadhābu

ٱلْأَشِرُ

the insolent one

l-ashiru

٢٦

They will know tomorrow who is the insolent liar.

— Saheeh International

إِنَّا

Indeed, We

innā

مُرْسِلُوا۟

(are) sending

mur'silū

ٱلنَّاقَةِ

the she-camel

l-nāqati

فِتْنَةًۭ

(as) a trial

fit'natan

لَّهُمْ

for them

lahum

فَٱرْتَقِبْهُمْ

so watch them

fa-ir'taqib'hum

وَٱصْطَبِرْ

and be patient

wa-iṣ'ṭabir

٢٧

Indeed, We are sending the she-camel as trial for them, so watch them and be patient.1
